BEST. VAGABOND. VOLUME. EVER. MY BOYS. THAT CHEMISTRY. Since WHEN does Sasaki Kojiro give grannies piggyback rides and playfully pinches people’s cheeks??? 😩 I’m not talking about The granny, although she makes an appearance here as well, for one reason only: to witness her ‘mortal enemy’ getting killed. No one is surprised. Otsu and the monk are there too, btw! WHEN did Musashi get so wise and self aware? WHY WAS THAT PLAY FIGHT INVOLVING TWIGS AND A SNOWMAN SO CUTE??? I SWEAR, if either of them diES—-no, I can’t. All I want right now is for Musashi and Kojiro to become BFFs and be GOATs together.
The duel begins, and all the buildup is about to be paid off - yet I find that the highlight of this volume was the meeting, at last, between Musashi and Kojiro.
I mean, they did kind of meet once years ago, but I doubt either one would remember.
The story crawls as it approaches the duel between Musashi and Densichiro. It allow for some insightful moments for both Musashi and Kojiro. Now, that is a fight worth looking forward to.
Lol, I'm so sorry, I freaking laughed when Takezo advanced without holding a sword! The freaked-out face of Den was so hilarious I could die—and then I realized it was no laughing matter. It was a change in Takezo's character. You don’t need a sword to fight, or rather, a sword does not make oneself a samurai; it is enlightenment within. And Takezo finally achieved that lightness when back then, a sword is a cross for him to bear. He's become one with everything, and that's what this volume's all about. A chance encounter with Kojiro at the old man's manor made Takezo realize what he's been lacking ever since until he put everything in place. This is one hell of a volume.
By the way, that encounter with Kojiro, them playing symbolically on a snowy ground slashing a snowman is everything I could ask for! I mean, they aren’t enemies (fictionally, Vagabond-ly) and they aren’t friends—but that scene was freaking wholesome all I could do is smile and cry.
“I don't need a teacher. I'll open my eyes up to everything on this mountain. My ears to every sound. My nose. My skin. I'll become one with the mountain. My soul will become one with the mountain.”
The long awaited battle with denshiro is looming , but before that Musashi has to come back to his roots and learn the ways to be one with his surroundings , he can do so with the help of his nemesis Kojiro
It was filled with anticipation and neat art work with some awesome throwback moments , it was everything i have come to love of this series
lol, adorable cutie-patooties frolicking in the snow xD
Matahachi's pathetic ass is finally getting properly whopped, and yet it doesn't bring much relief or Schadenfreude. Is there a Matahachi redemption arc coming next, following his current ordeal? Honestly, I hope not, it wouldn't be particularly interesting.
The whole "reconnecting with your inner child" thing was imo a bit too therapy-coded, if you know what I mean. It's like transposing a concept from the field of psychology straight into a basic literary representation. It's made a little too obvious what kind of therapeutic practice was an inspiration for those chapters. Especially when Musashi apologised to his younger self - it sounds like exactly something that a therapist could recommend you to do. Even though it's all represented in the manga quite nicely, it's a bit boring when literature becomes a therapy session.
Or maybe I'm bitching too much, I still enjoyed this volume a lot.

Vagabond at some of its best, and the fight didn't get as easily resolved as one had thought from the very beginning. The unbalance is still there, but it's the layers both fighters have acquired that somehow resonate through their attacks that stand out here. And of course, finally Kojiro and Mushashi meet and it couldn't have been a better encounter. Better than that dumb cameo Musashi had in one of the previous volumes (what happened to Kojiro's pals after the fight, while we're at it? Are they gone for good? That's good to me, but an incredible waste if that's the case.)
Anyway, yeah, one of my favourite ones so far. The hype for what comes next is unreal.

Musashi and Kojiro finally meat as they play in the snow! It's great to see them interact and get a chance to meet outside of a duel, especially for Musashi's benefit as he clearly has something to learn here. But then we get the start of the Denshichiro match and it's pretty hilarious, I'm excited to see how this actually plays out.
That official meeting between Musashi and Kojiro was 👌👌👌 uff. It's so beautiful how the mangaka manages to convey so much feeling with such little words. Musashi and Kojiro don't talk but communicate through swordplay. Can't wait for the moment they duel each other. Its gonna give me goosebumps.
The battle between Takezo and Denshiciro starts . I hope Takezo will kill him with a Kojiro’s movement against the snow balls . The story is going so fast , I have all the volumes and in the last days I have read a lot . Hope after this arc there will be a more introspective arc
