Kira is shocked when Alex shows up on her doorstep after he’s been missing for six years. She’s thankful her stepbrother is alive, but with his arrival her entire life changes in a matter of hours. Alex confesses he isn’t exactly human, he’s part of a royal alien family, and he’s spent his missing years on his home world completing his final growth cycles and learning about his people.

At over seven feet tall and with muscles like a gladiator, Prince Alex looks like a deadly weapon. But she soon realizes he’s still the same Alex she’s always secretly loved, and when he confesses his feelings for her it seems too good to be true. Then his royal highness drops the ultimate bombshell: his Reestrian mating urge is almost upon him and it’s her he aches to claim, but they must leave for Reestria soon.

Problems arise when the American president announces the existence of Alex’s species months before schedule, and in the mass panic all Reestrians must evacuate Earth until humans calm the freak down. Alex arrives on his home world with Kira, and it’s all he can do to keep from ripping her clothes off before they reach the privacy of his chambers. But then she goes missing. With the full force of his mating urge upon him, all will be lost if he doesn’t find Kira soon and claim the feisty little human as his.

Kira's life has taken a drastic turn starting with her step brother disappearing in Afghanistan, then her parents dying in a car accident, her loosing her business and it's all come to be too much when she is about to loose the cabin they all spent time in while she grew up. She knows she should have gotten rid of it but it was the only thing left from the three people who she loved. Going to the cabin Kira resigned herself to letting it go only to get a call that her debt has been paid off. Having no clue who did this Kira decides to call it a night. Alex didn't want to leave but had no choice when his real family called him home. The long six years he has been gone have been hard especially since he left Kira his stepsister who he somehow fell in love with.

When it is time to mate Alex knows he will go crazy from the mating fever before he claims anyone but Kira. But Alex knows he has a lot of explaining. When Kira see's him she is sure it has all been a dream. Kira always loved Alex and she knows her feelings ran deeper than siblings. When the truth is reveled Kira must decide if she will accept Alex or have him walk away for good.

I'm a sucker for an alien romance so I gave this one a try, it wasn't bad but I would have liked more time to feel their connection. This books doesn't linger on the step sibling issue and it was almost non-existent for me, this was more of a PR. I loved how possessive Alex was over Kira, he always was and she was on his mind the entire time he was gone (well almost). He was willing to literally go crazy if she didn't accept him instead of be with anyone else. For a short story this wasn't rushed and we get a good glimpse into the alien race and what happened to Alex his six years away. My complaint which I really didn't like or think fit was **SMALL SPOILER** Alex has always wanted Kira, would freak if she dated, pulled her out of a car when she kissed one guy, didn't date himself only wanted her, was willing to go crazy if he couldn't be with her, and had to be locked up once so he wouldn't leave his planet to go to her before he was allowed, BUT when his brother had a beautiful (his words while he thought of her when he was with Kira) prostitute come over he slept with her. WHAT that was stupid and I didn't get it, it didn't make sense after ALL that and it didn't fit, and as crazies it sounds turned me off big time because I just didn't get it. **ENS SPOILER**Having said all that this isn't dwelled on and is a very small part of the book but none the less it's there. Overall I nice short paranormal romance with a step sibling twists.

Way too close to incest for my tastes

I hate leaving a bad review without an explanation so here it is in the simplest of terms.... this story skirts the line of incest a bit too close for me. Take one switched at birth alien step brother, add one under age teenage step sister, toss in a few strange lines like 'you were jailbait so I had to join the military to keep myself from touching you.' Then give it a bazaar alien called home... now he's rich... taller.. more muscular.... better endowed (of course). oh yes... and royalty as well (of COURSE he is). Next mince a few 'd don't go back to earth and get my step sister to agree to marry me I will die' lines and add a dash of little kid sister waited for step brother to return... so of COURSE she's still a virgin....naturally. What does this all get you?? A recipe for a novella disaster.

With both her parents dead and deep in debt, Kira can't believe her eyes when the step brother she thought she'd lost Afghanistan six years prior, shows up on her doorstep. Not only has he grown to a height og seven feet, he also claims to be an alien. An alien experiencing a mating urge, and she's his chosen mate.

Sheesh. Talk about unbeliveable story with a vapid fairytale ending. There's a chaste maiden in distress, and if you've read any old folk tales, you can guess what HE turns out to be. This is a fairytale set in outer space, but it's not exactly Hans Christian Andersen quality. 2.5 ☆

Not recommended for Jeanny!

Review

Step Alien is a really quick read (43 pages) full of romance. It has a lot of potential, a shame it wasn't longer.

Well ... if my long lost-presumed dead step-brother showed up on my doorstep claiming to love me and needing to mate with me immediately and then whisk me off to alien lands I don't know if I'd be as agreeable. But that wouldn't make for a decent short story now would it? :)

Nice, sweet and short.

A fantastic read with great characters. Although a short read I'm looking forward to the next book. 5.

Kira is all alone in the world, losing her parents to a drunk driver and her stepbrother to Afghanistan. She was now losing the family cabin, she dreamed of Alex so much, that when he showed up at the door, she passed out. Alex is really an alien from a planet that had an agreement with Earth, where babies from both planets would be exchanged in secret and raised. Alex came back after a planet required growth spurt that made him over 7' tall and massive. He has come back to take Kira as his mate and if she refuses he will get the madness. The closer he is to her, the faster the mating heat hits. He just has to convince her to accept him.

Kira was just about to put the cabin where she had lovely memories of her family to include her step brother up for sale. She couldn't afford it anymore. If only her step brother hadn't gone missing, maybe she wouldn't have to take this drastic measure. But Alex was more than a step brother, she was in love with him. Afterall, they weren't blood. Then there's a knock on her door and it's Alex. He came back for her and had quite a story. Lots of action and steamy romance before they get their happily ever after.

Kira lives in a remote cabin that has many memories for her. She is concerned that she will have to sell it in order to meet property taxes etc. Suddenly, she is informed by a lawyer that all her debts have been covered by a mysterious benefactor, as well as giving her money to live on in the future. When this benefactor turns up on her doorstep, she gets quite a shock. It is around this that a very good story is built.

Step Alien..

Only one thing wrong with this book..it needs to be LONGER!!! Absolutely loved it. Most highly recommend that you get it and read. I just knew from the beginning that he'd come back for her....just not the way it happened. Thoroughly pleasantly surprised. Guess I have a new author to follow. Yea!!!

Really? The title says it all - one too many genres in the same tale made this just a bit of a silly story. Kira and Alex would have been better off as human meets alien as opposed to step siblings. The whole baby swap thing is just preposterous. I do like the Reestrian Alien/Mate storyline though so we'll see what happens in the others. This one? Short, sweet and a little predictable.

Pedestrian Mates: Alex and Kira

A Short and quick read but it packs a punch! Alex returns to earth 🌎 for his mate. Kira has been waiting six long years believing she is alone in the world. When Alex returns to earth for her, their reunion is something else to behold.

Short, but Sweet

Usually short stories leave me feeling like I missed a chunk. This one wasn't like that at all. Although fast paced, it seemed complete. Did I want more? Of couse, but I'm happy with what I got. Short, but sweet.😊

Very interesting, short read

Kira seemed lost at first but Alex definitely was the cure for that. I really liked the step-brother/alien aspect of this story. I thought that the back story was interesting and lead into a lot that happened after. Overall a fun, sexy alien story.

What an awesome first book.

A very short story. But very enjoyable i hope the next one is longer. But the first book is about an alien Prince who is taking to earth in an exchange program.

Short and felt incomplete

Overall the story felt incomplete. The time on the spaceship is completely skipped over and the story ends before she even learns anything about the planet or his family. The author even glosses over 6 days of sex.

I would not say this is romance... there is absolutely no time for romance to build.
However, the worst part of the story was its attempt at conflict. Why? it was not necessary.

There you go... a review as short as the story itself.

Good story, quick read. Imagine finding out the person you love is really an alien? That’s what happened to Kira. This story navigates the start of their relationship. Excited for the next storyline.

I was all set to give this a great review when I was about 80 percent through and then I found a big no no and the book was just ruined for me.

While the story isn't anything special it was sweet and I appreciate a sweet, undramatic story. Why, oh why do authors think though that a guy sleeping with other women while the heroine remains chaste is sexy or romantic?

Newsflash. IT'S NOT.

I'm so sick of the cheating trend going on in these books these days. And while this isn't outright cheating since they hadn't confirmed being in any relationship, how can the hero profess to have always loved the heroine and then sleep with a prostitute while he's away from her?

What love! What romance! It's so wonderful. Not. More like out of sight out of mind. Romance is supposed to fill the void real people don't. Instead this book shows that even an alien is ruled by his body and there is no love, honor or loyalty.

Kudos. Great idea to spoil my day. You people have to start putting warnings on your books when there is infidelity. It's not fair to have someone pay and then get the dirty surprise. I'm so sick of this bull. Reading a good book and then bam. My hours are down the drain and I want to fling my e reader out the window.

Needless to say I won't be bothering with the rest of the 'series.' Since honor and loyalty this is NOT about folks.

Interesting little read. Love to read about sci fi romance and this was cute and sweet. Put together fairly well. I think it moved fairly quickly and although I would have liked more details but for a short novella it was a good quick read. I enjoyed reading it. Kira has been through some crap. Lost her family pretty much. Dealt with it all alone since she thought her step brother Alex died in Afghanistan a few years back. 6 years I believe. Then he comes back and hello he's a huge alien. LOL. They've loved each other for a long time and he kept his distance because she was too young at the time. She accepted things fairly quickly but was still apprehensive and made it more realistic. I liked both characters and secondary were interesting. We only met Joseph his brother really. Can't wait to read his story.

Very good

This is the first story I have read by Sue Mercury, and while I g r generally do not read books about aliens, the synopsis for this one really caught my attention. I really loved the story, and it was so well-written I was immediately drawn in. The whole concept of a secret alliance between Reestria and Earth, as well as the baby swaps, was unique. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

Alex and Kira. Super short story. Not much to it but it was good for reading in between longer books. Kira is feeling pretty low. Her parents and step brother, Alex, have passed on, her business failed due to bad times, and she knows she has to sell the family cabin to pay her debt. Life sucks. But... Alex isn't dead, he's an alien and he's coming back for her after 6 long years...
Fun easy predictable treat.

Wish it was just a little bit longer

I enjoyed the storyline just as it was getting into characters and their lives it was HEA an the end. Hopefully it will be additional stories to flesh out the current storyline with its initial characters and bringing more additional characters in.
