I love Bob's Burgers, but although this graphic novel was funny it wasn't like reading a new episode of the show. It's formatted so every issue starts with "Tina's Erotic Friend Fiction Presents," then we get Bob's "Burger of the Day Ideas," "Louise's Unsolved Mysteries and Curious Curiosities," "Letters from Linda," and finally "Gene Belcher Presents" closes things out. It's an interesting format, and the kids' portions are the most satisfying so it was a good idea to space them out.
Tina's Erotic Friend Fiction was my absolute favorite part of each issue. I mean, come on:
Each story of hers features horse, butts, Jimmy Jr., and various fan-fiction tropes used hilariously. They're marvelous.
I didn't really care for Linda's or Bob's parts, although they're only a page so it's not like I had to slog through them. The raccoons from one of Linda's letters showing up later in a different story were hilarious though.
Louise is my favorite character, for obvious reasons.
Her and Gene's stories were kind of all over the place though. Louise's stories would've benefited more by having an issue all to herself. They're the most like the show out of the five sections. And I understand that Gene likes music but I didn't like how his parts were all told in song and rhyme. It got annoying after a while. I would've liked it if he just had normal stories since the other two kids' were so over-the-top.
If you're a fan of the show I think you'll like this book. I'm not so sure about non-fans or people who've never seen the show though. I think I enjoyed this graphic novel more because I could hear each character's voice while I read so if you're not familiar with this family you might get the same level of enjoyment that I did.

I'm in the camp of people that believe Bob's Burgers is the best television show of all time, so I have no reason or excuse for why it took me so long to check this out. While I did enjoy it, I wish it was more episodic and maybe contained one of the individual sections between each issue? I don't know I'm still trying to get past my expectations of what this was going to be.
I loved reading Tina's "Erotic Friend Fiction" so much and would've been happy if that was all that was in here. Each story was fun to read and I couldn't wait for the next one. Linda's letters were also really enjoyable to read, even though I do not see her sitting down and actually writing all of those letters

Not quite up to the standards of the show. The comic is divided into sections with each member of the family getting a section. Tina and Louise have the best stories, as they are more traditional comic stories. Bob just has a page showing names of the silly special burgers he makes up, and Linda's page is a letter she has sent to either a magazine, website, or friend. Gene's story is always a musical, and the rhyme scheme just didn't do it for me. I will say the art is interesting as it closely resembles the animation of the tv show.
If you are a die hard fan of the show, then you'll probably enjoy the comic just for the novelty. If you aren't a fan of the show, or just a casual fan, this one probably isnt for you.

I am a huge fan of the TV show so when I saw this comic on Netgalley, I knew I needed it in my life. I don't know where to begin though! I don’t know where to commence my fangirling of this wonderful work of art that manages to bring one of my favorite tv shows to life on paper.
I loved seeing Tina, Louise, Bob, Gene and Linda in a different setting but I also loved seeing aspects of their characteristics emphasized.
I wouldn’t say that this isn’t your typical comic because I don’t read enough comics to make that statement (read-I don’t read comics unless we’re talking about those strips that appear in newspapers) but I love that this isn’t just about showing more Bob's Burgers in a different format.
We have Linda’s letters to people (where she talks about her geniusness and tries to sell her ideas), we have Bob’s burger of the day, we have Tina’s friend fictions, we have Gene’s musicals and we have Louise’s mysteries and all of these separate sections dedicated to each of the characters makes me fall in love all over again.
I can see Linda writing those letters to people, and I can imagine them reading it and cracking up and throwing them away. I can see Bob trying so hard to come up with a burger of the day. It’s just so much fun to experience my favorite characters through another medium.
I think these comics are amazing and are just a fantastic way of showcasing our beloved characters from our favorite TV Show and you know, if you haven’t seen the show, YOU NEEDS TO.

I still haven't seen the show, my apologies, but I read the first issue of Bob's Burgers some time ago when it came with one of the Humble Bundles. Since I quite liked the first one, I thought why not read the rest of volume 1 as well.
Every issue is divided in five parts, one for every family member. They include various takes on fanfiction, an unsolved mystery and a musical as well as my personal favourites: Burger Ideas and 'useful' inventions. Because these are all cramped into each issue, all the stories end up being very short, but entertaining none the less.
I can't compare it to the series, but I do plan to watch it some time.

I really love Bob's Burgers but I'm not sure it works in comic book form. Each issue has a short story focusing on each of the kids as well as a letter Linda is writing to someone and a list of some of Bob's ideas for burgers of the day so it's kind of like the episodes on the show where each of the kids tells a story in one episode. I think a lot of the humor in the show comes from the line delivery from the voice actors, which doesn't always come through in the comic. Still, it's a nice supplement while waiting for new episodes.

While not as good as the actual tv show, this graphic novel manages to capture of the feel of Bob`s Burger with it`s eccentric humour and quirky characters. The best sections were definitely Tina`s Erotic Friend Fiction.

I’m a big Bob’s Burgers fan so no surprise this is making an appearance on my blog. Although it’s not totally what I was expecting.
I don’t know if it was because this was a review copy or what but the quality of the pages was fairly low, to the point where I could barely read some of the dialogue in the smaller panels. I hope this isn’t the case in the final version because it was definitely hard for me to focus on the digital comic for any extended amount of time without squinting.
The stories themselves are all pretty spot-on to the show. Tina’s Erotic Friend Fiction reads exactly how you’d think one of her stories would read. Reading Linda’s letters I could definitely hear her nasally voice blaring in my head. I felt those were the most accurate to the character. And Bob’s burger trials, where he’s listing out themed names of burgers were pretty amusing. Louise’s mysteries start off with typical Louise drama and then taper off when it turns out something isn’t so crazy after all. Gene’s are my least favorite. Not surprising since he’s my least favorite character on the show. I just find him grating and his show tunes comics just got old for me.
What was common with the kids’ stories (because they were the only ones with actual stories) were that they all ended rather abruptly. I don’t notice that in the show. The comic has a lot of build up and then each story ends with a fizzle. Rather anti-climatic in that regard.
As far as the art it’s close but it’s just this side of off. I feel like I’m looking at unpolished drawings of the Belchers and their world. At first I thought the weirdness was to just get creative in the cover art pages but nope. They’re not quite right throughout and it threw me off a little.
It’s an okay comic. I think I was expecting to be a little more than what it was but I wasn’t disappointed by it. I don’t think I’m going to run out and buy it any time soon, though.

An easy, funny comic to get through with a short story structure of non-related tales that are often spoofs of well known books or movies.
Each character gets their own story, Bob's inventive menu items show up now and again, as do Linda's letters.
These are easy to read and don't require a lot of commitment to a serious storyline, so check these out when you're in the mood for something light!

I found this second collection funnier than the first one about my favourite burger stand on the Jersey shore. It is still not as good as the associated animated series but nonetheless, Bob and his family provide hilarity at every turn of a page.

I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I'm a fan of the show, but not as huge of a fan as most people who watch it. I enjoy watching it from time to time, but I don't like to binge watch it.
This graphic novel was a perfect fit for me, it's the humor of the show but in short and quick segments.
The only negative I have is that there are 5 issues bundled into this 1 volume and each issue follows the same format (Tina fan fiction, letters from Linda, Gene musicals etc.) so it does start to feel repetitive towards the end. However, every individual story felt very unique!
I think fans of this show will appreciate a condensed version of what they already love, but I also think if you haven't seen the show you might want to check it out. It really reminded me of Nimona by Noelle Stevenson!

Ennnnhhhhhhhhh.
I am like grateful that Bob's Burgers exists on a daily basis. It is my go-to when I hate everything or am angry or anxious. It is the perfect cure for a case of the Sunday evenings.
I'd been meaning to pick up the Bob's Burgers comics since I got a special sample issue on Free Comic Book Day a couple of years ago. This first volume did not disappoint. The writing is as good as the show and the voices of the characters are captured beautifully. I especially loved the recurring "Tina's Erotic Friend Fiction", "Letters from Linda", and "Louise's Unsolved Mysteries and Curious Curiosities". Perfect for filling the void when waiting for new episodes.

I absolutely love Bob's Burgers. It's one of my favorite television shows and it never fails to make me laugh. I love the characters and the shenanigans they get up to, and so when I came across this graphic novel I had to have it. Overall, it was worth a read and was pretty funny.
I liked the way that the stories in this volume were divided. Each character got their own section. Louis had a crime/mystery type story in each comic book. Gene's were done as a musical. Tina's parts were done as fan/friend fiction. Bob's involved picking out the burger of the day, and Linda's were wine-filled letters to random people and companies. I like that each character was given a chance to shine.
The artwork was very similar to the artwork that's on the cartoon series, but it was just different enough to bug me a bit. It wasn't awful or anything, but it was just a bit less crisp and focused as I was expecting. Sometimes it was a bit hard to read the text, but it didn't bother me too much.
The humor was pretty much on par with that of the show, and I chuckled a bit while reading it. However, part of that humor is lost while reading it. Part of what makes it so hilarious, for me anyway, is hearing the voice actor's inflections and how they bring the character to life. While I could try my best to conjure up their voices and energy, it's just not the same. I'd rather watch the show than read it.
This isn't a bad book by any means, but it just wasn't something I loved. The artwork and humor are solid enough, and I think that die-hard fans of the animated series Bob's Burgers will enjoy reading this volume.

I love Bob's Burgers. I love graphic novels and comics. So this should have been a match made in heaven, right? Er... no, actually.
See, some things are better in their original form. Bob's Burgers is one of these things. The writing is top-notch, plus the comedic timing is spot on. You can't get that comedic timing in a graphic novel. Plus, there were a bunch of "Gene's Musicals" where the text was set to music. It would have been better if I could have heard the music too, which of course can't happen in a graphic novel.
The comics still retained the quirky nature of the show, but it's just better in its original format.
BTW - if you haven't tried the Bob's Burgers Burger Book: Real Recipes for Joke Burgers - GO GET IT. My family has tried many of the recipes and have enjoyed a majority of them. Totally worth it. Unlike this one. (Sorry, Bob. I still love you and your wacky family!)

I am a recent Bob's Burger's convert. Even though an I am early in my fandom, it is apparent that the volume epitomizes the essence of this hilarious, hit television show. Highlights for me where the specific character segments. I adore Bob's burger menus and have to say I would be down to try just about any of them. Louise is quickly become my favorite character but I enjoyed Tina, Gene, and Linda's moments in each issue as well.
The illustrations are just stellar and will entice general humor and graphic novel readers and most certainly Bob's Burger fans.
I look forward to future volumes!

There has been a lot of comic spin offs lately of popular animated shows and the majority of them were quite disappointing. This obviously wasn’t. The Belcher’s perfectly translated from tv to print. The trademark humour and family dynamic is still there and most of the time i kept reading it in the character’s voices.
It’s been a while since i enjoyed reading a comic and now I can’t wait for more people to read this so we can get more issues.
(This will be more enjoyed if you’ve watched Bob’s Burgers before but either way it’s guaranteed to give you a laugh or two. Franken-Butt is definitely a favourite.)

If you are a fan of Bob’s Burgers you will probably enjoy this comic. Instead of the plot being like another episode in the series you get mini comics from each of the characters. Every issue goes in this order, 1) Tina’s Erotic Friend Fiction, 2) Bob’s Burger of the Day Ideas, 3) Louise’s Unsolved Mysteries and Curious Curiosities, 4) Letters from Linda, and 5) Gene Belcher Presents (musicals). Each of these mini comics is true to the characters which is great. Tina and Louise’s stories are the best part of each issue. The comic series is light-hearted just like the show which is why I loved it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I was not a big fan of Linda's sections.

These remind me some of Ryan North's Adventure Time comics as solid introductions to the medium of comics to fans of their respective shows/kids, telling inventive stories that normally wouldn't/couldn't be told on TV, fitted specifically for comics. They're not always my favorite comics out there, but perfect as what they are.

The show's better. I'm sure if I was reading this issue to issue I'd enjoy it, but as a collected volume, it was extremely repetitive in format

Bob's Burgers is a show I put on in the background and only occasionally pay attention to, but I do generally enjoy the episodes I actually watch. This collection of comics in the same universe felt similar: some were enjoyable and worth full attention, but others begged to be relegated to background - only for my brain to be confused because that's not how reading works.
Gene's stories were boring bordering on super cringey, because musical numbers are not intended for the written (or drawn) format and the rhyme schemes were far worse than I recall in any musical numbers from the show. Linda's letters were fairly in-character but also uninteresting. As bits on the show, her quirky ideas and asides work, but as solo pieces... nah. I skipped most of Bob's attempts at making pop culture references from burger names, because those were as lame as they're portrayed in the show - only in this case, there was nobody sitting around to tell him they were lame. So there's a giant chunk of this compilation (3/5 of each issue's character inclusions, 1/3 of each issue's proper stories) relegated to the 'thanks, I hate it' pile as-is. That means I didn't enjoy much of the compilation.
Tina's 'friend fiction' was every bit of the silliness I'd have expected and quite amusing, though. And Louise's wild conspiracy theories were entertaining enough to keep me reading when I considered returning this to the library immediately after the first 'musical' story. They just aren't enough to convince me that this deserves more than two stars.
Factoring in formatting issues (some text on smaller panels is very difficult to read, even when using the 'zoom in' feature that shows one panel per screen) and the fact all the charm of comedic timing and silly voices are lost, robbing this format of several aspects which make Bob's Burgers so good... Well, let's just say I'm being generous not rating it one star. And even then, I'm only doing so because I suspect maybe I'm just not the target demographic since I'm not a fan of the material and only watch casually on occasion.

Tina's 'friend fiction' was every bit of the silliness I'd have expected and quite amusing, though. And Louise's wild conspiracy theories were entertaining enough to keep me reading when I considered returning this to the library immediately after the first 'musical' story. They just aren't enough to convince me that this deserves more than two stars.
Factoring in formatting issues (some text on smaller panels is very difficult to read, even when using the 'zoom in' feature that shows one panel per screen) and the fact all the charm of comedic timing and silly voices are lost, robbing this format of several aspects which make Bob's Burgers so good... Well, let's just say I'm being generous not rating it one star. And even then, I'm only doing so because I suspect maybe I'm just not the target demographic since I'm not a fan of the material and only watch casually on occasion.

I've never watched the cartoon itself, so I was intrigued about it because people kept sharing their love for the animated series. I thought I'd try the graphic novel version first, since it was written by the very people involved in the series.
I found the stories okay, pretty funny. Each story featured each of the siblings and their specific traits: Tina and her wild fantasies, Loiuse and her crazy curiosities, Gene and his rhymed "musicals". The parents, however got one-page features: Linda's were the letters she sent to various places to suggest some unique ideas, and Bob's were his burger ideas. I mostly enjoyed Bob's burger notes and Gene's rhymes.

As a fan of the show, I found this 5-volume comics collection absolutely delightful. Linda's letters to various companies are funny; they reminded me of an old favorite book, Idiot Letters. To be honest, though, my favorite sections were the "Tina Belcher's Erotic Friend Fiction Presents" ones. On the cartoon series, I'm a big fan of Louise and Gene, but the written versions of Gene and Louise's adventures just weren't quite as fun as Tina's.
