There’s nothing that Angelique Barbetta can’t handle, no illness she can’t recover from, not one item on her outrageous bucket list that she can’t conquer—not even alligator wrestling! But after discovering her fiancé in a less-than-professional position with their perky assistant, even tough-as-nails Angelique needs a break. Her law firm sends her to Red River to work on a case that should be a piece of cake. Until she meets her sexy neighbor Blake Holloway…one of the proprietors who will lose everything if Angelique wins.

On opposite sides of a hostile legal battle—with a pair of Angelique’s silk undies ending up in Blake’s hands—undeniable chemistry swirls between them. Or will he convince her there’s much more at stake than winning—like love?

Angelique is returning to work after beating breast cancer. While she was battling the disease, she catches her fiance and co-worker having sex with her secretary in her office. Her law firm gives her a case that should be an easy win for her to get her back to work and get her out of the office. They send her to Red River and if she wins the case, she could be destroying the whole town. Blake is Red Rivers town doctor. He's hired a lawyer to go up against Angelique to save his town. The more time Angelique spends in Red River, the more she gets to know the people and she has to really decide if she should take a chance and go with her heart, or should she put her career first.

I'm going to start with my small complaints about this book first - it was a little slow at times and Angelique did drive me a bit crazy with her focus on her career. Other than those two small complaints, this book was really good. Angelique is such a strong woman - to overcome cancer, her fiance cheating on her, and her recovery. She struggled with her body image after having lost so much and having a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. Even though the subject matter was a little depressing, this author did a really great job of incorporating humor into this story. The panty-stealing dog was hilarious. Also, this book had some really hot sexy scenes. I loved Blake - he was such a great hero. This was a really good story and I look forward to reading more in this series and more by this author!

After the worst year of her life Angelique Barbetta needs a break. So when her law firm sends her to Red River to handle a case for them she jumps at the opportunity. If there's one thing Angelique knows it's that she's damn good at her job. In the past year she's dealt with breast cancer and a cheating fiancee. This case, piece of cake. That is until she meets Blake Holloway. He's one of the townspeople who stands to lose everything if they lose the case. Too bad the attraction between them is so strong. As Blake tries to show Angelique all that is good about Red River and exactly what her client is trying to take, feelings begin to blossom which leaves Angelique with some big decisions to make.

This was a delightful story that is very well written. It took me a while to really warm up to Angelique but I loved Blake right from the start. It did have parts of the story that seemed to drag a little but nothing too bad. Overall a very good read and I would definitely recommend it.

REVIEW

*May contain spoilers *

This is the second book in this series and I must say it is one I enjoyed very much. This book is very emotional.
Angelique is a tough as nails lawyer and after having caught her ex doing the do with her, assistant she finds herself in a small town in a cabin. Why? Well she has been given the task of taking away businesses from unsuspecting people.
But when things all start to come to light Ang is not sure she can do it.
She falls for none other than her neighbor and the town Doctor Blake. Well they meet because her little dog keeps taking him presents.

This book has just the right amount of sizzle, romance, and suspense. A true romance story and I would recommend this series.

Red River Valley is a fictional community that I want to visit. A follow up to Shelly Alexander's It's In His Heart, Ella and Cooper's story, It's In His Touch brings Coop's attorney Angelique Barbetta to Red River Valley to take over the town as her clients are wanting to take the town's businesses away and make a large development.
Dr. Blake Holloway is one of those business owners set to lose it all.

The chemistry on these to arch enemies is electric. They really can't deny it, although Angelique has such a troubled past with cancer, cheating ex, and job stress, she died her best to push the Dr. away.

A good story has a hook or two that keeps the story going on in your mind long after you've read the book and this story has 2 I will remember for a long time to come. The first being the ladies nickname for the Dr. Tall, dark & hotsome or Dr. TD&H. Loved it. Also, the dog who keeps stealing his owner's panties only to deliver then to the door step of the TD&H Dr.

Loved it.

I loved this hero. (sigh) Blake is strong and sexy and tender. Why aren't more heroes tender? He's such a wonderful guy, and the perfect match for Angelique, who is fierce and wounded. Alexander dared to write a heroine facing a real life challenge with sensitivity and honesty. So many women are like Angelique. i'm glad to find at least one in the pages of this novel. I really liked this story. The dog was a great secondary character who wiggled his way into key elements of the plot. A delight all around.

Loved this 'tough gal with a tender streak' romance. The seismic shift in breast cancer survivor Angelique's priorities made her a wholly believable character even though the plot was a bit contrived and repetitious in spots.

Favorite Quotes:

Like fine cut glass, her onyx eyes shimmered and held his, refusing to let go. A slender, toned arm warmed his palm, and his brain forgot how to form words.

Well, we just want to see her find a nice man without having to use online dating... My friend Edna signed up on one of those senior citizens' sites in Boca Raton, and it didn't end well. They all just wanted her body.

Nona has a date. Want to come along and eavesdrop for entertainment? We sit at a different table, and she tells the guy I'm the maid and you dad's the chauffeur.

My Review:

I adored this opposites-attract love story. Shelly Alexander's It's In His Touch is my favorite type of book. It was deftly written and well paced, with flawed yet endearing characters, clever, and slyly amusing. Initially, Angelique was a typical shark lawyer - aggressive, competitive, detached, and only interested in getting the win and getting out. Angelique has sworn off men after catching her fiancé in the act with her assistant and now calls her own girly parts "The Land Of The Dead." However, as the onion peeled - she became infinitely more interesting as an insecure breast cancer survivor, betrayed fiancé, loving daughter, good friend, dog owner, volunteer, and community member. Blake was a young country doctor who was deeply in debt with student loans but trying to save his town and his new business. They are on opposing sides in a lawsuit, neighbors, and undeniably attracted to each other. The plot was interesting, relevant, and entertaining. The writing was wickedly humorous, insightful, engaging, and deliciously steamy. I am more than eager to see what happens in book three.

Thank you Netgalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review!

It's In His Touch follows the story of Angelique and Blake. Angelique is a bulldog of an attorney and has yet to lose a case. But when she is diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age, it really takes a toll on her. After some time off, she is sent to Red River to work on a real estate case. But she didn't expect to fall for someone on the opposing team. Blake is the town doctor, but he, along with the rest of town, are in danger of losing their businesses. Getting Angelique to trust him was hard, but having her fall in love with him was ever harder. Now Angelique must decide what is more important to her- love or her career.

This book was a pleasant surprise for me. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I truly fell in love with the little town of Red River with it people and all its charm. I loved all of the characters and wouldn't mind reading more about some of the other characters in this book. I absolutely fell in love with Blake. He was the perfect, dreamy male lead for this book. And I loved how unique of a character Angelique was. I thought the story was very well written and I'd love to read more from this author. Overall a wonderful read and I definitely recommend!

It’s In His Touch is by Shelly Alexander. This is a Red River Valley Novel. It is book two in a duo. It is really good and really easy to read.
Angelique Barbetta has come to Red River partly to recover from the desertion of her fiancé and his subsequent marriage to their shared legal assistant while she was recovering from breast cancer. As if that isn’t enough, she is counsel to a group who are trying to buy out the town and build a resort community. She just thought this would be an easy case to finish quickly so she could get back to building her portfolio so she could make partner in her firm. She didn’t plan on interacting with the residents of Red River in any way except as a lawyer. However, through the antics of her dog, she finds herself becoming more and more involved with the town’s residents. Her friendship with Cooper Wells and Blake Holloway’s insistence on provoking her, stand in her way of progressing with the law suit. Can she continue to counsel to the group trying to destroy Red River and put something else in its place? Will her growing attraction to Blake Holloway stand in her way? Can she forget Gabriel’s deceit?

After reading Shelly's first book "It's in his heart", I knew I had to read the second book of hers. Shelly has a way of drawing you into the book so you feel like you are actually in that life! In this crazy, busy world we live in, we all need something to bring us back to the simple life to see how rewarding it can be. This book is set in a small town where people care about each other. The characters in this book are interesting to say the least, and there are a lot of surprises to keep you wondering. Based around two very strong personalities that don't really care for each other, you get the sense that their tender side is something that can't be denied. The sex is tasteful and touching, and though you may try to refuse to love again after you've been cheated on, sometimes... his touch is something you can't refuse!
Great Job Shelly! I can't wait for the next book to be released!

I loved this book. The characters were very realistic and their story was amazing. I enjoy books where the characters are believable, speak in language we all use and the story is one we can all relate to on a personal level. I loved the supporting characters and their families too. The story was interesting and had suspense, emotion, strong messages about health and happiness and good values. The main characters were both independent and successful and strong. It was also fun and funny. Angelique and Blake had incredible chemistry and I reread many of their scenes together. I would strongly recommend this book and I look forward to reading other books by Shelly Alexander.

This is a book that I could not put down, very likable characters that will have you laughing out loud. Angelique, lawyer, breast cancer survivor, and then to catch her fiance cheating. She takes a case in Red River Valley, should be open and shut. That is until she falls in love with the town. Loved, loved Blake, town doctor and neighbor to Angelique. He made her feel like a real woman again. I was swooning for him!!! Angelique's family are a hoot.

This is the first book that I have read by Shelly. I will now go back and read her first book in the series, It's In His Heart. I received this book from netgalley for an honest review.

I won this from a Goodreads giveaway. It was a nice, light contemporary romance with interesting characters. Angelique is a tough as nails lawyer sent to Red River Valley (to work, but it seemed like she spent more time having sex and crossing stuff off her bucket list than she did work on her case). Angelique is also a breast cancer survivor who happens to be deeply ashamed and traumatized by her illness. She falls for her tall, dark, and handsome neighbor Blake, but the romance is doomed from the start.

Angelique is a lawyer. She is just getting over her battle with breast cancer then she finds her fiance cheating on her. Angelique is sent away to take on an easy case. Angelique then meets her new neighbor Blake, who is a doctor. But Blake is one who will lose all if Angelique wins said case. Angelique and Blake are very attracted to each other to top it off.
I love the twists and turns for both Angelique and Blake. The characters were excellent. Story and plot were really good also. I recommend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The heroine, Angelique, and hero, Blake, were well-developed and believable....very easy to relate to and made you want things to work out for them. I really liked that they are both very strong characters. The author strikes a nice balance between romance, comedy and dealing with serious issues. Great story line! I rarely give 5 star ratings to romance novels because they usually follow one of two patterns.. Although this story is similar , it varies from that path because it's so well written and pretty well hides the twists in the tale. Of course it has its happy ever after but getting to that point is both humorous and entertaining. A very enjoyable book and well worth having on your to read shelf .

Wonderful

I really loved Angelique and Blake's story. Here she is a powerful attorney in Red River to close a quick deal for her client. She had a rough year surviving breast cancer and her jerk ex-fiance cheated on her with her assistant. A good case to sink her right in, an easy win, she makes partner at her firm. Then comes Blake, the town doctor.... This is a must read

It’s In His Touch by Shelly Alexander had this NetGalley reviewer firmly in its grasp until a few too factors began to distract me from the storyline. It is never a good thing when you start mentally backtracking to total the number of misunderstandings/coincidences or even worse, when something simply didn’t feel right. It all seemed to start at the first face-to-face meeting between the opposing lawyers.

***Spoiler alert****

For example, I lost count of the number of misunderstandings that occurred due to snippets of conversations being overheard and misinterpreted. Then throw in the too many coincidences and things that simply didn’t make sense: 1.) The town’s hired gun lawyer was the same drunk, sleazy guy who had approached the heroine earlier at a casino. I’m actually not really sure why this mattered. Yes, I know an attempt was made to convince us why the heroine might think this was a conspiracy, but it just didn’t seem to fit. So he was a creepy, slime ball on top of being a bad lawyer and the town couldn’t afford to hire a prestigious law firm. How did the lawyer’s flaws turn out to be the fault of the hero? Answer: It doesn’t. 2.) It is implied Gabriel, the ex, plans to win her back but is trying to destroy her career at the same time. Rather contradictory, don’t you think? 3.) Heroine was surprised and very angry the hero showed up at the first meeting with the town’s lawyer. After all, he not only had a believable explanation, but she knew he was the town’s self-appointed leader to stop the development. Of course, this was eventually going to happen. 4.) Finally, it may seem trivial, but I was really dumbfounded how the heroine stuck around and played volleyball at the town sponsored game when the whole community was ready to tar and feather her. I was expecting her to run for the hills with our handsome hero in hot pursuit to get his girl back. Because, let’s be honest, that HEA ending is so romantic it never gets old.

Let’s not forget, what seemed a little bizarre and predictable. I easily guessed who had the files and made it look like money was stolen from the law firm. Not that it wasn’t a clever twist. I simply expected it. The hero’s accident and the heroine rushing in to save him combined with the condition the ex-fiance found himself at the end seemed bizarre to me. Honestly, I’m still not sure why the accident was thrown in. Regarding the ex, well, looks like he might have had a conscience after all since things apparently really got to him.

Now, my fellow romance book-loving friends, I honestly don’t mean to sound overly harsh. I am not trying to make you steer clear of this one. Only point out the things that felt off. There were several things I really liked. Mainly, the hero, heroine, and her boisterous Italian family. Well, except for Nona, an old as Moses grandma who tries to be flirty and still pick up men. Well, folks, that scenario never seems credible to me. What does work is the chemistry between our feisty, lawyer heroine and the gorgeous, good guy, doctor hero, who any girl would be proud to take home to meet Mama. He teaches the heroine there are still people out there who care more about helping others than making money. Even moreso, he understands the pain and healing she is still undergoing as a breast cancer survivor and makes her feel beautiful again. Also, I really enjoyed the bucket list antics and the “always there for her” heroine’s best friend, Kimberly. Because, after all, we know life is better with a loyal side-kick to share our ups and downs.

Last but not least, the dog. Our family pet is this breed. She is always stealing our socks/underwear and stashing them places. Sometimes blatantly walking away like she is daring us to chase her down to retrieve them. Yeah, I can relate to the nature of the wee beastie here.

So here’s to hoping my review leaves you with enough insight to better decide for yourself whether It’s In His Touch grabs your interest enough to read. It was a mostly enjoyable romantic tale with a breast cancer survivor theme featuring a very likeable hero and heroine.

Summary

Angelique Barbetta, the best of the best lawyers, after a tough battle with breast cancer, goes to Red River valley for an easy case which she is sure to win. Intending to rip the small town apart, she goes to live there for three months as a clean break from her illness and get her back at her game. But, who knew that she would end up next door to Dr. Tall, Dark and Hot-some? A.k.a, Blake Holloway. Sexy, smart, young and extremely caring. Angelique is touched to find acceptance in his eyes, tenderness in his touch and a place in his heart. What happens when she slowly begins to warm up to this beautiful town with it’s lovely, homely people? And falling in love with Dr. Holloway? Can she set aside her personal feelings to help her professional life?

Story-line

A good, simple, heart-warming story. Nothing too extraordinary, but enough to keep you hooked to the book. The ending bit went a bit downhill, because I feel that the fact that everything just sorted out in the end is a bit impractical and far-fetched but yet, I liked the story. Simple and sweet.

Pace and Length

The book is slow-paced, especially the bits where the protagonists think to themselves about all the various problems in their life (the impossibility of their relationship, the complexity of the case). I felt like all this thinking was way too much, like, they keep thinking the same thing again and again and again, and it gets annoying eventually. Length of the book was fine, I finished it in a couple of days, but I feel that all those introspection-al moments could be cut down.

Writing

Good, simple, fluid writing. A tad bit bland in some places, but that’s just in a few parts and overall, the author has managed to write something which will delight readers.

Characters

I just loved the two main characters. They are what kept me hooked to the book, and they carve out a place in your heart right from the beginning. Be it Blake’s empathy, or Angelique’s tough-girl armor, or the love with which Blake breaks down the walls around her heart – the entire journey was beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of their relationship. Well written!

My Rating : 3.5/5 stars

I really enjoyed this. I don't believe its a 5 star for me. Its just not that fantastic fabulous but its close, honest.

Angelique is a complex character. On one hand I dislike her, on another hand I like her a lot but maybe that is sympathy. Shes a breast cancer survivor and in recent times has had a crap time with her fiancee cheating on her with someone from their work. Her big deal is that she carries a gene that is likely to cause breast cancer (well it does cause breast cancer but not in everyone hence the likely) her mum and grandmother are survivors so shes got quite a case. I think from one point I really sympathise with her, my friend has a similar family history in fact shes practically Angelique but she hasn't gone through it (CROSSING MY FINGERS SO I'M NOT JINXING) I've watched her go through her mother having breast cancer for a 2nd time and dealing with the pain of that. So I think from that point of view I really want to like this character. On the other hand shes a bit immature, naive and bratty. Probably because shes still in a tail spin about having her life so pulled apart.

I also think I somewhat understand her because I potentially carry a heart disease gene and the thought of having that passed to my children scares me silly. I was so with her on that part, knowing that you have something like that. One thing that sort of through me is they only mentioned daughters, not sure about that gene myself but breast cancer isn't just for females shockingly. There is actually a scary high amount of males that do get cancer. However, I have no idea what that translates to for the gene.

I like Blake but he sort of confuses me. He whiplashes in his view of her and I thought it was still a bit odd. He also betrays her trust, I know its to make the town like her but that is her secret why betray her? However you could argue that it was quite a sweet gesture as he wants her to be accepted in his town and wants her to stay with him so you gotta fight dirty sometimes.

I like them as a couple and I like the fact that the author tackled this issue. I think it was done quite well.

It’s In His Touch by Shelly Alexander is a fantastic read!

Angelique Barbetta is one tough cookie. She wins court cases, deals with the aftermath of a horrific disease, and even manages to find time to be with her zany, loud Italian family. But her cookie crumbles a bit when she finds out her co-worker-fiancé is cheating with her assistant.

To keep the peace in the firm, Angelique is sent to the small little town of Red River to handle what should be a slam-dunk case. Her client has the power, and plans to turn the quaint little town into a bustling resort. That all the business owners along Main Street would have to shut their doors wasn’t a fun part of the case, but logical thinking convinces her that if she doesn’t do her job, another lawyer gladly would.

Her rational theory gets challenged when she meets the sexy town doctor, Blake Holloway. He does his best to show Angelique how wonderful the little town is and how extraordinary the inhabitants are. With the help of Angelique’s dog, whose habit of bringing Blake tempting scraps of lace from her lingerie drawer, he becomes intrigued by a woman so tough on the outside, but who wears incredibly soft, pretty panties. He wants to know more about the lawyer who is about to ruin his and his family’s lives.

Angelique slowly falls for the town along with its handsome doctor, and begins to question if her plan to be a partner in the firm is really worth giving up what her heart desires.

I enjoyed this book very much. The town, the characters and the great dialogue make me look forward to the next book in the Red River Valley Series!

NOTE: I received a free copy of this through NetGalley.

An enjoyable book, though not any different from other small town romance novels (Susan Mallery’s Fools Gold, Jill Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor). 2.5 stars (rounded to 3 here).

I wished Kimberly was a deeper character- her main purpose was to push Angelique into stupid bucket list items, and to encourage her to get with Blake. I was waiting for a heart to heart about why the bucket list was so important to her, or why Angelique deserved happiness, or just bonding in general, but it never happened.

Oy vey, hells bells and Italian. These seemed to be used so much in such short sections that it was distracting me from the plot. Oy vey seemed to be used way too much in the first half, and hells bells too much in the second half. And too often, Blake would mention that she was Italian. Alright, great, you can just say hair without including the Italian marker.

All that said, I thought that Blake was good for Angelique- he helped her come to terms with her cancer and she seemed to mature throughout the novel. She was probably good for him as well, but nothing’s coming to mind at the moment (an indicator that while the novel might have been fine in the moment, it wasn’t memorable enough to remember it now and/or the relationship wasn’t as symbiotic as it probably should have been). They’re both likeable characters, but again, nothing special.

I liked the first novel in the series enough to read the second (and I will read the third). I finished the book yesterday, but something bothered me all night. There is a claim that the business owners don't have enough money except to hire the possibly worst lawyer in the USA, who can't afford a telephone or a computer, so the lawyer communicates using a library computer. Yet one of the business owners is Coop, married to Ella, a WEALTHY erotic romance novelist. I am supposed to forget she has a LOT of money, is recently married to Coop, yet won't help out the town she supposedly loves? No explanation as to why she can't front the money to hire a decent attorney. And further, as Coop was saved professionally in the previous novel by his high school friend Angelique, why didn't he contact her first for help? I know she was not working at the time the business problems emerged, but again, no indication that Coop tried to enlist her help. I dropped my rating to a 4 from my initial 5.

I quite enjoyed this book when I first read it. I've been meaning to review it for a while now, as I received an ARC from Goodreads Giveaways, but I took too long and then I just forgot, and to the author, I apologize.
It was a really good read for me. I really connected with the story and I enjoyed the ironic moments in the book. And the puppy was a cute touch, I enjoyed that too.
I didn't really like when Angelique was pretty much lying to all the people in the town when she was encouraging and helping them, but in reality she is the lawyer meant to take them all down, and she knows that she will win. That hurts. But it's part of the story and it's what makes it interesting.
All in all, good book. People should read it, minus the steamy bits. :P

I enjoyed this book even though it was a little slow in the beginning, it turned into a page turner. I loved the characters, they were so easy to fall in love with. the story line was well written and flowed really well, even when it was slow.
