Most people think of Las Vegas for the promotional message, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” Robert glamour and glitz but those who live and work in Las Vegas sometimes get caught up in the temptations of life in Sin City.
Browne’s main protagonist, Nick Jennings is one of those lifelong residents of Vegas who succumbed to the temptations of gambling after several life altering events put his life in a tailspin. Four years earlier Jennings and his wife, Cassandra, were Las Vegas detectives and tragic events led to Nick’s falling from grace, losing his job and his wife divorcing him. The author shares Jennings’ backstory with his readers leading up to Nick’s efforts to respond to a request from his ex-wife, Cassandra, to try and help a young woman find her missing husband.
Readers quickly learn the circumstances and events of the husband’s disappearance. Nick is not a licensed PI in Vegas so all of his searching for the missing husband is an off the books investigation. While Nick searches for the missing husband, he follows clues that take him to a bar run by the Russian mob. Readers travel with Nick as he visits the last known location the woman’s husband had been seen. The author shares backstory detailing the Russian Mob’s involvement in illegal gambling, fight clubs, and human trafficking. The pace of Brown’s thriller seems to speed up each at step of Nick’s investigation. Regardless of Nick’s intentions, his efforts create trouble for the young wife and angers his ex-wife. Suspense and intrigue build to a climax when Nick’s actions expose readers to what goes on behind closed doors in an abandoned warehouse. The author creates a series of unpredictable events creating a thriller with his In Flight 12’s A NICK JENNINGS THILLER, causing readers to hold their breath.
