Looks like an interesting test prep/critical reading series.

This is the beginning level, G3-4. Includes excerpts from "The Cricket in Times Square" and some things I have at best vaguely heard of. A1, the next up, is geared more to older (The Jungle Book!) and recent classics (Mr Popper's Penguins, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Owls in the Family, etc.).

There are parallel Math Detective, Science Detective, Writing Detective, etc.
