I'm USA Today Bestselling author Delancey Stewart. My contemporary romances run the gamut of settings and setups, but they always deliver humor, heart and heat. It's a guarantee.

I write from my home in Denver, CO, where I manage a household full of boys and men. Okay, only one man. The hubs. But two boys. I mean, three if you count the hubs. (You see why I do words and not numbers. I was told there'd be no math in this bio. Someone lied.)

I grew up in California and have had more jobs than anyone on earth (personal trainer, pharmaceutical rep, copywriter, tech writer, marketing director, wine seller, elementary school teacher... I'm not kidding. The list. It goes on.) But the one I love the most is writing, in part because I get to meet people who love books and stories as much as I do! "Keep Calm and Drink a Martini"

----Unknown

Delancey Stewart, an American author, has penned a new book, called, Men and Martinis which is the first book in the Girlfriends of Gotham series, which is about two women finding their way through the big apple and living like they belong here surrounded by hot men and martinis.

Synopsis:

It’s 1998…and New York City just might not be prepared for the Girlfriends of Gotham...

Natalie Pepper knows almost nothing about New York City, except that it’s far, far away from her home in California. When she packs up everything she owns and moves there on a whim, luck is on her side. She stumbles into a promising marketing job in the developing Internet industry and finds herself surrounded by poised and polished men who are nothing like the guys she knew back home.

One guy stands out from the rest… CJ: All-American hunk and genuine good guy. But they work together, and giving in to their mutual attraction could put Natalie’s sparkly new world at risk, so she resolves to look, but not to touch.

Natalie’s new friend Candace Kanie has no such concerns. From the barroom to the boardroom, she’s used to getting exactly what she wants, and her no-crap attitude ensures that nothing gets in her way. But when she meets Damon, the notorious playboy at Natalie’s company, she finds that her take-no-prisoners style might not be as effective in the romantic realm.

Frustrated and often irrational, Candace pushes for what she wants until something’s gotta give. And when it does, she realizes that the one thing she might not do better than anyone else is change.

Ahoy! All the Sex and the City fans, aboard this swanky yet sexy ride through the NYC where you're sure to come across some Sex and the City style cliches, fun, love and friendships, that makes the book quite appealing.

Natalie a California girl plans to make it big in the city of dreams- NYC. and since it's 1998 and the internet boom has just touched the city, she soon lands a job as a marketing director in a software firm, where her co-workers are hot as hell and unfortunately for Natalie, it's not easy for her to mess up her neatly oriented lifestyle by jumping into the pool of single-hot-dudes. But Natalie lived like a fast life, party, free booze, success, shopping, men until she met Candance.

Candance, a rich NYC girl who strangely lands a job in Natalie's firm and that too in a nightclub. Next her mission is to find love and her eyes and heart soon fall for Natalie's one of the hot co-workers who is also known for his playboy mannerism. And since Candance has happily playing with danger, she couldn't see when that danger started threatening her choices and decisions.

The author's writing style is really fun and crisp and she have layered her plots with full of ROFL moments and witty anecdotes. The authors have carefully chosen her words to write this tale which is a mixture of humor and heart-break. The book fell short in the department of melodrama which was too much to handle for me. I mean these women behaved like a teenager when it comes to love, but it comes to making decisions about their career and lifestyle, they suddenly became too wise. Hence, I couldn't much relate to this sudden change of demeanor in these characters.

The prose of the book is good enough to keep anyone engrossed into the story, although the book started with a much slower pace. The author can skillfully craft a non-dramatic-yet-sexy story into an entertaining chick-lit fiction.

The male characters are all swoon-worthy, delicious and incredibly hot. CJ and Damon both are a contrast to their characters. One is a playboy, while the other is an ideal boyfriend material, caring and touchy. One is high-maintenance, while the other is just the opposite. Yet their demeanor increased the glamor of the story.

The female characters are the heroines of their lives and they might give a feel of Carrie and her girl-gang type of charm. Firstly, what I liked the most that these women put their careers a top priority in their lives and then they took care of the heart matters. Their lifestyle will make you envy them. Moreover they developed with a progressive pace and that made me contemplate with these two women.

There is lot of romance and hot passion lingering in the storyline of the book. Especially Candance and Damon's chemistry increase the heat of the book, and the author have compassionately depicted their moments. Unfortunately the book falls short with romance and I wished the there were more scenes between CJ and Natalie.

Overall this is a fun and glamorous book that screams ENTERTAINMENT in capital letters, so if you want to have a good time with a bunch of few independent women living their lives in the Big Apple, then do read this series, since the first book is not enough as it ends with a major cliffhanger, leaving you wanting for more.

Verdict: A perfect read for the chick-lit fans.

Men and Martinis tells the story of many females living in NYC in the late 90’s, but it is more specifically about Natalie, who decides to take a chance and drive cross country from California to New York to spread her wings. It also tells the story of Candice, New York born and raised, and her determination to move forward with her plans of becoming a financier as well as the perfect man.

Of the two, I have to say I liked Natalie better. That is probably because I’m not the kind of ballsy woman that Candace is; I can be in certain situations, but she has absolutely no fear.

The book tells the story of how they are dealing with work, with friends, and with finding love. Natalie especially wants to show her father, who advises that she is making a mistake and will returning home, that she can make it on the other side of the country. She is very determined that she will not give in to her attraction to CJ, who works with her. Even though there is clearly something between the two of them, she fights it. Boy, does she fight it. Personally, I’ve never seen what the big deal about dating a co-worker is so I was shaking Natalie in my head… IDIOT! Grab him! He’s a winner! Further, she is also dealing with Sam, who she does not work with, that she is attracted to…but isn’t sure is for her.

Candace sells herself as the maker of miracles to a new internet company, and not only is determined to get financing the company desperately needs (also needed to keep her job), but after meeting Damon, co-worker of Natalie, determines that he is the epitome of the man she is looking for and that he will become her husband. Usually the stronger one in a relationship (meaning, she usually controls the guy), Candace is a bit at a loss on how to deal with Damon – who will not be controlled. She is used to getting what she wants, when she wants it…and I think that is why I liked Natalie, who is a bit more down to Earth. I hate to say it, but there were times when I was ready for Candace to be put in her place.

I really enjoyed this story. I think it could have been set a few years forward; honestly, I don’t remember getting my first cell phone until 2001 but these ladies are all using them in 1998. Of course, I live in a smaller Southern town and maybe we were several years behind on it. At any rate, the writing is really wonderful, the story moves forward well, and you really want to know what is going to happen with these two ladies as they work, play and love in New York. I don’t know that I think it is so much a romance that it is a great chick-lit book, with some aspects of romance and friendship thrown in. Further, when you want to shake sense into one character, and are looking forward to one being told how the cow eats the cabbage? You know you’ve got a great story.

It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger but there are some things that go unresolved. Perfect ending that doesn’t make you want to pull your hair out, yet does make you want to read the next book in the series to see where life takes them next.

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review*

Men and Martinis was a very good book. It almost had it all; it was fun, well-written, well-edited, fast paced, drama free (ok, there was some minor drama happening, but not the annoying kind) and my personal favorite it was written in first person (to be precise, it was a dual POV book). The only thing that i felt that was missing from the story was the the romantic connection between the characters. I love NA books and i usually don't enjoy reading a book with a lot of sex scenes, but i think that a NA book should include 1-2 detailed sex scenes in order to feel or understand the connection between the characters.

The story takes place in New York (late nineties) and it's about two young women, Candace and Natalie, who are fresh out of college and are trying to land their dream jobs and, therefore, experience the american dream in the Big Apple.

The author has a very clear writing style that immediately draws the reader into the story. The plot is more compelling than most in this genre, and the humor quite entertaining. I am convinced that if you read this book you will want more from this author.
The relationship development between the girlfriends and their chosen boys is riveting and unusual. Candace and Natalie are so very different and yet share so much in common. Candace knows exactly what she wants and does not want anything or anyone to stand in her way. Natalie suspects what she wants but pushes her true feelings away. There is a lot going for the story which keeps the readers interest until the very last page. This is a great holiday read, or suitable for any light reading option on your calendar.

“I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.”

Fresh, Modern, and completely awesome. I love a book that bring out an array of emotions and really allow yourself to connect or even live vicariously through the characters. Lately, i have been reading books about Alpha Males...but this has been a refreshing change because it has strong female characters.
This book was almost nostalgic. I had me thinking about my first's in life.....First job, First major move, etc.

Overall great writing style, clear story line and a great read.

I look forward to more books in this series.

“I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.”

At times I adored this book, other times I had to stop myself from having an angry outburst. Even now after finishing my heart feels heavy and my throat tight like I might cry, but I guess that’s just the work of a good author. A good author is someone who can make you smile or scream at the injustice.

The story itself is not one of sadness, it’s about love and friendship but that doesn’t mean you won’t find a bit of heartbreak in this. I was originally attracted to the book because of the Sex & the City appeal, funny enough there are a few references to the show in this book.

The book starts off remarkably like a Carrie Bradshaw monologue. It the first chapter you are introduced to 1 of the main characters, Natalie Pepper or Pepper for short. She’s just arriving in NYC from her San Fran copyediting job and while scared, she’s excited and seems to love the city as much as her TV counterpart. But other than this, there aren’t many other similarities to the popular show. It’s a book with its own merit and it shows on every page. I couldn’t decide my pros and cons since they all seem to intertwine so I’m just gonna share my notes with you guys :)

I have to say this before I burst. Natalie seriously grow some galhoones and take the bull by the horns and admit your feelings to yourself and CJ and go to him for petes sake. Heaven help me Hannah it doesn’t need to be as hard as you are making it out to be. Stop wanting to please and make daddy see you differently. Stop trying to prove yourself. Just be you and all will be okay you are a wonderful girl. Trust in that. And above all else go to CJ. Although I do see a triangle of emotions here soon. A fight for her. What fun that will be.

Candace as much as you think this it isn’t all about you and what you want. Stop thinking that way. You are a strong and capable girl and see the world as others do as well. it is fun though reading her adventures. Especially girls night out!

This is a fun and I mean fun read. The adventures of these girls and the camaraderie they have is wonderful to see. A up beat and up to date story about women living in the city trying to make a career and carve a niche in life while still trying to find love. Ms. Stewart nails it out of the ballpark with the first book in this series that will surely have you laughing, crying and wanting to smack a few people upside the head at times. A fun light read.

Men and Martinis is a smart, sexy, modern read, with strong female characters. If you enjoy Sex and the City, you'll love this book.

Natalie, Candace and the gang are living and working in New York. If you are looking for a fun and well written story, this is it. It's an easy read, that's quirky and unlike some, never too serious. Natalie and Candace are fantastic leads, they are smart, career driven, independent and strong. These chicks do not need a man to take care of them, unless it's for the O. I enjoyed the story very much, but my favourite scenes in the book took place among all the girls, Lulu, Maggie have a fantastic and wonderfully realistic relationship. I loved the dialogue among the women. These ladies don't tell each other what they want to hear, they tell it like it is. It's refreshing! There are no damsels in distress here! The men, well disliked Damon and Sam from the start, but I'm thinking that was intended. CJ and Gregoire well, hmmmmm... very nice. My only critique here, turn up the heat up a bit. The story, the flow, the character development was all there. I just wanted a bit more in the romance and sexy times area. Great read. Recommend reading.

A great light read
I really enjoyed this book. Most of the books I've been reading lately are all about alpha males and the women that match them. In this story we get to ride along with two strong females who are really just starting out in life, just graduated college, trying to make their dreams come true in the city that never sleeps, the big apple, New York City. This story takes place in the late 90's and kinda screams Sex in the City, which I loved! This is a really fun read that will have you laughing out loud. Natalie is from California, and New York is where she intends to make her dreams come true. She does land the perfect job at hot guy central! Candace is a New Yorker who comes from money, and she is that girl that sees what she wants and goes after it, while Natalie is not so out there. Candace and Natalie end up being best friends and we get to ride along with them and their friends as they work on their career paths, friendships and romances. I wanted more from Natalie and CJ, and hope that we'll have that in the next book. Can't wait to read it. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

“I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.”

Men and Martinis is a light read and a refreshing change from love stories filled with heavy drama (which I totally love too). It’s about two fresh out of college women, Natalie and Candace, and how they struggle with being in a new city while juggling with a new career, men and a group of total opposite friends. You’ll find yourselves looking forward to the many fun adventures as the girls try to take New York City and have some fun, but at the same time being strong, smart, independent, hardworking girls trying to succeed in the internet world. It’s the perfect balance.

The characters evoked a lot of different emotions where sometimes I found myself wanting to slap them (especially Candace) but at the end I loved them all. This is a fun read where if you are a twenty-something woman you’ll start comparing your group of friends with the gang from Men & Martini and beware because you will want to drink martinis with your friends after this.

This was a great book about two girls and their friends and finding their lives after college. They each have a new start in Manhattan and become fast friends, as they navigate relationships, work, and their love lives. I liked both main characters and that the book goes back and forth between each of the girl's POV. They are very different from each other but both are smart, go getters in their own way, without the whininess and annoying banter you sometimes see in NA heroines. I would have liked to see a little more romance and feeling in their relationships with men, though it is definitely hinted at for the next installment with Natalie and CJ. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

I received this book from the author for my honest review.

I liked the fact that this story takes place in the beginning of the dot com era and that it's about friends that get together and discuss their career, life and men. Although this book is mainly about two main characters there are also other supporting characters that add to the story. I love Natalie and the fact that she is the new girl who is starting her life in a completely different city and trying to learn her way. Candace is the no nonsense friend that everyone needs but they are always afraid to say so. Than you have Maggie who is the hopeless romantic, Lulu who is the freak and Catalina. I look forward to reading more about theses ladies and seeing where life will take them

I downloaded this before I boarded my plane from DC to California. This was a perfect read for my plane ride. The characters were so interesting and I completely identified with them as I was a young twenty something working in the .com world. It was so much fun playing adult and being in way over my head! This book gave me such a wonderful sense of nostalgia... I can't wait for #2. I'm a HUGE fan of Delancy's books! I have read them all and anxiously await the next one!!!

I found this book to be refreshing. It's about two women in their 20's that are experiencing life in New York City as recent college graduates. Natalie is excited to experience a new city and life in general. Candace is one of those girls who always tells everyone what they really don't want to hear but needs to hear. It's a great book for any person who is experiencing something new.

I really enjoyed this book. The author does a good job of drawing you into the story. Candace seemed like a girl that you would want as a friend. The relationships set up at the beginning of the story with the three guys keeps the story interesting and I like how the book was from different points of view. I liked this book a lot and read it quickly. I can't wait till the next one!

Cute 90’s read!

3.5 stars! I enjoyed this book, but I spent most of the book feeling like it was a bit aimless and that I didn’t understand what the overarching plot. It was just about hanging out with the characters. Definitely had a sex and the city vibe and it was fun to read a book that takes place in the 90’s and in NYC!! 🗽💗

3 Je t’aime, New York Stars!

While Carrie Bradshaw & Co. were trying to have sex like men, twenty-something year olds were figuring out ways to move on up and get their piece of the pie, one dot com business at a time. Friendships were made and old ones tested.

Natalie Pepper is a Cali girl intent on making it in the concrete jungle. Having moved her life’s belongings (which weren’t exactly extensive) to NYC on the first chance she got might have come across as impulsive, but she’s determined to prove to her father and sister that she has what it takes to succeed. Failure is not an option. Although she immediately finds a job as a marketing director, surviving on Ramen doesn’t quite allow for frugal spending. Adapting to the city that never sleeps isn’t exactly a piece of cake. There’s also the daily torture of working with two gorgeous men, one hot as sin (Damon) and the other with the most amazingly mood-lifting smile (CJ). A girl can get pretty lonely in a big city, especially when your roommate has seemingly made it her mission to have zero contact with you. Thankfully, her new job comes with the perk of a vivid social night life flowing with free booze and eligible men. Too bad the only one that refuses to leave her thoughts is the one she can’t cross the line with for fear of inflicting chaos in her otherwise orderly life.

Candace Kanie has had a privileged upbringing and doesn’t have to worry about the high price of real estate in NYC thanks to dear ol’ mom and dad. Taking up residence in their Manhattan apartment, she’s ready to take on the finance world with the same ambition and determination she tackles life. Not one for waiting for opportunity to come knocking; she crashes a dot com party, befriends Natalie and lands herself a job interview by the end of the night. Once acquiring employment, her next step was fulfilling her romantic life which definitely proved to be more difficult than ever imagined. Upon meeting Damon (Natalie’s hot as sin co-worker), she fell instantly in lust and pseudo-love, convinced that he was her happily-ever-after. Never had a man held such power over her the way that Damon did and although she was a bit disturbed by it, it didn’t deter her plans of pursuing such a perfect male specimen. Surely the undeniable mutual attraction must mean that they are meant to be. Soon enough, a wrench or two are thrown into both Candace’s personal and professional making her question her choices.

Coming from different walks of life, Natalie and Candace along with her friends learn that not everything is as it seems. They encounter and overcome obstacles while learning more about themselves and each other. I was drawn to this book by its SATC-esque appeal but it took me a while to get into it and it sort of fell short. The writing was fun and entertaining but the situations the girls were caught in, especially when it was love related, really tested my patience. They were infuriating at times with the catty drama. I was torn between cheering on one of the characters and slapping some sense into her (poor CJ).The story kind of redeemed itself towards the end. Even though I didn’t fall in love with the book, I am curious to see where the author goes with the series. Men and Martinis is a light, witty read with a pseudo-cliffhanger that will have you pining for what happens next.

**I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review...**

Natalie Pepper is a California girl that makes the move to New York City hoping that it’s just the change she needs in her life to prove herself and to her father, that she can succeed on her own. She lucks out and right away lands a great job but it’s one that she’s in no way qualified for. It’s at work that she meets CJ – a great looking guy that does all the right things for her and expresses his interest in her as well. Except she’s made a rule for herself and she’s determined to stick to it: she will not date anyone she works with.

Candace Kanie is from New York. She knows the city and she knows exactly what she wants from it. And nothing is going to stop her from getting exactly what she wants – not the job, not the guy, not the life. Except... Her job doesn’t just hinge on her determination; a guy doesn’t actually become a boyfriend if he doesn’t want to be a boyfriend, and life, while life is simply more complicated, and nowhere near as 2-dimensional as she’s perceived it.

Fortune lands them at a party together and through sheer luck they become friends.

Then there’s Maggie and Lulu – friends of Candace’s from college, who also quickly become Natalie’s friends too. There’s Damon, Natalie’s co-worker. Sam, the one-night stand turned sort-of boyfriend. Catalina, Maggie’s roommate and friend. Gregoire, the French investor, and so many more people that make up the fun ‘cast’ of characters in this book.

Before reading the book I was imagining it would be something like Sex and the City and in many ways, I wasn’t wrong. You can definitely see the parallels between them though these four ladies (Natalie, Candace, Maggie and Lulu) go about their lives in New York City somewhat differently. I guess I wasn’t really sure whether I’d like the book, I was never really a Sex and the City fan (though I’d kill for some of Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoes) but I did. I liked it a lot, which still sort of surprises me.

As with many books, there are things about Men and Martinis that I didn’t like. For example, a character here or there that I couldn’t really accept or a plot-thread that (still) doesn’t make sense. More than once I found myself irritated by a character in one chapter, only to feel sort of sorry for them in another. Now, normally I would accept that as the normal consequence of characters developing their personalities, or the dichotomy of well developed, if unbalanced, characters – but this wasn’t that, I don’t think. Or maybe I just haven’t seen the actual “end” of the development of the character, as if there’s more to them that just what we’ve seen so far. Which I admit is entirely possible. With the sneak peek at the second book in the series Highballs in the Hamptons I think that could be a possibility but I guess at this point only time will tell.

Do I recommend this book? Absolutely! It’s a fun read, and I did truly enjoy watching as the craziness of these girls lives unfold. Now that I’ve finished drowning myself in Men and Martinis I may just have to make some time to see what happens next when we’re served Highballs in the Hamptons.

'Men and Martinis' is a fun, light and cute chick-lit read that I got through fairly quick because of how well the plot and writing style flowed. A really enjoyable read!

This novel is about two women, Natalie and Candace, who are fresh out of college and have just moved to the big city, New York, to live out their dreams and fantasies. Whilst in New York, their paths cross and become good friends, this book tells the story of them, their friends, their jobs and their men. Basically anything you would want/find in a chick-lit.

Candace and Natalie were two very likable protagonists, they were hard-working and strong, independent women but who knew how to have lots of fun, I think they both really balanced each other out and they made a great friendship duo. I think I liked Natalie a bit more than Candace because at times Candace frustrated me but, again, they balanced each other out.

I felt the romance somewhat lacked in this book and even though I enjoyed all the girls together and the dialogue between them I did miss a bit of the romance. The dual POVs in this book were brilliant, the first POV we got was Natalie's and I started to get a bit anxious as she seemed to be quite dull but as soon as Candace's POV came in, BAM, it got a whole more exciting.

All in all, this is a really great chick-lit novel. It's light, funny and unique with brilliant protagonists!

My Thoughts:

Men and Martinis will take you back to those flawless days with our girls from Sex in the City but without the glorious fashion.
Delancey Stewart's seriously impressed me. It's a beautifully and hilarious well written story that perfectly captured the feeling of friendship, relationship, first love and what we girls think we need in our perfect man.
Men and Martinis is the story of Natalie Pepper & Candace Kanie who happens to met in a business party and since that moment are attached to theirs hips.
Natalie is LA girl with big dreams that comes to NYC to find herself and show she can do it big by herself and with plastic-snake leggings LOL. Candance is the confident woman that always get want she wants and is obsessed to find a husband with all the things on her list.

A well-written story, told from the point of view from two very different protagonists (Candace and Natalie), who in the end, actually have a lot of similarities.

I did find it difficult to relate to Candace through most of the book, but when juxtaposed against Natalie, I think the differences in the two worked well.

The story flows along with lots of fun and humor, but also has a fair amount of character development. This isn't your standard romance story, which I found to be a refreshing change. I also liked how the author created such a descriptive New York City feel to the story, and could imagine myself right there in the thick it.

A great read, and I look forward to the next installment in the series!

received as an ARC for an honest review.

This was the first book from the author that I read. It was a good read. It had kinda of a Sex in the City vibe and I really enjoyed it.
It was told from two characters points of view.

If you are looking for just some girls trying to navigate New York city. One a newbie to the city and one coming home. They have a chance meeting and becoming friends.

The story line flowed really well. Learn how these ladies live their on the go live and the up a and downs of work and relationships was great.

I liked this book. The story line was well thought out and developed. The characters were likeable and realistic. It was a quick read, but one you won't want to put down. I look forward to reading more about these young women in the next book in the series as soon as it comes out.

What did I just read.

I love the writing style of this author, and it kept me reading even after I realized this wasn’t a stand alone with a HEA at the end. This isn’t the type of romance I normally read. While I’m all for strong heroines, I’ve never watched Sex in the City, and I’m not fond of romances where either the hero or heroine sleeps around.
One thing I found really confusing was the point of view. I was never really sure who was the heroine because because the POV kept switching between two women. I guess the heroine was supposed to be Natalie, who’s story continues in the remaining two books.
And while the story kept me reading, I was never really vested in the characters.

Slow start. Liked Natalie, was missing a few pieces going back n fifth between characters. Candace I didn't care much for the way she became a dimwit with Damon. Do not like Lulu... Thinking Catalina did something with Damon as well but coming out in a later book. Picked up speed towards end and now I have to see Natalies story out...

Predictable

This a fun story of four twenty somethings living their dream life in NYC. A good read for those of the same age just starting their careers, dating and carrying on. This is an updated Sex In The City. The story is predictable but can be enjoyed as a summer, Beach read.

It was a book about life in New York for four young professional women. What it was like to have a high pressure job & have parties to go to any night that you want to go! The men you meet and the women who are your friends, that’s questionable! A very fun book which I would recommend you read!

Great book!

Natalie moved from California to New York City to start a career and met some interesting people, including a guy who may be "The One". I love all of Delancy's books. They are very well written with wonderful characters. Check it out!
