Kelsey Robinson has a plan for everything. Unfortunately, that plan didn't include a vicious rumor tanking her shot at a scholarship. Her carefully built reputation is unraveling, and the only person with enough social clout to save it is the one she can't Forrest Haynes, Northwood's reckless hockey captain.
Forrest is one mistake away from losing his captaincy. To clean up his image, he needs a respectable girlfriend fast. So they strike a deal. She'll help repair his reputation, and he'll help bury the gossip threatening her future. The rules are public hand-holding, rink-side appearances, and absolutely no real feelings.
But every fake date makes it harder to remember where the act ends. Away from the cameras, Forrest isn't the charming troublemaker Kelsey expected, and Kelsey sees through the confidence he wears like armor. The quiet moments start to feel more real than either of them planned.
Their deal was supposed to save their futures. Falling for each other was never part of the plan.
guys I’m riddled with guilt writing this review because there are actually barely any reviews here and I don’t want to hate on the author or taint perception of it.
But I must speak my truth and the truth is this book is poorly written.
I have no issues with the concepts or the plot or the characters. It’s the actual editing. It feels like paragraphs have been removed, or plot points have been edited midway through and the writing just feels really clunky in places.
I think the main thing is it’s kind of clear that the timeline must have been edited at some point, because there’s huge gaps but also characters will reference upcoming events in the future that are suddenly in completely different months to what was originally suggested and it was just getting a bit difficult to understand at times.
I don’t think this is a bad book I just think it needed another round or two of editing and then it would’ve been so fun because there’s really so much potential here
The premisse was cute but the execution of this book was a mess.
It’s filled with glaring issues concerning the timeline and simple plot points the author couldn’t seem to keep straight from one chapter to the next.
A 4-day pact increases to 3 weeks of having dated?? Monday is 5 and simultaneaously 3 days away in the same scène? Ridgewood/Riverside were seemingly mixed up sometimes and the author referenced scenes multiple times that we as readers never saw but were written like we should have.
The inner monologues and dialogue were crazy repetitive.
All of this drove my up the wall trying to read this book.
