Rival Mate to the Wolf Prince: An Alpha/Alpha MM Omegaverse Romance

Fenris, the strongest northern alpha warrior, submits to no one. Certainly not to that arrogant wolf prince with dangerous eyes and a crooked smile.

***

Fenris, the alpha heir of the Winterthrope Clan, chaperones his omega brother to attend Prince Damien’s Mate Selection Ball, hoping to secure an alliance with the powerful Nocturne Clan through marriage. But shortly after arriving in Nocturne, Fenris manages to make Prince Damien, the prospective ally and hopefully brother-in-law he is supposed to impress, his sworn enemy. The two alphas can’t spend ten minutes in a room without it ending in a full-blown brawl.

After the Full Moon Hunt, one clash between them takes an unexpected turn, and Prince Damien accidentally binds Fenris in a mate-bond.

In a world where alpha-alpha bonds are forbidden, and being bound by another alpha is seen as weak and humiliating, Fenris must fight his way through shame and a secret, vulnerable yearning for something he shouldn’t want as an alpha, and confront his feelings for Damien, the devilishly handsome yet dangerous wolf prince he is determined to hate.

I’m an introvert with a black hole for a brain. I live in the middle of the woods, work a stressful and unstable artist day job, and try to find my sanctuary in the different worlds I create at night.

I never really got past my angsty phase, so readers will find tons of angst in my stories, but rest assured, they will also land on a happy ending eventually, should they choose to jump on this ride with me. A Joyfully Jay review.

3.75 stars

This is the first book in the Bonded Alpha series and it does a skillful job in weaving in side characters and politics, without taking attention away from the relationship slowly building between Damien and Fenris, all the while building up a world with very strict gender and caste expectations. In this world, being an alpha isn’t just about being big, strong, and able to kill a rival. It’s about leading a kingdom, passing on a lineage, and holding the respect of others. There is also a very Roman approach to gay sex; it’s okay to be gay, so long as you maintain your pride and position, and are always the dominant partner and the one in control. To submit isn’t just weakness, it’s a repudiation of your very existence as an alpha.

But, all told, it’s very quick and easy to read. The pace is strong, the story entertaining, and I’m looking forward to book two!

Wow
The more i read this book the more i grew to love it.
Ferris has travelled with his omega brother to the kingdom in order to to attend the mating games so the prince can find an mate. Unbeknownst to anyone the prince actually has eyes for Fenris an Alpha instead.
I loved the fire between Fenris and Damien. And the growing bond they share

This does end on a happy for now with a slight cliffhanger. I cant wait for the next one.

A good entry into omegaverse

This is one of those times when I REALLY wish Goodreads would give us half stars because this is a solid 3.5 for me.

As an entry into omegaverse, The Rival Mate to the Wolf Prince does a lot right. There's enough familiarity here for seasoned omegaverse readers to be entertained, but Rabbit also plays with some of the conventions in ways that make this a pretty approachable introduction for readers newer to the genre.

First up: alpha x alpha.

Yes, alpha/alpha pairings have become much more popular of late, but I still enjoyed what Rabbit does with Damien and his rival-turned-reluctant-lover. Their relationship exists in a world where alpha/alpha pairings are stigmatized and those who pursue them risk being ostracized by their clans. It adds stakes to their attraction and gives the romance something substantial to push against.

That said, this is also where I wanted a little more nuance. The "two men love each other and society says that's bad" conflict is VERY familiar territory, and it hit a little too directly for me. With the possibilities omegaverse offers for playing with gender, hierarchy, sexuality and power, I wanted to dig into something a little messier than the same old forbidden-queer-love conflict.

I also have mixed feelings about Damien's journal entries. I liked getting his POV, especially because it gave us access to a character we otherwise have to interpret from the outside. But many of the entries mostly recap events we'd just experienced from another POV. Give me Damien's secrets! His terrible decisions! The things he's thinking that would make me yell at the book! I wanted those sections to reveal something new rather than retell something I already knew.

And this is one where I think another strong developmental and line edit could've pushed the book higher for me. The bones are there. The worldbuilding is interesting, the characters feel fleshed out and there's enough depth to make me care about what happens to them. I was entertained! But there are places where the story could be tighter, the prose cleaner and some of its ideas pushed further.

Still, I had fun with it. And sometimes that's exactly what I'm asking an omegaverse book to give me.

If you're looking for rivals, alpha x alpha, forbidden relationships and castle intrigue, give it a go. There's a lot here to enjoy.

Just maybe don't expect it to reinvent the wheel.

I can’t believe I’m the first review! I had such a great time with this story. I’m an absolute sucker for werewolves and omegaverse, so this was right up my alley. 😭 You’ll have to forgive me, but I think they’re just better than vampires!

While the story centers on werewolves, there’s also an underlying vampire threat, and we get sprinkled lore and history reveals that help establish the world and its hierarchy. I especially loved the Viking/Norse-inspired atmosphere surrounding Fenris and the culture of the North. It created a great contrast with the polished, proper society of the South and, of course, Damien.

The alpha × alpha romance was one of my favorite parts. Even though both characters are strong and stubborn in their own ways, neither completely overpowered the other. They each allowed themselves moments of vulnerability and genuine tenderness, which made their relationship feel balanced and believable.

I do, however, have to chide myself for starting yet another unfinished series! 🤣 I’ve already gone ahead and followed the author on Instagram because I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the next installment.

My only real wish is that the book had included a map. I’m a total sucker for fantasy maps, and they always help me immerse myself in the world, despite my vivid imagination. I also hope the next book gives us even more quiet, heartfelt moments between the main couple as their relationship continues to grow and they learn to choose each other despite the prejudice and challenges surrounding them. 🫶🏻

This book is well put together, even if the writing can be somewhat green in parts. A lot of "x, yet y," which ... once you notice, you can't get away from. A lot of adverbs, a lot of simple sentences, and yet for all that it's a very easy read. The world building is efficient, giving only enough to enhance or support the scene and never an infodump or pages long burst of exposition in sight.

The characters are well developed, even the side characters. Leif and Johnathan will doubtless be playing more of a role in future books, as will Damien's siblings and mother. For now this book is mostly focused on the growing relationship between the two alphas, and it's that relationship that is the one sour moment for me.

In this world two alphas don't marry, and certainly not same sex alphas. After all, if they are two men -- two alphas -- one of them is getting turned into the omega. And that one is Fenris. Through the book Damien is showing very alpha behaviors, often commented on by Fenris, who ... doesn't show those signs in return. He doesn't perform any of these "alpha" interactions, and falls into submission quite easily.

Not in bed, but out of it. (And why not have them be vers? It makes it seem like everyone is right in thinking one half of the alpha party has to be the weaker one when ... that's exactly what the book does. Fenris can and does fight, but emotionally, his position in the relationship is more submissive, more ... omega-esque.

Even so, I enjoyed it enough that I'm curious to see what happens in book 2.

This story starts with Fenris, the alpha of the Winterthrone clan, wanting his brother to be included in the Mate Selection Ball for Prince Damien. He wants so much for the two clans to be strong together, and he feels his brother might be the key to making this happen. But whenever Fenris joins Prince Damien in a room, they can't help but argue and come to blows. What isn't known to them is that when the full moon comes, they have their eyes open, and Prince Damien can't help but bind Fenris in a mate bond. Who knew that two alphas couldn't bond? Well, they learned that yes, it can happen. They struggle with this because it is forbidden, and on top of that, what Alpha wants to submit and say he was claimed by another alpha. These two fight for what could be, and I felt the author wrote this so well. We don't always choose who we are meant to be with, and these two men find this out. I was so happy to see that this was the first book in this new series. I can't wait for what comes next in this series.

This was an amazing MM omegaverse. This is book 1 in the Bonded Alpha series. I was hooked immediately when The blurb started and It says, "Fenris, the strongest northern alpha warrior, submits to no one. Certainly not to that arrogant wolf prince with dangerous eyes and a crooked smile."
Until Prince Damien came along and got him into a mate Bond. This was one of them I make a verses that you read and the attention between the main characters is so amazing you're just like oh Gosh what's going to happen next.
This was absolutely an amazing book I really enjoyed it I loved sitting down and devouring the book without stopping. I did love the HEA for the couple but the cliffhanger I NEED to know what happened so bad. Book 2 cant get here fast enough
Once again this is a new author to me and I've been venturing out reading a lot of new authors that are new to me and I tell you this one right here really clear my mind with this book and I'm excited to read more of what this doctor's written, Or what they got to come.

Ferris, the alpha heir to the Winterthrope, Clan is concerned about his younger brother who is being sent to Prince Damien's mate selection ball in hopes of creating an alliance to help secure the safety of their clan. When they get to the ball Ferris and Damien clash which was problematic and not what they were hoping for. But this was just the first complication for Ferris and Damien and as they work through first their dislike of one another and venture into dangerous territory of becoming something more it leads them to dangers that place them both in some jeopardy. This is an alpha/alpha pair and there are those who will use that against them. Stepping into their world - the author does a good job of setting the scene - left me anxious for them as this story was coming to an end. I cannot wait to see what happens as this was not over by a long shot.

I absolutely loved this story! It offered such a unique and fascinating take on werewolf society and the omegaverse. I devoured the book within a couple of days and am already eagerly anticipating the sequel. The unexpected turns kept me completely invested, and I loved that I could never quite predict what was going to happen next.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

My only minor frustration—and admittedly, this is a personal pet peeve—was the handful of moments when modern euphemisms or phrasing felt out of place within the story’s historical setting. If a story is set in a medieval-inspired era, I generally expect the diction and dialogue to reflect that atmosphere more consistently. However, this was still an excellent and thoroughly engaging story overall, and I cannot wait to see where the series goes next!

This was the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It is a great fantasy story with court intrigue, sweet adoration, restrictive societal norms, kinky storeroom fun and lots of bloody fights. I was swept up in the story and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I liked the structure a lot with the focus on Fenris and the diary entries giving us a glimpse into Damien's head. I would love for the next book to switch POVs but somehow I don't see Fenris as someone who keeps a diary. I really hope that the next book is about these two again - we never really got to see them interact freely, without the pressure of the secret crushing them.
I am looking forward to a little more world-building as well. This book focused so much on the relationship that I don't feel like I've learned enough about this world.

I wish I could give this 10 stars. I've already read this twice and can't wait for the next book!

Damien and Fenris are basically two sides of the same coin; both honorable, powerful, have deep feelings, have terrible parents but love their half-siblings. Their chemsitry was so magnetic and I couldn't put the book down. I was so eager to see their hatred/rivalry develop into friendship/love and though there are bumps along the way, the whole journey was delicious to read about.

There are some hiccups and a few parts that need edits, but very few and didn't take away from the characters and the story at all. Again, 10 stars, 100 stars, 1000 stars! So good that I will read the author's backlist soon. I've already followed them on Wattpad and read their ongoing story "Pawned to the Enemy" and omg that needs to be published as a book too! Another 100000000 stars! Roman and Adone <3

"Rival Mate to the Wolf Prince" gives us a fresh twist on omegaverse. It's the story of an Alpha/Alpha mating, which is considered taboo. The Winterthrope clan sends their omega to the Nocturne clan seeking an alliance. Unfortunately, Prince Damien is attracted to Fenris, the alpha heir accompanying his omega brother.
Damien and Fenris are both strong wolves. They irritate each other from the start. Lots of snark. Damien 'accidently' binds them together while they're in the enemies/rivals mode. A little bit of angst, some scenery gnawing as things settle. A decent amount of spice. There is some prejudice aimed at the alphas who are in the less dominant position.
The worldbuild includes hints of what comes next, vampire enemies. Can't wait.

This was such a great story. Damien was a really interesting character and a wonderful prince. I liked how steadfast he was even when it was inconvenient or dangerous for him, and he never let Fenris down. Princely obligation and politics had to be navigated, despite his heart being already taken. I worried about these two men from the get-go. Since they were both alphas and an alpha-alpha mating was unacceptable in their society, it was hard to see how this could end well, and yet… there was a most satisfying HFN. You could stop reading at the end of this book and be perfectly satisfied with the outcome, but I don’t think you’ll want to. I think you’ll want to know what happens next.

Rival Mate to the Wolf Prince is the first book in The Bonded Alpha series. This is the story of Fenris and Prince Damien both alpha wolf shifters. This was my first book by AnUncannyRabbit but it definitely won't be my last. I loved the characters and world building that went into the story. I loved learning about the world and where the different groups fit in. I loved that this was an alpha/alpha pair in an omegaverse setting. I loved watching these two as they worked through things going from enemies to something more. I loved that I never could guess what was going to happen next because of all the twists and turns. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book as a 5 star read.

I couldn’t help but feel sympathy for Fenris and Damien as who hasn’t wished for something forbidden? Their forbidden something is loving each other. It’s an interesting world that AnUncannyRabbit has created where werewolves are so accepting of almost everything except two Alphas loving each other. While this book doesn’t end on a true cliffhanger, it does end part way through the story and I am interested to see what happens next. There is a lot happening around these two characters as the werewolves are having troubles with vampires and humans and there are complicated political situations in Damien’s court. The story is well paced and exciting and even the side characters are well thought out. I really enjoyed this book and hope get lots more set in this interesting world.

As far as insta-love goes, this one was enjoyable. It was like a rivals to enemies to lust to lovers scenario so that was fun. I don’t think I’ve ever seen two alpha werewolves in a relationship which was what intrigued me about the story.

I thought the characters were all fairly well fleshed out and stood out from each other. Fenris and Damien were both very headstrong and initially butted heads, but the reluctantly developing relationship was a good time.

I’m interested to see more of this world and looking forward to the next book in the series.

Fenris, an alpha heir & warrior , accompanies Leif his omega brother to Prince Damien’s Mate Selection Ball. Fenris gets caught up in a brawl with other Alphas which ends with none other than the Prince. From then on each time they see him, there is always friction. Fenris tries hard to not clash for the sake of his brother & his werewolf clan in forming an alliance with the Prince & his kingdom. After one of the events, Fenris & Prince Damien are alone together in a bathhouse their frustrations lead to something neither expected. There is low angst, bit of spice & forbidden alpha × alpha romance. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Good read. I enjoyed the story and the twists and turns involved. Protective brother that steps in and finds he is attracted to the one his brother is to impress. The way he realizes this is through a fight. Go figure LOL I am very interested to read how the next book takes our couple from being found out through the fallout and beyond. It is going to be a rough ride I am sure. But entertaining if this book is any indication.

Damien and Fenris' story is a love story that is taboo among their clans. Their journey is full of twists and turns that pull you into their midst. But is love enough? Can their bond survive the daylight? You'll have to read their story to find out.

The characters are done very well and the world building is amazing. There are some steamy parts so therefore this is an 18+ read.

This is a new to me author, but it will not be the last. I really loved this one. Write faster as I need the next book. I liked the characters as well as the world building. When Ferris travels with his omega brother to attend the mating games to find the prince a mate, Damien sees Ferris and that is it. Romances between two Alpha's is taboo, but that isn't going to stop our MCs. This was a relatively angst free, quick read and will be one I read again in the future.

I loved the political intrigue and mystery around who is targeting the prince, and all the drama and high stakes of an alpha alpha relationship being exposed. It had great rival to lovers tension between Damien and Fenris, and I enjoyed seeing their bond develop, and their hate to love you chemistry.
Definitely invested and intrigued for the next book, especially after the brave and dramatic ending.

This was a refreshing take on the world of vampires and werewolfs. There is some background building for future problems between the vampires, and (of course!) drama/issues within the clans and the alphas. It's a good story, it just didn't excite me or draw me in.

..wow..

This was so freaking good. I loved the different aspects of this being both MCs are alphas and how taboo that is in their world. The angst between these two was done so well. The ending was perfection, I can not wait for the next book to see how this is all going to play out for these two.

I am a sucker for omegaverse stories, especially those that challenge stereotypes. Damien and Fenrir are both alphas, so there shouldn’t even be a story here in their world. This was a new to me author so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I did, however, enjoy reading it. The characters were really well fleshed out and got me invested in the story pretty fast.

This was a solid 4 Star read for me.

It’s the first omegaverse book I’ve read that wasn’t solely focused on the romance, but included actual worldbuilding and a more thought out plot.

I enjoyed watching the romance blossom between the two MCs, just as I enjoyed following along the plot. There was a lot going on, between light political scheming, an assassination plot and a brewing war, but it was still easy to follow along and let ample room for both the romantic relationship, as well as other, platonic relationships to unfold.

I look forward to learning more of this world and seeing where the plot leads us.
