All the stories in this book are thoughtfully penned. A few of them are revolutionary and the ones that will bring a change, not in loud ways, but subtly. As Manali has mentioned multiple times, this book is an ode to grandparents, which clearly reflects in every story; it's the thread that binds all the pieces with harmony.
Apart from family dynamics, some stories talk about preserving nature and saving water, unique, right? The horror stories do manage to scare despite being short stories. Overall, as I already mentioned, a delightful platter.
The quotes that remained with me are from the stories in the book. I won't disclose the title of the story or which section it belongs to. For that, you get your copy and read the book. As of now, available in Kindle format only.

Inked Inheritance: Stories Stitched Across Generations by Manali Desai has a refreshingly different premise: the presence and influence of grandparents forms a thread running through its stories. In an age where fiction often focuses on romantic and peer relationships, I enjoyed seeing grandparents occupy centre stage and shape the lives, choices and memories of younger generations.
The collection comprises 40 stories divided into four sections: Roots, Wings, Storms and Shelter. What I particularly liked is that Manali doesn't restrict intergenerational relationships to nostalgia alone. Some stories venture into surprisingly bold territory, including finding love again in one's eighties, while others explore memories, dreams, loss and belonging.
Peace Between the Pages, Stitched With Words, Once Upon a Page and Coming Out of the Shadow were among the stories that stayed with me.
There are some lovely lines too. “I didn’t think silence could be this loud” is deceptively simple yet evocative, while the thought that “the journey never really ends. It simply moves on” beautifully captures the larger spirit of the collection.
What didn't work as well for me was the editing. Grammatical and punctuation errors appear in quite a few stories and occasionally pulled me out of the narrative. I also found the movement between very different genres within the same broad collection somewhat uneven. With 40 stories, a little more thematic and tonal cohesion could perhaps have made the reading experience stronger.
Yet, the heart of Inked Inheritance lies in a lovely idea: what our grandparents leave us cannot always be measured or held. Sometimes an inheritance is a memory, a value, a story, or simply the feeling of having once been deeply loved.
My rating of the book is 4/5.

“Don’t throw words away,” her grandmother once said, “Even silence has a shape. Writers just learn to hear it later.”
Thanks to the author, I was able to read the first 8 stories of the book earlier, and because I had already read them, I was quite prepared to have my heart broken with these stories, and the other 32 stories did not disappoint at all.
And just like the previous 8 stories, these also show the difference between generations, their experiences, their struggles, and, most importantly, how the older generation impacts the current generation and why we need those connections. The author again seamlessly makes a bridge between them and shows how we can progress. It's a nostalgic feeling for whoever has the luck to spend time with their grandparents in their childhood or keeps meeting them.
Among the 32 stories, my favourite among all the favourites is "Peaces Between the Pages." As a reader, many can connect with it, and it also shows the situation of today's students and what they actually need. I love every single story in the "Wings" part. The very first story of it, "Stitched With Word," is for every writer out there. "A 'Good' Bye" is such a heartbreakingly sweet story that it made me tear up the first time in pain and the second time in happiness.

The author has brought to life every possible Dadu, Nani, Baa, Thatha, Ajji, Beeji, Bauji, Dadosa and Nanna through 40 stories in various sections. Stories that will make you smile, stories that will spook you. Stories that will make you think and stories that will teach you!
The themes of the stories come along with some surprises, some twists and lots of great writing that becomes a perfect companion for the walk down memory lane.
The author, as always, uses a lot of relatable scenes and memories that make you feel one with the narrative. I was a partial ARC reader for this book and I simply loved everything about it. It's also a favourite of my 11 year old!

This book proved me wrong, and I'm so glad it did. I knew it was a collection of short stories, but I never thought short stories could leave such a lasting impact. This was my first book by the author, and it has definitely made me want to pick up more of her work. The stories are short, sweet, and incredibly impactful. Each one carries an important message without trying too hard. The writing is simple yet poetic. There isn't anything overly dramatic, yet every story leaves a lasting impression. If you are craving a feel-good read or looking for something warm, comforting, and cozy, I highly recommend this book.

This book is a journey back into our childhood and also the childhood of our friends we had. From the love of a grandparent to the sacrifices of a parent, you find them all. These short stories in Inked Inheritance remind us how simple life can be and has been in the past, making us feel nostalgic AND sort of jealous of not being able to go back in time to such days.
Manali has found the magic to make us smile through these short stories with memories closing our eyes and indulging our senses. It is unputdownable and is almost like smaller episodes of things we have been through or seen someone go through. This is one of the sweetest books of short stories I have read.

Manali creates an engaging imagery that sometimes twists in the end in some of her stories. Some stories are straightforward and have an emotional core memory to dwell on. While the themes are different, the short stories make up for a quick and lovely read. If you are looking for something to read in between your major heavy readings, Inked Inheritance does a perfect balancing act. Especially recommended for rainy day reminiscences.

My childhood unfolded within this book. Although the book embodies multiple genres – humour, romance, thrill, horror – the one that stayed with me was ‘drama’. That unfolds gently, almost reassuringly with each page flip. Manali’s love for books, family relationships, libraries and the yearning for grandparental love; bathe her work in hues of multi-generational warmth that stays long after the last page is turned.

I loved reading the anthology of short stories on roots by Manali Desai. All stories have a bit of old world charm and magic in them. I particularly like the stories which move back and forth between the current and a throwback at the old times. It's really diffcult to choose favourites, but if I had to pick 2, I would pick "Once
