In the backwoods of Arkansas, moonshine runs thicker than blood. When a liquor run turns ugly, Charlotte is thrust into the illegal business of runners and brewers. There's only one person who she trusts enough to lean on.
Jase might have left for city living but now he's back to his roots in Copper Ridge. And he isn't a newcomer when it comes to the ways of country politics or a particularly fiery redhead, who has a knack for getting herself in trouble. But the girl in his head and the woman he finds in his arms might be more than he bargained for.
I live in the South with my husband and a demanding Double Doodle, who keeps me company as I write.
It was my passion for books and years of reading that finally pushed me into writing. Okay, there may have been a couple of author friends that encouraged me to write my own books. Anyone who reads my stories and finds themselves entertained will make me feel as if I've accomplished my goal.
I love proper adventure romance with spunky heroines and hot hunky heroes, and Copper Moon by Donna Taylor is a great example of this.
It has great pacing, a strong female lead - Charlotte (who berates herself at going a bit gooey for Jase, our hero, and it's completely understandable - but I love that she doesn't turn into some kind of swooning bimbo at his first look, like so many female leads do). Char is a bit of a firecracker, and her stubbornness and bravery make her an interesting one to follow, even as she falls for Jase.
With romance and action/adventure in equal measures, this certainly captured my interest and I found it to be a real page turner. I'd really recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance with a bit of guts (not horror/gore guts, I just mean real-life resilience, not fairytale swooning!) or those who enjoy a mystery/crime adventure, because I certianly didn't see the ending coming, it was a real twist!
I can't wait to read more about the characters in the Copper Falls world!
Copper Moon was brought to my attention by Donna Augustine on Facebook. I liked the cover, the description and took a chance. I had just read 'Fated' by Donna Augustine and was intrigued about another Donna :-)
This is a first book by Donna Taylor and I really like her writing style. The words and sentences flow and it is very pleasant to read. I also liked Charlotte a lot.
Charlotte has lost her parents and grandmother and she only has her grandfather left. Her grandfather is famous for his moonshine (illegal alcohol) but at the start of the book he decides it is time to quit. He is getting too old. In the meantime: enter Jase. Jase has returned to town and is immediately attracted to Charlotte. He once saved Charlotte when she was 14 years old and she has had a crush on him ever since. She does not want him to know, so she is rather catty to him. He is not deterred.
The story really takes off after they find her grandfather dead in the woods, murdered. Charlotte knows her grandfather has records of all his sales and vows to find his killer. Jase wants to keep Charlotte safe...
Yes, the story has been done before. It is a mix of romantic suspense and romantic mystery and it is not really that original. But I liked the book, enjoyed the characters and the plot. The romance was believable and a main focus.
I was intrigued by Jase's 'friend' Sawyer and read on the author's website his book will probably be next. Well, count me in as a new fan.
I was lucky enough to win this book from a Goodreads Giveaway. I loved the romance and the mystery of the book. It is a good beach read or a quick read to get your mind off of things. The characters were great and I even found myself laughing a few times.
