The Rookie Club #3

Dark Passage

Rate this book
Cameron Cruz is a trained special ops sniper for the SFPD, dedicated to the pursuit of justice.
Until the man she loves is framed for murder and the rules of justice are turn upside down.
Now, she must trust her heart above her head to save them all.

Special Ops Agent Cameron Cruz is joining her team to shut down a massive human trafficking operation, working out of San Francisco Bay.

Coming back to work after the birth of her son, she is ready. She is strong.

Until she witnesses a colleague shot and killed before her eyes. The death is shocking, but the reality is much, much worse.

The shooter is someone she trusted. Someone she loved. Someone she thought was killed during an undercover assignment—her son’s father, Diego.

Despite what she's seen, Cameron's love for Diego is as alive as he is. But someone is working hard to frame him. Before she will accept his innocence, she has to help him prove it.

Even as she works to clear his name, the evidence against Diego mounts—evidence that he’s guilty of kidnapping and imprisoning the very people he’s sworn to protect and serve, that he’s guilty of betraying their teammates, and the entire police department. Guilty of betraying her.

At the same time, Cameron is fighting to break a sex trafficking ring in her own city. The closer she comes to identifying the traffickers, the closer her investigation brings her to the police department’s front door.

Suddenly, she must question who she can trust. And who is willing to risk it all to send her—and the truth—to the grave.

Fans of T.R. Ragan, Kendra Eliot, David Baldacci and Harlan Coben are going to love Danielle Girard.

These books just get better and better. Each one is about different characters but all of the characters work at the SFPD, Special Ops Section. This one about Cameron Cruz and Diego Ramirez is especially exciting. They are partners at work and they are romantically involved. They have a son but Diego has gone under cover and doesn’t know about his son. The intrigue when he is declared dead but then is found by Cameron not to be dead really gets your heart pumping. All through these books, the author keeps the reader on edge. She has a skill for writing strong characters, many of them women, but still with connections that make them special. I can’t wait to get book 4 and 5. I hope she continues the series.

The webs she weaves! Great mystery writing

So far I've read the first three books. Best to start with the first book, to get to know her characters.
They are all tied together with some really good lady cops, inspectors, forencis, special ops, and the morgue of course.
In this book they all came together to help take down the bad guys. All part of, Rookies club, these hard working women of San Francisco.
All good reads if you like the mystery of solving, the who done it, part.
Love Danielle Girard style. Fast paced, easy to follow.
On to the next book. Enjoy

I found "Dark Passage" more entertaining than #2 in the "Rookie Club" series and easier to follow the plot and characters. There is something about Girard's writing style that I find obtuse, that is, she doesn't tie things up neatly and/or leaves too much for the reader to interpolate. I read for enjoyment and it is frustrating when I have to work too hard to stay in touch with the author's thought stream. In any event, this novel had a strong finish with lots of action, intrigue, and plot twists. I'm not sure, at this point, whether I will continue on to #4 and 5 in the series...

It was getting more and more difficult to tell the good guys from the bad!!!

I loved this book because it was full of mystery, suspense, thrills and murder who-dun-its. Once again I suggest reading this series of 5 books in order, for continuity of story and characters. Recommend this book, and series, to people who like police periodicals and stories. Gave it 5 stars because it was great, beginning to end!!!

Another great book in series. This is all about special ops rookie club member "Cameron". Betrayals and dirty cops throughout including her babies father. Not knowing who to trust but knowing there's girl's being sold into the sex trade, she has to do something about it. She calls on Hailey + other members of the rookie club to help her solve what's going on.

A good book

This author has taken my heart. I love her novels...I have read two, will be looking for more! I love the police procedures that are in these books. This is the story of a new mother, who thinks she is going to raise her baby boy on her own. She could never be so wrong! A really good story!

Girard saved the best in the series for #3! This was a really good read. Cameron was a strong, likable lead character and I was surprised to find I loved Hailey's role in this book two. She actually acted like a real detective with skills. And there was teamwork between several women in 'the rookie club.' The human trafficking storyline was very sad yet engaging.

Series gets better and better

This was the 3rd book in series. Each book details the professional and personal lives of female law enforcers agents. They started as rookies and the books take us through different circumstances and events that shape their relationships. Excellent story lines. Highly recommend!!!

Dark Passage is book number three in the Rookie Club series by Danielle Girard. The Rookie Club is a group of women in law enforcement. Each book focuses on a different member of the book. This one is about Officer Cameron Cruz who is a sharpshooter and member of Special Ops. This is a thriller. Very good, gripping series.

Not One Of Her Best

I enjoy Danielle Girard’s books and always look forward to reading the next one. Unfortunately, Dark Passage was a disappointment. For whatever reason, the characters were less than compelling and the plot too contrived. I won’t stop reading her books because of one little hiccup but I may lower my expectations.

3rd in the Rookie Club series

This addition picks up on Cameron’s life. She is a sharpshooter with special ops when she discovers she is pregnant. The story leads you along her path of loss, betrayal, human trafficking and the horror of not knowing who to trust. Another fast paced book.

Rookie Club book 3. This installment follows Cameron Cruz of the Special Ops/ Sharpshooter team. Her partner is killed during an undercover assignment and now months later evidence is showing his involvement in recent murders and a human trafficking organization. She can not trust her own team and her family is a risk.

Wow what a gripping, book

I have been reading the rookie club books for a week and can't stop. This one had me from the start and was again surprised at who was involved. This particular book was a little more shocking than the rest I guess because of the trafficking. Enjoy the thrilling ride

My first book by this author. Some scenes were too drawn out and too many action scenes not really edge of your seat but seemed forced. The plot became confusing at times due in part from multiple 1st person perspectives. Cameron seems to jump to conclusions that surprised me. Also, this book contains scenes that may benefit the series but wasn’t necessary for this story.

I like this series but there were so many characters in this book, I got lost trying to keep track of them. The rookie club was only tangential in this book, which is ok, but I’d like to see more of them. Sex trafficking is a horrific act but real. I’m glad it’s being addressed even in fiction so people can be more aware.

Might be my favorite of this series so far. I found myself trying to squeeze out some extra time to read to find out how this was all going to turn out. I'm a mood reader 100%, and apparently Danielle Girard is the mood I'm in since this is the 7th book in a row of hers I've read....now on to the next one.

I enjoyed the 1st two books in this series, but I was somewhat disappointed with this one. The characters were confusing, and the story line was a bit farfetched for me. Cameron Cruz is a sharpshooter with the special ops division. This story involves human trafficking and police involvement. I do like that the story includes former rookie club members, but this story seemed a bit contrived

Did he? Will she?

I felt suspicions of the different characters as I am sure the author intended, and had several "an ha" moments, but the love story woven throughout kept the main characters free from any doubt.

What a ride!

I don't know why this is not a television series. I am definitely hooked. You are drawn into this book like part of the families of both Cameron and the rookie club. Moving on to the next book in the series with pleasure.

Emotional rollercoaster

This book has my emotions all over the place. Anger towards those involve in human trafficking, sadness for lives lost, apprehension and pain for relationship trust issues. There is a lot going on in this book. Consider this a good book.

The Rookie Club Series

Cameron witnessed the father of her baby shoot another police officer but it can’t be possible. Diego was dead. They buried him. A story of corruption in the police department. They were trafficking the people they promised to protect and serve.

A little confusing

This is the third book in the Rookie Club and it was interesting, but confusing to read. Some of the action seemed contrived at times and the narrative seemed to jump around at times. Good book, but not great.

I really enjoyed this one, probably the best one so far. Every page had me wondering what next or who is so skillful to have this operation going the way it was going. I wasn't expecting it to be who it was.
