Each of us has moments of impact in life. Sometimes it's in the form of love, and sometimes in the form of sadness. It is in these times that our world changes forever. They shape us, they define us, and they transform us from the people we once were into the people we now are.
My first thought of Jess was that she was a major brat. She is self adsorbed, doesn't care about anyone, teenager. She cares what she looks like and she would rather be any where but stuck in the middle of no where.
Even though I don't like Jess, she kind of is the perfect character that some teenagers are like when they find out that their parents are splitting. Most parents try to shelter their kids as much as possible then when a divorce happens some kids retract into their shell, some stay the same, and others act like Jess does. She is mad at her mom and grandpa because her mom left her dad.
But other than that I totally wanted to b*tch slap her. The book was told between different P.O.V.s, Jess, Roy, and Levi. Between Levi and Jess there was to much going back and forth. Like Jess wants Clint, then all of the sudden she wants Levi then back to Clint. Makes no sense what so ever.
When I read the blurb I thought this was going to be a love story between Levi and Jess over a summer. Most of the summer Levi was in Nashville and Jess was with Clint. Not really a love story there. It was kind of hard to connect the two characters together when there wasn't very much experience with them. I feel like I didn't get what I thought I was going to get. The blurb made it sound way different than what I had read. We really didn't get much of a love story with Jess and Clint. This story has potential but I think that it could have been a bit longer and more of a love story for Jess and which ever guy she ended up with. I had zero connection with any of the characters.
By the way parents, please tell your kids the truth so they can be pissed off at the right person.
I could not connect with this book, each scene felt disconnected from each other. The characters feelings towards each other seemed to be constantly changing and no real picture of how that happened. Jess & Levi met and couldn't stand each other, and tolerated one another the next few times they were around each other, they spend one afternoon together and become close, then don't see or talk to each other for the next few months and then they are in love. How'd that happen? Ray and Brandon couldn't stand each other, but Brandon is the only person Ray confides in about his health. What the children were going through with the separation of their parents and the ending was emotional. I did like that Ray was a good Christian influence on the family and the family was able to start healing. The ending left me satisfied with how things turned out.
The Perfect Cast by T.K Chapin was a very emotional, powerful book. This a coming of age romance but at the same time we see a healing of a family. We see a family coming together with God's love and forgiveness. Jess is your typical teenager but as the story progresses you see her mature. The best part for me was Roy and how he used the root cellar to scream and rant at the Lord for taking his wife. Afterwards we see him using this a place to pray and how Jess and her family continued the tradition. I admit I was hesitant about reading a Christian romance by a man. Well ladies and gentleman, I was wrong. Thank you T. K. for proving me wrong. A copy of this book was given in exchange for an honest opinion.
The Perfect Cast by TK Chapin is another wonderful faith filled offering. I always know that a novel by TK Chapin will not disappoint, his stories are always a compulsive read with God at the centre. TK Chapin's faith and belief in God shine through his writings, which are never 'preachy' but are designed to make you think about God. At the heart of The Perfect Cast is Roy, the grandpa to Jess and Henry, who is a very godly man. Jess and Henry spend the summer on Roy's farm. It is to be a summer that will impact and change their lives forever. Not all the characters are Christians in the novel. Some even go to church but have never really had a relationship with Christ. Others, like Levi, the young man who helps out on Roy's farm, do not go to church, but have big questions about God. The reader too, might share these questions, and will hopefully find their own answers within the pages of the book. The Perfect Cast shows that being a Christian does not guarantee the perfect life free from heartache. Christians have health issues, disappointments and problems but a faith in God helps to cope at these times. Faith in God does not mean that Christians will never be angry with God over life events. However after they have taken their anger to God, they will also take their prayers to Him. God is our Father, and as such we all need to be real with Him, as the character of Roy demonstrates in the novel. The Perfect Cast deals with the theme of Family. Families can be loving, and they can be messy. Ultimately families stick together to protect one another, as demonstrated by Tiffany who is Jess and Henry's mother, and also by Roy. The love of the family can extend beyond its blood members - Levi and Roy clearly have a bond that goes beyond a working relationship. The Perfect Cast is a novel about growing up and awakenings. Jess has put her father Brandon on a pedestal, and labelled her mother as a villain - but a summer on the farm will open her eyes to some truths that need to be faced. No one is completely 'good' or completely 'bad'. It is also a summer for sorting out ones priorities, and deciding where ones dreams and futures lie. The Perfect Cast is a rich novel, so much more than just a pleasant read. There are complex relationships, there are highs, there are lows, but over it all there is God. Download or buy a copy of The Perfect Cast today, you will not be disappointed. You will have a great read, and may even be strengthened in your faith.
The Perfect Cast by T.K. Chain is a wonderful contemporary Christian novel that explores the depths of relationship based on these vividly written characters. Focusing on a young adult forced to adapt to unknown surroundings, The Perfect Cast lets you in on the thoughts and feelings of Jess, finding her way through troubled pasts, shattered relationships, and mending past hurts. The plot focused heavily on certain themes such as relationships intertwined with faith, hope, and love. Each character was special in their own way, and added to the story. Certain scenes that impacted a characters way of thinking and making them question others or God are my favorite! A charming, yet down to earth tale reveals that God can do great things, even in the midst of suffering.
I just finished The Perfect Cast: A Sweet Christian Romance Novel (Christian Love Stories Book 1) and gave it 4 stars. There was one placed where Roy used a curse word that was a disappointment to me. A coming of age Christian romance. Not only is there love between boy and girl, there is family love even when the family splits. You can feel the emotions of the characters as you read. I loved reading about the maturung of the characters. This is my first read by T.K. Chaplin but will diffently not be my last. I love this style of writing. This book was given to me for an honest review.
This book had a lot of potential and I think with some polish and a little more work would be very enjoyable. The writing was too descriptive and not active enough for my liking.
The story, while not entirely original, had a good premise. I enjoyed the love story aspect, but didn't like how it was presented. Jess was an annoying character and it was hard for me to connect with her. Every character was hot and cold, jumping back and forth between extremes. All of this, I think, could be easily fixed with just a bit more work. Not a terrible book, but not great.
A story of family, love, and forgiveness. An easy read that kept your attention all the way to the end. The characters were well developed throughout the story and the plot was entertaining. It was hard to put the book down because I wanted to see what was going to happen next. I look forward to more books by T.K Chapin. A copy of this book was given for a honest review.
First, I want to thank T.K. Chapin for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
T.K. Chapin is back again with another amazing read in The Perfect Cast. I have been a fan of his for quite some time. Therefore, I have seen his progression in writing in diverse topics. All coming back to his roots of his faith which I have always admired. Out of all the books he has written though I enjoyed this one the most. I know I say that to most of them. However, in this book I could relate to some of the situations in the book. Not only that he took on topics that he doesn’t usually talk about. So, we got to see another side of T.K and I liked it.
This is unlike any cover T.K has had in the past! It is edgier! I was extremely impressed and made me want to know what the book is about.
I am a huge music fan so the fact that Levi’s story faced around music was exciting for me to read. Especially since he liked my favorite genre Country.
Sadly, the storyline I related to was the divorce storyline and blaming the Mom. Never easy at any age when parents go through a divorce. I totally felt where Jess was coming from and understood her pain.
T.K. took us where rarely any author I know goes. We as readers got to see mentally a baby cow being born. The reaction to Jess’s face seeing the after birth was priceless. Then again, I would have reacted the same way. I just loved that whole scene and how the book was placed on the farm.
I loved the friendship that was forming between Levi and Jessica.
Adult decisions confront 2 young people with their whole life ahead of them. In this story we meet Jessica and Levi. Jessica is being forced by her mother to spend the summer at her grandfathers farm. And she is bitter about the change in venue as well as her family situation. Her father left them months ago. While there she meets Levi and they are instantly drawn to one another. But it’s seems as if the cards are stacked against them. Jessica is only there for the summer and Levi gets the offer of a lifetime that will take him away. Is there a future for them?
I love the themes of bitterness vs forgiveness, seeking God’s will, spiritual growth, fame vs relationship, and living the crucified life. I personally was drawn to Jessica’s relationship with her father and the struggle to forgive and extend a second chance. My favorite quotes are: From chapter 1: your heart might be tired, but your faith is strong. Trust your faith, not the fleeting feelings From chapter 18: (in a prayer) teach my heart to embrace that truth. You’re the only one I can trust wholeheartedly. Teach my heart that truth also, Lord, that I might abide in it.
I usually read historical romance, and while the bride is often young, this high school romance kind of threw me for a loop! I guess because I wouldn't want my own daughter getting married so young, I wasn't completely behind Jess in her search for love.
The narration was wonderful but a few times it was hard to decipher who was speaking. Especially between Roy and Brandon.
(I also never understood how Clint could use Levi's words.)
As usual the characters are true to life, real and unbelievable. The story is real life happening, not fantasy level, but God given life with its troubles and victories. Faith building and heart crying real life situation. As usual you will not be disappointed. I love his books and you can see his walk with God through his writings, he’s being used of God to stir our hearts and draw attention to God.
A separation in their marriage, has Fitting heading to her Dads farm with her two children. They are not happy to be staying with Grandpa for the summer. Especially the teenager who is angry with her mother. What begins as an angry scene, turns out to be a healing for all of them. Jess gets to know her Grandpa and learns a lot about what's important.
I liked the way this storyline took the reader through the changes in Henry and Jess summer on the farm. We always think that where we are is where we need to be and changes are not welcome. But sometime we are wrong. Embrace each day in our lives wherever we are. Thanks for the journey.
Jessica Gates is a teenager from Seattle. Her mother decided that Jessica and her other son Henri must spend all the summer with her father Roy, at the farm in Spokane, Washington. This decision makes Jessica angry and sad, her summer is ruined without her city, her friends. nice book, full of sentiments, I barely put down the book, love it, enjoy.
I loved this book! I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put it down. I loved Jess and Levi and Roy, whose faith in God helped changed their lives. I gave it 4 stars because it was well written and the characters were well fleshed out.
This book really shows the heart of the Father God in relationships! Its a beautiful sweet romance showing how wonderfully The Creator can work in our lives.
This is the best book I have read in long time. I love how the author develops the characters in the story. How he brings everyone together. It is very good story! You have to read this I am sure you will enjoy this book.
This book was very hard to get through & I almost quit reading it several times. I didn’t enjoy the book, it was very predictable and written very juvenile & cheesy. I will not read anymore in this series.
Cute, cheesy, easy read. There were a lot of grammatical errors that were distracting. The story was fun and I guessed the ending Andy stuff. I did like it though.
This was a fantastic Contemporary Christian fiction book, 1st in a series. I was able to read a copy of this book via Overdrive, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
A thought provoking read that every young teen as well as others should read and take the message to heart! T.K. Chapin delves into real life problems young people face when families aren’t perfect and the confusion and need for focus on their destiny. Putting God first and foremost in one’s life will make life’s choices and ways more clear.
received this book from the author for no charge in exchange for my honest review of this book. The opinions expressed here are my own.
Book Description:
“Meeting him was fate, loving him was a choice, and spending the rest of my life with him… well that was destiny.”
At the brink of adulthood Jess thought she had it all figured out, that was until her parents split and her mom whisked her away to the middle of nowhere. Her Grandpa’s farm was the last place on earth she wanted to be, and with no cell phones, internet or cable she was destined for a summer of boredom.
Man of Her Dreams Clint Foster, the man who has everything going for him. Successful, charming and downright gorgeous; Clint’s the man she can see a future with. The only problem is her Grandpa’s farmhand Levi keeps getting in her way.
Trading in rock concerts for chicken coops and sneakers for cowboy boots; join Jess as she finds love in the unexpected places.
My Thoughts:
The Perfect Cast is the first book of T.K. Chapin and it is great!! I have never had the pleasure of reading any of his books until now. I am very glad I had the chance to read this one. I really enjoyed T.K. Chapin's unique writing style, every chapter was from a different characters point of view and it really gave the whole picture of what was going on physically and emotionally. The transitions between characters and chapters were flawless, I never felt lost or confused. Their parents are separated and it has caused a huge rift between Jess and her mother, Tiffany. So Roy is trying to help all of them process through all of this especially since Jess and Henry believe their Mom left their Dad just because, when the real reason was infidelity. Roy has a helper on the farm, Levi who spends most of his time with Roy. From the start Levi and Jess explode....their interactions are hilarious. Jess had made it clear she could not wait for the end of summer and she had no plans of enjoying herself but as she started to give things a chance, she started to make connections. All of the teenagers know each other in this area since they grew up together so any get together Jess goes to Levi is there. Then Jess meets Clint and she falls for him, she thinks he is the man of her dreams and sees him in her future. Unfortunately people and situations are not what they seem and Jess learns that big lesson in her summer with Grandpa Roy.
I really enjoyed T.K. Chapin's unique writing style, every chapter was from a different characters point of view and it really gave the whole picture of what was going on physically and emotionally. The transitions between characters and chapters were flawless, I never felt lost or confused. As for the characters, I LOVED the characters in this book, even the not so good ones. The characters are well written and very real. I really enjoyed Roy, Jess's Grandpa. who lives the statement age is just a number. Roy is a faithful servant of the Lord and lives his life according to God's plan, or at least tries very hard to. I could not put the book down. It moved at a steady pace and definitely kept me on my toes through out the whole book. This story definitely has twists and turns. I found myself laughing in some places an crying in others. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction with some romance, you won't be sorry. I cannot wait to read more from T.K. Chapin and read the rest of The Love's Enduring Promise series. I give this book 5 STARS.
