On a cold rainy night, Cynthia finds herself bruised and broken, running from the world she has known for the past five years, and running for her life. Just when she thinks all is lost, she is rescued by a handsome stranger who can give her what she's always longed for...

Welcome to Fallen Angels, a refuge for abused women on the run from the men who were supposed to love them. It is a place where these desperate women are given chance to rebuild their shattered lives. Here Cynthia will find love, passion, friendship, and a strength she never thought she possessed. But this seemingly peaceful sanctuary holds a dark secret…

Nadine, a moody street-wise Latina, knows the secret; but she’s not telling. With a crazed gang member ex hunting for her, she has problems of her own…

Janelle, the upbeat survivor of an abusive father, knows the secret; but she knows better than to tell. She has learned to block out the evil as she embarks on her own secret romance…

Someone is sneaking into Fallen Angels under cover of the night. He brutally rapes his terrified victims before slipping out as quietly as a ghost. But nobody will speak out against him. Cynthia has to figure out what hold this wicked man has over the women of Fallen Angels. And if no one will help her, she will learn to fight for herself. But she doesn't have much time because she may be his next victim.

This book hit to close to home. I lost my best friend since kindergarten to domestic violence. This book was great and inspiring. Cynthia fresh in college book worm falls for the first guy who paid attention to her. David saw an open opportunity to to run her life and sadly after 5 years she leaves and Teddy comes in to save the day and takes her to the hospital and to fallen angels women's center. Great read. I cannot wait to read the other book to this series.

"Almost Heaven" by Hailey Matthews is a story about abused women, trying to get past the pain and start new lives, or at least be able to move on.

Cynthia was a college student who had a wonderful new boyfriend, or so she thought until he started beating up on her and having rough sex with her. Like most abusers her encouraged her to leave school and her friends in order to isolate her, and no matter what she did nothing was good enough. Her world came to a crashing halt when one day while he was drunk he planned on raping her and letting his friend rape her too, things escalated quickly and she wound up in the hospital with a wired jaw and other injuries. She found her savior in Teddy, a man who found her and who's family has ties to a battered woman's shelter.

As a victim of domestic abuse I could identify with the woman of Fallen Angels and loved hearing about their growing strength despite adversity. This is a wonderfully written story about a subject that isn't written about as much as it should be. One in three women suffer from domestic abuse.

This story is a cliffhanger and may contain triggers for some. 18+ for adult situations

An ok read

Interesting plot. As a woman of severe emotional abuse, I can somewhat relate to this story. It was very difficult to end the relationship and the aftermath, but with determination I and my children made it and you can too. Be safe and be happy-you deserve it.
