While Love in the Details was a sweet romance, I was disappointed in this book. There was an expletive and at least one crude comment. The thing that bothered me the most, though, were the multiple mentions of advice for the lead female to see herself as superior to men, which is anti-Biblical (see Genesis 2:18 and 1 Corinthians 11:3). This behavior was never corrected in the story, which told me it was being condoned. I cannot personally condone or recommend a book that is anti-Biblical like that.

There's something about a wedding that I just adore. Although it's not Holly's wedding, she's the church's volunteer wedding coordinator and a big Thanksgiving wedding brings her high school sweetheart back to town.
Josh and Holly have had years to come to terms with their breakup and neither of them have any intention of trying to get back together. The reason why Holly broke up with Josh in the first place was crazy to me, but she was a young and impressionable young lady, sacrificing herself for her love for Josh. It's so tragic when you can't really ever get completely over your first love and I was so happy that they could meet again to find peace and resolution. But instead of resolution, they find an undeniable chemistry. The emotion is tangible with this one--so much longing, a tinge of sadness, an undercurrent of hope, and those sparks of attraction, yearning to burst into a relationship once again.
I really enjoyed this sweet story--it's one of the good ones of this series!
Content: mild religious elements; mild romance

4.5 Rounded up to 5 Second chance romance that had a great ending ❤️💕 So cute. Holly and Josh broke up many years ago when Josh’s mom asked her to so he could focus on his career and college life at MIT. Fast forward to their late 20s and a Josh is back in town to help his best friend get married. He runs in to Holly since she is the church wedding coordinator and sparks start to fly all over again. Neither have gotten over each other but Josh never knew the real reason she broke it off so long ago. The story takes off here and she helps plan the wedding and they start to rekindle what they had.
There's something about a hero longing for the woman he's always loved but could never have that gets me every time! Josh wasn't planning to pursue Holly but after their first encounter since years of separation he just can't help himself. The clincher is that Holly never wanted to lose him but outside forces compelled her to set him free- against both their wills, and she didn't tell him why- which seriously ups the angst factor. I love how Josh conspires to spend more time with Holly and they fall back into their friendship and banter despite the palpable undercurrents of attraction and yearning. The novella is definitely character focused and was such a pleasure to read!
(Thank you to Zondervan Publishing for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review)
Story Enjoyment Rating 9/10 Christian Faith Rating 3/3 This was a great novella. I felt it packed a full story into a small space. The characters Holly and Josh have an interesting history, and it meant the opening of the story had tension and dilemmas. I like that there was a lot of Christian faith content and that the story centred around a church wedding coordinator. I loved the romance and the character development the author managed to fit into the small page count.
Eight years ago, Holly and Josh were college freshmen and completely in love. He was on a scholarship at MIT and she was at UT San Antonio. When out of the blue, Holly breaks up with Josh. The break up crushes both of them, and over the years neither has really forgotten the other or the love they shared. When his best friend's wedding draws Josh back to his hometown of Martinsburg, Texas, he knows that he will have to work with the local church's wedding coordinator. He doesn't expect it to be Holly. As the two work closely together, old feelings that never went away are pulled to the surface. Holly never told Josh the true reason she broke up with him. Now, she has a chance to tell her secret. But will the painful reason of their breakup years ago create a chasm that can never be healed? Or is the time right now for the two of them to have a future together?
I loved every aspect of this book. Becky Wade has fast become one of my favorite authors. So I KNEW that this was going to be delightful. I was right. I loved how Josh and Holly were both changed from the teens they once were into the adults they became. I also loved how each became stronger as a result of their breakup.
Josh literally had me sighing just a little as he spent more and more time with Holly. And when he found out the true reason she broke up with him, he was able to recognize that it was a good thing for the time. And I loved how Holly was so sweet and caring to everyone. She even managed to get on the goodside of the professional wedding coordinator.
This is recommended to anyone who enjoys happy endings, and fluffy romance.

2.5 stars It was a really fun little story, and the last chapter had plenty of feel-goods, but several things bothered me. -Characters lying to each other -Her friend Sam seeming to think it was okay to leave her husband doing all the housework and all the cooking and cleaning all the time and running around town having fun....um, no! Household work should be shared. Poor guy. He might be a "perfect husband," but Sam is far from a perfect wife. -Several uses of "holy _" (several different words) as an ejaculation. It isn't right to make light of "holy" like that. -Head-jumping. I got used to Holly and Josh, and all of a sudden we have two paragraphs from Ben's POV? Very jarring. -Holly's resentment toward older adults, gently brushed in...her parents who forget her accomplishments; her neighbor who takes advantage; Josh's mom; the wedding planner; etc. Literally, none of Holly's friends are good role models or pleasant side characters.
Anyway, I did like Holly and Josh. I loved that she's an author. I liked that there was a specific Christian mention even in this small story. But there were too many dislikes for me to rate it really high.
Love in the Details is nothing less than what I expect from a Becky Wade story – the characters are endearing, and it’s easy to root for them the entire time. She realistically portrays two people who were once in a relationship, meeting again after many years and different roads of life. It’s a genuinely sweet story that had me smiling while reading because they are just such likeable people. I appreciated the cautious, realistic way that they began to reconnect with one another – their reconnection doesn’t move too fast, nor does it drag, but rather it strikes the perfect balance with the length of the story. I also liked getting a peek into Holly’s writer life – I’m sure the author pulls from personal experience there, so it was fun to read about that.
My exposure to the Year of Weddings collection (published by Zondervan, a house under the HarperCollins umbrella) has been limited. I have one of the paperback collections on my shelf and read one other thanks to a blog tour. When I learned rom-com author extraordinaire Becky Wade was contributing a novella to this year’s line up, I knew, without question it’d be a must read. Texas as the home base might set the stage for most of her novels, but this one is “fresh.” It steps away from her beloved, rooted-in-Texas Porter clan to introduce readers to an entirely new set of characters. Lest you be worried this doesn’t live up to the quirky albeit loveable family, I’d like to convince you otherwise.
Josh and Holly are the hero and heroine of our all-too-short story. Josh is the hometown boy who returns in advance of his best friend’s wedding to a Martinsburg heiress. While there, Josh is faced with seeing, and in some small sense, working with his ex, Holly. In high school and part of his early college life, Holly was the only girl he had eyes for. She was the woman he wanted to marry… until she broke his heart by breaking it off with him. After she ended things, neither one of them moved on. Now that Josh is back, their feelings seem to still have a spark… but is that enough for a second chance?
As with any novella, pacing and timing seems to be key factors to making anything work and be a smooth experience for the reader. Becky manages this flawlessly. There is already a clear established relationship between the couple, which goes a long way in lending authenticity to the eventual ending. Speaking of those characters, I adored Josh and Holly. Most of our time is spent seeing things through Holly’s eyes (in that we’re mostly inside her point-of-view), but on the rare occasion we are among Josh’s thoughts. I found myself loving his character. He’s one of those guys who loved deeply, and right or wrong, he carried that around for eight years, only to have it resurface when he was again faced with the past. In other words, he’s one of the good guys. Holly, likewise, has a unique story; her backstory is one I’ve not seen before and her struggle to accept a second chance isn’t difficult to understand. Also a fun though rare appearance character is Holly’s best friend, Sam.
Sweetly imagined and poignant in unexpected places, Love in the Details is a next-to-perfect novella. If short stories are your guilty pleasure, then picking up a copy of this is a must. It’s inspirational, it’ll tug at your heart strings, and best of all, it’s romantic. One of my favorite things about the novel was Josh’s current status (much as I’d like to explain this, I won’t given the need to hold back on spoilers). Don’t miss reading this delightful charmer. It’s a detail you won’t wish to overlook adding to any of your fall reading lists.
Sincere thanks to NetGalley (and author) for a complimentary e-copy of this novella.
I was in the mood for a quick, light read and this was a perfect fit. I didn't bother reading the synopsis before starting, just dove right in! That's fun to do sometimes. This was a sweet lost-love story, you could really feel the emotions and chemistry and it was fun to see them rekindle those old feelings. It's understandable that they're both hesitant about getting hurt again, but I'm glad that didn't hold them back. Overall, a fun read with likable characters and a fun setting.
Content: Clean romance, no language or violence, mild-moderate religious content
I wanted something I could read quickly and got this in audiobook form through my local library on the Hoopla app. This is a contemporary second-chance-at-love story. I love when couples are brought together and get another chance, especially when the thing that broke them up was kind of out of their control.
Holly is the volunteer wedding coordinator at the church and her ex-boyfriend, Josh, is the groom's best man. Yep, they're going to be working together for the next couple of weeks while the wedding plans are finalized. They've each tried to move on in the years since Holly broke up with Josh, but neither is in a serious relationship and it seems the sparks are still there when they meet again.
This author is new to me but I'd heard good things about her books, and I liked this sweet romance about recapturing a lost love. I especially liked when Holly finally told Josh why she'd broken up with him. So many issues can be solved simply by communicating. This is a great book if you've only got a couple of hours since it's a novella. This is a clean romance.
She left him to save his future, but they’ve never gotten over each other.
When Josh returns to his hometown of Martinsburg, Texas, to help his best friend get married, he didn’t intend to run into church wedding coordinator—and ex-girlfriend—Holly. He can’t help but pine after the girl he never got over. Not a day's gone by since Josh parted from Holly that he hasn't thought about her. The pain of the past eight years has been too much to bear and he doesn't want to make himself vulnerable to her again. But the more time he spends with her, the harder it is to deny the love he still has for her.
Holly broke up with Josh years ago in an attempt to ensure his future success. But she loved him then and still loves him now. As she helps him plan his best friend’s wedding, she can’t help but feel horrible for the pain she caused him. And even though she longs to be with Josh, she's terrified of letting herself fall for him again.
Will Josh and Holly be able to keep things as they are when their true feelings threaten to surface at every turn? Or will they risk their hearts on the hope that God's timing really can be best?
My Review
This was a sweet novella about two high school sweethearts getting another chance at love. Josh and Holly had a deep connection and love for each other so when she broke up with him after high school, they both had a lot of pain and heartache to work through. I liked how they reconnect during the book - cautiously but without anger. They find out quickly that the spark is still there. Now they just have to convince themselves to let go of their fear and learn to trust again.
All in all it's a moving story with sweet romance and delightful touches of humor.

I jumped into Love in the Details not sure what to expect (as usual, I didn't read the book description). I was definitely pulled in right away wondering what was going to happen. Since it was a novella, I was able to find out pretty quickly and definitely enjoyed the journey.
Holly was easy to relate to for me since she is a writer and living in a small town. Both things I can identify with. I enjoyed seeing the side of her life that involved her writing, but also her routine's in the town. I would say her friend Sam was...interesting? I didn't agree with her advice to Holly most of the time, but Holly was strong enough to make her own decisions.
Josh, on the other hand, was a little harder to identify with. At times I was surprised by the motivation of some of his actions since we weren't able to get a look into how he made some of the decisions he did, but I understand time (and word count) is limited in a novella.
Overall, I enjoyed the story, though I would have liked to see more of Holly and Josh together on the page. What pulled me toward the end the most was the fact that they had more interaction and we could see the internal workings of their hearts. All those lovely things that make you swoon! That said, I still enjoyed the story a lot and could easily recommend it to lovers of romance and weddings.
This novella would be a perfect "take a break" read from the busyness of life.

Love in the Details was a super sweet read! I love books where the romance is a story of second chances and this one was so good! The book starts out with a letter that Holly wrote to Josh, but never sent, explaining why she broke up with him...and I feel that was a great way to let readers know their past relationship history.
The characters were great. I felt for them and hoped things would work out in the end. I loved the writing style and how it kept me engaged with the story. I also loved the message of God's timing.
All in all, a fantastic novella! It you enjoy short, sweet contemporary romances, be sure to check out Love in the Details. I can't wait for more of Becky Wade's books!

It's sometimes hit or miss for me in these Year of Weddings novellas but I knew that this one would be a hit (or at least I had high hopes!) because it was by Becky Wade and I love her. I knew I had to read this one.
Holly and Josh. Josh and Holly. In love but then she dumps him unexpectedly. He is angry, she is sad. Years later they cross paths again and the sparks are still there but so are the hurts. It's not a new idea for a book but I it felt fresh to me. The characters were real and driven by real emotions. I liked Holly and Josh. I liked their story and I liked the re-connection journey. It was a sweet romance.
My thanks to the publisher, Zondervan, for allowing me to read and review for them.
I said above that I just love Becky Wade. The Porter Family Series is one of my all time favorites! If you haven't read them yet, you should really check them out.
My thoughts: This was a good story. I had a hard time deciding between 4.5 and 5 stars. There was never a dull moment and the only flaw for me was it could have been longer. This was a great way to end the series. It seems like they always sandwich the okay stories in the middle, like tracks on an album with the best being near the beginning, middle, and end.
Recommend to others?: Sure. This is a quick delightful story with food.
The story was good but Josh is what made it so for me. I can relate to his intense personality, his honesty, and love that doesn't disappear even through the hurt.
This was another fun little story in the "Year of Weddings 2" series.
Holly broke up with Josh years ago. Not because she wanted to but because she had her reasons. Reasons he can never know about. And now he's back in town for his friend's wedding. Smart, successful, and everything she loves, Holly will try her best to keep him out of her heart once again. After all, he's only here temporarily and he still doesn't know what moved her to breaking his heart all those years ago.
This is a clean romance that is a quick read and recommended for all readers.
When he graduated from high school, Josh was off to MIT. He left behind his first love, Holly. Holly has gone on to college but when Josh starts thinking of returning to Texas, his mother pays a visit to Holly and they decide the best thing for Josh would be for Holly to break up with him.
Eight years later, Josh has gone far. He's become very successful in his business. Now he's returning to Texas for his best friends wedding. What's he to do when he runs into Holly, the girl he's never been able to forget?
Holly has also become successful. She's made it to the New York best seller list, (okay, the bottom of the list, but on the list none the less!) She still lives in their small Texas town with a soft spot for helping people and faith that God will continue to guide her path. Has God opened a way for her to find closure with Josh? Or could He possibly have more planned for her? For them?
The story was amazing. Becky Wade did a wonderful job covering the back story, along with moving the story forward. As with all Becky's books I was sad to see it come to an end, but still left totally satisfied! Becky brought her usual talent of creating heart-racing romance between people we can all relate to, a hand full of fun characters, and even some humor. The gummi bear incident made me chuckle. Of course I might not have chuckled had it happened to me....
If you haven't read Becky's other books, I highly recommend them. Some of my favorites that I eagerly await each year.
Bringing Becky on board for this series was a winning choice. I received an ARC for my honest review, which I gladly give 5 stars for Becky Wade AND Love in the Details!!!
This was such a great story! I loved the small town setting and I connected with these characters very easily. There is humor and fun in the novella, but also a lot of soul searching on each side.
Josh still doesn’t understand how things could have fallen apart so many years ago. He’s had a bruised heart for many years and struggles with anger. I really felt for him and thought that he was a very interesting character.
I liked Holly so much! It broke her heart to end the relationship with Josh and although she feels that it was for a good reason, she has carried the pain around with her for all of these years.
This novella reminds me (just a little bit) of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. In that novel, Anne Elliot ends the relationship with Captain Wentworth because she is persuaded that he is not worthy of her station, yet she never stops loving him. In Love in the Details, Holly is persuaded by Josh’s mother to end the engagement, for his own good. There are other wonderful little similarities, yet Love in the Details is definitely its own creation and a novella that I highly recommend. I just like seeing the hint of Persuasion in the story line, as that is one of my all time favorite novels.
I have enjoyed many of the Year of Weddings novellas. Love in the Details is definitely one of my favorites.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through BookLook Bloggers in exchange for an honest review.
This book was short, but both slightly sweet and slightly confusing. The author does a very good job of connecting the reader to the characters enough that they can feel the emotions right along with the characters.
Holly is quite the self sacrificing type, but she also really didn't stand up for herself to keep her relationship with Josh. Likewise, Josh didn't fight for his relationship with Holly, nor did he confront her about her reasons for breaking up with him in college. The book was filled with a good bit of passive aggressive avoidance.
The way it was all explained was that God was keeping them apart so that they could mature and their love could deepen, but it seemed too easy of a reason for their separation. The religious aspect of the book was limited in scope, but became the basis for the characters actions, which some may find objectionable.
All in all, it was a good read, but not one of the more engaging in the series.
I have loved Becky Wade’s books since I picked up her very first, My Stubborn Heart, and I haven’t missed one since. Now Becky has written a novella. And she has done a mighty fine job, too. Holly broke up with Josh years ago, not really wanting to, but thinking it would be best for him. Now Josh is back in town for the wedding of friends and Holly is discovering how much she wished she’d not let him go.
Becky Wade rocks Christian romance without going too far, but what I admire most about her writing is this: she is not afraid to share the message of Christ! Her books all contain a very powerful spiritual lesson. That is tops for me. Don’t miss this one.
*I was given a copy of this book by the author. I was not encouraged to leave a positive review and my thoughts are honest and my own.
I really didn't feel like reading a lot today so I picked up Becky Wade Novella Love in the Details. I thought the story was a good short read. There isn't much of a plot to it and because the book is short you don't develop much feeling for the characters. If you are looking for a book to have a short relaxing read, this book is for you. I gave it 3 stars because I listen to it on audiobook and the narrator was horrible. I felt as if a computer was reading it to me. I'm sure if you choose the book you will enjoy it so much better.
I love all of Becky Wade's books & this was no exception. I'm amazed at how she was able to pull me into the main character's emotions & situation so quickly. I believe this will be published with a few other novellas in hard copy. That book would make a great gift or stocking-stuffer. Such a charming story!
