A warm contemporary romance.

When Caitlyn McCabe leaves her cheating husband, she has nowhere to call home. But chance, circumstance, and a touch of magic bring her to Summerhill, a small town in western New York. There she meets Ryan Ramsay, a handsome army vet who returned from Iraq with physical and emotional wounds. The connection she feels with him is instant, encouraging her to believe once more in the possibility of love. But while Caitlyn’s fresh start has all the makings of a wonderful new beginning, an unknown enemy starts harassing her, threatening not just her happiness, but her very existence.

In many ways, Ryan Ramsay has a full life—his job on the police force gives him meaning and he loves his large, boisterous Scottish-American family. But his experiences in the war left an indelible mark on him, and he believes he will never meet a woman who can accept him, scars and all. With Caitlyn McCabe, he dares to hope otherwise. There’s no pity in her eyes when she looks at him, and her loving heart promises to help heal his own. So when a threat to her life arises, he is desperate to do everything in his power to protect her.

Can Caitlyn and Ryan find happiness and healing together in Summerhill, or will the danger looming over Caitlyn destroy them both?

I loved how I was slowly drawn into the story and became invested in the characters. I loved the big loving family and romance as well as how the conflicts are resolved. Great plot twists and lots going on to pull you in and keep your interest. Characters are likable and relatable.

Not terrible, I enjoyed reading it and I thought it was very good. I wanted to find out more about the main characters and family members involved. It definitely kept my interest and I couldn’t wait to see how it ended. I’m looking forward to reading the next book knowing they will be in it.

First, I hate books about heroes that lose a leg. I should never have gotten this one. In my defense, the description was too vague.

Second, I despise huge families. Twelve siblings? I can't keep them straight. That's typically a Catherine Anderson thing, and it's tedious as heck.

Third... a 11th century guardian angel that makes pop-up appearances throughout the book, and is a spirit, but can eat tangible food and 'pish' tangible waste? Um...

Fourth, SO MUCH EXTREME DRAMA. The sabotaging at work and the sabotaging for money and the sabotaging of romance and the self-sabotaging of the H... gah, there were so many issues going on at the same time, I got to skimming to get through it all.

Fifth, I'm not sure they'd let brothers serve on the same squad in the military. I'm also not sure they'd let someone with frequent 'episodes' of PSTD that triggers as easily as Ryan be a police officer on the street - it's too dangerous to civilians in high-stress situations to have a loaded cannon out there in the action.

Sixth, it's such a cheat when everything is so easy because all of the characters are multi-millionaires. Young 23 year old girl running from her husband to... nowhere? No problem. She can just buy a million dollar cottage on a lake in NY - and pay WITH CASH. Makes for easy writing, but shoddy writing.

The timing also felt wrong. For everything. She didn't feel 23 years old. She's an 'experienced' ER nurse in Pennsylvania, but she's only been one for two years, and she married her husband in college, but they've only been married two years... it just didn't ring true, for me. Too much in too little time.

I didn't care for it.

One Summerhill Day by Keira Montclair
Summerhill Series Book One
Police Officer Ryan J. Ramsay III hasn't been the same since returning home from Iraq. He didn't come home whole...physically or emotionally. The few women he dated once he was home—couldn't handle who he now was. When he finds himself attracted to a woman he helped...he doesn't have high hopes of her seeing who he really is either.

Caitlyn McCabe's life just crashed. Her husband—very soon ex-husband—wasn't the man she thought he was. She had lost her dad and mom when she was younger, and now she finds her last living relative has passed. After more incidents...it finally feels like things are going to get better. But maybe not.

Loved the story and that it intertwined some characters from her Clan Grant series into it. Ryan and Caitlyn both have ghosts from the past to conquer...but the ghosts are fighting back.

Big Scottish Family, Military Vets, Nurses & Finger Lakes, What's Not to Love?

I've had this book on my Kindle bookshelf for quite some time and glad I am finally starting this series. Not sure why I enjoy storylines with a Scottish influence but there it is. I was especially happy to see some of my favorite characters mentioned from the Highlander series especially dear Lucky Loki in his youth. One of the reasons I first decided to add this book to my bookshelf was because of the location mentioned, the Finger Lakes region of Western New York State. Being from Northern NY I'm familiar with the area and know just how beautiful it is there. Keira doesn't disappoint with any of her character development. There's a bit of suspense to get your mind whirling and of course lots of warm fuzzy stuff too. I'm going to really like this series.

I have read some of this author's historical novels but this is the first contemporary of hers I have read and I loved it.
The grant and Ramsey family have lots of possibilities for future book. I loved both the hero and heroine in this one it was a really great story with lots of twists and turns.
Without giving away anything about the plot the bad guy wasn't the obvious one and I liked all the twists.
A very enjoyable read and I loved Loki just as much as when we met him in the historical books, I liked that element of the story it made it different.
Will definitely read the next one in the series a really great start to a promising series.

Really liked this one. First contemporary i have read from Keira

I really liked the characters you introduced in this book. The situation was believable but I was confused as to where she got her wealth. Was it life insurance money? I don't remember seeing it discussed in the book. Just that she had money and didn't need to work. I liked the Loki section and loved the part with the puppy. Good job can't wait the read the next one.

Great Exciting Love Story

I have enjoyed this book. I believe I have read most of your Highlander books on my iPad. I am a widow of Navy veteran and we lived through a lot and even though he didn’t go to war he was in action on his ships. I believe in guardian angels. Thanks for writing a interesting story.

Love it

I don't usually read contemporary romance but because I loved all the series that Keira Montclair had written about the Grants (because I love historical romance) I thought I would read this one by her. I have gone back and got the other 2 from the Summerhill series. The surprise in the book made it such a fun read. Love Keira Montclairs writing style and imagination.

This book was a great disappointment. All the medieval books were good. This has foul language and takes too long to conclude. Will not read anymore contemporary efforts by this author.

Good clean reading

I love the story, though it was a little more predictable. I am so happy not to read a lot of language or hot sex. I just want a good read. Ryan and Caitlin have a great story.

I have not allowed one book to go unread by this author. There have been a couple that were not to my taste but as you see I am still reading. LOL. This book is a contemporary and I have read that the author is a nurse in her life and that has been reflected in all her books. She has had healers in her previous books and I love the highland healers written in her books but now we actually get an RN in this read. Caitlyn McCabe is still a Dalton in the beginning of the book as she has recently filed for divorce from her sleaze ball ex of two years. She walks in while Bruce is being serviced by her supposed best friend. Running from that whole scene she gets caught in an ice storm and runs into our H.

Police Officer Ryan J. Ramsey is ex army and suffers from PTSD. He fought in Iraq and held his best friend as the life left his body. He does not suffer alone because he has his father and 2 brothers and 3 sisters. His mother died from breast cancer but Lorraine remarried his father and brought 6 children of her own so if your counting there are 12 total kids in his family. Talk about a modern day Brady Bunch. Ryan and his brother Jake are both on the force and they are both investigating the attempts on Cait's life.

At first their not sure if she is really in danger but as mysterious attempts and notes are left behind the picture becomes clear. That is not the only problem though. Ryan has not been able to have a real relationship he has survivors guilt and struggles with allowing Caitlyn see his vulnerability. He feels an obligation to his best friend's widow and has more that he keeps hidden. Then there is Caitlyn who is trying to fit in her new job in the ER. I read this book it seemed every chance I got even when company came over and interrupted me I kept thinking back to where I left off in the story. I really enjoy KM's writing. She writes in a way that I just eat up her words.

The only reason it didn't get a five star rating from me was I felt Caitlyn over reacted to the surprise guest leaving Ryan's place and being a bit over dramatic in her actions. I understood she was insecure because of her ex but felt he deserved better. What Ryan had is a real disease so his response seemed perfectly natural but hers seemed forced to escalate the story. It also seemed to me 2 weeks was a bit stretched out to reach a solution. Anyhow, I did like how she got Loki and Growley added into the story. The chocolate chip cookies at the end was cute. There is sex involved in the story but seemed held back IMO. It wasn't bad just needed a bit unleashing. Some may not need that but I like to feel the passion and felt it was too rushed. Overall I liked the story and felt the nasty nurse got off too easily. One does have to wonder if the author had a particular person in mind when she created her. Enjoy!

A wounded warrior, a compassionate nurse, and a ghostly imp!

Ryan Ramsey is a hot cop who seems to have it all. A great job, a huge family, and a body that puts other men to shame. But, he's also a wounded veteran who spent time in Iraq and lost his best friend among other things. Is it any wonder he suffers from PTSD? Will he ever find a woman who can accept him as he is now?
Caitlyn is a compassionate nurse who has just caught her husband of two years cheating with a woman she thought was her best friend. Now she's lost in spirit and looking for a new life away from the emotional pain rolling through her. Is it any wonder that she freaks out when she finds out her only remaining relative has died and no one told her? Oh, and she also seems to have picked up a stalker along the way? What's a woman to do when she's new in town?
Enter one ghostly imp of a guarding angel named Loki Grant and hid bloodhound sidekick Growley who have been sent to look over Caitlyn in a way like no others. It seems like every time something bad happens, Loki is there to let her know it's going to be okay, even in the bleakest of moments.
In this first contemporary novel by Keira Montclair, you see the same style of writing that makes her Highlander series such a hit. Her characters are relatable and the story draws the reader in from the very beginning. I can't wait to read more from this author!

A fitting beginning for a new series

Having read the five Clan Grant novels and having come to appreciate this author's work, I was delighted to read this contemporary romance and especially after discovering that characters from the Highland historical series would make brief appearances. Such a good story and one that brought in themes that many contemporary women must face. Ha ing worked as a nurse many hears ago, I know well the sense of connection which grows out of close working conditions and that working relationships can seem to be closer friendships than they really are. I learned that truth the hard way. I have been in a helping procession for decades and appreciate that human interaction can be very complex. The author addressed some sensitive issues with grace and I think with a sense of honesty as she developed the main characters in this novel. There are moments of joy balanced with grief, pain over loss and that sense of failure we often experience when our best efforts on behalf of our loved ones are inadequate in the face of addiction, massive injury, or misunderstanding. This story deals with all of that. Yet with the charm of an intrepid visitor from the past, the authentic friendship of caring people and the discoveries one's own strengths, the characters in this story remind us of the best individuals can demonstrate even in dire straits. A fantastic read that deserves to be experienced and enjoyed.

The beginning of another series by this wonderful author. This one is set in modern America - not Scotland, or England.

Lovely Caitlyn nearly dies in a car crash on icy roads...the policeman who stays by her while waiting for the ambulance is a hero - home from war and missing half of one leg. He suffers from PTSD. She is a nurse. The story goes along lines you would expect, but there is a twist - that actually comes from this authors' series set in 1200's Scotland...not only are the main characters a great family - but they are the descendants from the two main families in this previous (wonderful!) series.

Danger seems to surround Caitlyn. Romance, too. Work worries and sorrow. There is a lot at play in this book, and the characters come to life and grab your interest. Good thing it's going to be a series!!

For me, One Summerhill Day was a case of a really good story with some delivery and editing issues. The writing was good, not great. It didn't always flow well and the dialogue was extrememly choppy, however, I really liked the H and h for eachother and immediately rooted for them to find their HEA. This is my first book from Keira Montclair, so I understand from other reviews that the 'supernatural' elements are characters from other books. Perhaps if I was invested in the other series I would be happy to see these characters in this manner, but for me it completely didn't work and ended on such a far fetched note that it seriously detracted from the HEA. That being said, I will continue witht this series and look forward to Jake's story.

Great book!

I only read Keira's writing in historical genre before, but this was great! It was quite a rollicking adventure! So many interesting things happening, it was very suspenseful. I also loved the Scot humor and big supportive family. It reminds me of Marie Forces Green Mountain series in that way. It was so interesting it was 2:00 am before I knew it! Just had to finish it. I wish I could put the next one in my KINDLE wishlist so I don't miss it in May, but it's not released for Preorder yet I guess. But you can bet I'll be buying all the kids stories (12) when they come out. Thanks Keira.

Liked some of it, but not all

I liked the premise of the book, just not all of the characters. She sounded like a strong person in the beginning, but didn't face a lot of issues head-on. When she worked, she and the other nurses let an older nurse bully them and the patients. She viewed every man like her ex, a cheat. When she would talk to her hero, she seemed too condescending. Liked the minor characters better.

This is Caitlyn and Ramsays story. But this is in the future, what's funny is Loki makes an appearance, while from his younger days in the highlands. She's running from a cheating husband and as if by magic she ends up in Ramsay's town where he is a police officer. He's afraid his time in the war and his scars will scare women off. Will caitlyn be the one to save him.

Great new series

I have read all of "The Clan Grant" series and now the first Summerhill book. These books are great and remind me of jude Deveraux's Montgomery family because you start in medieval times ago go forward to modern times. But with this one we get to hear from Loki Grant again who was one of my favorites in the first series.

I love stories that have depth of character and happy endings.

Keira Montclair writes great stories of family love, kindness and acceptance. Caitlyn finds herself in a new place that has called to her soul. She finds true friends, family and a home, with a bit of suspense thrown in for good measure.
