दो नाक वाले लोग
मैं उन्हें समझा रहा था कि लड़की की शादी में टीमटाम में व्यर्थ खर्च मत करो। पर वे बुजुर्ग कह रहे थे- आप ठीक कहते हैं, मगर रिश्तेदारों में नाक कट जायेगी। नाक उनकी काफ़ी लम्बी थी। मेरा ख्याल है, नाक की हिफाजत सबसे ज़्यादा इसी देश में होती है। और या तो नाक बहुत नर्म होती है या छुरा तेज़ जिससे छोटी-सी बात से भी नाक कट जाती है। छोटे आदमी की नाक बहुत नाजुक होती है। यह छोटा आदमी नाक को छिपाकर क्यों नहीं रखता? कुछ बड़े आदमी, जिनकी हैसियत है, इस्पात की नाक लगवा लेते हैं और चमड़े का रंग चढ़वा लेते हैं। कालाबाज़ार में जेल हो आये हैं। औरत खुले आम दूसरे के साथ 'बॉक्स' में सिनेमा देखती है। लड़की का सार्वजनिक गर्भपात हो चुका है। लोग उस्तरा लिये नाक काटने को घूम रहे हैं। मगर काटें कैसे? नाक तो स्टील की है। चेहरे पर पहले जैसी ही फिट है और शोभा बढ़ा रही है। स्मगलिंग में पकड़े गये हैं। हथकड़ी पड़ी है। बाज़ार में से ले जाये जा रहे हैं। लोग नाक काटने को उत्सुक हैं। पर वे नाक को तिजोरी में रखकर स्मगलिंग करने गये थे। पुलिस को खिला-पिला कर बरी होकर लौटेंगे और नाक फिर पहन लेंगे।

Started his career as a teacher, he later quit it to become a full time writer and started a literature magazine "Vasudha"(it was later closed because of financial difficulties).
He was famous for his blunt and pinching style of writing which included allegorical as well as realist approach. He was funny enough to make you laugh but serious enough to prick your conscience. There would be hardly any dimension of life left which has not appeared in his satires. He received Sahitya Academy Award(biggest literature award in India) for his book "Viklaang Sraddha ka Daur". He has penned down some novels also.

बरसो बाद हिंदी में लिख रही हूँ। कुछ गलतिया ज़रूर हो सकती है। कृपया नज़रअंदाज़ करने की कोशिश करे।
बहुत सालो के बाद हिंदी में कुछ पढ़ा।बहुत अच्छा लगा की हिंदी किताबो की शुरुवात अच्छी हुई, नही तो हिंदी में आगे कुछ पढ़ना मुश्किल होता।
अपनी भाषा मे पढ़ने का माज़ा ही कुछ और है।
श्री हरिशंकर परसाई जी ने उन्नीसो छियानवे में एक तेरह लघु कहानियो का संग्रह लिखा। जिसमे हर कहानी दूसरी कहानी से अच्छी है।
पर जो कहानियां मुझे विशेष अच्छी लगी वो है ,अकाल उत्सव, दो नाक वाले लोग, एक के भीतर दो आदमी, साढे आलू का विरोध, वीणावादिनी के केश, नम्बर दो की आत्मा, वैष्णव की फिसलन।
ये पुस्तक आपने आप मे ही एक नया अनुभव रहा मेरे लिए।
लेखक ने हमारे रोज़ मरहा के अनुभवों को हास्य-व्यंग में प्रसतुत किया है, जो बहुत ही सरहानीय है। जिस-जिस समय मेरे हाथ मे यह किताब थी, उस-उस समय मेरे चेहरे पर मुस्कान। कुछ ऐसी सी काबिलियत है, हरिशंकर परसाई जी की।
किताब का लहैजा, काफी अलग है और किताबों से, पर भाषा एकदम सरल, सटीक और समझने में बिल्कुल आसान। लेखक की पकड़ बहुत मजबूत है भाषा पर।
बहुत अच्छे गुजरे ये एक सौ दस पन्ने परसाई जी के साथ।

It has been years since I read a book in Hindi. I'm so glad this is the one I read.
Otherwise the whole experience would've been spoiled and I don't know I'd have picked any hindi book afterwards.
Reading something in your own language has a very different charm to it.

Do naak wale log by Harishankar Parsai written in 1996, is a collection of thirteen short stories. Each story more interesting than the other.
Though all the stories were my favourite. But the only I absolutely adored were Akal-utsav, Do naak wale log, Ek ke Bhitar Do Aadmi, Saade Aalo ka Vidroh, Veenavadini ka kesh, Number do ki aatma, Vaishnav ki fisalan.
Reading this book was an experience in itself.
The author has taken scenarios from day today life and presented them with a comical perspective.
The whole time I was reading this book, a smile was always there on my face.
The dialect of the book is quite different from any book I've read. The language was simple, understandable, not too much of pure Hindi. I did find a few of English words as well.
Overall a great read.
If you are looking forward to start reading Hindi books. This might be the right choice for you.
