We finally get beyond the fight scene that took the past few volumes! I cannot believe how little damage is taken by Border with what they are handed. And there is a sad scene involving one of my favorite characters.
We get a bit more into the politics of Borders and their public relations. We also meet Osamu's mother. I love that everyone assumes she is his sister. Haha!
The rank wars begin! Now this I am liking so far and look forward to seeing where they go. 30-some agents everywhere in the past volumes was a bit overwhelming so these smaller groups is a very nice change of pace.

Overall, World Trigger is a captivating shounen manga that combines action, strategy, and the power of friendship to create a unique and engaging story. The plot revolves around the Border organization, which protects humanity from invading monsters known as Neighbors.

This story focuses on the Tamakoma-2 squad: Osamu, Chika, Yuma, and their operator Shiori. Their individual goals and backgrounds forge strong bonds, and their diverse combat styles showcase the series' well-balanced system. While the intricate plot and large cast can be overwhelming, the characters' depth and creative strategies keep readers engaged. The detailed Trion system may confuse newcomers, and the pacing can be slow due to the explanations and character development. Lastly, the art style may not appeal to everyone. Also what I like is that, unlike stereotypical shounen protagonists, Osamu experiences realistic growth and stands out for his strategic abilities rather than relying on overpowered powers.

Despite potential complexities and subjective art style preferences, the series is an underrated gem that deserves more recognition and is worth giving a try for fans of the genre.

This volume picked up from Volume 9 and continues the drama of the Neighbors/humanoid invasion story arc. Border was successful but had some trainees and civilians killed or went missing during the struggle. Border back tracks to cover their own butts until Osamu comes back with the truth, after almost dying in the process. Replica was died from several injuries and the team moves it at B Ranks, where they are competing for a spot against the A Ranked squads.

With World Trigger Volume 10, the large scale invasion completes. Sacrifices made on both sides bear fruit or frustration - most especially for the Earth side as a valuable member is lost. But one of the best World Trigger arcs begins in this volume as well - the continuation of the rank wars with Arafune and Suwa squads. Ashihara has said in interviews that Suwa is one of his favorite sets of characters - and he really has fun with them here. Poor Sasamori!

Story: Osamu has carried the 'Chika cube' all the way to the entrance of Border - and portal location to the Aftokrator ship. But as he is is pinned by Mira's warp spikes, he will attempt to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Chika from abduction. Yet it is Replica (and Miwa) who will play key parts in concluding the invasion in as favorable a manner as possible. Afterwards, rank wars continue as Tamakoma 2 is squared off against the all-sniper unite Arafune and gunfire-heavy Suwa. Can the they triumph against the powerful middle-rank B squads?

This second rank-war one is among my favorite of the arcs in the book since Ashihara has so much fun with Suwa squad. As well, we get even more scenes of Arafune jumping off a building (Ashihara calls him the stunt man par extraordinaire for the amount of times he jumps off buildings in this series). Foreshadow hints about the tide of battle are given in the advance briefings, with fun payoffs later on.

Included in the volume are rejected storyboards from before the World Trigger pilot (Elite Agent Jin) - showing how Ashihara originally drew the characters and the great changes in personalities and looks. Also a Q&A and squad bios (all of which will likely be in the "Border Fact Book" published in japan in March 2016). Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Osamu really made this volume as we see that he's truly a strong character not because of his fighting power, but because of the strength of his convictions and his willingness to stand up. (Also, what kind of jerk sets a fifteen-year-old kid to the take the fall for an entire agency?!) This volume reminded me a lot of the short story "The Strength of Men" from James Oliver Curwood's collection Back to God's Country in that real power comes from within rather than muscles.

This dragged a bit in the middle between battles with the neighbors and the b rank wars. I'm sad the anime has ended so I'll keep looking forward to these volumes and hope to eventually get to the end of the story. It's been a bit since I read this series so all the secondary characters' names are forgotten. I really wish they would include all the characters with pictures at the beginning. I'm not even sure if I had all the volumes I'd get all the characters, they tend to only include the ones I already know more often. :p

A nice slow down point and follow up to all the chaos of the last 4 volumes. Looking forward to the next story arc!

P.S. Daisuke Ashihara-san, concerning your self-esteem about your early storyboards: you are certainly NOT an idiot.

The battle between the Neighbors and Border is complete.
Neighbors: 1 dead, 1 abandoned/captured, 32 captured Border trainees
Border: 6 dead, 32 missing, lost Replica, bad PR

Next on the agenda: Pledge to rescue the 32 missing Border trainees by going to the Neighborhood
...but first, Mikumo Squad has to make A-Rank by fighting their way through the B-Rank Wars!

Every time I read a new volume in this series, I wonder if it is time to just stop. Here's another muddle of a book that ends with just enough momentum in the final chapter to make me want to see how the cliffhanger resolves.

Vol. 10 Carried the action around better than the Anime. It makes me want to read to manga more frequently now, seeing as I highly enjoyed it more. It was engaging and a good action page turner. If you haven't read any of the other ones, obviously read Vol. 1.

I really enjoy this story, but the multitude of characters make it a challenge for someone like me, with name retention problems, to follow at times.
