This collection of stories and poems really made me think differently about what accessibility and inclusion can mean.
I really enjoyed getting to know each person’s story, learning a little about what inspired their poem, and then reading a poem that shared their perspective on reality, life, and what access means to them.
The book was quick and easy to read, with each story giving you time to pause, take it in, and see things from a different perspective. I loved getting to step into each person’s reality and experience how they navigate life beyond their disabilities.
The writing felt refreshing and gave me a lot to think about. I definitely appreciated the opportunity to see the world through so many different perspectives.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read and review this book! ❤️

I had the pleasure of blurbing this gorgeous book, and I can't recommend it enough. As a person with "invisible" disabilities, I felt so seen. The people featured in the book are from a variety of diverse backgrounds, and each profile includes their stories, a poem, and photography. It is a vital read for anyone living with disability to feel seen, advocates to understand better, and everyone to realize just how vast, diverse, and beautiful the human experience is. While emphasizing ways to advocate and how we can progress disability rights.

Thoughts:
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This poetry anthology contains a broad range of disabilities, including invisible and rarer ones and I was happy to find one with my disability as it’s rare but I felt so seen. I liked the note on disability and identity at the beginning, especially as person first or disability first is a hotly debated topic in the community with some being offended by one or the other so we’re aware we may see both and it lets those who will be upset to make the decision straight off whether they want to continue or not. I also liked the photo and mini biography being there with the poem instead of all at the end as when that happens I often find myself having to flick back and remind myself what’s going on with my condition impacting memory, which makes it inclusive. However, having the poem origin before we read the poem itself is different and it kind of ensured we were reading it as the author wrote it and stunted some interpretation to our own experiences.
Favourite Quote:
“You assume
That I
Can
Do more
Than I really can
Making me feel
Like I should
Shoulder
More weight
Than I can bear.”

I window into a world that most people aren't familiar with. Informative and humanizing. It is impossible to capture every experience of disability in the world, but this book succeeds at dismantling the monolith of "people with disabilities" that so many people are lumped together in. Each person's story is different, and each profile encapsulates an entire person including their life beyond their disability. A very important book particularly for able-bodied people to read.

This is a sensitive and insightful exploration of life with disabilities that goes far beyond the stereotypes and tropes it is far too easy to fall into. Highly recommended.
