Tom London has done a pretty damn good job. Despite an illness that stole his young wife years ago, he’s raised his biological son, and several adopted ones, to be fine men. The Hot Rods might be unconventional, but they’re hardworking, hard-playing, and hard-loving. Tom couldn’t ask for anything more—except perhaps an equally fierce love of his own. And he’s got his eye on a luscious candidate. Ms. Wilhelmina Brown, a longtime widow with more than enough sass in her step to take him on.
Willie has a lot in common with Tom. She’s raised two wonderful daughters, both now married into the Hot Rods family, and lived through her own tragedy, having lost her husband in a horrific accident. More than two decades later, she and Tom still live with the ghosts of their pasts, but she’d have to be dead herself not to feel the man’s effect on her libido. They already share a mutual respect; perhaps they can each be what the other needs in more tangible ways…
As Tom and Willie take one step closer, an explosive revelation shoots them several steps back. But that bombshell turns out to be just a precursor to something potentially worse…potentially deadly…and potentially enough to keep the mature lovers apart forever.

For some people they don’t find their forever love until late in life, or tragedy takes away their love way to early in life. Sadly for both of the people in this story, they fall in both categories. Since they were introduced in Super Nova Tom London and Willie Brown just seamed to belong together, and finally they are getting their story!!!
Tom London lost his young wife to cancer. He went on to raise not only his own son alone, but he adopted along the way all of the Hot Rods. He is the owner and founder of the Hot Rods station and garage. He has spent many years alone, but now he is ready to admit to the love he has for Willie. He just has to convince her to take the chance on him.
Willie Brown lost her husband a lifetime ago. She sees it as her own fault, because the bigots in the town they lived in couldn’t get past the fact that she was black and he was white. The car accident that took him from her and her young daughters stole more than just his life. It seemed to have taken her backbone too. She wants Tom with all that she has, but is scared to take that chance on love again.
Tom and Willie’s story is just freaking beautiful!!! The possibilities for love don’t stop when we reach a certain age. It is great to read a story of two mature people overcoming their pasts by finding each other! I don’t know if the fact that I’ve always liked older men has me biased, but LAWD is Tom London one hot man. I sent Jayne a private message when I finished it. I told her I licked him to claim him as my own. I think I have a new lead book boyfriend!! I hope y’all enjoy this story as much as I have!! (Get some tissues!! You may need them!)
I love romance stories that feature two "mature" adults. Hell, just cause you over 40 don't mean you stop getting horny. This is not a book about sex although there are some thoroughly erotic moments sprinkled throughout. This is my first read by author Jayne Rylon, and real talk, dude on the cover had me at first glance: Those rippling muscles, that sexy ass salt-n-pepper hair...
Although this is book 8 in Rylon's popular Hot Rods series, it can be read as a standalone. Of course, there is prominent crossover of other characters from the previous books because they're all related in some way, but I didn't get lost or felt the need to have to read those books to keep up with this one. Tom London is the leader of the Hot Rods. They're not an MC club or gang per se, but they are a bunch of gear heads who own and operate this massive garage. Tom is pushing 50, and he's dedicated his life to raising his biological son as well as all the other guys who've become a part of his family. Well, they're all grown men now, and he's lonely and got feels for Wilhelmina "Willie" Brown, who happens to be the mother of Amber and Nola who are married or "betrothed" to two of his adoptive sons (They each have their own story in the series as well.) Willie is feeling Tom too, but they both got issues-still living in the past and can't let go of their dead spouses. Or can they?
I really liked this story because it had substance. You had two grown ups who are trying to make this relationship pop off while dealing with all the outside shit going on, and there's also a major plot twist which could shake up Tom and Willie's relationship. Very good story. The only issue I had was like many serials, sometimes the major players get lost in their own story because of all the other characters overlapping and taking up "space". I wanted more Tom and Willie and less everybody else, but I get it. They were the parents and just can't quit parenting. At any rate, good story. Click it up!
I cannot express how much I LOVE this book. I’ve loved these characters from the start. They have stood by and protected some truly damaged individuals and watched them grow and learn to love themselves and others. Now it is their turn. You are never too old for love and if anyone deserves it it is these two. With the kids all but settled Willie is feeling the empty nest and her excuses for putting Tom off have gone the way of the dodo so maybe she will give in to her heart once more and hope it can handle loving Tom. Tom is about to turn 50 and Willie is 46 and this book proves they haven’t lost a stroke they just make them count more. This is an incredibly sweet story that will keep you up reading past your bedtime. I know it kept me up late as I couldn’t put it down till the very last page. 5.0 Star Review Long Time Coming (Hot Rods Book 8) by Jayne Rylon
Every book in this series I have thoroughly loved. Each one seems to get better and better and this is no exception.
I fully support and applaud Jayne Rylon for taking what I am sure many authors and publishers consider a risk and publishing a book about 2 older people finding love.
This is a story with a little bit of a difference. Tom London is turning 50 and Wilhelmina Brown is in her mid-40. Love is love. I know this phrase has been used more and more and it is one I am passionate about. Just because they are more mature than the average couple in most books, does not minimise their love or their right to find it.
Tom has been a wonderful example to all the Hot Rods throughout the series and I always wanted to see him fall in love. He lost his wife tragically to cancer many years ago and in her memory continued a youth group where he found and adopted many of the men who went on to become part of the Hot Rods group. He is always supportive and the calm voice of reason when needed. However, above all else he is a lonely man.
Willie is the mother of one of the women who has married a member of the Hot Rods men. She too has been alone for a very long time as her husband was killed in a car accident. We all know life can be a roller coaster but will Willie be prepared to fight? The road to happiness for Tom and Willie isn’t as smooth as it could be, but it is so worth it in the end.
Drawn together by their children, Tom and Willie develop a very close friendship. Between them they are the guiding force and reason for the men and women of the Hot Roads group. Along the way feelings begin to form between them, but Willie is terrified to take it any further. Too afraid to let Tom in and take another chance at love. They are attracted to each other, but who will take the first giant leap?
This is romance at its sweetest and don’t think it isn’t passionate because it most assuredly is. Tom and Willie certainly show that just because you are getting older, fire and passion can and does exist, in fact they get rather steamy.
As I have found with all of Jayne Rylon’s books, this was well written and emotional Another brilliant addition to what is one of my all-time favourite series. Well done Jayne Rylon you have another winner on your hands. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
If this series is not on your TBR list then I suggest that you get it immediately, you won’t be disappointed.
So, hey, guess what? Mature people over the age of 45 like to have sex too!! Imagine that, shocking I know
Can I just add that this series kept getting better and better with each book? Not the fact that the stories focused in away from the polyamourous groupings and into the H/h areas, or even because the characters were well known by the time their story came. The world, the writing, and the stories had a confidence in them that made you believe they were real, not characters, and that is just amazing when it happens
Okay, so Tom is the original Hot Rod, always in the background, pulling strings, offering advice, and being the rock for the 'kids'. This past year, he and Willie have been dancing around each other, and now it's their time
Willie has been alone since her husband died 21 years ago. She has been resisting Tom's advances, but finally decides to take a chance. And boy, what a chance, these two were just as hot as anybody else, wow!
Of course, there were a couple of wrenches thrown their way, and yes, even mature people make some mistakes, they just in a much calm manner, and own up to them once they figure them out
So a shout out to the not-old-enough-for-a-discount-but-old-enough-to-have-life-experience crowd, because this was a wonderful story of love found for a second time in a lifetime!
When you look up the definition of a Man, Tom London name is first. He is pure man, a real man!!! A man willing to sacrifice everything for the people he loves. Tom doesn't care if your his blood, his open door policy, meant you were safe, cared for and loved unconditionally no matter where you came from. He is sexy, sweet, loving, loyal, protective, accepting, honorable, fierce, and will love honor and protect what is his with his life!!!! His family is everything to him, it kept him going when times were rough. And now he has his Willy. I'm so happy for this beautiful man, I've loved him from the start, this group is blessed with Tom being Tom Love this series Loved loved loved this story Outstanding fantastic read
WOW! I have been looking forward to Tom and Willie's book for a while now, as most of us die-hard Jayne Rylon fans have been. To say I was blown away would be a vast understatement. There were twists and turns I was not expecting and, as always, this extended family banded together and stood strong. Where normally it's Tom giving advice to the Hot Rods, this time it's the guys and their women helping out Tom and Willie.
I have heard the author got some flack for writing this story because the characters are "middle-aged" (almost 50) but honestly I barely even thought about that while reading. The story sucks you in so fast and if you've read the previous books it's a must to read this one too!
I discovered Jayne Rylon's books when I was looking for something new to read and it took one book to make her an autobuy author for me.
The Hot Rod series has been such a great series. I was thrilled to see Tom and Willie get their own HEA and I was not disappointed. Tom and Willie met through their children and we have seen a strong friendship develop between these two people and seen their friendship turn into love. Tom is so patient and strong. I fell a little in love with him myself. Willie is a strong and fierce woman you can't help but admire.
It was such a treat to see Tom and Willie as two passionate people and not just the role models for the Hot Rod crew. Ms. Rylon kept me on my toes with this book.
Jayne Rylon is an excellent writer who pulls you in on the first page and keeps you turning the pages until the book ends. Long Time Coming is no exception. I really loved reading Tom and Willie's story, two people who have always been there for everyone else, but have had tragic pasts in the relationship department themselves. They have been friends for a while, but neither has pushed for more for their own personal reasons. That is until now. Their story shows you it is never too late to love again. Their story is fun, sexy, serious, life changing, scary, and includes every element it takes to make it a wonderful love story and one I highly recommend.
I loved Tom and Mrs Brown story. They are dedicated to each other through thick and thin. Mrs. Brown is a widow she believed for over 20 years when Tom tries to find out the truth behind her husbands death Tom finds out he is still alive. Than she goes to a doctor and she has issues there. As much as she tries to run away form Tim he will not let her. They make a beautiful couple and I loved this book.
This was an emotional ending to a spicy series. Tom needed this book as did I. I love how Jayne included everyone from the HotRods and with a possibility of more to come. This book will make you laugh, cry and beg for more. I'm excited to see what's coming next!
Often times, authors integrate a previous series to a new one with a blip it here or mention there. Rylon does an amazing job fully immersing Powertools to Hot Rods and expect the same going in to Hot Rides.
My only negative is that each person has so many nicknames that you really have to pay attention to Carver also being Meep especially when both names are used in the same paragraph or sentence. This got easier as the series progressed.
Enjoy this series. The Ménage writing of Rylon is second to none!
I am so glad that Tom and Willie got their own story. And by God it was a good one. I can't wait for Hot Rides to be available. I know that the 1st one is out, the 2nd one is due out on the 14th and then I have to wait until summer's over for the 3rd. Talk about torture. So folks read the series and fall into love with these characters just like I did. Power tools, and Hot Rods these books are so worth both your time and your money. Happy reading!
By far this is my favourite book in the series. The characters are engraved on my soul and I've been cheering for them since I meet them in book 3, to see them here at last getting their shot I'm crying coz I'm so happy. With characters your so invested in,you know Jayne has created a wonderful world
What a great series. There was lots of sexy time but at the root of it all was heart. I was so invested in everyone by the end that this was the best story yet. I hope there will be more. Love that it was left open ended for more on the next generation of Power Tools and Hot Rods. Maybe a Hot Rides series? I just can’t get enough.
As the title says, it was a long time coming! I really enjoyed Willie and Tom's love story! Lots of unexpected surprises throughout the story. I couldn't put it down once I started. What a great series and awesome characters. Loved it!
Tom finally gets to enjoy the life he's been missing when he and Willie decide to stop hiding their feelings for each other - her daughter's are all ready part of the Hot Rods crew, so she might as well too. Big surprise in this one too.
I loved this story. I do wish there would have been a big confrontation between the girls and Steven, but overall I loved it and the tattoo at the end made me cry. I hope to be reading Quinn's story one day.
Janye doesn’t disappoint. I love Powertools and HotRod family. You can’t help but feel like part of the crew. Full of unconditional and nonjudgmental love and admiration they all have for one another. These are one of the best series I have ever read
If only every man was like Tom. Sexy, steadfast, are willing to do anything for those he loves - the world would be a better place. I appreciate a “mature” couple for a change less the drama, more real life issues.
Tom London and Wilhelmina “Willie” Brown are friends brought together by circumstance. Willie’s two daughters have married Tom’s sons. But could there be more between the two lonely middle-age single parents?
Both lost their spouses – Tom’s wife died soon after being diagnosed with a terminal illness, and Willie lost her husband in a tragic accident. After more than 20 years, Willie is ready to admit she’s met a man she’s attracted to and interested in. Tom feels the same way, but can they each let go of the past and find a future together?
Willie’s life has not been an easy one. Her hometown disapproved of her interracial marriage. After numerous threats, and with questions surrounding her husband’s death, she grabs her two girls and leaves town soon after the accident. Many times homeless and struggling to get by leaves Willie suffering with migraines and anxiety that medication only partly helps. She only truly begins to feel settled when her girls take up with the Hot Rods – seven young men and their father/foster father.
Tom’s late wife had been the love of his life. Her death devastated him. He kept her memory alive by doing what she loved – helping others – and that’s what led him to take in the troubled youth who he would come to love as much as his own son.
The two mature adults finally open themselves up to the possibility of a future together when Willie’s world is suddenly rocked by a devastating truth about her late husband’s death. I wanted to literally stand up and applaud the author for the revealing scene! The situation could have gone in a few different directions, but kudos to the author for not “going there”, creating angst just for the sake of angst. I feel the author showed us…and let Willie show us…that she was not as broken and much more intelligent than she believed. IMHO, this is the best scene in the entire story because it is the one where Willie and Tom show the most clarity.
As everyone tries to move on in spite of the recent events, Willie is once again caught off guard with troubling news. My heart broke for her. While I do not agree with how she handled it in the beginning, I understand. It was the “logical” choice considering the history of the man she had come to love.
Willie raised some pretty sharp girls, and it doesn’t show more than during their talk with Tom. The pace and scenarios that followed were perfect and felt very real.
I cannot remember how I stumbled across this great read, but I’m sure it was in one of my never-ending searches for romances involving older couples. The author highlights their wisdom as parents, their mutual respect as friends, and their flaws, which are all what pull this read together. It also shows that aging does not mean less sex or lack of sexuality. Go Willie and Tom! (YAAAY!)
While the Hot Rods series is not something I would usually choose to read, the author weaves the young people into Willie and Tom’s story so well, I feel I need to know their stories and how this group came to be friends, spouses and family.
I cannot tell you where to start in the series, just make sure you do not miss THIS one!
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
As an, gulp, older woman, it’s not often that I can find a romance that features a heroine like me. Someone who has lived a bit, has children, and yet is still looking for love and caring and affection. Therefore I was so excited to see that one of my favorite authors, Jayne Rylon, had written a book with a heroine that I could completely connect to. Long Time Coming, the eight book in Ms. Rylon’s popular Hot Rod series, features a heroine and hero who have loved, have lost and now hope to find love again. It was wonderful to see a book that showcases how even we older folks have the same wants and desires as the younger generation.
Wilhelmina ‘Willie’ Brown met Tom London when her daughters became involved with his sons and they all became a part of the Hot Rods family. Tom and Willie had both lost their spouses, Willie to an accident and Tom to illness. They had bonded over their kids and their mutual pain. That bond, coupled with attraction, turned into love.
I really loved how Ms. Rylon treated these fascinating characters. It had been a very long time since both one of them had been involved with someone, and we were able to see their concerns and even fears. I loved how Ms. Rylon expressed Willie’s doubts and insecurities because it would be exactly how I would feel in the same situation. Tom was a wonderful man and with each chapter, I fell further in love with him myself. The two together were perfect and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect match for either of them.
But Long Time Coming had more than just great characters. Ms. Rylon threw in a couple of plot twists that had me yelling out loud while reading. One in particular I didn’t even see coming so my hat is off to Ms. Rylon for completely surprising me. The story flows effortlessly and I was unable to put back the book down until I reached the very satisfying conclusion.
Long Time Coming is just another example of why Ms. Rylon has become a favorite for me. I always know that I am going to get an enjoyable book filled with fascinating characters, compelling stories and full emotional impact. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
