Unforgivable is an age-gap, billionaire, boss x secretary, workplace romance. It features found family, grumpy/sunshine, ONS, and open-door spice.
Meghan French is a romance author who loves writing about strong female characters and the swoonworthy, dirty-talking men who love them. A self-professed foodie and yogini, she lives in Arizona with her husband and dog. When she’s not in a writing cave, she spends her time as a school psychologist, hiking, and reading all the romance novels she can get her hands on.
"Unforgivable" by Meghan French is a hot and heavy workplace, forced proximity romance full of spice and an exploration of wants and desires between Sean (MMC) and Fern (FMC). This is a spice-heavy romance, so if you're not interested in that, this book isn't for you. I am very much into that, and the spicy scenes here are well-written and hot as heck. Fern was raised in an uber-religious household and was told that s3x was only for a man's pleasure and/or to procreate, so she has gone through life not knowing what she likes or what she wants. She has had many traumas happen to her throughout her life, but she has finally escaped her upbringing and her family's shackles. Sean is a billionaire, but not *that* kind of billionaire (ehhhhhh). He is a bigwig sports agent who maintains control in any and all things in his life. One night, he has a one-night stand with Fern, but wakes up the next morning in an empty bed. A short while later, unbeknownst to him, Fern was hired on at his company, putting them in close proximity every single day as he is her boss. The chemistry between them is electric whenever they are near each other, but they do not act on their feelings right away.... until they do! When Sean finds out Fern has a s3x bucket list and wants to explore all of those items with him, he goes all in on Fern and his relationship, even if they have to keep it quiet at first. Although this spice is great, I think the best part of this book is watching Fern break out of her shell and come alive when she decides to ask for what she wants and what she wants to try. Watching her shed the skin of her former religious-and-controlling life was refreshing, especially in a world where the proliferation of purity culture is on the rise again. I really enjoyed this aspect of the story and related to it heavily. Every single time I read a $mutty romance novel, I feel like I am helping dismantle purity culture one small step at a time. I liked the dynamic between Sean and Fern. I like how his wants and her wants fit one another, but he was willing to cede a little control to her and for her pleasure. His protective nature towards Fern had me swooning. Also, the moments at the end had me dropping my jaw slightly! I enjoyed this one. If I had one complaint, I'd say it might be a little bit long, but it is mostly well-paced, so it's not too much of an issue. I can't wait to read more books from Meghan French!
Thank you to Meghan French and The Smuthood for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
If you're looking for a romance that brings the heat from the very first chapter, this one absolutely delivers. The spice is intense, frequent, and never lets up, but beneath all that chemistry is a heartfelt story about healing, self-discovery, and learning to embrace who you truly are.
Fern grew up in a sheltered, deeply religious home that left her struggling with guilt and uncertainty surrounding her sexuality. Determined to take control of her own life after moving to New York, she creates a bucket list that leads to one unforgettable night with a stranger. What she never expected was to discover that stranger—Sean—is actually her new boss.
Sean may come across as stoic, demanding, and completely in control, but beneath that polished exterior is a man full of depth. He's confident, protective, patient, and endlessly supportive. Rather than trying to "save" Fern, he encourages her to find her own voice, gives her the space to make her own choices, and makes her feel safe every step of the way. He constantly proves that the biggest green flags are respect, communication, and unwavering support.
What I loved most was watching Fern's transformation. Seeing her regain her confidence, let go of shame, and reclaim her sexuality was empowering and refreshing. Their relationship isn't just about passion—it's about growth. Sean helps Fern embrace what she wants without guilt, while Fern teaches Sean that vulnerability and leaning on someone else can be strengths, not weaknesses.
Despite all the steam, this story never feels like it's only about the romance. It explores boundaries, trust, healing, and two people helping each other become better versions of themselves. There isn't unnecessary drama or over-the-top angst, which made their connection feel even more genuine.
Sean and Fern were such an easy couple to root for. Their chemistry is undeniable, but it's their communication, mutual respect, and emotional support that truly made them stand out. This is an incredibly spicy workplace romance with a one-night-stand-to-boss twist, but underneath all the heat is a sweet, emotional love story about finding freedom, confidence, and a partner who loves you exactly as you are. If you enjoy romances with high spice, meaningful character growth, and a hero who is equal parts commanding and caring, this one is definitely worth picking up.
Unforgivable by Meghan French is an engaging contemporary romance that delivers much more than just a billionaire love story. Beneath the steamy workplace romance is a heartfelt journey of healing, forgiveness, and learning to trust again. Fern is an easy heroine to root for. After spending years living according to everyone else's expectations, watching her embrace independence and rebuild her life was incredibly satisfying. Sean initially comes across as the typical controlling billionaire, but his protective nature and emotional layers gradually make him a compelling hero. Their chemistry is electric from the start, and the workplace tension keeps the story entertaining. The emotional moments surrounding both characters' pasts add depth, making the romance feel earned rather than rushed. I especially enjoyed the found family element and the balance between heartfelt scenes and passionate romance. If you enjoy billionaire romances with workplace tension, age gap dynamics, grumpy sunshine vibes, emotional character growth, and plenty of spice, Unforgivable is definitely worth picking up.
Thank you, Meghan French and The Smuthood for sending me an ARC of Unforgivable. I am voluntarily leaving my review. This book was definitely spicy, so if you are in the mood for a steamy read, then this book is a great recommendation. There are themes of religious trauma and reclaiming your bodily autonomy, which is what initially drew me to this story. I adore books that centre on an FMC who grows in confidence and sheds the shame she has been forced to wear her entire life.

♡ What pulled me into this story was the journey that Fern was embarking on. Her story is one that is familiar to many, growing up in a religious household and having purity and abstinence values forced upon you. The shame that chains Fern’s heart is so strong, and she carries the trauma of this upbringing on her shoulders that weighs down her every step. It was empowering to see her work through this inner turmoil and realise that there is no need to feel humiliation or embarrassment for owning her sexuality. She went on an amazing journey from the start of Unforgivable to the end. Her strength lingers inside her heart, but it is heavily facilitated through the love she finds through Sean. I think Sean worked well as a counterpart to Fern, drawing her out of her shell and showing her the power of standing up for herself and taking what she wants. Sean may have a dark past, but honestly, he came across as a well-adjusted man who has generosity and kindness in abundance. As much as I appreciated Fern stepping into a brave new world and standing firm against those who would make her feel lesser, just for asking for something so human and natural, I wish it came more from within, rather than at the hands of the men in her life. She was so reliant on the men around her for her strength, and I counted her incredibly lucky for finding such supportive and kind men, because this could have taken an awful turn if not.
♡ I had hoped that we would spend more time diving into the themes of this book. I wanted more depth regarding Fern discarding her deeply ingrained shame, or Sean learning to step back and accept the care he never received growing up. This is where this book, unfortunately, fell flat for me. There were moments where I wanted us to slow down and let important story-driving moments breathe. It was as if we were barrelling through the story at record pace, and I missed a lot of connection with the characters due to this. The spice was good for the most part, and if you want to enjoy a steamy book, then Unforgivable will definitely fulfil this for you, and you will have an amazing time. There was one particular scene that completely pulled me out of the story. I don’t want to spoil it, and if you enjoyed it, then there is no shame from me! It just didn’t work for me personally. I am glad that Fern was able to tick something from her bucket list, and Sean didn’t have to share, so it worked out well for the characters. However, it came across as awkward, and I was very quickly dragged out of the story, which did hinder my enjoyment.
♡ I appreciate the chance to read this ARC, and my opinions are no reflection on the author or their writing, it just unfortunately didn’t work for me this time. This book will be well-loved by many for its steamy scenes, hot MMC and endearing FMC. I will always celebrate characters who grow past their trauma and don’t let the past hold them back or shape their future. Unforgivable is an insta-love, billionaire romance that stands out from the other billionaire romances I have read. It mainly focused on the relationship aspect between Sean and Fern. So if you love stories that are character-led and driven by the connections the characters have with one another, you will find a home in Unforgivable.
🌆🔥 Learning to Want Without Apology 🔥🌆 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Unforgivable is HOT, but what made this a five-star read for me was everything happening beneath that heat. Fern and Sean have electric chemistry from the beginning, but Fern's journey of discovering who she is when she finally gets to make her own choices gave this story so much more depth than I expected.
Fern has spent most of her life living according to the expectations of her extremely sheltered and controlling religious community. She's been taught to associate her own wants and sexuality with guilt and shame, and now that she's escaped that life and moved to Manhattan, she's finally getting the opportunity to figure out what she wants. I absolutely loved watching her slowly come alive. Her bedroom bucket list may provide some seriously spicy moments, but it also becomes part of something much bigger. Fern is learning to ask for what she wants without apologizing for it.
And then there's Sean. 🔥
He's a billionaire sports agent, ruthless negotiator, control freak, and Fern's new boss. He also happens to be the anonymous stranger she spent one unforgettable night with before either of them knew they'd soon be working together. They try to keep things professional, but the chemistry between these two makes that plan pretty much doomed from the start.
What surprised me most about Sean was how much I loved the man underneath all that control. He's commanding and protective, but he's also patient, caring, and incredibly supportive of Fern. He doesn't swoop in and take over her life. He gives her room to make her own decisions, listens to what she wants, and creates a space where she feels safe enough to explore parts of herself she's spent years being told to suppress. I loved that he could relinquish some of that famous control when Fern needed it.
Their relationship also works because they give something important back to each other. Sean helps Fern understand that her wants don't make her wrong, while Fern slowly shows a man who handles everything himself that vulnerability and depending on another person aren't weaknesses.
The found family was another highlight for me. Kevin and Micah give Fern the genuine friendship and unconditional support she has been missing, and I loved watching her build a life filled with people who accept her as she is.
And YES, this book is spicy. Very spicy. 🔥 But I appreciated that the intimacy actually connects to Fern's character arc and her journey toward freedom, confidence, and self-discovery rather than existing simply for the sake of heat.
There are secrets, emotional wounds, workplace tension, plenty of swoon-worthy protectiveness, and some late-story moments that had my jaw dropping. I also really enjoyed the dual POV because getting inside both Fern and Sean's heads added another layer to their relationship.
Unforgivable gave me the addictive billionaire boss romance I expected while also delivering a heroine whose personal journey I genuinely cared about. Watching Fern shed the expectations of her old life and realize that she gets to decide who she wants to be was easily my favorite part.
Hot, emotional, empowering, and completely addictive. Sean and Fern were exactly what I wanted them to be. ❤️🔥
Thank you to Meghan French and The Smuthood for the gifted advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Starting off by saying… this book is spicyyyyy!!! 🌶️
The spice starts early and absolutely does not let up, so if you’re not into sex-heavy romances, this probably won’t be the book for you. BUT there is so much more going on beneath all that heat.
I loved watching Fern regain her confidence, reclaim her sexuality and learn to live without guilt. Seeing her finally break free from the expectations of her religious background and begin making her own choices felt incredibly empowering and refreshing.
And the fact that she goes on this journey of self-discovery with her stoic boss?
Delicious.
There are so many factors at play, and I don’t want to spoil anything, but she truly could not have found a better partner for it.
Now, Sean? HOT.
He may appear stoic, but this man has LAYERS. He’s caring, confident, protective, a skilled negotiator, a strict boss and a considerate yet assertive partner who knows exactly when to offer praise and when to take control.
More importantly, he is constantly waving green flags. He gives Fern the space to speak for herself, supports her without taking away her agency and fiercely protects the people he cares about. We love a man who helps her find her own strength instead of trying to become her hero.
The book gives us enough context about their pasts to understand their personalities and trauma without becoming overwhelmingly angsty. There are some heart-breaking moments, but overall, it still delivers everything you want from a fun and addictive office romance: tension, chemistry, emotional depth and enough spice to set your Kindle on fire.
I also adored Fern’s found family with Kevin and Micah. They were wonderful friends, and I loved how deeply they cared for her and consistently showed up when she needed them. Emotionally supportive besties? We love to see it.
The writing is engaging, the characters have genuine depth and, although sex is a major theme, the plot does not revolve around it entirely. At its heart, this is a story about freedom, confidence, healing, love and rediscovering yourself without guilt.
The only downsides for me was the chapters were sometimes really short and there where a lot of them for a shorter book, I did love the dual POVs though. Towards the end the amount of sex was becoming a bit much for me personally but I do understand the relevance of it in the story and in Fern's journey. Overall a fab read.
Thank you The Smuthood and Meghan French for the opportunity to read this. My opinions are my own.
eARC provided by author and Smuthood for an honest review
This book was spicccyyy!! I would def say this one’s for those whole love a lot of spice in their books!
I loved the character growth that both MCs went through!! And Meghan’s writing style was amazing! You could really feel the characters emotions in this one
Fern Francis is a twenty seven year old who moved to Manhattan 2 years prior to escape her super religious parents and society. Throughout the book we find out what all Fern went through living at home and the derogatory words she was called because she wanted to explore her sexuality. She lives with two guy roommates who have become her best friends and allies! She has a bucket list for exploring NYC and one for sexual explorations
Sean Jeffers is a billionaire sports agent who knows what he wants and how he wants it! He had to step up when he was younger to help his brothers after the death of his dad and when his mother chose to leave.
Sean and Fern meet at an Irish pub and instantly hit it off and agree to a steamy ONS! Sean a gentleman lets Fern decide how she wants the night to go and treats her to room service and aftercare. Fern in turn leaves him wondering what it was about her that has him thinking of her even days later
Fern is in need of a real job and her roommate Kev is actually Sean’s assistant and offers her a job at the company.. the two come face to face when Sean returns to the office 3 days after Fern has started working there. There was a rocky start but they both acted professionally and overcame this pretty quickly
They try to act as professionally as they can but can’t ignore the attraction they have for each other leading them back into bed together. Over time Sean goes above and beyond for Fern and she trusts him to tell him about her sexual bucket list which she had already marked his name on the few they already did like ONS! Sean helps Fern explore her sexuality and become comfortable in her own skin again after years of being called derogatory names by her family and the society she used to live in.. Sean teaches her to be authoritative and not to apologize for what she wants!
Over time their secrets are revealed and Fern has to return home.. but is she stronger or does she resort back to her old self?
I loved Sean as a MMC in this one. He was so patient with Fern and told her that she shouldn’t feel sorry for having a sexual appetite
Tropes: ONS workplace romance billionaire romance bedroom bucket list toxic parents rope play sexual exploration degradation praise
There are romances that give you butterflies, and then there are romances that remind you that healing isn't a straight path—it comes from finding someone who sees every broken piece of you and chooses to stay anyway. Unforgivable was that kind of story for me. Sean and Fern completely captured my heart. On the surface, they're complete opposites: Sean is the grumpy, incredibly successful billionaire sports agent who thrives on control, while Fern is bright, hopeful, and still learning how to reclaim parts of herself after everything she's endured. Their relationship begins with a one-night stand that neither of them expects to change their lives, only for fate to throw them together again in the workplace. Watching their connection evolve from undeniable attraction into genuine trust was my favorite part of the entire book. What stood out most was how their relationship was built. Yes, the chemistry is intense from the very beginning, and the sexual bucket list brings plenty of fun, steamy, and unforgettable moments, but underneath all of that is something much deeper. Every vulnerable conversation, every act of comfort, and every moment where they chose honesty over fear made their love feel earned. Sean doesn't simply fall for Fern—he becomes someone who helps her believe she's worthy of love without conditions. At the same time, Fern slowly breaks through Sean's carefully controlled exterior, reminding him that strength isn't found in keeping people at a distance. The hurt/comfort elements were beautifully done and added so much emotional depth. Both characters carry scars from their pasts, and instead of trying to "fix" one another, they learn to support each other through healing. Their journey reminded me that our past doesn't define us—it can become the very thing that teaches us resilience, especially when we have people willing to help us rise. That message echoed the dedication perfectly and stayed with me long after I finished the book. If you love romances with: Workplace Romance Billionaire Hero One-Night Stand Sexual Bucket List Age Gap Grumpy × Sunshine Hurt/Comfort Emotional Healing Incredible Chemistry then I highly recommend Unforgivable. Meghan French created more than a forbidden workplace romance—she wrote a story about overcoming shame, embracing vulnerability, and discovering that love isn't about erasing the past but learning to rise above it together. Sean and Fern's journey made me smile, ache, hope, and ultimately believe in the healing power of unconditional love. It's a romance I'll be thinking about for a long time.
Sean is a sports agent who has spent his entire career building an empire and getting exactly what he wants...but...does he have it all? Classic case of big brother taking care of everyone around him and keeping it wound really tight in the personal zone.
I absolutely loved Fern - she's inexperienced, but feisty and not about to back down or be intimidated by Sean's confidence - she's been through too much and knows how to stand up for herself. Fern is our raised-with-religious-trauma babe who has made it to Manhattan, and she is scrappy and going to experience all of the life she's been shielded from - starting with a one night stand.
They meet, and her fierce personality shines through despite her nerves and inexperience...and Sean is intrigued. Enough so that he's disappointed when he wakes up the next morning to find her gone...until, she shows up in his office, newly hired as his head of charitable giving. This workplace romance absolutely combusts with their chemistry, and they begin to check off the items on Fern's new-carpe-diem-bucket-list...including the after-midnight version. As they explore together, their intimacy grows in every way, and when Fern's past comes racing back into her life, they get to see how strong their bond is when challenged.
These two are so soft with each other - I love how they each get to indulge their need to take care of someone else, while at the same time, allow the other to take care of them in ways no one else gets to. They're brave enough to explore with each other - and when things get super intense, they apologize and make it up to one another (it gets deep!). The honesty is really the hottest part - it's so vulnerable, and they are both so open to growing with each other that you feel it beyond the physical intimacy. Their spicy times are super fun and watching Fern jot it all down in her notebook made me giggle. It's definitely intimacy-heavy, and I loved watching them explore new things together and figure out what worked for them.
The friends and family are also great - I immediately wanted Cian to get his own book too!
*Opinions are my own, and I am grateful to the author for an ARC of this book.
I have to start this review by saying this book is deliciously spicy. Like…from the very beginning, and it just keeps going. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about everything else because I actually really liked this one.
Fern is an innocent, nervous twenty-something who grew up in a very sheltered, religious household, leaving her with a lot of complicated feelings about sex and her sexuality. After escaping to New York, she creates a bucket list, and one of the items is having a one night stand with a stranger. Enter her meet cute with Sean.
Sean is a billionaire sports agent who’s very in control, a little demanding, and definitely the no-nonsense type. The two have a very spicy one night stand, only to find themselves working together a couple of weeks later with Sean as Fern’s boss. Obviously they both try to keep things professional…but you can probably imagine how well that goes.
What follows is a really spicy romance that also explores sexuality, boundaries, and Fern figuring out what she wants and what she likes. Sean was honestly the sweetest. He was so understanding, always making Fern feel safe, comfortable, and deserving of what she wanted, which I really loved.
I honestly enjoyed everything about this book. There wasn’t a lot of over-the-top drama or unnecessary angst. At its core, it was about two very different people helping each other grow. Sean helped Fern embrace her sexuality without shame, while Fern taught Sean how to let someone in and accept that it’s okay to lean on other people sometimes.
Together, they were just such a sweet couple. I loved their communication, the way they supported each other, and how healthy their relationship felt. Yes, this book is very spicy, but underneath all of that is a genuinely sweet and heartfelt romance.
The writing was great, the pacing was great, and it was the perfect length. If you like spicy books, but with an actual plot and a heartfelt feelings, then I definitely recommend picking this one up. I can’t wait to continue the series.
🌟 thank you to Meghan French and The Smuthood for this ARC and the opportunity to read and provide my honest review
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I would rate this story 4.5 ⭐
This story follows Fern, lady in her late 20’s who is trying to break free of the shackles from her childhood upbringing and subsequent trauma as a result. She meant Sean in a bar and intends to use him to fulfill one of her sexy bucket list items, a one-night stand. All goes to plan but imagine their surprise when they come face to face with each other again, when Fern is introduced to Sean as her newest employee. It is a wild and spicey ride from there.
Fern was just such as ray of sunshine. She was slightly naïve, but she was not unaware of this fact. She was doing everything she could to shed the stigmas she was instilled with growing up in a Christian community. She was reclaiming her life through her s—ual explorations and figuring out what she liked and didn’t like.
Which brings me to Sean, a man who is in his early 40’s a workaholic and grumpy as all sin. Pretty much the yin to Fern’s yang. The way he held space for Fern, and just dove head first into helping her go through her bucket list and falling head over heels for her was just, honestly green flag behaviour. They complimented each other so well.
My good golly! I do not know what Meghan French put in this book, but boy did I eat it up and leave no crumbs. I legit finished this book in under 24hrs. I could not put it down. I mean I made myself put it down at 2:30am because I had to work the next day, but you get my point. The story was beautifully written and while it was super duper spicey, I felt like it was done tastefully and it added value to the story because Fern was healing while engaging with Sean during these scenes. Like I said, beautifully written and just a pleasure to read. There are some trigger worthy things within the contents that I would suggest reading about before diving in. It won’t be for everyone but if you are ok with the triggers, please please please do yourself a favour and read it.
Unforgivable by Meghan French is a workplace romance that blends sizzling chemistry with emotional healing and personal growth. Fern was raised in an extremely religious household where she was taught that sex existed only for a man's pleasure or for having children. After enduring a traumatic experience, she makes the difficult decision to leave her family behind and build a new life in New York. Determined to experience life on her own terms, she checks one item off her bucket list with a one-night stand, meeting the irresistibly handsome Sean. Sean is the grumpy billionaire owner of a rapidly growing sports agency. After just three days in her new job, Fern comes face-to-face with her mystery man. Sean's first assumption is that she's been stalking him, only to discover that Fern is roommates with his assistant, Kevin, who recommended her for the position. Neither of them realized they had unknowingly crossed paths again. Despite agreeing their night together would be a one-time thing, the chemistry between Sean and Fern is impossible to ignore. Their attraction only intensifies as they work together, making it increasingly difficult to keep things professional. With the support of her roommates, Fern gradually sheds the fears and beliefs instilled in her upbringing, growing into a confident, independent woman who learns to stand up for herself. Sean also finds himself changing as their relationship deepens, proving that growth isn't just for the heroine. When a family emergency forces Fern to return to the home she fought so hard to escape, she's confronted with the past that nearly broke her. Will she find the strength to survive and return to Sean, or will the weight of her old life pull her away forever? If you love workplace romances featuring a grumpy billionaire, scorching chemistry, emotional healing, and meaningful character growth for both the FMC and MMC, Unforgivable by Meghan French is one to add to your TBR.
This book had me in all my emotions from crying to anger to laughing. This was such an AMAZING book. I absolutely fell for Fern and Sean all the way! The ending had me grinning ear to ear. Sean was a protective grumpy man and Fern was a sunshine kind of woman and they fit so well together!!!!

“This Book Has All The Best Feels & Heat!” Unforgivable by Meghan French will have you gushing with Fern and Sean’s lives. Finding out her new boss is the guy from her sexual bucket list’s “one night stand”, turns Fern’s workplace a little more stressful. However, neither she nor her boss Sean can forget their one night together. Just that aspect of the book is delicious-the heat slowly amping up as they try to behave themselves at work…wondering if one or both will falter in the face of their overwhelming chemistry. The fact that Fern’s best friend and roommate knows about the fling is a fun, comedic addition. Kevin never giving up the chance to laugh at/with Fern’s dilemma. Or, as Sean’s assistant, smirking at his boss’s struggle. Eventually, chemistry wins and when that happens, we all do, too. Sean helping Fern with her bucket list keeps this book super spicy. I was reading with one hand, fanning myself with the other. Definitely the right tone and description to enjoy their sexual romps. Ms. French could’ve ended the book midway and it still would’ve been enjoyable. Instead, she makes the main characters even better. Along the way, we learn more about Fern’s restrictive upbringing and Sean’s neglectful one. French gives us two fully 3D characters with faults and strengths that you can’t help but cheer for them to find success. And, even more drama and depth than was expected. She gives us side characters like roommates Kevin and Micah, and Sean’s work partner Cian who bring laughter and levity to otherwise dismal occurrences. But, can Sean and Fern survive a workplace romance in hiding? Will they, won’t they, or will their past come back to haunt them? Read it for yourself-I guarantee it’s a great time. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was such a spice-heavy workplace romance. The spice was hot and well written. It starts as a ONS, then Fern gets hired at Sean’s agency and despite them trying to stay away from each other, they find themselves getting pulled back into each others orbit. Sean finds out about Fern’s s3x bucket list and right away agrees to it, but somewhere in-between, it becomes so much more than that for Fern and Sean.
Both MCs did not have the best childhood, and as a result had a bit of trauma/ insecurities from it. For Fern, she grew up in a strict religious household where s3x is for the pleasure of a man (not a woman) and to procreate. Her parents are so terrible. For Sean, after the passing of his dad, his mom pretty much abandons him and his brothers and he’s forced to grow up and care and provide for his younger brothers. Turning him into a complete workaholic.
Fern and Sean complement each other perfectly in this book. Fern is one of the sweetest FMC I’ve ever read, and Sean is one of the greenest flags ever. The way they support and love each other is perfection. Fern regains her confidence, and reclaims her sexuality and breaks free from the expectations of her religious background. She developed so much throughout this book and it was so refreshing. Sean was such a green flag throughout this book. He’s a protector and a provider. He encourages Fern to stand up for herself and to be less apologetic. Sean struggles to allow people to do things for him, but with Fern by his side, he slowly allows her to care for him and do things for him. Sean becomes less of a workaholic the more time he spends with Fern. Both of the MCs are completely different versions of themselves by the end of this book, in the best way possible.
Unforgivable by Meghan French is a spicy billionaire, workplace, age-gap romance with strong themes of self-discovery, healing, and learning to love yourself before loving someone else. Sean, the MMC, is a billionaire sports agent, while Fern, the FMC, is a sheltered temp from a deeply religious upbringing who is navigating a journey of self-discovery in New York City. Both characters carry trauma and emotional baggage from their childhoods, but they've learned valuable lessons from their pasts that ultimately strengthen their relationship. Sean and Fern share a one-night stand, convinced they'll never see each other again. Fate has other plans when Fern's roommate, who happens to be Sean's assistant, gives him free rein to hire a new employee, leading him to hire Fern. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but I appreciated that they maintained professional boundaries at work. Even though they kept their relationship private, it never felt like an overblown, world-ending secret. The intimate scenes are well written and never felt awkward or cringeworthy, which can sometimes be the case in romances like this. What I enjoyed most was Fern's character growth as she learns that her wants, desires, and needs do not make her a bad person. It was also refreshing to see how naturally Sean and Fern's desires and goals complemented one another. Rather than trying to fix or save her, Sean provides the support and space Fern needs to heal on her own, and she offers him the same grace in return. Overall, this book is a great reminder that communication, respect, support, and genuine care are the foundations of a healthy relationship.
This is why you need to be honest about what you want and need.
Fern just wants to accomplish things off both her bucket lists, and having a one-night stand was a great place to start. She never imagined she would find herself working for Sean, said ONS, two weeks later. After a small misunderstanding is cleared up, they find they work together quite well, or so Fern thinks. Sean sees her as a temptation, and since he's the boss and knows the policy, why not enjoy Fern some more? Fern came from an extremely strict upbringing and has some plans of her own to enjoy now that she has freedom and never expected to fall in love. So what happens when she gets a call from home and needs to go help her sister?
Fern and Sean get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.
I loved how open Fern got as she got more comfortable with Sean and wasn't afraid to ask to try new things with him. I also loved that he was so patient with Fern in her exploration, but also in showing her the world outside of the bedroom as well. I do have to wonder what ever happened to Fern's parents and what they ended up thinking of the restraining order being taken out against them. Though Fern was better off without them. I did have a momentary panic at the beginning of the book that someone close to Sean was going to be responsible for Fern's past coming back to her, but I was happy that wasn't the case and that he does surround himself with great people.
I received an advance review copy from The Smuthood Promo, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a decent book to use as a palette cleanser. Something to read while waiting on the next read. I needed something to break up a large series I’m reading, so this was perfect.
I really like the purity culture history of the FMC. I liked seeing her work through her history. The shame and the “dirtiness” that she felt was well covered and was well written.
However, there were some themes of this book that I just didn’t quite “feel”. For example, her hatred of billionaires. It was just a note in the book. There was nothing really behind her hatred and she didn’t really have to battle with her internal beliefs to see the “good” that come become of being a billionaire. Like her best friend worked for a billionaire, but it didn’t seem like she even knew who her best friend/roomie worked with/for.
The only thing that she really worked through was her purity culture. She really should have gotten therapy for her grief and loss of her child. This story sort of lent the idea that her boyfriend’s cuddles and safety were all that healed her (aside from the sexual exploits in the bedroom).
I think there were a lot of good pieces here- but I think a little more time developing the characters and less time in the bedroom would have written a better story.
I prefer to have plot with added spice; not the reverse. Spice is only held and supported in a book- with a solid plot and good character development.
If you just want a spicy read, this will scratch that itch for sure.

Thank you to Meghan French and Smuthood for my ARC!
Unforgivable is a spicy workplace romance that was all gas no breaks! I related to Fern soooo much! I grew up religious, so I remember having a lot of the same internal dilemmas! I wish we dove deeper into that internalized shame, but I understand that wouldn’t have been as sexy.
Sean, our MMC, was HOT. 🥵 he had a lot of layers, but I wish we picked through them just a little bit more! Sean was caring, intelligent, and intuitive. He made a good partner to Fern and I enjoyed the duality of them in some scenes.
It follows a story of two people who have a one night stand. Sean, billionaire sports agent, wakes up to an empty bed and disappointment. In the following days, Fern starts at his company and keeping their hands to themselves becomes harder and harder.
And they do what any normal person would do with their new, hot boss— share their bedroom bucket list!!
Unforgivable is a story about finding yourself later in life, taking over your own mental fortress, and searching for pleasure in and out of the bedroom. This book is fun, fast paced, and spicy! It’s a nice spin on the usual billionaire romances we’re seeing on the market, and Fern + Sean feel like real people with real lives.
Thank you again to the author and Smuthood! This was a delight 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to the author/publisher for providing me with an ARC!
This book absolutely delivers on the spice while still having a strong, engaging plot.
The FMC, Fern, has recently moved to New York after escaping a traumatic family dynamic. Ready to leave behind her strict religious upbringing, she's determined to complete a bucket list, experience new things, and finally discover who she is on her own terms.
Then she meets Sean, the MMC—broody, controlling, and completely consumed by his work. Despite their differences, the chemistry between them is undeniable. As their relationship develops, he encourages her to embrace who she truly is, discover what she wants, and become unapologetically herself.
Sean has his own traumatic past, and watching these two support each other, heal together, and build a relationship based on trust and acceptance was one of my favourite parts of the story. Of course, their relationship also comes with one very spicy sex life!
This book is packed with steamy scenes, emotional healing, feel-good moments, and a beautiful message about self-discovery and unconditional acceptance. If you're looking for a romance that balances plenty of spice with an engaging plot and emotional depth, this is definitely one to pick up.
Fern’s moved to Manhattan and she’s ready to start exploring and doing things for herself, after having a very difficult past. She hooks with a man one evening at a bar, and their chemistry is through the roof. However, she just wanted to try a one night stand only, and leaves in the morning.
Turns out - it’s her new boss Sean. Sean owns Jeffers and Associates, the largest sports agency in the country. Work is his life and he doesn’t really have time for a relationship. Or so he thinks. He can’t stop thinking about her and once she starts working with him it only gets worse!
Fern was such a sweet, caring person who despite going through some horrendous stuff still puts others first. Sean was a great MMC and I actually loved that we got pretty much an equal pov of both of these characters which I don’t see often. I wish we saw more of the “normal” build up rather than just the smut, but who am I to complain 😏
I loved their relationship and I NEED books about Cian and Vincent please and thank you. Not too angsty or dramatic, a lovely easy story to follow but kept me hooked throughout! HEA 🫶🏼🖤
What an unexpected and powerful story of empowerment and self-discovery. This book gave me all the feels and don’t go in blind, read the content warnings PLEASE! There are some really heavy subjects handled in this book. The healing from trauma and the building of trust and respect was truly so enlightening to read.
Fern gets to realise who she is outside of her community that forced her to conform and surrender. Sean is a control freak that knows how to control any situation, except when it comes to someone hurting the people he loves.
Outstanding composition and handling of such heavy triggers, you feel and heal with the bonding and comfort of the characters dealing with their individual pasts that form them into the adults they are but realise that they can mend and reshape their hearts to help those they love and respect.
This is my first book by this author and it’s a hot spicy one!! Sean is a sports agent, a very talented, accomplished one. He had made lots of money, expanded his company and work consumes him. His interactions with woman are usually one night stands and he has a string of steady non committal women that he sees. Image his surprise after a tiring work day when he sees Fern in an Irish pub. She seems shy and timid and in-fact he asked her if she is a virgin. Fern unfortunately grew up very sheltered and has been taught guilt and shame concerning her needs. So she decides to strike out and have a ONS and be open to exploring. This ONS becomes a major issue when she becomes an employee and Sean her boss. They try to maintain a professional relationship but the sparks are hard to ignore and deny. Especially when Sean discovers Fern’s sex bucket list!! Great story of man who embraced and empowered a woman to express herself and try things that would make her happy. I love a story where a man allows a woman to explore and live up to her potential. Sean was a wonderfully complex man who I really enjoyed reading about.
The spice starts early and absolutely does not let up throughout the entire book!
Sean and Fern’s story begins as a one-night stand, one that is supposed to help Fern step outside the strict religious culture she was raised in and finally explore life on her own terms.
Sean is a billionaire sports agent who has built his entire life around independence. He doesn’t do relationships, doesn’t rely on anyone, and has always believed he can handle everything himself.
Even though neither of them can stop thinking about that night, they never expect to see each other again… until Fern ends up working for Sean, and the chemistry between them becomes impossible to ignore.
Meghan French had me hooked from the very beginning! She kept me guessing, had me waiting to see what would happen next, and somehow kept the tension and spice alive from start to finish.
Unforgivable delivers an age gap, billionaire, boss x employee, workplace romance with all the heat and tension!
This was an interesting read and I really had an amazing time… the notion of a women regaining her confidence and her sexuality, living without guilt is so empowering and refreshing, I loved for Fern to finally be able to be free!
And you know the idea of having that journey of self discovery with no other person than your stoic boss? Giiiirl! Of course, there so much factor playing here, I don’t want to spoil anything so I just want to say that she could not find a better partner for that!
Now, talking about Sean? This man so stoic but that is so much more than that, he’s layered in many facets, the caring man, the confident negotiator, the strict boss and the considerate and assertive man who knows when to praise and when to put you in your place… HOT!
I like that it gives us enough context about their past to understand their personalities and traumas but no give into angsty feelings, there’s heartbreaking moments of course but mostly is your typical office romance!
This book is packed with spice, it starts of early and continues all the way through!
Fern is on a journey of self discovery, reclaiming her sexuality, learning to live without shame for exploring her desires and needs.
Sean is a billionaire, extremely stoic, hyper-independent and protective of those he loves which is a rather small circle. He has also trudged through difficult times.
He may like to be in control, but with Fern he understands that in order to provide her with confidence and security, he needs to support her without taking away her choices and give her the freedom and security to explore her sexual desires. He continues to show up for her in a way no-one else ever has, proving love isn’t conditional and we get to see a couple who actually know how to communicate maturely and without judgement.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read with plenty of tension, chemistry and emotional depth.
It’s incredibly spicy from the very first chapters, but there’s much more to the story than the steam. Watching Fern let go of the guilt from her upbringing and grow into someone who felt confident and free made her journey so rewarding, especially alongside her stoic boss.
Sean was fantastic. He’s protective, patient, and full of green flags, always encouraging Fern without trying to take over her journey. I also loved the found family with Kevin and Micah, and the relationship felt grounded in trust, respect, and genuine support.
The emotional moments never became too heavy, and I found the story easy to get invested in. I really enjoyed the spice, and overall this was a fun workplace romance with plenty of chemistry, heart, and satisfying character growth.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading more in this series.

Huge thank you to Meghan French and The Smuthood for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨
First of all, thank you so much to Meghan French for the ARC! 🤍 This was my first book by this author, and I'm so glad I got to discover her writing.
I ended up really enjoying this one ⭐
The beginning was a little confusing because I didn't have the full context yet, but after a few chapters started to make sense and I couldn't put it down.
I loved how the author took the time to explain why the characters are the way they are. Their trauma felt meaningful, and watching the FMC slowly heal and rediscover herself was one of my favorite parts of the story.
And the tension between the main characters?? I LOVED IT 🤭 You could feel it from the very beginning, and the chemistry carried over into the spicy scenes, making them even better because they felt emotional instead of being there just for the sake of it.
If you love workplace romances, age-gap, grumpy x sunshine, billionaire MMCs, and books with lots of chemistry and spice, I'd definitely recommend this one.
Sean & Fern were absolute MAGIC. I was hooked from the very first chapter, both characters captured my attention so effortlessly. I have come across many FMC’s on this reading journey of mine, but not many compare to Fern Francis. She has this spark about her, her unwavering determination to be herself and she is the heart of this story.
I have also come to realize, I actually really love men written by women, specifically Sean Jeffers. I feel in a lot of stories I read the MMC can say the wrong thing once in awhile, or do something that can rub me the wrong way - but NOT this man , Sean Jeffers is the ultimate exception.
As a chronic mood reader & someone who can DNF a book over a cringey nickname.. I find myself going back to this one. There is something laced in the pages & within its words that has me in the palm of her hand! I am a simp for Fern & Sean… and I’m not sorry about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First time reading Meghan French and wow! This was so good! Having just read a few dark romance books this was the perfect millionaire book to break back into lighter books.
What was so special about this book was. They were together pretty much from 30% and there was no 3rd act break up.
Fern was such an incredible character. I loved all her background and how it added to who she was becoming. It was an interesting back story but it made so much sense. Heart breaking in places.
Sean- wow! Loved how spicy he was. He really embraced Ferns list and went with it. It was really like she was what he really needed. He finally struck the balance between work and being loved. Again, his back story made sense as to why he was so hard faced. Although, when it came to his girl he broke those walls.
It’s not just another cliche boss x employee, ONS book. It’s really about two people who deserve to be loved mixed with LOTS of spicy scenes.
