Disappointed that I only found out after I started this series that book 2 isn't the last book and I only found that from a fan in a comment section on the author's Instagram. Book 2 was first released in 2022, from what I could find. So it's been 4 years and there's still no ending or next book.

To the book though, I didn't enjoy it as much as book 1. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. Dark romances always have a lot of drama and messiness, and that's great, it's exciting, but at some point there needs to be character growth. The MMCs need to mature, stop being so controlling, and recognize that their insane actions have harmed the FMC. That didn't happen here. They all act the same, heck, they're worse and the FMC is a hop, skip, and a jump from needing to commit herself to a psychiatric hospital because of what they've put her through. It's just the merry-go-round from hell....the MMCs keep doing the same things.

Not much happened here other than the birth of a child. There are still tons of questions and things left unanswered. For instance, what's in Roselyn's Memoir that the FMC has been reading? Is there a supernatural reason that all these Donovan men become so obsessed and enamored with the FMC? Who hired people to kill the FMC?

Actually kinda wish this was longer because I read it way too fast and just spent 3 days on the last 10% because I didn’t want it to end. At least compared to book 1 being almost 800 pages this felt short lol.

Super excited for book 3’s release (in the next week? 👀!!!

What a rollercoaster! This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster. Not only do we get to see the spiral of Deja’s mental health and continue To yell at her to make better Decisions, but we get to see the complexities of her behinds for The Donovan brothers and Caleb. Of course there’s more blood and death-There are Donovans involved after all- but we see so much of her internal conflict driven by her reading about and relating to Rosalyn, and how that affects her thought process. Bloody, smutty, and absolutely unhinged, this second installment is an even wilder ride as the stakes get higher and we see how in trying to disengage from the Donovan’s, Deja only gets more entangled. I love that we got to see glimpses of the horrible childhood the Donovans and Caleb endured, what shaped and molded their behaviors and worldview and how that upbringing was reinforced by cult teachings. I liked Keith even more in this book, because as is common with characters that present as flippant and irreverent, they’re always using their attitude to hide something tender beneath. Smauggy did a great job bringing the Donovans back into the forefront without leaving Caleb forgotten, and all of them have distinct personalities that don’t blend together. I am even more Curious to see how we ended up at “Surviving the Donovans” and what lead to it. This series is my first time hearing about or reading this author and I’m certain this is some of her best work.

Die & stay dead. No but seriously if the author tries to come out in later books of this series talking about some supernatural freak shit that allows them to stay alive despite fatal wounds, im gonna be pissed.

I’m hooked

I’m starting to be less and less annoyed with Deja now that she’s finally….slowly, growing a pair and realizing SHE is the one with all the power. I know there’s hella books in this series and trying to figure out where it’s going is fun. I’m enjoying the ride with all these murderous dudes Deja’s collecting like Pokémon

addicted

I am hooked on all of these characters, and this book delves deeper into their pasts and into why they are the way they are—I wish this didn't end so soon, and I'm looking forward to the next book.

Wasn’t in love with the first half but the second half redeemed itself. 💗 At first I was annoyed with her but now I’m happy to see she is starting to realize the power she holds.
