Leeland Jeffers is a contented single man with a thriving career in Atlanta. He’s had a few unsuccessful relationships over the years, but no one has even come close to his first love, Harrison Rhinehart. They met in college when a mutual friend, Suzie Garrison, introduced Harry into their close-knit group. When the supposedly “straight” Harry made a move on Lee, the two men entered into a tumultuous secret love affair. In their senior year, the relationship finally ended when Harry informed Lee he was marrying Suzie. Since graduation, the college friends have drifted apart. However, an unexpected invitation to a destination wedding seems set to reunite them all. Lee’s speculation on whether Harry and Suzie will make an appearance threatens to derail his attendance. But Lee decides the hell with it and makes plans to go, Harry Rhinehart or no Harry Rhinehart.

Scotty Cade left Corporate America and twenty-five years of Marketing and Public Relations behind to buy an Inn & Restaurant on the island of Martha’s Vineyard with his partner of over twenty years. He started writing stories as soon as he could read, but just five years ago for publication. When not at the Inn, you can find him on the bow of his boat writing gay romance novels with his Shetland sheepdog Mavis at his side. Being from the south and a lover of commitment and fidelity, most of his characters find their way to long healthy relationships, however long it takes them to get there. He believes that in the end, the boy should always get the boy.

“We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.” ― Sam Keen, To Love and Be Loved

This is basically a reunion story, with enough angst, drama, and sarcasm to keep me in suspense about the outcome. The main characters are both as flawed as they come, and if you’re looking for a traditional romance, this is not it. Instead, Scotty Cade presents a cast of characters who would be at home in any soap opera, and gives Lee and Harry a second chance at love. And boy, do they need it! Both have made - and are still making - some stupid mistakes. The humorous tone makes it funny, and while most of the story is told by Lee, Harry does have the occasional opportunity to add his perspective.

Lee is a player. He is single and happy about it, taking opportunities to hook up with attractive men whenever he can find them. But there is one who got away, and Lee doesn’t realize how deeply he is still in love with him until he runs into Harry again. Not that this stops Lee from having yet another tryst, but it does bring back memories of a time when he thought monogamy was a good idea. Meeting up with him now, in a mini-college reunion with his closest friends, brings back all kinds of memory. Lee is still too hurt to be honest with himself at first – but the truth will come out, painful step by painful step.

The writing style and Lee's snarky remarks really pulled me in. The secondary characters are also great, and even though there are many, they are individuals and memorable enough not to be confusing. Some of them are important catalysts for Lee and Harry to get back together again, and some have played key roles in the past. All of them are very supportive, and made this book come alive.

If you like realistic stories about flawed people, if you want a “reunion with obstacles”, and if you’re looking for a read that is funny to the point of being sarcastic, and a love story that is not a romance, yet very hot, then you might like this novella.

OK,first of all, this is not your typical romance...from the blurb, you expect some emotional reunion, surely some groveling from Harry ('cause after all he hurt Lee,and pretty bad too),some reluctance on Lee's side ('cause he can't give in that easily, right?),them making it work, and HEA of course.

Well, stop right there because you won't be getting this... what you will get is two men who still love each other - one who is deeply sorry for the past and who carries huge amount of guilt, and the other one who knows that no matter how much he tries,he can't forget the love they shared, nor erase it from his heart. So,there is no huge gesture of love,no begging for forgiveness...and you know, that's OK,because some people work that way (in a real life). To me "sorry" doesn't mean a thing after the deed is done. But if from now on that someone genuinely tries to be better,to not make same mistakes...that's what's important, right? But you can't know if he will...you can only give someone a chance and hope that it was worth it. And before you ask...it was - Harry and Lee get their well-deserved HEA.

BUT...to me the highlight of this book were not Harry&Lee,but reunion of old friends, who were once inseparable, but who choose different directions in life. Dynamics between them, their antics, their sometimes politically incorrect (but nevertheless hilarious) comments were why I enjoyed this story. And maybe I didn't get the romance I was looking for,but in the end I think I got something even better...

Lee Jeffers just recieved an invitation to a wedding for his close friends, Sara-Grace and Derek. He knows immediately that he’s going to attend, but there is one thing stopping him from getting too excited. The fact that he will have to once again face his ex, Harry.

Harry Rhinehart has always known what a huge mistake he made all those years ago. He truly loved Lee, but was denying who he was, and thought he was making the right choice at the time. Now, things are different, and he is determined to get Lee back. He want’s another chance to make things right, and he won’t leave till he gets back the one thing, he threw away.

For a short story, I thought it included everything that needed to be seen, and nothing felt left out. The characters were fun to read, and I laughed quite a bit. I did feel that Lee forgave Harry a bit too quickly, but this was a short story, so you have to move things along. I really enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, fast and low angst read.

I didn’t realize this wasn’t a full length book when I started reading it. I was getting into the story, the characters seemed like people I could actually be friends with in real life too. I love when books deal with men and them never getting over their first love, it just seems so sweet to me. Lee never got over Harry and over the years they have been forced together for a few special occasions with their group of friends. This time is no different, so we think. I was really hoping for more. It seemed like as soon as Harry got to the wedding destination that the book was over. I mean yeah there was a few hot scenes but man, the book just ended so fast and to easily. It could have been so much better if the book was longer.

I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

While I can't say that I fell in love with either Harry or Lee, I did enjoy following their situation. The resolution was a little quick, but not unexpectedly so. Most of the story is focused on Lee's pain and Harry's guilt. Once they both let that go, they are in love and ready to ride off in the sunset. Some people will not appreciate the pace of this story. It didn't bother me because it fit with the style of the rest of the story.

I'm a bit disappointed because what seem at first a big story then finished too soon and maybe in naive way. Maybe because I'm not the forgive and forget type , not immediately anyway, but for me, Lee made it too easy for Harry and then the last chapter is already a epilog. Though I have very appreciated the sentiment of loyalty and true commit in the marriage put in every book by Mr Cade

Wow, the jokes between friends to show comraderie are MEAN. This didn't work for me. Admittedly, this author and I often don't fit, but this time it was bad. Meanness aside, the scenario and how it played out were crazy. Last complaint: in what universe would a bride change her rehearsal dinner to celebrate someone else? logistics alone would make this ludicrous. why do it in a novel?
