I wanted to like this book so much! The description the ages of everyone involved the idea is fantastic but not even 10 chapters in and I can’t help thinking over and over “Is this AI”

A Murky read

I wish I could have liked this book.

I love a beta protagonist in omegaverse. And I love an independent woman with a career.

But the character's motivations were... Just...
- why would alphas pack up with an omega when their presence caused the omega pain?
- why would an omega pack up with an alpha who caused them pain?
- why would a vet do the job of a park ranger? They are completely different skillsets
- why would a vet risk leaving sick/injured animals without care by climbing on a roof without fall protection/backup?

The physical escalation just made no sense either. It felt like she was giving Silas a pity handjob.

Also... And I hesitate to speculate too much about the author's process, as I have no evidence - but there is a certain... murkiness in the authorial voice. An overabundance of mixed metaphors, an excess of emdashes, an overexplaination of certain emotional beats and lack of explanation of others...

And I've never heard someone call undercooked chicken delicious, because they always stop eating it as soon as they realise it's undercooked. There are also a suspicious number of legal violations that aren't violations - chicken related war crimes, prosecutions for looking too good.

This is what you get when you use a non-sentient machine to write something that's supposed to have depth and emotion... a deluge of pseudo-profound metaphors bloating scenes but adding absolutely nothing, limited vocabulary leading to grating repetition of words like Cadmium, and a completely indistinguishable writing voice because -surprise- you sound exactly like the other thousand talentless hacks using robots to write for them.

If I have to read one more gd book that describes feelings as shapes, I'm going to go blow spit wads on a data center in protest.

Another great beta-focused book from Harlow Jade

This newest book from Harlow Jade continues her focus on betas and their role in ABO worlds, and I think she has a refreshing take on what betas can and should be in a world usually focused on alphas and omegas.

The Beta Anchor focuses on a beta who encounters a broken, or at least breaking, pack. The FMC is strong but vulnerable, a great combination but hard to actually pull off well. The MMCs are distinct and feel very real life. You feel the grief and pain from what they’ve gone through, and you join them on their healing journey together with the FMC.

I loved this book, low angst, medium spice, slow/medium burn. This book is an about seduction through presence, through sourdough, through observation and the power of being seen. It’s unexpectedly powerful and I highly recommend it

This story had so much potential, but the ending felt rushed and i noticed a lot of sentence repetition because i read it in one sitting.

The most confusing part was the omegaverse anatomy.. it was kinda lacking?

This is almost certainly written with AI. There are a lot of repeated phrases especially the color cadmium… it is mentioned 21 times in the book.
