Roommates Trilogy #1-3

Freshman Roommates

Rate this book
The Freshman Roommates Trilogy from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Mara Jacobs. Three complete novels. IN TOO DEEP (Lily and Lucas): I didn’t believe in love at first sight, until I first saw Lucas Kade. I was giving swimming lessons to children when I first saw him. Turns out one of the kids was Lucas’s little brother. So, I’d be seeing a lot more of Lucas. And that was just fine with me. I had a lot going on—a freshman at an elite college, first time away from home, and, oh yeah, roommates with a girl I’d been sent to spy on. I wasn’t exactly looking for anything exclusive. Something casual, though, would be great. But there was nothing casual about my feelings for Lucas. He was a townie, hiding a secret, and I knew better than to get involved. I was always the sensible one, the peacekeeper. Before I knew it…I was In Too Deep. IN TOO FAST (Jane and Stick): I spent my whole life trying to be in the driver’s seat. Then I got behind the wheel. I was the baby that brought down the President. But I'd put that all behind me and was living a mostly normal existence as a freshman at small, exclusive Bribury College. And then I got a car. Not just any car, but one I didn't know how to drive. And it was delivered by the guy I least wanted to see. He offered to give me driving lessons. Yeah, like I wanted to spend time alone with him in the confines of a tiny sports car. Except, I kind of did. My past caught up with me, and we were both thrown into a world we didn't want or need. He ended up surprising me. And then I really surprised myself. I knew it the moment I was handed the keys…I was In Too Fast. IN TOO HARD (Syd and Montrose): I was in love with Billy Montrose for five years. And then I met him. I wasn’t the typical freshman at exclusive Bribury College. Getting in on a scholarship, and coming from a rough neighborhood that I’d happily left behind, I’d even been called a poser by my fellow students. But I was determined to fit in, to be just like all the other girls. But that wasn’t what he wanted. He singled me out because of the papers I’d written for his class. He offered me a job transcribing his notes for his newest novel. He never knew that he had saved my life years ago. I was in heaven just being a part of his process, being near him. And then I became more than just his assistant. I knew it could never work between us. I wanted to walk away, but I was…In Too Hard. These New Adult romances contains 3-4 graphic love scenes. If they were movies, they would be rated R.

Overall I liked these books and thought they were well written, the characters were believable even if the situations were unlikely, but I intensely disliked everything about Billy the hero of the last book. He was totally self centred had no redeeming qualities and if I knew anyone seeing a similar character my advice would be to run away and not look back. He was very convincing as a character perhaps the most convincing of all the characters but I bled for Syd because he is the tortured genius so it will always be about him and her dreams, needs and pleasures will always be a poor second.

IN TOO DEEP (Lily and Lucas):
"I didn't believe in love at first sight, until I first saw Lucas Kade." - Lily

"I think I just fell a little bit in love with you." I was already more than a little bit in love with Lucas Kade. - Lily

"I didn't believe in second chances. And then I took a chance on Lily Spaulding." - Lucas

"I need to tell you something."
"Yes?"
"I love you, Lily Spaulding. I have no idea what my future holds. Hell, I'm not even sure what the next month holds. But I am deeply...deeply...in love with you."
"Lucas, I love you too."
"You do? Because you don't to say it just because-"
"Shhh, I mean it. I love you."
"Lily, you're the best second chance anyone ever got. I can't believe you love me too."
"Lucas, I've loved you from the moment I saw you."

IN TOO FAST (Jane and Stick):
"I spent my whole life trying to be in the driver's seat. And then I got behind the wheel." - Jane

"Well, I had to give Stick one thing - asshole or not the guy could make an exit." - Jane

"I ruled the road. And then I was sideswiped by Jane." - Stick

"Who are you, Jane Winters?"
"That's easy, Patrick Dooley (Sticks' real name). I'm your girlfriend."

"You can be such an asshat."
"Yeah, but I'm your asshat."
"And don't you forget it."

IN TOO HARD (Syd and Montrose):
"I was in love with Billy Montrose for five years. And then I met him." - Syd

"I saw a lot of Chinese delivery in our future. I guess it should have added an element of excitement to the idea that Montrose and I were...going to be Montrose and I, and what all that entailed. The taboo of it all, the secrecy. But honestly, I didn't need the added thrill. I was quite thrilled enough that I would be able to spend a semester in the company of Billy Montrose. And his kisses." - Syd

"I was lost in self-pity and doubt for five years. And then she found me." - Montrose

"A special thank you to Sydney O'Brien, who worked as my assistant on this book. She offered great feedback, advice, ideas and the occasional kick in the ass when needed. This book would not have been written without her. She certainly earned the right to have the Down in Flames protagonist named in her honor."

"You named you main character after me. You're staying at Bribury. And you've got me back in your arms. What more could you possibly have to tell me?"
"I love you, Syd."
"I love you too, Billy."
"I'm a writer, I probably should have come up with something original than just
'I love you, Syd' right?"
"Don't mess with the classics."
