About the author

Dhruv Bhatt was born on 8 May 1947 in Ningala village of Bhavnagar State (now Bhavnagar district, Gujarat) to Prabodhray Bhatt and Harisuta Bhatt. He studied at various places, standard 1 to 4 at Jafrabad and Matriculation from Keshod. After studying commerce for two years, he left further studying[1] in 1972 and joined Gujarat Machine Manufacturers as Sales Supervisor. He voluntary retired and started writing career.[2]

His novel Akoopar has been adapted into a play directed by Aditi Desai.[3] Tattvamasi was adapted into the 2018 Gujarati film Reva.[4]

જાદુઈ પ્રભાવ કહો, કે ધરોહરની પ્રત્યેનો લગાવ. તમે ગમે તેટલી વાર વાંચો આપણા મહાકાવ્યો ને, કદી ધરાવાય નહિ. ધ્રુવ ભટ્ટ અહીંયા એવું જ એક નવું રૂપ અહીંયા પ્રગટ કરે છે આપણા મહાકાવ્ય મહાભારત નું. દ્રૌપદીના મુખે તો નહિ (જેમ પ્રતિશૃતિ હતું ભીષ્મ નાં મુખે) પણ તેના દૃષ્ટિકોણ થી. અને હંમેશની જેમ, લેખક તેમના ગહન ચિંતન ધરાવતા સંવાદો અહીંતહીં વેરે છે, એટલી સુંદર રીતે કે તે જરાય કૃત્રિમ નથી લાગતા. ને કૃષ્ણ અને કૃષ્ણા ના તો દરેક વાર્તાલાપ તો એટલા સુંદર, કે વિચાર આવે, કે લેખક જ્યારે કૃષ્ણ વિશે લખશે, તો કઈ ઊંચાઈએ પહોંચશે એ કૃતિ!

હા, બહુ જ પહેલા લખાયેલ હોવાના લીધે (અને કદાચ બીજું જ પુસ્તક હોવાના લીધે) ક્યાંક, કઈક નવું, ખૂટતું હોય તેમ લાગ્યા કરે છે અહીંયા. ટ્રેડમાર્ક ભટ્ટ દાદા જાણે હજુ મેકિંગ માં હતા. છતાં, એક વાત તો છે, ખરેખર એક અલગ જ મહાભારત તમને અહીં વાંચવા મળે છે. તે પણ ' રચનાત્મક સ્વતંત્રતા ' લીધા વિના. તો પછી કેમ કરી ચૂકાય?

"તેર વર્ષ બાદ યુદ્ધ થશે. એ યુદ્ધને દોરનારા અને પ્રેરનારા બે જણ હશે. પરંતુ તે બન્નેમાંથી કોઈ પણ પ્રત્યક્ષ રૂપે યુદ્ધમાં ભાગ નહીં લે. એક હું અને બીજી, પાંચાલી; તું. આ યુદ્ધમાં આપણે લડીશું નહીં છતાં એ યુદ્ધ આપણે જ લડવાનું છે."

મહાભારતની સનાતન કથા ધ્રુવ ભટ્ટે અગ્નિકન્યા દ્રૌપદીને કેન્દ્રમાં રાખીને પોતાની આગવી શૈલીમાં આલેખી છે. દ્રોણને પરાજિત કરે એવો પુત્ર પામવાની મહેચ્છાથી કરેલા યજ્ઞમાં અગ્નિના આશીર્વાદથી જન્મેલા જોડિયા ભાઈ બહેનમાંની એક દ્રૌપદી મહાભારતનું શ્રીકૃષ્ણ જેટલું જ અગત્યનું પાત્ર છે. એટલે જ કૃષ્ણ દ્રૌપદીને કૃષ્ણા સંબોધીને કહે છે: "કૃષ્ણ અને કૃષ્ણામાં તાત્વિક રીતે કોઈ ભેદ નથી. પ્રશ્ન માત્ર શ્રદ્ધાનો છે"

૨૫૨ પાનામાં દ્રૌપદીને કેન્દ્રમાં રાખી મહાભારતના મુખ્ય પ્રસંગો આવરી લેવાયા છે. ‘અગ્નિમાંથી પ્રગટેલું અસ્તિત્વ બરફના ઢગલા તળે’ ઓગળી જાય ત્યાં સુધીની પાંચાલીની જીવનયાત્રા આલેખાઈ છે. મહાભારત જેવી મહાકથા વર્ણવવા માટે ગમે એટલું મોટું ફલક ટૂંકું પડે એ કૃતિની સહજ મર્યાદા અહીં પણ છે પરંતુ આ કથા ભાવકને સંક્ષિપ્તમાં મહાભારતની કથાનું રસાળ રીતે ધ્રુવ ભટ્ટની અનોખી શૈલીમાં પાન કરાવે છે. દ્રૌપદીને કેન્દ્ર સ્થાને રાખીને લખાયેલી હોવા છતાં દ્રૌપદીનું પાત્ર બીજા પાત્રોની જેમજ સપાટી પર રહે છે અને સુદ્રઢ રીતે ઉપસી આવતું નથી. દ્રૌપદીના ઘણા સંવાદો, ખાસ કરીને કૃષ્ણ સાથેના સંવાદો એની મનોદશા અને મનોવ્યથા સુંદર રીતે વર્ણવે છે પણ બધા સંવાદોમાં એ સાતત્ય જળવાતું નથી. પરંતુ આર્યવ્રતની આ સનાતન કથા અને ધ્રુવ ભટ્ટની આગવી ચિંતનાત્મક શૈલી સાથે જકડી રાખે છે અને અંતે ભાવકના મન ઉપર યુદ્ધની ભીષણ સંહારલીલા પછીના વિષાદ જેમ છવાઈ રહે છે.

The writer has tried to imagine that he met Draupadi and she told him her story. But, it is not as good and as deep as his other stories like Akoopar and Samudrantike, where he has actually met people and woven a story around them. The depth is missing in this novel. He should continue with his travel based novels only.

This book is basically a part of epic Mahabharata from the event of gambling between Duryodhana and Yudhishthir.
Draupadi is the center of entire book and story is written from her perspective.
Book is a short read and covers a vast part of Mahabharata till the end of war between Pandavas and Kauravas. Hence it seems a hurriedly written book but still gives us some unknown insights about the epic and the life of Draupadi and Shree Krishna.
Overall a good read..

સદીઓથી મહાભારતની કથા અલગ અલગ રીતે કહેવાતી આવી છે. કથા એ જ છે એમાં કશું નવું નથી. પણ આ જ આપણા મહાકાવ્યની ભવ્યતા છે કે જેટલી વાર એ કથા વાંચનમાં આવે ઘણું નવું મળે.
ધ્રુવદાદા એ આ જ મહાભારતની કથા દ્રૌપદીના પરિપેક્ષથી કહેવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો છે. અને મહદઅંશે સફળ પણ થયા છે. કથા ખ્યાલ હોય તેમ છતાંય વાંચકને કંટાળો ન આવે રીતે પકડ જમાવી છે અને નાના નાના સંવાદોથી ઘણું ઘણું સમજાવ્યું છે.
વાંચતા વાંચતા ક્યારે પૂર્ણ કરી લો તેનો ખ્યાલ જ ન આવે તેવું આ સરસ પુસ્તક.

Super amazing tale. Like all other books, Dhruv Bhatt amazes once again. The entire Mahabharata is narrated from Agni-Kanya -Draupadi’s perspective and total unbiased. All the important incidents and sensitive descriptions gives soul to story.
A must read for all.

ધ્રુવદાદાનું લગભગ બીજું પુસ્તક કે જેમાં મહાભારતનું વર્ણન કર્યું છે દ્રૌપદીના પરિપ્રેક્ષ્યથી. 50 પ્રકરણમાં પથરાયેલી આ કથાનો વહેતો પ્રવાહ એકી બેઠક પર પુસ્તકને પૂર્ણ કરવા મજબૂર કરે છે. શ્રીકૃષ્ણ અને દ્રૌપદીના સંવાદ ચોટદાર છે. વાંચવાયોગ્ય પુસ્તક.

Effective and heart-throwing character of Panchali, we can feel her through the word of an author. Author must have to get into her emotions to write her naturally, as she is. and Dhruv'da has succeed in it.
