So, this is the story of Julian and Alexander (or Jules & Zander). They meet at school at 5 years old where friendship blooms and they become best friends. We follow their story throughout the years from age 5 till age 20. Zander's home life is shitty so Jules and his mom Theresa take him under their wing.
"I don’t know when I did it, or if he even realised, but our hands are now joined between our bodies, just like when we were younger. It doesn’t seem to matter how old we get; I will always reach for him, and I hope that he will reach for me, too."
My favorite trope is best friends to lovers and this book solidified that. I smiled, I awed, I blushed, I cried. I believed every single moment of their relationship from friendship to love.
I adored the beginning of their story. I loved following their friendship throughout the years since age 5 throughout the ages of 9, 11, 15, 16, 18, 19, and 20.
- Their hand holding and fingers entwining😩
- Jules not able to keep up with the rest of the class in P.E. so Zander swapping one of his shoes with his so that way they would both run as fast as each other🥺
- Zander always protecting Jules at school from bullies and beating up them up 🥺
- Zander just repeating Jules name over and over after that godawful incident😩💔
- The birthday gift from Zander to Jules🥹
- Jules going from being protected by Zander to protecting Zander and same for Zander😩
Literally everything about them is so damn sweet
This book is a slow burn. Their first kiss is at 61% and I'm not complaining as I enjoyed watching them as best friends being there for each other. And it was so worth it waiting for that kiss. And ughh that first kiss hit hard😩
Also if you expect spice and dirty talk, this is not the book. There are very few handjobs and bjs, no anal sex. Also, these few scenes are not meant to be spicy but just to deepen their intimacy between and further show their special connection. And I personally loved that it was not a spicy book but more focused on the emotional connection cause I will take hand holding/fingers entwining over a spicy scene any day and always🫠
God, these two and the way they love each other and how they are always there for each other😩 I just felt it. I felt their deep soul connection. I felt their need for each other. I felt that one cannot exist without the other. And this is the best kind of feeling when I'm reading a book cus that means the story is reaching out to me and tugging at my heartstrings.

Also EXCUSE MEEEE?!!! The author didn't think they broke my heart enough and had to include Jules's mom's POV💔 I sobbed river of tears at Theresa's POV😭😭 The way she loves both Jules and Zander and is sad to leave them but happy they have each other😩 The way she talks about their love😩
"Their love is the ‘one great romance’ everybody talks about, but only very few get to experience. Call it a mother's intuition, or just stating the obvious, but Jules and Zander have the kind of love that’s too great for just one lifetime. It’s been woven into their fates since they were small boys; some things are just destined to be."
And yes, Jules and Zander are destined to be. You feel it from the moment they meet at 5 and throughout every single interaction of theirs.
The 10 years later epilogue is so sweet and made my heart so happy for the two of them🥹

There are some tiny things that bothered me, some involving OP:
- At 24%, at age of 15, Jules and Zander go on double date and Zander kisses his date while Jules is there. There is no feelings beyond friendship yet between them. But what bothered me in that scene is that I didn't understand how Zander felt about the kiss.
- At 52%, there is a scene at Zander's workplace in the pub. Jules is waiting for Zander to finish the shift. Then Zander's boss (Toby) who was flirty with Jules tells him to stay as the fun about to begin, and instruct Zander to do drinks. Zander's co-worker Trix touches Zander then sucks on a lemon, which kinda get Zander turned on and he licks a drop from her chin then nibbles on her bottom lips before shifting and squeezing and kneading at her behind. Meanwhile, Jules who is watching is approached by Toby from behind, and Toby squeeze Jules hips then dip his fingers under the waistband of Jules jeans. Jules who is under the influence of alcohol surrenders to Toby's touch but is imagining Zander. Nothing further happens because Zander gets angry🤭 The scene itself is very short and fast and it is meant for both of them to see each other in different light and to allow themselves to acknowledge that their relationship and the feelings they carry to each other is more than simple best friends feelings, cause until that moment, neither of them thought or considered that their feelings are the romantic kind. So the scene is like a push to both of them. But it's just that the tone/vibe of the scene itself didn't match the rest of the book and that's what bothered me.
As someone who is sensitive to OP, the scenes bothered me a bit but didn't ick me or prevent me from loving and rooting for them or lower my rating.
- Other than that, it is implied that Jules is a virgin and that he'd known for a while that women don't do anything for him. It is also mentioned in passing that Zander always dated girls and enjoyed the feel of their bodies. So no icky sexual details or anything is mentioned about the past.
- I wouldn't say the book is perfect as some aspects of the story are not fully explored. But I don't care cus I'm a simple reader who just wants to feel connection between the MMCs and enjoy their relationship. Like literally a book can have million plot holes but insane chemistry between MMCs and emotional connection I can feel and it's 5⭐️ from me. I'm just simple like that🙄😂
- Something major that bothered me though is that the book ended and I wanted more of them😩 I wanted more pages of them being in love cus I'm just greedy like that🙃

I am completely undone by this book. From the very first line of the blurb, I knew I was in for an emotional rollercoaster, but nothing prepared me for the sheer depth of Jules and Zander’s story.
The childhood-friends-to-lovers trope is executed to absolute perfection here. The dynamic of the lifelong protector suddenly needing to be saved creates an incredible, heart-wrenching tension that kept me turning pages late into the night. Watching the lines blur between friendship and something much deeper—and the terrifying stakes of what happens when you risk losing your favorite person for a chance at love—was utterly captivating.

I don’t even know where to begin with this book.
It was absolutely amazing. There were so many layers to the story, a mother’s love, the friendship and love that grows between two young boys, the devastating effects of abuse, and so much more. Every part of it felt so real and beautifully woven together.
I cried repeatedly throughout. There were happy tears, so many sad tears, and moments where I just had to stop and take it all in. The story is so beautifully written, and the emotion in every page is completely palpable.
I honestly don’t quite know what to do with myself now that I’ve finished it. I think I just need to sit with my emotions for a while and be thankful that I had the opportunity to ARC read such a beautiful, heart wrenching piece of writing.
This is one of those books that stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page, and I know I’ll hold it in my heart forever 💜💜

This book was so good. I came across it on tik tok and thought I'd try it. It was best friend to lovers which is my favorite trope. Zander and Jules are best friends since they were 5 years old and this is their love story. Read the triggers because the book is heavy.

I have no idea where to start my review from, after reading this book. It’s truly amazing and has so many different chapters of life included in it that are described beautifully.
It’s a story about two best friends, Julian and Alexander aka Jules and Zander. Who are best friends since age five. One of them lived with his dad while the other lived with his mom. But both of the houses were completely different from each other. One tried hard to survive with his abusive dad, always looking for a reason to beat him up while the other lived a comfortable and normal life with his loving mom.
Jules is a shy, honest and a loyal person. Who believes that the world will be kind to you if you smile at them and be kind to them, that’s what he learned from his mother. On the other hand, Zander knows how naive Jules is but he still wants to protect him from the world’s cruelty.
This is a story that will make you cry, both happy and sad tears. It talks about pain, loss, reality, friends and most of all the bond between a family. This story also beautifully illustrates how family doesn’t have to be bonded by blood. As in the world we live in, blood-related families betray each other while adopted one’s love more deeply. Maybe it’s because people never appreciate what they already have and only appreciate something that they do not have.
🎬 Final thoughts:-
This is not the kind of book that I usually read and it was my first book in this genre, which turned out pretty well. So I am genuinely concerned how to move on from it as I know this book will stay with me longer than I expect it to be. But again it’s the reality of so many people’s lives and I really want them to have a happily ever after due to the hardships they have faced all their lives.

Take My Hand is, without a doubt, the best ARC I've ever had the pleasure of reading.
One of my favourite things about this book is the writing style. Author's prose flows so effortlessly that even though some paragraphs are quite long I never felt overwhelmed. As someone who isn't a native English speaker I really appreciate books where I don't have to constantly stop and think about every sentence as the words just seem to flow naturally making the reading experience incredibly immersive.
I honestly wish she would write a coming-of-age or even a young adult novel someday, because she's exceptionally good at writing children and teenagers. They feel authentic, funny, and full of personality. Every interaction between them felt genuine, and they were definitely my favourite parts of the book.
This isn't a story driven by huge plot twists or some crazy action and the plot itself is relatively quiet, but it's the kind of novel that stays with you because of its emotional depth. It doesn't need shocking twists to leave an impact.
I'm still not sure whether Jules's relationship with his mother affected me so deeply because it was written so beautifully or because it resonated with some of my own experiences. Probably both. And while his mother's death isn't exactly a surprise—the story gently prepares you for it as it does with Zander and Jules—it somehow hurts even more because of that. Instead of the shock of an unexpected loss, you're left watching it slowly approach, knowing exactly what's coming but being completely unable to stop it. That anticipation makes the grief feel even heavier.

Not tear up. Not get a bit emotional. Actual tears. The audacity.
This story follows Jules and Zander through the years as they grow up together, and the dual POV was absolutely perfect for it. Watching them navigate life, friendship, pain, abuse, love, mistakes, and all the messy bits in between had me completely hooked from the first page.
Now, if you're looking for a super spicy read, this probably isn't it. The spice is relatively low. The yearning, however? Through the roof. Off the charts. Olympic-level yearning. The kind that has you staring at a page thinking 'please, for the love of all that is holy, just kiss already.'
I devoured this book in less than a day because putting it down simply wasn't an option. Every chapter had me needing just one more page, one more scene, one more glimpse into their lives. It was heartbreakingly beautiful and beautifully heartbreaking all at once.

4.5 stars. Thank you to the author for gifting me with this ARC of their novel. I appreciate it!! And oh boy, what a journey! This was HEAVY - wow. I was not expecting that, but with the heaviness came a lot of depth both with the two main characters as well as the narrative itself. I felt the decision to choreograph this story starting when our main characters were 5 years old and met for the first time, all the way through adolescence and into young adulthood really worked and drove home the soulmate-level bond they had with one another. Was definitely getting Achilles & Patroclus vibes from The Song of Achilles. Back to the heaviness - WOOF. Trauma central. From abusive households to mental health struggles, to contending with terminal illness, etc. this was a wallop. Also, I wanted to give some unique praise to the author for crafting a story that was not overwhelmed with spice. While that is not necessarily an issue for me, I struggle when there is so much spice that the story gets sidelined. This was not the case here, and in fact, one might assume we have two "side" kings on our hands here. Definitely no shortage of love though...deep deep deep love between the main characters. Beautiful, challenging novel and once again thank you to the author for the ARC!

This book had me from the "From Me to You" page. Such a thoughtful touch, and the accompanying playlist was the perfect way to set the tone before I even started reading.
Jules and Zander completely stole my heart from Chapter One. Their connection felt so genuine, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way.
"I will always reach for him, and I hope that he will reach for me too."
That single line absolutely broke me. 💔
And then...
"With just one kiss I was willing to risk it all."
My heart didn't stand a chance.
This is such a beautifully written love story that goes far beyond romance. It's a story about finding yourself, navigating the confusion surrounding sexuality, discovering where you belong, and learning that love isn't always easy. I wish I had the words to give this book the praise it deserves! Katie has knocked this one out of the park yet again! If you have not read her books you are seriously missing out!
This is a MM tragic romance. It is so beautifully written! You will fall in love with Jules and Zander and feel their struggles and have a front row seat of their own love story. Reading this gives you hope even though the lives these 2 men have are not at all easy! But to know they have each other makes you believe in love and happiness. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Katie did an absolutely amazing job with this book. It was so beautifully written and the characters were well thought out. You learn to love carefully in this book, but also love fully. I loved that we were able to see this love blossom from the beginning in their young lives to full force on their adult ones. If you’re wanting a good read that will tear your heart to pieces this is it. I have never bawled so hard reading a book like I did with this one. It was absolutely breathtaking and an emotional rollercoaster. Even after finishing this book I can’t stop thinking about it. I cannot wait to see what Katie writes next.

The story line is tragic and emotional but brings them closer together with each hurdle they face and creates a true strong unbreakable bond.The pacing is realistic and doesn't feel rushed to add spice for fun which adds meaning to their journey with their fears and emotions being portrayed in a meaningful way. I didn't see the plot twist coming and it added even more depth to their connection. If you want a book that will make you cry in despair, laugh and get lost in its pages this one is the one for you.

If you are looking for an emotional, tragically beautiful MM read, then Take My Hand is a must! The beautiful part is Zander and Julian’s life long friendship that evolves into a love that is all consuming and complete devotion to each other. I love the way they look out for and protect each other. Zander took on the protector role from the beginning but Jules stepping up when needed the most was amazing. The tragic part was everything outside of their bubble. Julian’s mom is amazing and I loved her response to Zander’s issues with his Dad and the way she took him in and gave him a safe space. I was wrecked by the end of the book but I’m so glad I was able to experience this beautiful love story.

I love the way the author writes her characters. Both Jules and Zander are sweet and frustratingly realistic in a way which makes you forget you’re reading at all.
Take my hand will definitely stay with me. I loved spending time with these characters from childhood through to when they are adults. The development of their relationship has such emotional depth and pays off in the most beautiful way. The support Jules and Zander offer each other is so heartfelt that you can’t help but love them.
This isn’t only a love story. At its heart, Take My Hand is about friendship, found family, grief and healing.

I was kindly allowed to ARC read this book Take My Hand and what an amazing sweet read.
It defiantly a book on finding yourself and your soulmate, the trauma these boys go through together and help heal each other theoughout the years is everything; its been very well written very respectfully written as well.
Now this isnt the type of book i usually go for! (And i dont mean the MM aspect!) but im so glad i read this, as its opened my eyes that not everything has to be a million pages or be super complex to keep my attention.
