Churchill & Pemberley #10

Death in the Deep End (Churchill and Pemberley Cosy Murder Mystery Book 10)

The new lido is making a splash - for all the wrong reasons.

The villagers of Compton Poppleford are in a buoyant mood when the new lido opens. It’s a chance to enjoy the sunshine, relax by the pool and pose in hand-knitted bathing suits. But excitement turns to horror when a corpse is found floating in the lido one evening.

Who’s the murderer? Churchill and Pemberley dive into the investigation with their trusty dog companion, Oswald. As secrets and rivalries rise to the surface, the case gets complicated. An old foe causes problems for Churchill and the victim’s widower seems determined to win her affections.

There’s a steady flow of clues but the local constabulary isn’t happy with the elderly sleuths’ involvement. Can Churchill and Pemberley uncover the truth before the trail goes cold? Or will their investigation sink without trace?

As always happens with this series, this is such a great, funny story!

These ladies are amazing sleuths, even when one of them refuses to acknowledge she can't swim *dies laughing*

I love them both; I love how they go about solving mysteries, I love how they might appear clueless and still, as most of the ladies of some age, what they are doing is let you stumble upon your own bias (what I call 'The Big Columbo").

The mystery is great, the plot fantastically crafted, and the whole story a joy to read. In short, your usual Churchill and Pemberley story *g*

Wholeheartedly recommended.

Wonderful mystery

Another fun murder mystery with Churchill and Pemberley. These are always the neatest reads and I so enjoy them. A little more humor would have been good but it was a satisfying book.

Another great Churchill and Pemberly English Village Cozy Mystery

I started to relax and laugh as soon as I began reading the latest book in the series, Death in the Deep End, by Emily Organ.

The escapades of Annabel Churchill and Doris Pemberly are so much fun. They may seem bumbling and quaint but they manage to shame Inspector Mappin with their superior detective skills.

I love the characters in these books and the multitude of cups of tea and luscious cakes they consume as they brainstorm about a murder. Laugh along as Churchill goes to great lengths as she refuses to admit she cannot swim.

There is a mystery to solve: A lady has died in the new Compton Poppelford Lido swimming pool with a knife in her back. We know that Churchill and her trusty sidekick Pembers will solve the crime with the help of Oswald, their detective dog.

The whole series is thoroughly enjoyable. I suggest you read them all.

Book 10 of the Churchill and Pemberley series has our two intrepid senior detectives attending the grand opening of the local swimming pool. But tragedy strikes when a body is later found stabbed and floating in the pool.

The author has once again given us an amusing and cleverly plotted mystery, complete with lots of tea and cake. I love all the characters with their funny names and how Mrs Churchill always gets herself into questionable situations. Miss Pemberley and her dog Oswald contribute to the solving of the mystery.

I highly recommend this incredibly enjoyable series. But you can start with any of them and not be lost.

Thanks to Emily Organ for allowing me to pre-read this book.

Favorite Miss Pemperley line:
"I don't like restaurants. You have to sit there for ages waiting for your food and when it arrives you discover you don't like it."

The Churchill and Pemberley series by this author is by far my least favourite she has written. I extremely dislike the character of Mrs Churchill and this book just reinforced that dislike. She is boorish, childish and refuses to admit when she is wrong. That can be a real annoyance to what is otherwise a good murder mystery.
Miss Pemberley is my favourite character. She is the smartest and loves her dog Oswald. If she wasn’t in the book I fear this series truly would be awful. Another unlikable character, who’s only gotten worse as the series has gone on, is Mrs Thonnings. She is a man-hungry annoyance who often pops into the wrong time to eat Mrs Churchill’s precious cakes. Far too much is spent on the description of the cakes she enjoys so much. That said I truly did not guess who the murderer is in this book until they were revealed. The peppering of clues that became red herrings were also very misleading serving their purpose well.
As much as I dislike the main character I know I will continue to read the series more so for my love of the authors previous work than anything else.

The Churchill and Pemberley Cozy Mysteries never disappoint me. I just missed new books on the series that as soon as this was released I just rushed to enjoy it. So so endearing, true joy, witty dialogues, so so cozy. The "knitting kits" idea was so original and kept many ladies knitting. I guess Oswald got a promotion as he was allowed a more active role in solving this mystery. I discovered the cozy-mysteries-genre with this series. I was so delighted that I started to read a lot of cozy mysteries, but Mrs Churchill, Miss Pemberley are so unique, my very favourites and so far from the others. Being so naive and witty, genuine, big smiles are guaranteed all over the way. I may start re-reading them, so enjoyable they are!

These stories are so enjoyable for me. The characters are so fun and make me laugh out loud when they're trying to be so serious. The story lines are always intriguing and I haven't yet been able to guess "who dunnit". Cannot wait til the next adventure with these great characters!
