The Ashpaw: Part One
The Ashpaw does not belong.
Fern was ten years old when a wounded wolf marked her on a full moon night—a claim forgotten until duty forced the alpha to finish the job a decade later.
Torn from her home and bound to a man who keeps her by obligation rather than desire, Fern learns quickly that safety means invisibility, especially with his promised mate watching her every move.
But when her first shift fails and Alpha Darion names her the clan's scapegoat, invisibility stops being a strategy and becomes her only hope for survival.
The problem is that something in her refuses to stay hidden. The wolves around her feel it before she does. They’re watching her too closely, defending her too quickly, and caring in ways that threaten the fragile order holding the clan together.
And all the while, the alpha who should want her least keeps finding reasons to look her way, keeps finding reasons to pull her close—and just as many reasons to push her away.
He doesn't want her.
He won't let her go.
And she's running out of ways to survive both.

I was sure it's not an easy task to write more misogynistic piece of work than Carnage Island, but here we are.
At one point while reading this book, I looked at myself in the mirror and realized that I had an expression of complete disgust on my face. You can do angst pretty good like it's done in Traded - or you can do it, well, like this. This book is manipulative af, milking trauma like it's a cow after calving.
There isn't a single character in the book that I want to sympathize with. From the doormat FMC with hoarding problems to one of MMCs - abuser and, let's be honest, rapist. But, of course, the main evil is a woman. Well, almost every female character in this book is a "mean girl" (or indifferent at best), and our girl is not like other girls.
From time to time, the FMC is visited by bright thoughts that slavery and being a livestock for breeding are a bad things. But these thoughts are completely forgotten to the end of the book 1. I really, really hope that in the second part Fern burns all these clans with their hellish hierarchies, re-educates her inner she-wolf and becomes independant woman with a mice. Give me some Dogvill. But I'm sure what we'll get is some grovel by irredeemable MMC and pregnancy as HEA. No, thank you, not gonna read this.
This novel looks like it was written (or most likely edited) for simpletons. It's smooth and lakes any real depth. I've found only 2 good thing about this book (that's why I give it 2 stars and not 1): a) the cast system in the clans is quite original; b) the cliffhanger: I really didn't see it coming.

Just gonna leave this here. It’s misogynistic nonsense. Written for simpletons.

🔴 This is a poly romance, not a RH 🔴
1 star because the author failed to disclose in the blurb that the book contains MM.

Oh my gosh. I saw someone recommend this book on reddit, and I'm not a huge fan of OV but this was so so so good.
The mistreatment, neglect, and the hurt hit me so hard I may have shed a tear for Fern. I was so worried this was not an RH I had to search up the book just in case because there was NO world I would have accepted Darion as her mate.
There needs to be groveling. Intense, full out tears and rejections and hurt in the next book!!!

The Ashpaw 🐺
Wow, what a story🙌 I’m learning that this author is a master of her craft and her stories that make one think, but also dig deep emotions out of you as a reader. There are sooooooo many times I wanted to hit a couple of these characters but also throw my iPad in frustration at those same characters…alas I needed my iPad to finish reading 😂
Fern is an interesting character who I feel is still developing and learning. Darion, Eidan and Reinn are all alphas, even though Darion and Eidan are brothers..Reinn brings an intriguing twist and knowledge with him. After that twist at the end - which I certainly did not see coming - I’m excited to find out what happens next❤️🩹

4 stars | So. This book is pretty silly. It’s werewolves doing some nonsense and bowing down to an alpha in a medieval setting. Also the FMC is helpless, small, and scared. HOWEVER. I liked it a lot and I have some very specific reasons why.
First off, Darion can suck it, good heavens he is terrible. I think the specific way he is terrible is interesting though. For once, I didn’t completely hate the dude POV chapters because of how he talks to himself while he’s doing very bad and evil things. Like every time he finds out that something he already did had a really horrible outcome for everyone involved, instead of feeling guilty and doing something about it, he pushes down his guilt and tells himself there’s no point in feeling bad and “from now on” he will be a better person. Which of course… doesn’t really ever happen because he never actually dealt with the problem. He just expects everyone else to forgive him and move on because he already forgave himself. It made his character actually make sense and maybe taught me something about life or whatever don’t talk to me about it.
Second off, I love the idea of this horrible society needing a scapegoat in order to survive because the working class knows “it can always get worse”. None of the women ever complain about their crappy lives because the Ashpaw they are actively shunning and mistreating is always lurking, like how could you complain about not having any rights when someone who has even less rights is right there. If you’re frustrated with your station in life, go ahead and take your anger out on the weak one, but also don’t complain because that fate could easily be yours.
Buuuut at the same time, being at rock bottom of the pecking order has its advantages because no one tells you what to do or expects you to accomplish anything. The future is bleak, but at least you can’t get sold off for your reproductive capabilities or given any responsibility. As much as they hate the Ashpaws, they kind of have it made in a way.
It just made me think a lot. And that’s a weird feeling when I’m reading a sexy werewolf book at 2am.
Yeah, the whole werewolf thing … being one just sounds like the worst, there are absolutely no upsides honestly, especially for the women who used to be human. Yeesh. Fern, our FMC, has a serious case of “never done anything wrong my entire life and somehow nothing good happens to me ever” disease, which sucks for her and also me because I like her and want her to be happy. Too bad, so sad, that never happens. She’s helpless but more because she doesn’t actually know anything about werewolf society and everyone around her is too big of a dick to explain anything. When she gets the opportunity, she is very nice, intelligent, and just trying to make the best of her situation. Which, again, completely sucks.
Every progression of the story shows her situation going from bad to even more bad. There’s nothing worse than being a partially turned were wolf right? Wrong. There’s nothing worse than being an unpaid werewolf servant right? Wrong. There’s nothing worse than being the ultimate social pariah? WRONG.
It can always get worse, basically the moral of the story.
So yeah, I pretty much loved it, but I get it’s not perfect or for everyone also it maybe ruined my life because if that sequel isn’t at least confirmed soon I will lose it. Seriously, someone needs to add a “cliff hangar + no sequel” filter to my kindle app, I have to stop yelling at my phone in the middle of the night, the neighbors probably hate me.

Another why choose that could've been amazing but the author unfortunately completely ruined it by adding MM.

100% honest ARC review
To put it simply, this is a misogynistic slavery book. I enjoyed the writing style and the beginning. However, I absolutely hated the majority of the middle. The FMC was a weak doormat. Additionally, it was very annoying that her wolf made her want to forgive the MMC when he constantly disrespected, abused and mistreated her. If that was relevant to the plot for the rest of the series, it shouldn't have been drawn out for the entire book. I am not sure if I'll read part 2

I read this in one sitting. Why? Cause I kept on waiting for Fern to grow even a sniff of a backbone or Darion to finally catch a freaking clue. Maybe there's going to be miraculous character arcs in part 2... or more likely, to quote Hilary Duff's character, Sam in A Cinderella Story, "waiting for you is like waiting for rain in this drought. Useless and disappointing."

I hope she will cancel or remove her mating bond to Darion.

Oh man, where do I even start with The Ashpaw, Part One? I went into this book thinking it was a normal omegaverse, but the worldbuilding was something else entirely. It was fantastically written, and I completely fell into the intricate plot and the richly detailed world. It’s rare to find such immersive storytelling.
The characters were exceptional. Each MMC had their own distinct personality and compelling backstory, and seeing how their relationships evolved and the profound impact this had on Fern was just chef's kiss. I adored Fern as a FMC; her struggles for survival and her internal journey were so palpable that I could truly feel her emotions in every part of the book. The way the alpha who should want her least keeps finding reasons to pull her close, yet push her away, created incredible angst and tension.
Now, for a slight personal note (and this might be a spoiler so don’t read ahead, if you have not finished this book): the MM scene in the end caught me off guard. I mostly enjoy my reverse harem/why choose books without MM, and I thought this was one of those. It felt a bit disappointing and somewhat unnecessary and, for me, didn't quite fit the established dynamic, making me a little worried about how prominent this aspect will be in Part Two..
Despite that small point of personal preference, this book is undeniably a five-star masterpiece. The depth, the angst, the captivating plot, and the brilliant character work made this an absolute joy to read. I loved this book from beginning to end and am now anxiously awaiting Part Two to continue Fern's incredible journey!

I’ve read Clara Bracco’s work from the beginning, and her writing has matured with each release. This duet centers on the complexities of the rejected mate storyline. It begins with an injured wolf marking a young Fern. Years later, he’s confronted with the decision he’s avoided: to reject her or acknowledge the bond he created. This sounded really promising and I expected he'd resist but eventually claim her as his mate...🤪
Fern has to deal with anguish of being the rejected mate and forced to live with the consequences of her mate's choices while still bound to him. The tension is heightened by the uncertainty of his intentions. We’re never sure whether he wants her back out of genuine feelings or simply because he cannot bear the thought of anyone else claiming her. (She's an omega and the pack's "precious" asset) It creates an extremely angsty story.
This book was marketed as a reverse harem though I'm not sure!!! So if Darion isn't end game then who are the three males (or more) that'll be part of her harem. Oh the cliffhangers... We get three POVs mainly from Fern and Darion. One male that Fern is friendly with, Eidan, also gets a couple povs. (Reinn is also another that doesn't)
Tropes
Paranormal Wolf shifters
Rejected Mates
Other woman drama - she has to "share" her fated mate.
Please check triggers at the beginning of the book.

What the heck did I just read??? The emotional roller coaster that this book has taken me on is something to be studied.
First of all, this book made me want to be so violent for Fern who gets trampled all over like a dirty doormat. And speaking of doormat, let’s discuss The Ashpaw. So you’re telling me that young Fern saves this wolf pup and he marks her. Just to the show up a decade later to claim her, set her aside and abuse her, deem her The Ashpaw aka THE KITCHEN RAG, completely uproot her life and neglect her and NOW he wants her?! Oh and it’s not because she’s kind and charming and sweet and honest (WHICH SHE IS), it’s because other people proved to him that his mate is a scheming, lying, abusive jealous twat who is threatened by the fact the the Ashpaw is a FREAKING OMEGA!!!!
If you cannot tell by my review, I am crashing out over here. The part that just sent me over the edge (as if I weren’t teetering for 3/4 of the book) was the massive cliffhanger we are left with. Hopefully my cortisol is balanced back out by the time part 2 is finished. 😂😂 Anyways, 5⭐️ and author Clara Bracco’s writing is amazing as always.

A Heartbreaking, Addictive Read
I was hooked from the very first chapter and didn’t want to do anything else but finish this incredible book.
Fern is a human woman who, as a child, steps outside on the night of a full moon and nurses an injured wolf pup back to health, only to be bitten for her trouble. Ten years later, that wolf pup has grown into an alpha who intends to take another mate, until he realizes he shares an unexpected bond with the little girl who once saved him.
After Fern is kidnapped and taken to the Sabletail wolf clan, her life becomes a nightmare. Forced into servitude and subjected to far worse, she endures so much throughout this story. My heart broke for her over and over again. The lack of respect, compassion, and care she receives from the one person who should have protected her was infuriating. I was so thankful she had a few good men in her corner to remind her that not everyone was against her.
That cliffhanger absolutely destroyed me and left me with so many questions. This was my first book by this author, and I think I just found a new favorite. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Clara Bracco is a new author for me and I am awed by the depth of this book! Fern’s misery, her spirit, and her grace all came through with such emotion and extraordinary insight. I felt every moment of happiness, sadness, despair, loneliness, and betrayal as she navigated her new world. Alpha Darion’s selfishness, cruelty, and neglect may have been influenced by his betrothed, but it will take more than a heartfelt apology to win me over.
I love PNR and this book had shifters who had only heard of omegas, no harems, and a very dark atmosphere. Fern’s few happy moments came from other alphas, but Darion’s possessiveness was demonstrated every time someone interacted with her. I have so much hope that she’ll be treated as a treasure, that the wrongs she suffered are made right, and that she’ll find her heart and soulmates! The cliffhanger was brutal: the ultimate betrayal, so surprising, and heartbreaking! Book 2 can’t happen soon enough!!
5🌟 stunningly beautiful story!!

Genres:

Paranormal Reverse Harem
Dark Fantasy
Trigger Warnings: Abuse, rape, sex, violence, death, and profanity.
Part One of The Ashpaw by Clara Bracco absolutely devoured my night—I stayed up reading straight through until morning, which should tell you everything about how gripping this story is. A Shifter Omegaverse tale woven with trauma, tension, and relentless drama, it had me yelling at the characters more than once. (Darion, I’m looking directly at you.)
The pacing is tight and the plot kept me hooked. Several moments led me to believe the story was heading in one direction, only for it to whip around and pull the rug out from under me. Not in a bad way—it kept me emotionally invested and loudly reacting to every twist.
I need Part Two immediately. That ending was brutal in the best way.

I was gripped by The Ashpaw right from the very first page! The author has crafted an incredible world with rich, medieval vibes and an utterly fascinating concept that nails all the best omegaverse tropes.
The character development in this book is phenomenal. Every single personality shines through with so much detail, but Fern had my heart from the beginning. Seeing how cruelly she was treated broke my heart—especially by her chief tormentor. The fact that she saved his life when he was just a young pup, only for him to be so gullibly led astray by his mate, made my blood boil! Just when you think he’s finally figured things out and Fern is going to get the treatment she deserves... BAM. That plot twist at the end completely blew my mind!
If you love a spicy omegaverse romance full of high stakes, brilliant twists, and deep emotional angst, you need to read this immediately. I'm still recovering from that ending!

This book made me want to keep reading and never put it down. I now crave Book 2 and can't wait for its release. I love shifter romances especially if they are a little bit dark. This one hit a home run. Fern is originally a made werewolf and there is just something about her that draws the other werewolves attention. It also makes the new-to-be mate of the alpha heir who bond Fern in the first place. She is put through hell and back because of the menace of one woman. There are two other alphas who want her but Damion claims her once she becomes an omega. Then things get dangerous because of another clan. Fern is stolen and thinks she is safe but it comes out that it was a trap staged by one of the alphas who took her. Will she survive? Will her original alpha find her? What will happen in book 2? I highly recommend this book to all dark Omegaverse shifter romance readers.

I received this book as an advanced reader copy for free from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book was absolutely infuriating and made me want to inflict violence on several of the characters. To see Fern, the FMC, go through so many incredibly traumatic experiences, from her swift demotion to Ashpaw (the Pack's "dish rag"), isolation, beatings and punishments for things she hadn't done because of other characters jealousy and manipulations left me with an aching jaw from gritting my teeth.
So, as far as I can tell, the author has achieved what she set out to do in creating Darion, the alpha of the Sabletail Clan and, Kyntha, his soon to be mate and daughter of the Ironcoat Clan's alpha.
Despite my consistent fury I really quite enjoyed the story, seeing Fern begin to realise her power along with her vulnerabilities. I found Eidan and Reinn rather endearing and the saving grace to the easily manipulated, willfully blind Darion. And I actually can't wait to find out what happens next.

Oh my goddess, what did I just read?
I could not put this down, read this in one day…
I could feel Ferns desperation, hope, disbelief, trust, every emotion rolling through her. From being a little girl helping a wolfling to being betrayed and disregarded by her alpha.
Very well written, great characters… I wanted to smack Darion around the ears for his treatment of Fern… good story, action, politics, deception, manipulation and soo much more.
Absolute mustread, cannot wait for reading how this story unfolds with Fern being captured by the… oh no, that's a spoiler😉

"Things could always get worse."
And they often do for poor Fern.
Bitten and forgotten about for ten years, she's forced to serve as a slave to a werewolf clan to clear the "debt" of her turning because the alpha, Darion, who bit her, needs a clean slate before getting engaged. But the wolves are interested in her in ways no one can explain, including Darion. And when his mate-to-be notices, he takes it out on Fern and finds an excuse to make her the "Ashpaw" (the clan scapegoat).
This is the type of book that brings you up only to slam you back down even further than you were before. Read for the angst, stay for the hope...

4.5/5
oof… if you can’t take owd on steroids and a fucking asshole of a man throughout the entire book without one redeeming quality this isn’t for you.
but me? i loved it 😩 i read this in one sitting (and i normally don’t fuck with 3rd person books but i liked this one)
so fucking angsty i could die from it
i had so much rage i could kill darion in a thousand different ways so he can definitely fuck a cactus and die
it became a bit repetitive and honestly SADIST to see how darion was treating her without any type of intervention but okay i get it, i get it…
hopefully this turns into a trilogy and not a duet because i feel like the relationships need a lot more to develop and the story itself needs some polishing too

Quickly becoming a favorite author of mine. This is like the 4th book from her I’ve read now & I love them all.
Apparently I’m more of an omega-verse fan that I knew.
The writing is just fantastic. The characters building is just phenomenal. The descriptions are enough that you know what’s going on and you can picture everything in front of you but not so much that it’s detracting. This story pulled me in from the first chapter. And just when you think you know exactly what’s going to happen, nope! And that ending. WHAT. Come on now please I need part 2.

This book has it all, love, family, hate, jealousy , mates, kidnapping, and spice. Fern was a human, or at least until she wasn't. When she was young she helped a wolfkin who would have died without her help. When she got older she had to be locked up every month during the full moon. Then one day the wolfkin came back for her. She becomes and Ashpaw because she could not shift therefore she was a nothing. Even though she was the Ashpaw wolfkins wanted her. What is she? How does it make it fair that she cannot shift? Why is the alpha Dorion hate her so much? Cannot wait until book 2 comes out.

Writing and editing was coherent and acceptable. That’s pretty much the only redeeming feature of this book.
Pushed through because I was waiting for SOMEONE to grow a backbone and actually make a good decision. But that never happened. Everyone just sucks.
At this point it’s just a doormat FMC, two useless MMCs and one horrific coward rapist MMC who I hope dies but unfortunately I feel will get some pathetic redemption arc in book 2.
Also some unexpected MM at the end of the book. Doesn’t bother me and this one-star rating is for multiple other reasons, but I know it’s not everyone’s jam.

The Ashpaw: Part One is a very good story of dark fantasy romance.
Clara Bracco delivers a story of true emotional intensity. She explores the pain of isolation of FMC who's vulnerability feel very human.
From first pages, the action never lets go. Fern's quiet resilience stress me, I prefer FMC with good confiance but before the end, she will be.
The push-and-pull bond exit give me trill to finishing because habitualy, I prefer book around 300 pages (404 here). But this book need the 400 for the evolution of personages.
I wait for the part two with anticipation.

I absolutely loved this book. Fern really pulled me into the story, and I loved watching her grow and find her place throughout the book.
My favourite part was watching the relationships between Fern, Darion, Eidan and Reinn slowly grow and change. I loved the different connections she was building with each of them, even though at times Darion frustrated me no end. Nothing felt rushed, and I became so invested in all of them as the story went on.
There is still so much I want to know about Fern, Darion, Eidan and Reinn, and I cannot wait for Part Two. I need the next book now!

This story really grabbed me from the beginning. The back and forth with Darion was giving me whiplash when it came to Fern. He didn’t want her, but he did. There was clearly a pull between them but he tried so hard to not answer it. The depth in this was amazing. Fern was really going through it and it was felt from beginning to end. She had my heart the entire time. I absolutely loved the world building in this. The dynamic, the characters. All amazing and so well done. I can’t wait for the next book so I can continue with Fern.

Oh my lord that ending. I absolutely was not expecting that! This story was excellent! I felt so bad for Fern. The whole story she is just smashed down at every turn. Darion just struck me as brainless most of the time. So easily manipulated. I loved Eidan from the start, also Reinn. I want to love Darion too. I would love this story to end with 4 Alphas a beta and an Omega. And hopefully only one female in the groip because the other was very brutally unalived.😁 Im sure its gonna end on a happy ending, fingers crossed it ends on my happy ending. Wow seriously that ending!

Okay the actual heck?!
I saw this recommended on reddit and after the disappointment of the omegaverse I'd been reading I was desperate for a book that delivered and oh boy did this book ever! I have never read a book this big in less than 10 hours.
Immediately I was immersed and could picture thsi world so vividly. The writing was so well done.
My heart hurts so bad for Fern and hate hate hate Dorian. How can a man be so cruel and stupid and unforgiving. Genuinely wanted to bludgeon him through the screen of my kindle.
But the plot twist and the characters, I loved it all. 5 stars!!
