Being a reality TV star is a cutthroat job, especially when murder is involved.
When food truck owner Maeve Kinkaid and her chef, Land Mendoza, sign up to participate in a food truck reality show, they get more than they bargained for. It’s bad enough that the producers try to force a romance between them, but then the competition gets vicious when a prankster starts playing tricks on the contestants.
And “elimination round” takes on a very literal meaning when a killer decides to win at all costs.
Maeve is back and on a reality food truck competition.
Someone is playing pranks and messing with the contestants. these escalate until a show producer and contestant are brutally murdered. Maeve investigates.
I like the characters and premise. The story moves well and I liked it but I wasnt really super clear on the killer's motive.
Pretty good book. I like the characters in this series and am intrigued with how Land and the detective know each other. This one had an interesting mystery, but I felt the end was rushed. And, I don't know how she figured out the killer. I'm usually pretty good at picking up clues, but this time it just seemed out of the blue. I will continue reading the series to learn more about all the characters, but hopefully the rest aren't as abrupt.
Though Land some how managed to change his personality a little in this book, compared to the last book. He is a little softer and kinder to Maeve but that just might be because he is now working in tight quarters with her for over 6 months. The traditional love triangle is starting to develop in this book and we still don't know how Danvers and Land know each other. I want to bet that they went to the same school or something like that. Land and Maeve seem to be getting closer however, I'm not sure if that may be because of Danvers' attentions.
The mystery in this book was new and not something that I've read before, however, it is not completely unrealistic. Also the food that Land cooks in this book just sounds amazing and make me want to try it.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and will continue to read it.
Beetje saai, beetje voorspelbaar.
The second mystery was much more well done. And I have to admit I'm gonna keep reading because I am curious about what the past is between Land and Jax. It definitely seems interesting. We'll see. Onto #3.
I still like the characters, but the ending, really!?! I have so many questions. In this book Maeve and Land take on a reality show about being the best food truck in their city. But just when they hit their stride bodies start appearing so Maeve us on the case.
Maeve is still annoying. I'm more interested in how Land (still a stupid name, even as a nickname) and Jax know each other because they don't seem remotely connected. Then again, we don't know anything about Lans because Maeve is super self-involved so...
Great continuance to the series! Maeve and Land are taking part in a reality TV show with food trucks hoping, not only to win, but to help promote the business. Everything hasn't been going as planned when quite a few of the contestants are having pranks pulled on them and receiving threatening notes. Fun and games take a more serious tone after two people are found murdered.
I loved the whole reality TV part of the story. Maeve starts to act more like a responsible adult. Glad she's not so much of the annoying Millennial. Land also seems to be a bit more personable and I hope he opens up more as the series goes on. That thing with Danvers, and that thing with Land! I'm intrigued! Can't wait to see how it all plays out.
Too much chick likes boyS airhead stuff, not enough actual mystery, too murder she wrote without the actual satisfaction of a somewhat well written cozy/murder mystery, and I don't have overly high expectations of cozy mysteries to begin with. I have to say, some of the pranks were pretty funny. I won't spoil it, but they were certainly unexpected! Chloe Kendrick has done a great job with this second installment. Maeve has become more likable & the chemistry between her & Land works.
My only complaint with this one is the use of vocabulary. I'm all for spicy up descriptions, but, I think there's an overused thesaurus in this picture. Our author tends to utilize adjectives that no one would in a regular day. It becomes a bit distracting. In fact, there were a large number of editing misses throughout the book.
Regardless, I enjoyed the plot of having them compete on the show. There were enough clues to keep readers guessing a bit as anyone at anytime could have ben the culprit. I'm glad I happened upon the series & will continue. 'Spotlight' gets 4 stars.
Food truck owner Maeve Kinkaid and her chef, Land Mendoza, enter a food truck competition, and it's reality TV as you'd expect...plus some murder! Someone is messing with the contestants, and Maeve instinctively tries to find out who's behind it. Then when one contestant and one staffer get murdered on set, Danvers suggests to the producer that Maeve and Land secretly investigate for him...they agree in exchange for a guaranteed WIN in the end.
Editing issues again, as with the first one. And then it seemed like someone went back and upgraded the vocab, but it turned out weird...like when someone uses a thesaurus for no reason. I'll keep reading the series, as I have the bundle of books 1-5 now. #2 was better than #1, so I'm hoping they get progressively better.
A food truck reality show, and a double murder make for an interesting read and a good mystery. Who has been pranking all the contestants and why? Is it one of the contestants, looking to win any way they can or the production staff, looking to up the ratings? Then, when the main production assistant is murdered along with one of the contestants, the ante is upped and the search is on for the killer. A great read, and a lot of fun as well.
This was the second book in the Food Truck Mysteries. I am glad that I have had the opportunity to discover this author. Aside from an occasional mistake in grammar and some overuse of commas, I find that I really enjoyed this book and immediately needed to find the next one. If you enjoy a decent mystery, a good storyline, and well-developed characters, I truly believe you will enjoy this series.
This is a quick read that contains the same characters as the first book. In this installment we follow the duo on their mission for money, fame and a second food truck by signing up for a reality tv show. But they get the surprise of their life when people start dying and sabotages begin. I find this series adorable, you know they are going to solve anything that comes their way, your just along for the entertainment.
I am a huge cozy mystery fan, but I found myself struggling to finish this book. It was slow and boring, and it just didn't hold my interest. I purchased this e-book as a "box" set, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to start the next book in the series, for fear that it will be as yawn-inducing as this one.
Definitely enjoyed all the characters again & with another crazy mystery!! I still never figured out the killer until they were reviled at the end! Can't wait to start on book 3!! This series is great!!
I enjoyed this second book in the series almost as much as the first. I was wondering who the killer was right up until the end of the book. I am looking forward to following Maeve's adventures in book three of the Food Truck Mystery series.
5 stars because it kept my interest. Fast paced, kept me guessing as to who the perpetrator was. Tiny bit of romantic tension, but not enough to distract. No swearing, yea!
#2 in the series. This one takes place in the reality tv genre of food trucks. They get more than they bargained for, as the competition gets vicious when a prankster starts playing tricks on the contestants
Enjoyable. Likeable characters. Enjoy these stories with food desserts. Characters interact well together. Murder mystery . Read both of Chloe Kendricks book, and enjoyed both.
This story entertained me even if I did figure out who the murderer was early on. But the real mystery is, who exactly is Land? I think I will have to keep reading this series to find out!
