When I was eight, I wrote my first book — eighty‑seven pages, one paragraph, and a sci‑fi story called The Bird of Time. I handed it to my mother, hoping she’d read it. She didn’t even open it. She just said, “Nobody is ever going to read what you write.”
I threw the book away. I didn’t throw away the writing.
My mother struggled with addiction, and I was too young to understand that her words weren’t really about me. But they stuck. For decades, I wrote in secret — twenty‑plus novels that lived in drawers and folders because I was afraid she might be right.
When I turned sixty, I realized something simple and brutal: the only way she’d be right is if I never tried. So I started publishing. And readers found me. And they asked for more.
Maybe she was wrong. Maybe this is the story I was supposed to write all along.

I received an advance review copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. When They Come For Her raises the stakes to an absolute fever pitch. Book 3 shifts the narrative beautifully from a story of running to a story of fighting back. Mara’s resilience against a corrupt system is inspiring, and her bond with Evan grounds the fast-paced danger. Steven Marks handles the themes of autonomy and public manipulation brilliantly. It is an intense, emotional, and impossible-to-put-down thriller.

I received an advance review copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. Steven Marks outdoes himself with this phenomenal third installment. The tension is suffocating as the world closes in on Mara, making the commentary on institutional greed feel terrifyingly real. Mara and Evan's dynamic shines, and watching her transition from a survivor to a fighter is incredibly rewarding. It is a smart, fast-paced, and deeply moving thriller that sets up the finale perfectly.

Are you kidding me???? I can live with where this ends but I want to know more. Marks has made an amazing series I could see on TV, but resolution for Mara leaves me wondering about the rest of the world. Author put ??? On the list of books in the series where this is listed as the last one so I know more is coming… please!
