Sawman Werebear

Rate this book
Slow-simmering romance, secrets by the dozen, heart-warming triumph, and a crew of sexy lumberjack werebears come together to tell Brighton’s story in this fourth installment of T. S. Joyce’s bestselling Saw Bears series.

Brighton Beck’s inner grizzly is out of control. It’s been months since he killed his tormentor, but just seeing the man who stole his voice has put his bear on a bender. When a timid woman at a local diner approaches him, he couldn’t be less interested. She’s mousy, submissive, and worst of all…human. Or at least he thinks she is, but she proves to him things aren’t always as they appear. And now it’s up to Brighton, and his broken bear, to find out who Turned her.

Everly Moore is up to her eyeballs in problems, and at the top of the pile is a sickness her doctors can’t figure out. When Brighton takes an oath to draw her bear from her, it’s apparent he’s not only lost his voice, but he’s lost his mind as well. But when she discovers the dark secret of what’s been done to her, she’ll have to lean on the quiet man who has intrigued her throughout the years. The only problem is, Brighton is fighting demons of his own, and if she can’t reach the animal within her and survive the Change, she and the man she is falling in love with could both be lost.

This one was pretty good for the series. The male hero is a mute bear-man who had been tortured as a youth, and the female is a woman who has no idea she is a bear shifter. She's just completely screwed-up and our hero can't resist being a hero...

Not all heroes wear capes.

There is a lot of angst in this book and a surprising amount of depth for a short smutty read. But, don't worry, still plenty of smut too. He may be quiet, but he's still a magic-peen owning lumberjack bear.

That's true. All the sex is consensual. And, magic.

3.5 I really liked the first part but then it kind of stopped being interesting.

Ah well, still a really good book for 120 pages, it's to be appreciated. It's one of the few good ones out there, so it's worth giving it a try.

A BEAUTIFUL "EVER" EVER AFTER FOR BRIGHTON !!!

Title: Sawman Werebear
Series: Saw Bears
Author: T.S. Joyce
Designation: Book Four of Series, Standalone Novella, NO Cliffhanger
My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars*****
Wow! What an incredible story! I love it! Sawman Werebear is the fourth book in the Saw Bears series by T. S. Joyce and it totally ROCKS! It is a standalone novella with no cliffhanger but if you're anything like me, once Joyce starts a series, you just can't stop until you've read every single story offered in that series. Joyce has quickly become one of my favorite authors so when she announces a new release, I can't get to my computer quickly enough to order it. And she never disappoints! Generally, I'm not one to pick favorites but every time I read one of Joyce's novels, I always think, this one is my favorite and it truly is, until she publishes her next book and then it becomes my favorite. I just can't help myself! They're all just so good but this one is definitely special, so special that I was bawling like a baby within the first three minutes and it didn't stop there. Oh my goodness! This book just broke my heart but amazingly by the end, I was grinning from ear to ear! Joyce has dazzled her readers yet again with another example of her amazing talent and boundless imagination. The story is exciting, thrilling, compelling, heartwarming, heartbreaking, humorous, sweet, romantic, seductive, arousing and sensual. The dialog is smart, snappy, funny, well written and flows beautifully. The characters are captivating, endearing, engaging, sexy and at times, down right hilarious. This story has it all and Joyce expertly combines these elements to craft a wonderful paranormal tale filled with romance, humor, suspense, heartbreaking drama, heartwarming love and a journey of hope and healing.

Bear shifter Brighton Beck has suffered unimaginable horrors at the hands of cruel human scientists. His bear has become a demanding and insufferable monster who cannot be controlled. Brighton knows he and his bear are both broken and no one is safe around his bear. He has accepted his lonely existence and vows to never claim a mate. Besides, no one in their right mind would ever want a scarred creature like him. He could never even tell a mate he loves her. Or could he? Hmm.....So he's more than a little surprised when he has an unexpected reaction to a mousy, emaciated, young human woman after she approaches him in the diner. But there's much, much more to this mousy human than meets the eye! You know what they say - never judge a book by its cover! Everly "Ever" Moore has never had an easy life and lately it's been downright tragic. She's lost her job, is drowning in medical bills and is about to lose her apartment. To make matters worse, she has been stricken with an unknown illness that the doctors can't diagnose, much less treat, and if something isn't done, if she can't find help, she will die. Oh my! She only knows that when she sees sexy Brighton Beck in the diner, she is inexplicably drawn to the strangely silent, handsome man. She is devastated when he rejects her attempt at friendship so she is understandably puzzled when she awakens in his truck. Huh? We all should know by now that fate can never be denied - no matter how painful the journey! Buckle up, my lovelies, here we go again! Sexy broken bear shifter-check! Courageous lovely heroine-check! Cast of wonderful characters-check! Heartwarming romance, heartbreaking angst, beautiful fated love and arousing sex-you bet! I fell in love with Brighton when he was introduced in the first book of the series and have waited for his story to be told. And it was well worth the wait! And it's always such a treat when all the wonderful characters we have come to love make their appearance in this story as well. I was totally enthralled from page one until the very last line! I loved it! I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves to read stories of tragic loss, unconditional love, never ending hope and incredible happiness. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Brighton and Everly's story was a really sweet one. We meet two people who have self esteem issues and tend to try and hide from the spotlight. Brighton, who we found out from the previous book had been tested on, likes to keep to himself and doesn't plan on finding a mate. When Everly drops to the ground with a seizure, Brighton comes to her rescue. The two are not very different. Brighton has a secret about herself that not even she knows about. With the help of one another they learn things about each other. With them opening up helps them to grow, heal and move forward. Brighton is a real burly man, woodsy, bearded. Everly is small and danty with some esteem issues. Very much a submissive personality.

this book wasn't like any other books I have read. As always a pure joy to read, easy with an HEA, sure with some magic around those characters but always with that warm and loving from the crew.
the difference I got was the settlement, even with all the surrounding, the outcome/the process were all about calming not like the grizzly bears were like TNT ready to explode.
Every steps were calm and collected.
And I really loved the animal interactions in this book, it was really sweet and a bit playful.
Still 3 books to go, should I take a pause or move on with our lumberjack crew.

Sawman Werebear

These two main characters heal each other's past trauma - it's super sweet. I appreciated that the MFC is “submissive” and the author defines what that means in this world.

“What does submissive mean? Weak?”

“Never weak.” He shook his head and leveled her a serious look. “Never. You just won’t want to fight like the rest of us do. You’ll keep your head during skirmishes. Your bear is a peacemaker.”

Of course, in order to be a strong “peacemaker” she has to build up some endurance and boldness and she does just that while helping the MMC tame his demons with her compassion and acceptance. They're a great pair.

Oh I just adored everything about this book. I knew I was going to love it because I already had a massive soft spot for Brighton from previous books. This book tugs on your heart strings for sure!! Everly goes on such a journey through this book, I felt for her so much. Brighton also goes on a journey throughout. Can they save each other before its too later? I can't say too much about why I loved this book without giving any spoilers!! Basically, it's an emotional roller coaster with these two, with a bitter sweet ending. I love the ashecrew so so much ❤

I swore I already wrote a review for this one. Probably my favorite of the series so far. Or close to it. I love the tortured male thing, I'm not going to lie. Does that mean there's something wrong with me? lol

Overall a super sweet book. As with this whole series I wish the books were longer, but that's really my only complaint.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Brighton’s story begins with heartbreak. When he and his twin brother, Denison were teens they had been abducted from the safety of their home and taken to a facility – a research facility where unbearable things were done to them both. They survived, they escaped and exacted revenge on several key players on their way out of that hellhole. But one man, the head man escaped their wrath.. back then. But now Reynolds is dead by Brighton’s hand after Reynolds had threatened them, their crew and Denison’s mate. Now all the memories are flooding back, the helplessness, the rage, the loss of his voice – it’s as though it all happened just yesterday. Brighton is out of control, and he left his crew to go to his hideaway in the forest to rage and hopefully, one day, to heal. Today he has a meeting in town with his Alpha. Tagan may rip him a new one, but at this point Brighton simply is trying to stay sane. A shy, timid young woman approaches his table and asks to sit with him… of course, Brighton ignores her and she slowly moves away.

Shortly after the surprisingly good meeting with Tagan, the young woman suddenly slips from her chair as she starts to seize. Brighton rushes to her side and makes the startling discovery that she is a shifter – a shifter who doesn’t seem to know that fact and is fighting the Change as her bear is trying to emerge. Brighton makes a split second decision to quickly remove her from the diner, for her safety and that of the other customers as well. It is a decision that will change their lives forever.

Everly is painfully shy, her self-esteem non-existent and she has absolutely no clue what is happening to her. She never equated the unpleasant bite that her so called boyfriend delivered during sex as a way to make her a better partner (jerk – one we’ve met before) with what has been happening to her for the past six months – and she has the medical bills to prove that she’s tried just about everything. But Brighton knows what she’s going through, and while his space has now been invaded by Everly, he’s not that upset about it. There’s something about this young woman, she draws him and for once his bear isn’t raging, but is calmer around her. He’ll figure all that out later, for now he has to help her through her first Change, explain what she is now… all the time using the whisper that is all of his voice that remains that cuts through his throat like glass shards.

Slowly Everly and Brighton begin to heal, finally release her bear, and will discover exactly what they mean to each other – even as Brighton fights it, believing he is unworthy of Everly’s affection.

I loved Everly and Brighton’s story. We get a deeper look at what was done to the brothers in the research facility – a foreboding feeling begins to enter the series here as the hints that all is not right in the shifter world begin to emerge. These two wounded, even broken souls are exactly what the other needs – true mates. And it was such an enjoyable time spent with them as they overcame obstacles and embraced their happiness… well deserved happiness.

If you love Shifter Romance then this series (and all the connected series of Damon’s Mountains) should be on your reading radar. Well told, suspenseful and down right sinfully sexy mates – what more can you ask from a really good series?

I hate to say it because so far I've been enjoying this series, but I was actually pretty disappointed in this one. The plot was honestly really boring. At the end, I was like....

description

The problem is that the heroine created for Brighton was just awful. Everly is the worst of every damsel-in-distress stereotype you can imagine. Not a single redeeming quality. She was needy and weak and useless and boring and helpless and a doormat.

description

And her whole back story didn't make any sense! Do you remember Connor from the first book? Yeah, the one Tagan killed for going after Brooke.

I also think the whole save-a-broken-man-by-having-him-save-a-broken-woman thing is

description

I would have preferred another strong heroine, like Danielle or Brooke, to help Brighton get past his messed up past. Honestly, Everly's "help" by just listening to Brighton tell the story of what happened and then he magically gets over it felt cheap and lazy.

And I have to say, this is the first couple in the series to have absolutely no chemistry. I honestly did not understand Brighton's attraction to Everly in the least. And their too-soon "I love you"s were just pretty cringy.

description

While I recommend the first three books in this series, I honestly would say just skip this one. Nothing happens in it, so I can't see how you would miss any information that you would need in the next books. So sorry Brighton was done dirty like this...

Overall Rating: 4.25 Rockin’ ★★★★
From the beginning author, T. S. Joyce has captured the interest of her readers with the remarkable Saw Bears series. She continues to weave her snare of ‘bearness’ with Brighton and Everly's story in Sawman Werebear. This is her fourth book in this series and I'm ecstatic to let you know that this is an amazing book from start to finish. I have been anxiously waiting to read this one, because what's not to love about Brighton?! He's a tormented, tortured bear that needs healing from the horrors in his past and only love can make that happen!

From the previous books (which I highly encourage you to read before this one) we know that Brighton and Denison were kidnapped and tortured at the young age of sixteen. The twins were dealt a bad hand from a mad scientist that wanted in the name of "science" to discover the how, what and whys that made bear shifters. Denison lucked out more so than Brighton because his memory is blocked from the horrible ordeal. Brighton's bear is angry, aggressive and even with his recent revenge, still reeks of pain and approaching madness.

When Brighton notices a petite shy, Everly in the diner while waiting on Tagan, he knows something is different about her. When a full blown seizure begins, he leaps to her rescue and realizes that she isn't human...she's a bear shifter that has been turned! He knows that he has to move quickly, so decides to take her with him to find out who turned her. From there the two begin to help each other find peace and heal.

Everly is frighten and scared and doesn't realize what is happening to her. She believes she is dying a slow painful death. All her life she has stayed in the shadows not wanting confutation or acknowledgement. Her momma has told her that she is plain and there is nothing special about her. When she is thrown into Brighton's world she begins to blossom and let’s go of some of her shyness and self-degust that she has been taught.

If I have mentioned it once, I know I've mentioned it a million times...T.S. Joyce knows how to write! She wraps you up in her creative penmanship and weaves a tale of passion, love and friendship while using her vivid imagination within the world of bear shifters.

Brighton and Everly. I really liked this one. There's no crazy over the top villain and there's not even much of a misunderstanding. Just two people who have had a hard life and are used to nursing their hurts in solitude. Brighton has long had an eye on Everly but is unwilling to act on it. He lost his voice in an unspeakable act of violence when he was just 16 from which his internal scars are just as deep and ugly as the external ones. But Everly doesn't see them as ugly and for her Brighton finds his lost voice, or at least a whisper of it. Everly has been terribly sick and has no one to rely on. But her mysterious illness isn't so mysterious to Brighton. Together they learn to heal each other. Sounds schmaltzy but the story manages to not be sappy at all. Although I did sigh with a smile quite a few times while reading it. These stories are always short and sweet but the world building is decent and as believable as paranormal stuff ever gets. Ms. Joyce has become an author I depend upon when I want a fun read that's on the short side and won't disappoint.

I think by this one I'm a little tired of how predictable TS Joyce's books and characters are and how inconsistent the efforts per book are. Sometimes it feels as if they had been done by entirely different people.

Brighton was another character introduced in book 1 that didn't make a real impression on me, not until book 3 when his tragic story was revealed and particularly called my attention with the ending in said book that spoke of trauma, retaliation, vengeance and redemption. He was a character I was excited to see studied in his own book and was somewhat disappointed to see used so little, explored so superficially.

Everly (her story behind her name aside, it's a very beautiful name) was a hot n' cold character for me, because I was going from completely invested to about to give up on her. Her background story is also one of trauma and difficulties. Her arc is shown as if one of growth and strength, similar to Brooke's but quickly enough became, just like Brooke's, a story of how she needed a man to become whole.

There were several aspects to the book that I found as inconsistent, like for example Ever's shown ability to lip read. I don't know if the author did her due diligence but lip reading is a practiced ability, not a naturally brought upon one, and it often needs a catalyst of taking a class or being forced by necessity. While this ability should've been expected in Dennison (for example) as Brighton's brother or the rest of his crew on account of living with Brighton in close quarters for so long it does not make sense in Everly who never spoke to him, didn't know he couldn't talk and never mentions practicing such a thing. The use of generalizations like "you've never done this..." in a story with this short a timeline makes zero sense, they haven't spent enough time together, even if they had spent it attached at the hip, if it had been a month... maybe? But a week? No. Descriptions of men posing with unease or discomfort by placing them linking both hands behind their head is inconsistent to how I've seen men react all my life, namely, the pose described I've seen more in men relaxed or tired, it would've been more accurate to depict them taking both hands to their heads to scratch or pull or ruffle their hair.

Also... isn't "gentle rapids" an oxymoron?

I was quickly disappointed by the development of the relationship between Brighton and Everly. It rankled that soon after they meet and after he found out about Everly's past they have sex. As a victim of abuse and trauma myself I find this unbelievable to begin with and psychologically unhealthy. Things like this made the plot something like "sex with Brighton will cure Ever" and it made me too self conscious of my own misgivings about sexual relations and men after trauma. It would've been better if TS J had taken time for Brighton to gain Everly's trust, to build a relationship, to boost her confidence, for Everly to work on herself, through acceptance, self image, self love and finally seeing herself through Brighton's eyes, knowing more about him and his past being capable of giving him that side of herself, sharing intimacy with him in a psychological level before a physical one... instead of the other way around. Sadly, I was also disappointed by Brighton's resolution, it was similar to Ever's in the sense that after an entire book of struggling he finds salvation in sharing with Ever his past... and that's it... I mean, not that I'm asking for unnecessary drama but again, as an abuse and trauma survivor myself and a psychology fan as well, I can't help but wish for something more integral and long lasting. Sharing is a good start, but I think their relationship would've been benefited and his recovery would've been warranted if he had worked through his issues for the reader to see, learning to express his emotions in a healthier way, learning to cope with memories in a healthier way, maybe forgiving or acknowledging his inability to forgive... there's so much that can be done and should be done about trauma in a character that I'm baffled TS Joyce didn't do any of it but instead showed a solution that is no solution at all in real life making the whole arc unbelievable and the resolution undeserved. Or for example the resolution to her daughter-mother relationship... COMPLETELY UNBELIEVABLE in many ways, and again it's a matter of psychology and healthy relationships. It would've made loads more sense for Everly to go "grey rock" on her mother or to even go "no contact", the resolution given in the book belittles the reality of many victims and survivors of violence.

There are also aspects to the way she read I find unappealing, namely the OVER-use of some phrases like adjetives (muscled-bound, crazy-strong, wild-looking grizzly bears). The fact that all women are "different than any other girl they've met" (which is also worthless coming from a socially awkward shifter living in a commune far from others) and all men are "the best man they've ever known" (sometimes despite knowing them for less than a week. Funny words used during sex that kill the mood like "detonated" or "plunged"... if your wording makes people think of cartoon explosions it isn't a sexy word.

And to boot the ending was so cheesy it made my teeth hurt... honestly, only in immature movies and books do character act like that in front of others. I remember having story ideas like that ending when I was 8.

So, in my opinion it was disappointing and frustrating because of many reasons that made whatever good the story had be lost in the glaring issues that came with every chapter. I do not recommend reading it, unless you're going through the saga, and I don't recommend buying it.

I loved this book. I could not wait to read Brighton's story and get a fuller picture of what he and Denison went through at the hands of IESA. We see in the Firebear books the organization turning the shifters into weapons, but with Brighton (and a little with Dension) we start to see the experimentation on the shifters. Seeing what Brighton went through and how he confronts it and is able to move past it in this story, with the help of his bond mate, was a delight to read. Everly is such a lovely character. Another great chapter in the Ashe Crew's saga!

Sawman Werebear by T.S Joyce a beautifully written story.

Brighton is Denny's twin brother. They both went thru hell, but Brighton got is worst since he is able to remember everything that happened to them. Where as Denny was lucky enough not to. Feeling lost and out of control, he takes a much needed break from the Crew to try and get his head straight. Enter in Everly, a newly turned bear who has no idea what us happening to her. Finally Brighton feels like he has a purpose again.

Can these to damaged bears save each other??

Fantastic

I thought Denison's book was my favorite until I read Brighton's. Brighton and Ever made a wonderful couple. Both had problems to deal with and were able to turn to one another to do that. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Loved this book with the very fragile H, silenced after being tortured. The h was a victim and the H
was the only person to realise what had happened to her. She thinks she dying, he knows she's been abused. He's wonderful with her and she saves him. Very sweet story.

Saving Each Other!!!

Brighton Beck hadn't been back to Asheland since the Crews' battle with people from his past. Something was wrong with him and he didn't want his crew to see him like that. He met his Alpha, Tagan ( LUMBERJACK WEREBEAR ) at a diner where he got to know that his twin, Denison ( TIMBERMAN WEREBEAR ) was about to marry the love of his love and he needed him there. He also received news about Brooke's pegnancy.

There was a woman at the diner that was watching him, she felt sick to him and human. But to her he was a calming presence, she fainted and he realized that she was suppressing an inner animal. He wanted to know who'd turned her.

Everly Moore had a lot of problems on her shoulders, she had a sickness her doctors couldn't hell her with. She found herself drawn to a silent, burly and handsome as sin man who'd intrigued her for years. She needed help to find out why she was so sick and it felf like her body was being ripped from the inside out.

Brigh made it his mission to show Everly how to control her inner animal. She was surprised by her first change but as always he was there for her and she felt loved, safe and cherished. She soon realized that his demons were bigger than he'd lead on. She was scared of what could happened to the man she'd fallen in love with.

She didn't let thay fear stopped her from being there for him, he finally opened up abut what happened to him and Denison when they were in captivity. It felt like a weight was lifted off his shoulders when he did. Everly met the Ashe Crew and they loved her instantly and vice versa.

It was great to see Brigh and Ever get their HEA and the expansion of the crew was a treat as well.

SAWMAN WEREBEAR was enthralling, heartbreaking, passionate and a must read. T. S. Joyce did an amazing job. I was hooked from the first line until the very last words read were....The End! 5++++

This is the forth book in this series and these books are better if read in order. This book is by far the most emotional. Brighton is Denison’s twin from book 3. You learn in book three that Brighton and Denison were tortured in book 3. Denison doesn’t remember most of what happened but Brighton remembers every moment of his torture. His bear has always been a little wilder but after being tortured his bear is worse. And now it’s even worse after killing the man who had tortured them. It should be better after getting closure but instead it has brought all those memories back to the front of his mind. While in a dinner he meets a girl, Everly who has a seizure and Brighton realizes she is a grizzly and something is wrong. Everly doesn’t realize she has been turned. Brighton wants to help her. He doesn’t want her to have to suffer like he has. If he can’t get her bear to come out Everly will die. Will they be able to save each other or just make everything worse? Everly and Brighton had seen each other before and were attracted to each other but circumstances out of their control kept them apart. Now some of those same circumstances may be what brings them together. This book had me near to tears several times. Both Brighton and Everly have been through so much and are still dealing with quite a few issues. This book had some serious surprises in it. Everly opens up to Brighton in hopes that he will be able to help her. He makes her feel safe and important. Will Brighton be able to open up the same way to Everly. He doesn’t want to lose her but at the same time feels like she deserves more than he could ever give her. I can’t say enough about this book and highly recommend the series.
