Skyler Rayne was pretty, smart and sassy. Or so that's what Sullivan Forest tells her when he first sets his eyes on her. When Sky stops doing what is expected of her and starts letting go, it is only a matter of time before it all catches up with her. With a mystery man that her parents want to set her up with and Sullivan who is intrigued by her but has secrets of his own... When the rules of dating don't apply how will Sky define her relationship with Sullivan? Or is at just a bad romance?
Bad Romance is a quick read, and well worth the effort. I enjoy reading romance/erotica books in order to better understand relationships between men and women and this story provides a unique perspective on romance in our era.
The story follows Skyler as she is starting a new job with a law firm and finds herself being pursued by a co-worker, Sullivan. They have a chance encounter at a bar and Sullivan, or "Li", grabs her keys while outside the bar and drives Skyler home. He stays the night and she is impressed that he did not take advantage of her. Thus begins Bad Romance.
I really enjoyed the author's writing style. The story is told in sparse sentences, without overwrought and superfluous descriptions. In fact, a lot of the story is told through dialogue between the characters and also through Skyler's inner thoughts.
I liked this passage from the story:
“There’s something about you, I don’t know how to explain it but it’s a feeling I got yesterday when I first saw you… in my office and right now this moment. I don’t know about you but I think we should get to know each other and maybe see if we have something here.”
Bad Romance is intriguing because it does not feel like a romance in the conventional sense. The relationship between Li and Skyler is purely physical from the start, in fact this is what they agreed to. But Skyler seems to want more than the physical, she seems to long for it.
I enjoyed Bad Romance and I think the author has laid the groundwork for a promising series.
This is such a delicious read! I finished the book in one reading, and although it is a short one, the story is engrossing from the first scene. Skyler joins L&A law firm and meets Sullivan Forest, a mysterious hot guy and from their first meeting, a kind of sexual tension develops between the two. Later in the evening, while Skyler is enjoying drink with her friend, she again sees Sullivan, who tries to hit on her. Skyler, although attracted to Sullivan, doesn’t want more than just a sexual hook up. Same is the case with Sullivan (Li). As it turns out, Sky starts to develop confused feelings for Li, though she keeps convincing her heart that it is a bad idea. Skyler, the main character,is hot, smart and sexy but sweet and simple at the same time. She had a couple of bad relations in past and doesn’t gets along well with her parents. So she moves out to have an independent life. The characters are rich and stylish, and as a reader, I ‘m already looking forward to where this BAD ROMANCE, leads Skyler. This short story solidly lays foundation of an addictive series.
Oh! And the love making scenes are so hot and tasty, that you might not care for the plot.
This book was a quick read. Skylar and Sullivan start a physical relationship with neither of them wanting an emotional relationship. But as these things go, Skylar realises she is developing feelings for Sullivan. Add a revelation from his past and things turn sour.
The sex was HOT and if I had to rate on that alone my rating would be higher but unfortunately I can’t do that. Can I?
Sullivan is an intriguing character as you don’t get to know much about him. And who doesn’t like a bit of mystery right?
So why the 3 star? The story didn’t grab me. I wanted a little more. Now it may be completely unfair of me to give the 3 star when I can’t tell you exactly why I’m doing it. The only way I can explain it is to say I wanted more.
In saying that, I will still probably pick up a copy of book 2. Maybe it will give me what I was missing from book 1?
This is the second erotic romance novel I've read. The first, which I found awful, was 'Fifty Shades'. 'Bad Romance' also has scenes of erotic love, but the author wrote it very well. She did not repeat herself nor did she use expressions that didn't make sense. There is nothing here to annoy the reader. Although 'Bad Romance is very short, the reader felt that the fleeting affair had some closure. I'd like to read more by Stefany Rattles. Sullivan and Skyler agree to have only a physical connection, but their intricate feelings soon take over.
As a prequel it's excellent. I can't wait to read the novel.
I like reading erotica so let me say that straight off this book did not disappoint. The sex scenes are well written, hot and compelling. The story line has an undertone of intrigue. The dynamic between seductive Sullivan, the male in the office, and Skylar, the new appointee, weaves this way and that. What exactly is Sullivan hiding? Why is he so elusive? What's been going on in his life? It is this air of intrigue that made me decide to give the book a four star rating because the steamy romance has a depth missing in many of this genre.
I received a copy of the novella in return for an honest review
Bored on a break at work I opened the .pdf copy of this I received and began reading. It's a novella so I knew that I could probably finish it pretty fast. I was right, this is a quick read, but it's fun.
Let me start out saying this: The sex in this novella is H.O.T
Secondly: I spent the entire time I was reading this humming Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. Which fit the story pretty well.
Thirdly and warning: this novel wound up not quite being my cup of tea so to speak. I like erotica and I like romance novels, but this one does have an Alpha Male taking advantage of a kind of damaged female that I don't always care for. However I did have fun reading it and I recommend you give it a try, especially if you liked 50 Shades of Grey.
Honestly Sullivan (or Li as he is called) isn't MY type of guy, but I know women all over will totally find this character a hot hunk.
I did enjoy how the author made a point to mention protection before the actual sex, in a lot of novels they glance right over the protection part because it's fiction. However in this day an age even in fiction if your characters are having casual sex you should write in a condom or birth control pills. Though the first time they have sex they don't use a condom because they are both clean, no mention of pregnancy, if you have unprotected sex with someone for over a month you're gonna have a pregnancy scare. Though that might have added some extra tension to Li and Sky's relationship.
The MC's parents are really awful to her. So it's understandable she would want a relationship where she can lose control without repercussions. I enjoyed getting the back story about Sky, it explains a lot of her character choices.
Li only wants sex and the MC seems ok with that. Which I like, I don't care for the idea that only men want casual sex or are interested in orgasms. We women like it too! Though, I kind of wish the MC had kept her emotional distance, would have been nice to see Li suffer through realizing he wanted her only to have her turn the tables on him.
There is a scene that is the reason this got 3 stars instead of 4. They are eating and Li get's super jealous that she went to a bar with girlfriends. Because he thinks other men will try and pick her up. When she tells him she would never be with another man after giving Li her word he says,
"No. I don't think you would but that wouldn't stop them." And "You obviously don't know how dangerous it is out there and you and your friends go to a bar, drink and then what? It wouldn't be hard for someone to take advantage of any of you.
That's a tad too rapey for me, especially since Li and Sky first hook up at a bar. Its a very awkward scene where Li is angry with her and way too Alpha Male jealous for my personal tastes.
At the end I was proud that the MC took control and made her own decisions. I can only hope in the following parts that Sky is true to herself and does what is good and right for her. The title of this novel says it all, "Bad Romance" and it is, hopefully Sky gets to be a part of a "Better Romance" later because her character is fun and relate-able.
**I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review.**
This is a short and fun read, and at the end, it really left me wanting to know more about Sky and Li's story. It reminded me a lot of 50 Shades of Grey, very similar vocabulary and character's description, but with way hotter erotic scenes. I really liked the fact that Sky respected herself enough at the end to walk out on the man she was in love with, because he wasn't ready to love her back like she deserved.
Sky's parents are just nasty, however, I would've like to see more of the family's history, why they are this way, why they are so cold with Sky, how she really feels, etc. Maybe in some of the sequels, but as of the moment I feel like I'm missing a big chunk of Sky's life. I even feel like I know Li's life better, and it isn't his P.O.V.
I would definitely like to know what happened with Susie, what did Li do to her besides the cheating, why were his eyes blood shot red when he returned to his office, and why is Susie so messed up after their breakup?
I will definitely keep reading its sequels to understand what happened, and because I really liked their relationship. Unlike 50 Shades, this did not border physical or emotional abuse, just showing a different part of someone's sexual and kinky likes, without taking it to a sadistic extreme, which is nice and refreshing, since now all erotica reads seem to be about BDSM.
I feel like, compared to the ending, the first 3/4 of the story were too slow, dragging things that needed no explanation, therefore avoiding things that did by the end of the book. Also, I feel like the characters were in the process of being developed, but were cut short, but this might get fixed throughout the sequels :)
‘Bad Romance’ is a rather short story, an interesting prequel to a future longer novel. I loved the name of the female character — ‘Skyler’ sounds beautiful and unusual. When she met Sullivan, I thought the concept of their relationship will be exciting but pretty easy — a casual relationship becomes something more. But ‘Bad Romance’ surprised me.
Sullivan was more complicated than I believed at first. I’m still not sure what to think of him. Who does he love? Who he wants to be with? What are his feelings for Sky? We didn’t get answers in prequel. It’ll obviously be covered in second book.
I wanted to see more of main couple’s relationship, I didn’t really feel the emotional connection between them, although I do believe Sky fell in love with Sullivan. I only wish the process of her falling in love had been shown more.
The author uses a lot of details which I love. It makes a book more real to me.
I liked this story, I’m interested in seeing Sky and Sullivan in future. Lots of questions need to be answered.
I received a copy of Bad Romance in return for an honest review. Bad Romance is a fast paced and intriguing read; it surprises with unexpected twists and turns. I found the sex scenes quite exquisitely written, hot and compelling. The strongest point of the hot story might lie in the masterful descriptions of human interactions and in the fact that the author explains Skyler’s sexual behavior by analyzing her damaged relationship with her parents. Basically, it is a story of an Alpha Male taking advantage of an emotionally damaged female. The author made a point to mention protection before the actual sex–I find this educational aspect very important. It is clear that sexual pleasures detached from emotions (“I had never in my life been so satisfied.”) cannot replace happiness. Emptiness in Skyler’s soul remains, because on the other side there is no emotional response (yet?). I'm tempted to find out what happens to Skyler and Li in the future; Bad Romance is a very good set-up for, hopefully, a much larger story.
Skyler Rayne has just started a new job in the hiring department of Lana and Alan's law firm in Arkansas when she meets Sullivan Forest and is instantly attracted to him. Skyler and Sullivan begin a hot steamy relationship with no strings attached. However, it's not long before Skyler develops feelings for Sullivan and becomes more and more involved. The erotic scenes are well written, fully conveying the passion between Skyler and Sullivan. This is a fast paced and intriguing read. An air of mystery surrounds Sullivan. What is the truth about his past and should Skyler trust him? Skyler is an interesting character. Having grown up with strict parents, she now has the confidence to make her own decisions. Will she listen to what her work colleague, Alex, has to say about Sullivan or will she trust her own instincts? This was a difficult book to put down. It ends with a cliffhanger and leaves the reading wanting more.
An office romance between two emotionally unavailable people, who both agree to having just a physical relationship, and that side of things are more than fine (emphasis on the 'fine') Unfortunately, as time goes by, and as these things tend to happen, emotions become involved, or at least they do on one side. Sullivan is completely honest about not being emotionally available, but I found Skyler's agreement to his 'no strings' proposition a little odd as it isn't in her nature and her intention to drink and drive turned me off her. The relationship seems to work until office rumours, and a chance meeting make Skyler think again about just why Sullivan doesn't want any emotional commitment, and nasty things start to hit the fan. There were a few grammar faux pas, particularly in dialogue, but I'm sure they wouldn't be noticed by most people. I'm certainly tempted to find out what happens to this couple, the spectre of an arrange relationship for Skyler was intriguing.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a short quick read that I liked a. Skyler Rayne is smart and pretty and she has decided to stop doing what her family wants her to do. When she meets Sullivan Forest she is instantly attracted to him. The two begin to have hot steamy sex and it's not long before Skyler develops feelings for Sullivan as they become more and more involved. This book was well written with no errors in spelling or grammar. This was my first time reading this author and not my last. This is the first book in a new series to me and I am looking forward to reading the next book because this one left off with a bit of a cliffhanger.
As a short prequel to the romance between Skylar and Li, this is a hot tease. Do no strings attached romances really work? Well, Skylar is about to find out. Sullivan may seem like a catch and yes, there's tremendous sexual chemistry between them and the sex is amazing but then you have to spend time with the guy and get to know their past and their secrets. What are they not telling you? In this case, Skylar finds out secrets or at least one secret from Sullivan's past that she may not be able to deal with and seems straight away to be a deal breaker. Now I'll have to read the next book in the series to find out (I do hope they can work it out, they would make a great couple, sigh).
Bad Romance is a breezy light read. I finished the entire book on my lunch hour. The story moves at a quick pace and can seem abrupt in places, such as Skyler’s interactions with her parents. However, I would assume this is because Bad Romance is a prequel to an upcoming novel that will explore all of the finer details. The relationship between Sky and Li is fleeting. What was to be a physical only relationship turns south when Sullivan’s past is partially revealed and Sky’s true feelings emerge. Overall, Bad Romance is a wonderful set-up for what I believe will be a much larger story.
A fast paced hot read. A little light-hearted fun outside the office turns into a deeper relationship neither Skylar or Sullivan were looking for.
It's a prequel and I wish it went on longer because I was really enjoying the characters and their situation. I'm definitely going to be reading where their story is heading next.
This was a short book but I really enjoyed it. This is about a girl, Skylar, who works with Sullivan and they have a spark. He wants a no string hook up and she agrees until things start to happen. Skylar fall for him but he is still in love with his ex. Can't wait to find out what happens next. Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. Happy reading.
This book is a good introduction in to Skylar. I think this was a good quick read. I liked the romance but I know in my opinion there are never no strings attached. this book was short and sweet. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Two people with emotional baggage with needs who think they can keep deep feelings out of the equation. But they have hot, hot sex. Short, and fire hot. Read this when you won't be interrupted. I recommend it. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
