So I have a hard time finishing this book.

“so you know how serious I am. I’ll never leave you again unless I’m six feet fucking under. You got me?”

Taking the Fall Vol.2 continues after the ending of book one. Carter left Layla without telling her, she didn't even know where he was until this book. I don't want to forgive Carter for leaving Layla. However, he gives her the reason to believe he doesn't want to desert her.

By the by, this one is extremely hot. Carter is a big bad alpha as always, he wants to consume Layla alive and possess her. The story also deduces why she lost her memories that night and what her wicked father wants from her.

Diving into the next book right now !

“It’s adorable when you demand things”
Well I think I can appreciate this. I know I wasn’t expecting this to have a riveting plot or poetic prose to enchant me. So looking at this one more objectively, now that I’ve got some experience under my belt, I think it’s well done in its own way.
I mean she does cater out one sex scene every chapter along with some decent half-baked storyline, even if a lick of it, and considering the total number of chapters doesn’t even hit double figures, I think it’s a fair enough job.

BUT….

There is only so much objectivity I have. I mean it’s taken everything in me to try not to but I have to say that the MC is an ASSH*LE of epic proportions! Words like misogynist and sexist fall way short for him.

All the dialogues like “I need to claim you” & “You belong to me” & “All your holes are mine” & “I’m too big to fit in you” had me snorting again at work yesterday! Oh gosh, I have had such a laugh with these 2 books that I think I will see this series through :D
Here are some gems from the book ;)
“Carter, what are you doing?”
“I’m fucking worshipping your p*ssy, Cherry”

“Cherry, my love, it’s been 3 months since I tasted your honey. I’ll talk, but it’s gonna be muffled”

“I plan on staying balls deep in some part of her body for the next few days. I’m ready for a fuck-fest of Guinness World Record proportions.”

PS: My boss legit thinks I've gone crazy! :D

From this dirty mouth to his bedroom talents I was hooked and I'm still anxious for more. I haven't ever ever gotten into serials before but Alexa Riley may have created an addict. All I want to do is say gimme more now!!
Perfect alpha..totally 100% OTT possessive and LOYAL. Everything he said had me sighing! Can't wait for the next installment.

This starts three months later and Carter is on a mission but Layla knows nothing, all she knows is he's left her again without a word.

Her life changes and still no Carter but then something brings him back and everything changes. Layla finds out exactly what happened that night and how much she means to him.

I didn't enjoy this as much as the previous one because Layla has a TSTL moment.

Holy Crap, Volume 2 brought a shitload of trouble along with a ton of sweetness.

Carter has FINALLY claimed the woman he loves, he's told her everything she needed to hear and they're completely happy, well almost, they only have one thing standing in their way, her father.

After reading through what Layla and Carter have been through together you can't help but feel for them and hope they get their happy ever after but it definitely doesn't come in this book, oh no.

Alexa Riley did awesome with volume 2, can't wait to read volume 3 now and see what goes down ;)

Warning: Volume 2 contains more sexy hotness, sweet gooey love, and an alpha male who would do anything for his Cherry.

4 1/2 stars, volume 2 starts where volume 1 left off. Layla is pregnant and Carter is gone. Thinking Carter loved her and she would finally have what she always wanted Layla is heartbroken. But what Layla doesn't know is that Carter left to make sure she was safe and to take out any threat to their happy ending. When Carter hears about Layla being in an accident he returns immediately only to find out Layla is pregnant with his baby. Now knowing he has to keep them all safe but also knowing he can't leave them again Carter sets out to final finish it all.

This is a great follow up to volume 1, Carter is just as possessive if not more once he finds out about the baby. Lala is IT for him everything revolves around her for him. The continuation of this story is great and I can't wait to see what comes next and untimely how it all ends.

Holy Jesus. if you thought Carter couldn’t be more dominant, YOU WERE WRONG. More grit, lots more sex, and a whole lot of danger make this second installment way more fulfilling than the first. Speaking of filling….Carter most certainly does that. over and over again. mmhmmm….

Carter’s back and ready to protect Layla at all costs. He thought that he could stay away to handle his business, but when Layla is placed in danger in his absence he’s determined not to be apart from her for another second.

The raging dominance in this book once again skirts the line of crazy, and Carter should probably see a therapist about his anger issues; however, he adores Layla and that’s what won me over in the end. Layla’s a little sassier in this installment and I was extremely happy when she started asserting herself. Granted, she makes a really dumb decision there at the end, but where would the fun be if she didn’t?

You learn more about Carter’s past in this one and the blurry pixels are starting to come into focus. I’m definitely hooked on this one now – get me book three! MORE STORY PLEASE.

Oh Carter how I wanted to nut punch you at the end of Vol 1! Now I want to wrap you in bubble wrap and cuddle you like crazy!

Taking The Fall Vol 2 is just as wild and crazy as the first! Who knew a man like Carte could be so sweet and hard in the same breath. He LIVES for Layla, everything he does, he does with her in mind.

This book started off exactly where the first ended so you miss nothing. When he gets a call that Layla was in an accident he heads back to her. And boy is she mad, but thrilled and hopeful at the same time.

Carter comes and takes over just like before, but this time Layla demands more from him, and boy does he give it! He explains everything, his life, why he did what he did all those years ago, and even now. Finding out Layla is preggers with his baby, something clicks in his brain and her lays everything on the line for her.

Layla is still feisty as ever and even more stubborn then before. With the baby coming she wants to be whole, and to do that she believes she has to let Carter go. But we all know that’s not happening.

You will laugh, you will cry, you will want to throw down and scream your head off in this book! But in the end, most of all, you’ll pray! For Layla Carter and the baby to get their happy ending, for Saint and Jeannette to get theirs too! Because what lays ahead will stun you!

I love how this book, to me, seemed more about Carters past and his decisions than anything. (I love the mans POV) This book is raw and gritty, and the damn ending!! OMG!!! Alexa you’re killing me with these cliffhangers!!! I can’t wait to read the conclusion to Layla and Carters story!!

5 amazing stars from NADBB!!!

What the actual fuck? I'm not sure how to rate this but I couldn't not give it four stars.

This guy....I mean, I don't even know. He is so fucking alpha that on one of the many times he fucks her he "wrote" the word Mine on her ass with his cum.

It's predictable and eye roll inducing, but in the same respect I liked it? It's fun to read these types of books every now and again because you don't have to think about it and they're quick!

Reading the third volume now.

On to the next!

Carter has laid claim to Layla, who refers to as Cherry and now he is going to do what he can to protect her. He is finishing what he started but his woman is trying to move on and keeping a secret, Carter has to come up with a new plan.

Excellent, just what I had hoped for in the second book in this series. Definitely a page turner.

4 Stars!

Alexa Riley never fails with her steamy novels. This was definately a very sexy read. I keep telling myself i'm going to wait till all the books are released and read them together becuase these volumes are so short.. but I have no self control!

The story continues with Carter finishing up more business and coming back to his Cherry. His controlling and demanding behaviour has not changed over the past three months, and neither has her doormat tendencies. But they are it for one another and I found Carter very sweet and attentive in this volume, aside from the growling MINE every chapter.

Carters sweet and alpha personality summed up in two quotes:

“I break the kiss, because she deserves to know how I feel. “I love you, Layla,” I breathe and just stare at her beautiful face. “I’ll never leave you again.”

“Say it, baby. You’ve got your face down, pussy in the air, and ten inches balls deep. Whose is it?”
“It’s yours, Carter. It’s only yours.”

I can not put these books down! Without giving anything away from the first two books, we now find Layla and Carter trying to make a go of their relationship. We learn a lot more about her father's crooked past and how Carter came to be in her life all of those years ago.
However things are not going to be easy for these two. As they try to make a break from the lives they had and move forward together, Layla's father reappears and is out for blood.

Just finished Taking the Fall: Vol 2 by Alexa Riley. Have to say, I’m loving it so far, though Carter can go a little less Caveman-ish. Don’t get me wrong, I still think he’s H-O-T and I know he loves Layla despite everything, so that should be more than enough for me. Oh well, guess I shouldn’t be complaining as I had been warned in the blurb. :p

Layla’s infamous father hired Carter as her bodyguard when she was 16. They’ve been attracted to each-other ever since, though Carter is quite a bit (10 yrs. if I remember correctly) older than her. He wanted her but knew she’s too young to take this to the next level. Knowing that she feels the same didn’t work, but Carter was biding his time to make her his. One night changes it all. Something happens and throws Carter in jail 8 yrs. for manslaughter. The details of that night would escape Layla completely but no one told her exactly what happened. Not even Carter. When she finally escapes her a$$hole of a sire, 4 yrs. into Carter’s jail time, Layla goes to see him in hopes that he still feels the same about ‘them’. Unfortunately, she returns brokenhearted, as Carter acts as if he didn’t care any longer.

4 more yrs. later Layla is in hiding and trying to move forward with her life, though Carter is never far from her mind. She thought he’s a part of her past now, yet it’s not working with her current boyfriend since he doesn’t burn her body and soul like Carter’s kisses used to. She knows she’s completely owned by Carter and that’s the sad part. That he doesn’t want her anymore. What Layla didn’t know that Carter still lives and breathes just for her. And he’s still keeping tabs on her thru his buddy, Saint.

When, then, he so suddenly returns into Layla’s life, she’s overwhelmed by his presence. But she welcomes it with all that she had. Carter proves to her for one whole night just how much he’d missed her, and the fact that he hasn’t touched a single woman ever since he’d clapped his eyes on her. By that I mean since he first saw her. *sigh* He knew Layla owned his soul completely, even if she had no idea of her powers over him. Now is the time for him to claim what he’d always considered his. Finding Layla a virgin (I didn’t take any issue with it TBH, she’d always wanted Carter) only made it all sweeter.

When, the next morning, Layla wakes up alone, finding Carter has left her once again, she’s hurt, sad and then, angry as hell. I can’t blame Layla as Carter didn’t give her any clue to what he’s up to. Layla opens up to her BFF Jeannette, who has already entangled herself with Saint, not knowing he’s Carter’s man. It was apparent that the wild girl had also fallen for Saint, yet she doesn’t hesitate to drop him when Layla finds out she’s pregnant and Saint, seeing no other option had to come clean.

Vol. 2 picks up more or less from where Vol. 1 left off. Here, we find more revelations about Layla and Carter’s past and what happened in that fateful night. Also the progress (if you can call it that) of Jeannette and Saint’s relationship.

It starts with Layla trying to deal with her current dilemma. She’s been trying her best to, again, carry on without Carter. But when he learns about her being in hospital for a minor injury from Saint, Carter flips. It becomes doubly so when Saint also confirms her pregnancy. There’s no way now that he’d stay away from her, the rest of the world can go to hell.

It’s been 3 months since Carter’s been away, planning and investigating Layla’s creepy dad, the bane of his existence. In his mind, the man would pay for his sins sooner or later, which we find later not only concerns Layla but also Carter’s own parents. It also explains how and why he ended up in Layla’s father’s gang. But Layla was never Carter’s target. He didn’t even know she existed, but soon discovered just how the man liked to keep her hidden, as if she’s some kinda possession of his. He saw that she was never treated with love and warmth, let alone respect, so all in all, he always wanted to protect his Cherry. Now that she’s his by all accounts, and with their baby on the way, Carter would do everything to see that she’s safe from that cruel man.

But first, he must apologize and make up for leaving her alone for the past 3 months, also for not keeping her updated about his plans. I won’t blame Layla for not putting up a fight, since hers and Carter’s association was like... inevitable and she had every right to be angry. But I didn’t like the way Carter treats Justin, Layla’s ex-boyfriend. He and Layla were still friends, nothing more that. But who’s gonna make Carter understand that? LOL That man can’t stand anyone coming near Layla and he knew Justin from prior information gained thru Saint. TBH, it’s hot once or twice, but I’ll find it annoying if it keeps happening. Layla had to make Carter understand that no one’s ever gonna come between them. Much like him, there has never been anyone for her either.

When Layla puts her foot down, Carter finally has to come clean about everything, giving her an idea of what they’ve been dealing with where her father was concerned and why it’s important that she be under protection 24/7. And for that, she needs to move in with him to another house which is much more protected than her small apartment. A fortress of sort that’s specifically designed for that purpose only.

But then, Layla’s daddy dearest returns and blackmails her into doing something drastic... My only question is, how am I gonna survive ‘till next week for Vol. 3? :/ Damned cliffy! 4 stars.

This gets 4 just for how fucking stupid Layla and her decision to meet with her dad was.

Edit: Okay I was being petty and changed it to what it deserves. This book deserves 5 stars just for Carter freaking out after having less than gentle sex with her when he finds out she's pregnant. Comedic gold. I love him.

It`s more like 2.65 STARS. Yeah, yeah. Strange rating.

BUT THIS STORY MANAGED TO PISS ME OFF SO BADLY THAT I WAS SWEARING LOUDLY IN MY MIND! AND I FREAKING HATE TO SWEAR! I PRESERVE THAT FOR ONLY WHEN I AM ANGRY AND BELIEVE ME I AM FURIOUS!

I`m pissed for 2 reasons:

1) Layla

In such a short time she managed to become such a weak voice. "Yes, Carter" to everything. WHY THE HELL NO?

2) Carter:

It`s just that he represents everything that I L O A T H E in a man!

Firstly, the looks. First impression is everything. THIS GUY IS A MOUNTAIN. And I find that to be repulsive. Have you seen those guys, whose hands are so muscular that they can`t even hold them to their sides?? THAT`S THE CASE HERE. Those guys also happen not to be as tall as I like (Biology, spines and so on), their forehead is too small for my taste, their impression is too dumm for me to like and...JUST EVERYTHING IS WRONG!

Then comes the language. A wise man once said:

Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women - and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do.
THEN WHY AREN`T THEY LEARNING HOW TO SPEAK PROPERLY WITH A LADY???

This Carter guy adds "FUCKING" and "SHIT" to every single sentence!!! For example:

"What are you fucking doing here?"
"Are you fucking with me"
"You look so fucking good with these shoes."
"Get your shit and we are fucking going out of here"
"I had to get my shit done"

The more I read, the harder it got! Let`s be clear: I HATE to swear! I hate people who swear. And if they do it around me or swear in order to insult me, I get creative with ways to shut their mouth. THAT IS WHY THIS PISSED ME OFF! This is the way I have been thaught to behave! Because no one from my family swears and basically I was raised to be a princess! THAT IS WHY, PEOPLE, MIND YOUR LANGUAGE AROUND MY YEARS OR BEAR MY ANGER! I like gentlemen! Those guys who are very tall (come on, I am very tall myself, when I`m on heels I get TALLER, I like a guy who can kiss me normally and not on his toes!) Those guys who have actual HAIR, who don`t wear that dumm expression and train in order to keep fit, not look like a freaking tank!

Dear Alexa Riley, who wrote the Carter guy, thinking he`s sexy and can make women wet, please take notes:

(to see the picture in larger size, click here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/3194747...)

The third thing is his..."dominance"...

LET`S JUST SAY THAT CHRISTIAN GREY IS AN ACTUAL SAINT COMPARED TO THAT STALKER BARBARIC CAVEMAN, WHO IS JEALOUS WHEN SHE TALKS WITH OTHER PEOPLE. THERE WAS ONE SCENE HERE THAT IS JUST NOT OKAY.

I REPEAT: NOT OKAY!

Also, he intends not to propose to her....Let me quote this absurd:
You think I am some normal guy who will bend to one knee and propose? Nothing like that will happen. You are mine, I am yours. You are going to be my wife. End of conversation.

Now world, I am pissed again, (exactly as I was after Vampire academy #6 and Ruin & Rising) so HEAR ME SWEAR AGAIN.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS HE THINKING???
HOW IN SEVEN HELLS ISN`T HE GOING TO BEND THE KNEE? THAT IS HOW THIS STUFF HAPPENS! Also, just proposing is totally boring. You have to find a way to sway me off my feet!!! For example, an ideal proposal can happen after you`ve jumped with a bunjee rope from the bridge across the Zambezi river! NOW THAT`S A THING TO REMEMBER!

AND HERE??? NO PROPOSAL. NO "I LOVE YOU". JUST SENTENCES. Don`t tell me romance is dead, Alexa Riley, or I`ll kick you through the internet!

*Phew* *Wipes sweat from brow*
Now, that hate rant was intense! There were three things I liked in this book, though, despite my detest for Carter.

1) The action. Some serios killing is going to happen, because the mafia boss father is back.
2) More sex. It`s what the whole story is about after all, isn`t it?
3) JAENETTE AND SAINT. MY BABIES. THEY ARE SO FUNNY!

Now I am heading with all the courage that I have to read Volume 3 and IT BETTER BE GOOD!
