Sometimes a girl’s gotta flex her quills and lay down the law…
Katie Carmichael may not be a scary badass dragon capable of toasting her enemies to a crisp, but that doesn’t mean she’s a pushover. And sure, the roaring, fire-breathing hottie is, uh, hot, but she’s a chick with a plan. A plan that includes a secluded old farmhouse and doesn’t include a tall, heavily muscled, and totally delicious weredragon.
Joey Kenton, new owner of said old farmhouse, has plans of his own. They revolve around one, curvy, spitfire werehedgehog and whether their children will be hoglets or dragonlets—Joey would be happy with either. Until Katie’s life is threatened and he realizes that her life is more important than his love for her.
Of course, Katie realizes Joey is an idiot and when she revises her plans…
Celia Kyle & Mina Carter are 2 of my favourite pnr authors, so together they are a blast. Lots of humour and cameo's from Ridgeville (Maya & Alex) & presumably from Stratton Wolves (owned but I haven't read them yet)
Lots of Dragon hotness & edgy hedgehogness. A cast iron skillet is used as an introduction between the two and the laughs continue from there.
Katie is a hedgehog shifter on the lookout for a mate, but she doesn’t want the one fate has got in store for her: The arrogant grandson of a very dear, recently departed friend, who swoops down from the skies to claim her and. Joey is a black dragon, and a member of the Elite Dragon Council; a group of dragons warriors who are too dangerous to claim mates of their own due to their responsibilities in the shifter community. But when he meets the prickly female in Goth attire, he just can’t help himself. His dragon wants who it wants, and it wants the prickly hedgie female.
Used to being treated with respect or even fear, due to his status as black dragon, Katie does not in any way follow the norm. He has his work cut out for him to convince Katie to accept him as her mate. In hindsight, grabbing on to her car and flying it across town with Katie in it, might not the perfect way to woo a girl, but their interactions, Katie's inter dialogue with her hedgehog and the accidental confrontation with the most dangerous dragon in existence cracked me up.
Very enjoyable, though I would have loved to know a whole lot more about these Elite Dragons. The fact that these tough creatures have been unable to find mates of their own, their happiness on Joey’s behalf and tiny glimmer of hope has made me want to know more about them.
Katie’s curvy cuteness and prickly attitude paired well with Joey’s charming seriousness. The story was a bit absurd, but that was part of the appeal in reading it.
Dragon Her Feet is a novella written by Mina Carter and Celia Kyle. The book can be read as a stand alone book but it is set in the same universe as Celia Kyle's Ridgeville series and Mina Carter's Stratton Wolves series. Dragon Her Feet features cameos by characters from each series but this book can be enjoyed even if you haven't read the previous books by Celia and Mina.
In Dragon Her Feet, hedgehog shifter is mourning a good friend who has passed away. As Katie is packing up her friend's house, the grandson and dragon shifter Joey arrives to help settle the estate. He quickly realizes Katie is his mate but due to insecurities Katie isn't wanting to accept Joey as her mate. Drama and hotness ensues. I really really enjoyed this story. Both main characters were great and I am always a sucker for cameos from characters from other books. Can't wait to see what Celia and Mina come up with together next.
Hedgehog shifter Katie Carmichael wanted a mate, just not the one she was given. Joey Kenton is a dragon shifter who is part of the twelve circle and he is thrilled to have found his mate, however convincing Katie he is the right choice as a mate is going to take a bit of strategy.
This was fun, loved the dragon shifter and he oozes naughtiness. Katie was a bit of a spitfire which you did not expect from a hedgehog. Also got a little Maya and Alex which is always a treat.
Highly enjoyed this book and it was so good I managed to read it in one siting. I really like these two authors. The books they write together are exceptional. Highly recommend them.
To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with this book. It is a romance between two different shifter species, a dragon and a hedgehog, which I found appealing. However I didn't like the fact that even though they were mates, they weren't necessarily going to go through with the whole mating thing. Plus I thought the storyline was slightly dull, not enough happened for it to really hold my interest.
The main thing about this book though that really bothered me was that the main character Katie was a werehedgehog and yet you never got to see her shift into her hedgie form. Hedgehogs aren't a typically used shifter species and it was the reason I actually decided to read this book. I wanted to see a hedgehog and especially with her dragon.
“ Well, that hadn’t gone well. Correction, it’d gone south faster than a hooker giving a blowjob.”
I’m sorry, I don’t care what anyone says, but this very first line set the pace for the entire book for me. I laughed so hard I just knew that if the rest of the book continued in this vein I would be perfectly happy and I wasn’t disappointed. This brainchild of best-selling authors Mina Carter and Celia Kyle is very smoothly set in the same area as both Mina Carter’s Stratton Wolves series and Celia Kyle’s Ridgeville series however can be read completely on it’s own.
Only from the minds of these ladies can we find not only a were-hedgehog, but also a were-hedgehog that happens to be the mate of a black dragon. The size difference alone between their were-creatures sparks many a conversation and funny lines that I am sure to remember and still chuckle over for weeks to come. The cameo appearances of both the Alpha of the Stratton Wolves series and the Ridgeville Prime is definitely not to miss and another of my favorite moments.
“Can I come to the bar now?”…. “No you can’t.” “But I wanna meet the dragon.” “No.” “What if he promises not to eat me?” “No.” “What if he promises not to eat me in a good or bad way?”
Again… I’m sure my laughing out loud caused many a stare in my direction. It is scenes like this that has officially made this one of my favorite books of the year. Katie and Joey, although an unlikely pairing were perfect for each other and I loved every minute of their will they or won’t they moments, especially the sarcastic, tongue in cheek ones.
A must read for anyone who enjoys funny, quirky characters and great one-liners.
Katie is a werehedgehog who just lost a man who was like a grandfather to her. She goes to pack up his house and encounters a stranger, aka hits him in the face with a skillet, who turns out to be the mans grandson, Joey, who is a black dragon shifter and her mate. Joey is used to being treated with respect and feared due to his status as black dragon and one of the twelve of the dragon council, but Katie doesn't fear him nor does she show him any sort of respect. He has his work cut out for him to convince Katie to except him as her mate. The interaction between these two left me in stitches and Katie's inter dialogue with her hedgehog cracked me up. I missed the first book, Hedging His Bets which is about Katie's best friend and her hedgehog alpha but I've just bought it and I'm looking forward to reading it.
I am sucker for hedgehogs and I love unusal shifters so scooping this book was a one click waiting to happen.
It wasn't god awful but it wasn't good. If the heroine resists for...reasons.. lol If they had talked for 5 minutes we could have had more falling in love and less oh my mate!
The internal monolouge of the heroine is funny but there isn't much else here--not even for a guilty pleasure. Sigh.
Dragons are my favorite characters in the shifter books and I am not getting enough of them. I loved Celia Kyle and Mina Carter collaboration and what came with it: a cute hedgehog with a lot of humor and a dumb dragon but sexy. I hope they will continue the series and write more about the rest of the dragon council. I still wish for longer stories but I guess it will not happen that soon. Now I need to get to read the Stratton wolves series.
Wonderfully fun relaxing read when everything is imploding around you. Sit down relax and enjoy. I've waited a long time for the follow up to Hedging His Bets. This one lives up to the first, and now I want books for all the 12 and the Queen. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dragon and Hedgehog love story... Very fun. Would love to see a spin off series on the 12... Only negative with this series is I wish these were a little longer.
Katie is cleaning out Old Man Kenton's house when his black dragon shifter grandson, Joey, shows up. They both recognize instantly that they are mates, but Katie knows that they can't possibly work things out. First of all, Joey is a sophisticated, big city guy and a powerful black dragon. Katie wants a quiet life in the country where she can mate and raise kids. But Joey is determined to prove to her that they're meant to be. That is, until his job as a black dragon on the Council puts her in danger and Joey rethinks whether he can even have a mate.
This is a bit of a silly romance with just a dash of angst thrown in. Anyone who has read my reviews in the past knows that silly humor (as opposed to the dry, sarcastic kind) in romance doesn't really win me over. It doesn't detract from the story, but it doesn't make me love it either. I picked this one up mostly because it's a romance between a dragon shifter and a hedgehog shifter. How unique, right? Sadly, our heroine, Katie, the werehedgehog, never shifts into a hedgehog...and given the scrapes she was in at times, I found that pretty surprising, since a hedgehog would have been a useful shape for running and hiding. We do get plenty of dragon shifting however.
Joey and Katie definitely have a lot of sexual chemistry. In fact, I'd say their sexual chemistry overshadows any romance they could have had. Their drive to mate took over, and so they don't get to know the first thing about one another or ever actually converse about important things...the kind of things that make you feel like a couple is falling in love instead of succumbing to mating urges. For example, when Joey first shows up, Katie takes Joey to task for ignoring his grandfather for 20-some years, not coming to his funeral and not being there when his grandfather was sick and asking for him. Joey never explains his reasons for this to Katie and she gets so hot and bothered with lust that she drops it and after they start "dating" Joey's grandfather is never mentioned again. So, obviously lust is more important than knowing whether her mate is a decent guy or not. Katie also frequently tries to show or somehow tell Joey that they are wildly different people from wildly different worlds, but Joey never listens. He's full of smug, smarmy confidence that he can seduce this woman despite what her brain wants. All he hears is blah, blah, blah...sex! He doesn't care that she loves her car, or longs for a quiet life...he doesn't know that she used to crush on her alpha or even understand how much she supposedly loved Joey's grandfather. He knows nothing about her and doesn't make an effort. That's not love...that's lust.
I did like the fact that the heroine refused to be the one who was broken-hearted and was actually the one to go after him when she knew he'd messed up. However, I didn't really care for the fact that the heroine, by doing this, lost out on the home she'd wanted and the only friends and family she'd had...with no offer of compromise from the hero. But I guess he was in an impossible situation, and it's not like the heroine cared, since she realized that all she wanted was Joey. I still kinda think it sucked for her, since he didn't have to give up anything.

This book was so confusing, seriously. Throughout the first half of the story Joey is a strong, even a little arrogant, über Alpha and fully on board with the mating thing, then suddenly halfway through he becomes a complete and utter cowardly idiot.
The characters just hate each other and fuck and hate each other and there's no real romance or plot to it. They don't actually bond, they just fuck, and it's not even romantic fucking. They have this "you know you love me" while being extreme assholes to each other for no reason. They never resolve the actual issues they have and never make an attempt to. They just kind of hate each other. I hated this not just because it was bad, but because it had no sense of what consent is truly supposed to be like. It's always 'there's one line too far that they won't cross' with these ~bad boy~ characters and not an actual semblance of understanding that crossing the smaller lines paints a picture of a lack of trust. When characters act like this there's supposed to be some sort of trust that they build with time. These two never did. There isn't any real love, just some weird carnal feelings they have. I wanted to DNF this but honestly felt a bit obligated to finish it in order to warn others about how shit it is a book for survivors.
The second book in the Honey and Fur series, and the first story in the Dragon's Council series a well written story that held my interest throughout. Katie Carmichael is a werehedgehog who was there for Joey Kenton's Grandfather when the Grandfather needed her, before he died. She is now packing up the farmhouse when she hears someone in the house with her, shall we say she does not start off very well with Joey a weredragon who is part of the Council of Black Dragons. I found myself laughing as I read this story. A story that has suspense, drama, danger, and romance, a story I enjoyed reading. I read a copy through KU and I am reviewing it.
By Celia Kyle & Mina Carter Katie is a werehedgehog Joey is a dragon I love the first line. Read a couple of reviews that mention the first line and how funny it was, and THAT is what pulled me in. And it's funny and it set the pace of the book. Joey is a Black Dragon one of 13. (Who wants a series, well I think Mina Carter wrote it under HER name.) This was a cute and funny story.
What a perfect blending of the two authors books since I have read both I enjoyed this book very much just a little off the timeline though because I know the queen and Duke of the blacks have mates but I loved it if you haven’t read either series then I say you should definitely do so you will enjoy promise
I just binge read the Council of Black Dragons 1-6. They are very short (ranging from 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hour per read). They are entertaining. Personally, I skip the smexy scenes and read for the story. The plot for each is interesting and my only complaint is that they are too short.
Recommended but due to the length, don't expect too much depth.
The banter is delicious, the nickname Sweetness I didn't care for at all though, which is odd since I've read plenty of nicknames 😆
No world building, just details of where they were at. Which isn't a bad thing, sometimes world building is boring and I find myself skipping over it lol
The idea of a hedgehog and a dragon though, that threw me and I'm not sure I'm down for it. But the personality of Joey and Katie is wonderful and I loved that!
These hedgehog shifters might be little, but they sure are prickly. Imagine a massive, fire breathing dragon shifter wanting to mate a small hedgehog with lots of attitude. It boggles the mind. A fun, slow burn romance morphing into a full blown conflagration. 🔥🔥🔥 Looking forward to reading book 2. Enjoy!
Wow this was such a brilliant read, once you start reading you won't be able to stop till the last page, it was full of fun, adventure and danger, who ever thought hedgehog were scary cats try again Kate is full of life and snarky humor,
2.5 stars - Didn't like the story or any of the characters at all. The h is feisty, mouthy and an emotional explosion. Lives hand to mouth with others, no real life skills. The H is similar, not very smart and gives her up very easily. Nope.
Well I am a fan of Mina Carter and this is brilliant, I got annoyed with Katie here and there but that's ok. I thought the characters where well written and I just wanted to punch Joey in the face.
OMG this story was amazing!! Katie is just full of sass and hilarious. Which is good cause Joey needs all the help he can get lol. Yep they are just perfect for each other ♥️
Joey is a big bad black dragon, the baddest of the bad good guys. Katie is a wee little hedgehog, a cute little bundle of fur. Cute novella that has her dragging him back to her side where a mate should be.
I knew what type of book I was getting in to before I began. I just hoped for a 3 star versus a 2. I could not get into the main characters. There was no connection for me which had me skipping a lot of the naughty fun stuff.
