I grew up on a farm in the middle of Canada's breadbasket. Under the canopy of crisp blue prairie skies I read books. Lots and lots of books. Occasionally, I picked up a pen and paper or tapped out a few meagre pages of a story on a keyboard and dreamed of becoming a writer when I grew up. One day the inevitable happened and I knew without question the time was right. What to write was never the issue - romance and the gut wrenching journey towards forever.

Gritty and raw, but with a sexy side - Off the Grid is definitely made of romantic suspense. I loved the hero and the heroine, and hated the vile scumbag. There *was* one secondary character I didn't like, but I think that was the point. She wasn't meant to be liked. Very well written novel in the vein of Allison Brennan or Roxanne St. Claire - with multi-dimensional characters, hot action, and spicy romance. Good stuff, people. This book is fast paced with action that pulls the reader forward - I inhaled it in under a day.

Disclaimer junk: The author did give me an early copy of this book, but I was under no obligation to even give a review, let alone give her glowing praise. I don't work that way. This was a good read and I said so. That's that.

I had not read anything by this author, but I really enjoyed this book. Dr. Sophie Monroe practices in the inner city and one night delivers a young teens baby. She is aided in the delivery by Caleb Quinn, one of Canada’s top attorneys. He arrived at her clinic when she unexpectedly cancelled their plans for the evening, but he definitely wasn’t planning on helping her with the delivery of a baby. When he learns that the baby may have been fathered by an acquaintance of his, a very influential man, he knows that he, Sophie and the young mother are in for a fight. There are several unexpected twists to this story of a man and woman fighting against money and power to do what is right for the baby. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

"Off the Grid" (2014, 2020) is an interesting novel about physician Dr. Sophie Monroe and attorney Caleb Quinn, who try to protect Kelly, one of Sophie’s female patients. Eighteen-year-old Kelly claims to have been impregnated by a prominent, married and ruthless man who doesn’t want his indiscretion exposed. Sophie and Caleb’s romantic feelings for each other complicates things. It’s a solid story that moves along well in no small part due to Carly Kincaid’s narration, although I would have liked to have read more about Kelly. Strongly recommended.

A page turner. Interesting romance. Sibling issues. Past and present crimes against women. I skipped over the intimate details, but enjoyed their blossoming relationship. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley.

I have to say that I enjoyed this book. It was a pretty straight forward romance but had a few twists that made it interesting. The characters came off as real, complete with family dysfunction.

Sophie tries to juggle her medical clinic in the ghetto section of Vancouver with her relationship with her homeless, drug abusing sister. She cares deeply about helping those that can’t or won’t go to a traditional doctor. Thanks to her sister’s mental illness, she understands them in ways most people don’t. I liked that she had planned on wearing a sexy dress to a charity function just to rub it in Caleb’s face that she could be sexy – even thought she didn’t want him. How female is that?

Caleb starts out as trying to prove to Sophie that he is more than just a lowly lawyer. Despite his wealth and partnership status, he does more than donate money and his name to a cause – he donates his time to a pro bono (free) legal clinic in that same bad part of town. I liked that he was uncomfortable around guns, as I think most city-raised men would be.

Taken alone, these characters might not have piqued my interest. But when brought together they work towards one goal – Kellie’s safety as well as the truth of what happened – and that brings out the best in both of them. Alone, they are regular people. Together, they are good.

Dr. Sophie Monroe is ready to set the record straight with sexy (pretentious) Caleb Quinn. She is going to prove to him that she is way more woman than he can handle with her sexy black dress all the while making sure he knows he can't have her. She spends her days taking care of the homeless, the poor and the needy at her inner city clinic. Looking out for those who either can’t or won’t look out for themselves. Caleb Quinn is a lawyer, enough said.

Caleb Quinn just wants to prove to the sexy doctor that he isn't the pompous ass that she thinks he is. So when she calls at the last minute to tell him that she will not be spending Christmas Eve with him at the fundraiser for HER cause, due to an emergency at her downtown clinic, he drops everything to be her knight in shining armor.

Could two people possibly be more different? Probably not, but when united to save the future of a young girl and her newborn son they come together to take on one of the most powerful men Vancouver’s inner city has ever seen.

This is an intriguing tale. The characters are interesting and at times funny. I felt the frustration of both Sophie and Caleb and their plight. The plot moves quickly and held my interest a little too well; I would have read it at red lights if people behind me hadn’t kept honking.

Off The Grid by Karyn Good.
The tag line "She wants to save the world. All he wants is a date." Perfectly describes the opening scenes. Sophie Monroe captures my attention in the first paragraph. Her surroundings are unexpected. The snow fall on Christmas Eve cannot cover the detritus of the place she plans to save.
But it is Christmas Eve and she is reluctantly going on a date with Caleb Quinn, the hero. She is going under duress because it promises to raise funds for things her clients need.
The author Karyn Good keeps the suspense tight and the romance sparking as the evening quickly changes from the expected to danger.
Sophie and Caleb are surprised at every turn and assumptions are disproved.
Karyn Good had this reader guessing as she cautiously revealed information similar to the inhabitants in her neighbourhood.
This is a story which never loses sight of it's purpose, to keep the reader in suspense as well as being able to watch a romance flourish.
I recommend it for an entertaining read.

Off The Grid

Review by Heidi Lynn

First, I would like to thank Goddess Fish Productions and Karyn Good for providing me with this book so that I may bring you this review.

Huge secrets, drama, mystery, betrayal, cover ups, murder, romance, twists and turns on every corner kept me on the edge of my seat. Off the Grid sure satisfied my craving for that mystery I have been craving.

Sophie had to be my favorite characters in the book. She has a huge heart of gold wanting to help every patient in need. However, Sophie puts her own life on the line to help out a very pregnant Kellie. I loved the fact that they had scenes at a medical clinic in Vancouver.

Off the Grid's book cover does not do the book justice.

HOT DANG!!!! Yes, I'm trying to make my review as nicely worded as possible! Folks this book will have you on edge! The suspense it brings, the romance it gives, the balance it has of the characters and story plot show the remarkable skill of the author! The twist you don't see coming... Yep, enough to expose enough truth, but why is it held back... If you haven't read Off the Grid yet, you are missing out! I believe this will be a hot book for 2015!

I liked romantic suspense tale from Karyn Good. It all occurred at a fast and surprisingly believable pace. The description of the city’s dirty side was exciting and made me feel like I was there, the bad guy was really very bad. Another aspect of the tale i enjoyed was the strength and rawness of the interactions and relationships of the main characters.

This was a fast moving story with a satisfying ending. I felt so badly for Kellie, trapped in an impossible situation with only drug addicted and mentally ill Marnie to help her through. Sophie's relationship with Marnie was heartbreaking, and although Sophie's connection with Caleb seemed really quick, it was gratifying to watch them come together.
