This three-book bindup of Tim Shoemaker’s Code of Silence novels takes readers on a series of realistic, nail-biting adventures.
In Code of Silence, friends Cooper, Hiro, and Gordy witness a robbery … but when it appears several cops are behind the crime, they aren’t sure who they can trust. Telling the truth could be deadly. But remaining silent could mean an innocent man’s life.
In Back Before Dark, the three friends find themselves caught in a trap that leads to Gordy’s abduction. As time goes by without any clues or messages from the kidnapper, Cooper takes things into his own hands. But his choices could place him in even greater danger.
Finally, in Below the Surface, what was meant as a peaceful summer vacation turns frightening when Hiro is convinced she witnessed a murder on the lake. Though her instincts are rarely wrong, it appears Hiro may be mistaken this time. Unless the strange accidents happening to Cooper and Gordy are signs of something deeper and more frightening than any of them could imagine.

FANTASTIC series for older teenagers and even adults! Yes, as an adult I really enjoyed this set and you can read my detailed reviews of each book on their individual listings. HOWEVER I would caution parents/guardians that this series is NOT suitable for young children! It is graphic in places and also very scary which could cause nightmares. Yes, this is Christian based but it is not preachy. VERY clean with NO bad language or sex.
Book 1 - Code of Silence "If a fish could learn to keep its mouth shut, it would never get caught."
Meet Gordy, Cooper and Hiro, eighth grade friends. They're at Frank 'n Stein's, a local fast food joint. It's closing time. Hiro wants to go. Not for the first time her intuition kicks in and she has a bad feeling but the boys want to play more of the old arcade game. However, upon listening to Hiro, Cooper is ready to go with her. Where's Frank to let him know? Uh oh! Robbers! Clown and Elvis masks?! Murderers? What follows will have you running with the kids! Is Cooper's idea of the Code of Silence a good one? Who can they trust?
Book 2 - Back Before Dark
As loyal as ever, Cooper is not about to give up on his cousin and friend Gordy. Joined by new friend Lunk, Lunk has never known an earthly father's love nor real friendship. He is constantly amazed by the love and loyalty between the original three friends and also their dads. Suspenseful from the start, three of the friends watch in horror as Gordy finds himself face to face with a taser, loaded into a vehicle and yes, kidnapped! Where is he?
Hiro has an idea that maybe the kidnapper is a sex offender. Is she right? What happens when the boys take it into their heads to investigate one they are suspicious of by planting evidence? BIG lesson learned. The reader gets to "hear" from Gordy during this trial as well as the kidnapper. How will it turn out?
Book 3 - Below the surface
The family and friends are at Lake Geneva for a vacation before school starts up again. The boys have not changed much but Gordy seems more prank oriented than usual. What is up with that? Hiro, the sensible one and only girl who also wants to be a cop, warns them not to carry out the stinky prank they have in mind. She is sure it will backfire on them? Is she right? Is Kryptoski a murderer? Who is the guy in the black truck? When will the boys believe her theories/suspicions? What follows is a life threatening adventure!
I purchased this book in a set. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz
Amazing series that keeps you guessing and excited throughout the entire journey. The writing is amazing and as I read through it began to feel like I was watching a movie because I could picture everything that was going on.
This series is my favorite YA series. If you haven't read them you need to.
These books are terrific. Murder and mystery involving teenagers. Also liked the commentary on the back about overcoming fear and how to be careful. Just remember you are never alone!
