Do you need a book about Black Canadian history? My name is LTtheMonk, and I think you need to learn something new. Something you weren't taught in school, stories of unsung Black Canadian heroes, forgotten communities, and why the Klan got so big in Canada. You'll be amazed you didn't know these stories before, why Martin Luther King Jr. & Malcolm X have some pretty deep ties to Ontario & Quebec, why the first hockey league in the world started in Nova Scotia, and why Canadians across the country can't let go of the Confederate flag. With this book all these stories will be yours, and maybe you can even share them with that colleague who didn't know slavery existed in Canada, or the friend who thought racism only occurred below the border. Enjoy reading, and support the mission to educate Canadians on Black history!
LTtheMonk is an artist, content creator and speaker originally from London, UK, who has called Canada home since 2017. On social media his videos explore the often hidden stories of Black Canadian history, educating the public on topics they weren’t taught in school through entertaining street interviews, and one-on-one deep dives.
LT brings history into the modern day with cultural conversations that look at how we can use the past to understand ourselves today, shown through a 2025 collaboration with CBC, in which he travelled the streets of Toronto and Los Angeles to ask participants what Americans and people globally can learn about the rich culture of the Black Canadian population.
As an Arts Educator with the Art Gallery Of Hamilton, from 2020-2025 LT led workshops with students between the ages of 8-18 in over 50 schools in the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board, Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board, Northern Ontario, and in the provinces of Newfoundland, Alberta & Manitoba. And to begin 2026 LT hosted the Canadian Union Of Public Employees Toronto Local 79’s Black History Month Celebration, the anti-racism Stay Sensitized Conference in Ajax, and has conducted workshops at multiple schools in the Greater Toronto Area.

Disclaimer - I’m a close friend of the author and I engineered the audiobook!
LT the Monk has crafted a wonderful book that I absolutely believe should be taught in schools in the north. The prose is witty, clever and fun with lots of comparisons and analogies to modern day pop culture all while simultaneously being extremely informative about our very cruel coming-of-country development. I was especially shocked at the story surrounding the KKK chapter in Hamilton and the Klan's persistence at preventing an Oakville marriage between two lovers.
Brilliant work especially for a new author! Very excited for any future writings of LT's
I enjoyed this book very much. I am born and raised in Canada and so much of this history has never been told to me in school or through conversation. So much information gets lost because unfortunately it is designed thy way. I will recommend this book as much as possible and I hope it’s eventually recommended in classes.
Thank you so much for all your research and artistic delivery.
