A beautifully told story about ingenuity and friendship from a wonderful new author-illustrator talent
Ollie and the Wind is about a small boy who lives—seemingly alone—on an island. The wind keeps stealing away Ollie’s hat and his scarf—but is the wind naughty, or does it just want to play?
This book is about a boy who doesn't understand why the wind would steal his scarf and hat and balloon. He realises that the wind wants to play, so tries all sorts of things the wind isn't interested in (like a ball and a toy truck), until he finds his kite. The personification of the wind makes this a lovely story with great illustrations.
Today We Did The wind blows away Ollie’s hat, and then his scarf. He chases the wind in the hopes of finding his things, but then he realises that the wind wants to play. He just has to find the right toy to share with the wind.
I really like the cover of Ollie and the Wind, I’ve always thought it would be neat to fly on the wind with an umbrella!
This is a sweet story of friendship and sharing. Ollie seems a bit lonely. There aren’t many people around for him to play with, so he spends a lot of time on his own. The ideas he has for catching the wind are a bit funny, especially the butterfly net.
The illustrations are a little different, but lovely. I like how Ollie is drawn; he’s quite cute with a spray of freckles across his nose. The night sky scene with the moon and stars is stunning, and easily my favourite picture in the whole book.
Ollie and the Wind is a nice book for sharing with toddlers, preschoolers and lower primary school students.
Ollie and the Wind is such a sweet story and a marvellous achievement by a debut author/illustrator, Ronojoy Ghosh.
Ghosh has worked as an art director in the advertising industry for the past 15 years. He was inspired to write Ollie and the Wind for his young son who loves bedtime stories every night.
Many of us have felt this kind of inspiration thanks to the children in our lives, but very few of us are actually capable of producing a beautiful book that captures the simple joys of childhood as well as Ghosh has.
Ollie lives on an island and is used to solitude and finding ways to amuse himself. But one day the naughty wind steals his hat, then his scarf and balloon.
This charming picture book follows a lonely young boy who lives on an unnamed island as he attempts to capture the wind. When his efforts fail, he decides to try to play with the wind instead and comes up with various ways to play until he lands on the perfect idea.
With stunning illustrations, especially the starry night scenes, Ollie and the Wind is a touching book with a sweet, young boy at its core. I especially enjoyed the clever details in the illustrations including a lovely surprise at the end.
Perfect as a bedtime story for toddlers and preschoolers. Recommended.
