With two failed marriages and a broken soul, Amanda finally faces the demons that have chased her throughout her life in her tell-all, two-part memoir. As a survivor of domestic violence and sexual assault, Amanda bares her soul, addressing all of the normally secret emotions and struggles that come with trauma. In this two-part memoir series, Amanda shares the most intimate moments of her life that had led her to being the successful flight paramedic, mother, and wife she is today.
I think that anyone can write a fiction story but it takes an amazing author to write her own story. For an author to excite readers he/she will have to weave a thread around you and pull you in and make you believe that you are part of the story but to pull you into a story that is true and about their life is more difficult to do. You have to make the story flow and catch the reader at the same time and that is exactly what happened with this story. I loved every minute of this book because I can relate to some of her life's pain and troubles and I love that in a book. From the first word of this book to the last word you will be pulled in for an amazing ride. This story will make you laugh, cry, hate but most importantly love. This is an author that you need to watch out for because she will take the world by storm one page at a time and I will love to be along for the ride.
Initially, I picked up this book because it was written by a flight medic. I have always looked up to flight medics, and have always seen them as untouchable - they swoop in, pick up the worst of the worst patients, and fly off into the sunset. There was no way any of them could have ever experienced bad things. They aren't human like the rest of us! Boy, was I ever wrong. Once I picked this book up, I could not put it down. I laughed with the good times, and sobbed with the bad. There were several points I wanted to throw the book because I was so angry that such awful things had happened to this author. This was an emotional read to be sure, and one I highly recommend it. You will absolutely not be disappointed! Best suited for an adult audience due to content.
This book was given free by the author for an honest review.
An inspiring and remarkable true story of Amanda Petersen. This book follows her brave fight with the demons that have threatened her entire life. This amazing author allows you deep into her thoughts and memories and shows you that no matter what life throws at you, you can fight on.
I loved this book from beginning to end. It made me cry and it made me laugh. You cannot help but feel the pain and anguish that Amanda has suffered, but you also feel the love that she has kept throughout it all. Twisted Sister is book #1 in a two-part story and I am looking forward to reading book #2 to see how Amanda's story ends.
An extremely well deserved 5 stars and I have a feeling that this is one author who has great things to come.
I don't usually read autobiographies but I am glad I read this!
This book is a truly inspirational story of survival, through difficult teenage years and importantly searching to find true acceptance and love not only from other people but for yourself! It is a personal testament of Amanda's life as she experienced it and how she pulled it all together to end up where she is now.
Amanda's story is a real eye opener, dealing with abuse of all kinds and the search to find peace and harmony however she can. Its about taking life in both hands and having the grit and determination to get through any obstacle no matter how broken you feel and how much you want to give up.
It is a hard read in places no doubt because you know it is true accounts of what happened at certain points in her life, I found I had tears in my eyes in places and I was purging good thoughts and willing this book to have a happy ending.
The last three chapters almost killed me, I didn't know what way the book was going to go and knew I was nearing the end!
