In my opinion, the cover of the book is phenomenal. Clean, simple, and beautiful. After loving the cover, I was disappointed by the book itself. I felt that the chapters were too long and kept saying the same thing over and over again. I found myself skipping sections in multiple chapters simply because it couldn't keep my attention. As a huge book-lover and one who reads every single book until the last page, I struggled to make it even halfway through this book. I hate to leave a negative review, but this book just wasn't for me and I couldn't honestly recommend it to a friend.

Brave Enough was a book that brings up the question of courage and how to implement it into our everyday lives and our walk with God. It pointed out the difference between how we can settle for good enough instead of being brave enough to follow God's will in different areas of our lives - in big ways or small ways.

I listened to the audiobook and thoroughly enjoyed it. This book was filled with lots of amazing biblical truths and I found myself taking my time with this book to dwell on each chapter. I really appreciated the perspective it brought to courage. It doesn't have to be a huge leap - it can start small and grow if we are willing and grounded in Christ. With that courage, we can grow as people in every area of our lives.

Overall, Brave Enough was a great read. I would definitely recommend this book!

Brave Enough promises to teach you how to live bold and free, and for a lot of people, this will probably be true. It's true for me; there's a lot of wisdom and guidance here on letting God handle our fears and worry and learning to recognize our limits and so no once in a while. The author does a great job of intertwining Bible verses and other quotes into the narrative to strengthen her points, and I loved the personal stories. There are a lot of lines that I copied down because they really struck something inside of me, and I know I'm going to be coming back to those lines any time I'm feeling overwhelmed with worry or fear or that feeling of not being enough.

There are also a number of exercises and charts to help the reader get their fears or their worries out in the open. I didn't do all of these exercises exactly as instructed--it's hard to whip out a notebook and start listing things when I'm eating lunch at work--but even just thinking through the prompts and examining the charts helped me dig deeper into the problems I constantly carry around. And the prayers at the end of each chapter are simple and beautiful, much like the cover of this book, and provide a straightforward way to ask God for his guidance and his strength.

All in all, Brave Enough is a great read. I'd love to read this again with a group of ladies and encourage one another as we work towards becoming brave women of grace.

Finished this book last month! So thankful to have gotten it at a cheaper price from by bookstore's bargain section!

I especially like the chapter on knowing your limits and what it means to take a break so that we can "be still" and tune in to the voice of God in our daily lives.

Find the courage to be who you are — not who you wish you were.
Here’s a not-so-hidden secret: We are all a little scared.

Do you want to learn to be free from your insecurities and be able to be free? Then this is the book for you! Taken from lessons taught in the Bible from Jesus and modern day real life stories, Nicole teaches us how we as women let our doubts and daily problems get in our way from living free from the daily grind and being brave. I loved this, it gave more then advice but a lot of things straight from the Bible to remind us that we as ordinary human woman, can live as brave women.
I recieved this book form Tyndale for review.

Brave Enough had a lot of good content. However, I felt that about 75% of the book had very little to do with how to be "brave enough." Instead, the book felt more like "How to Follow Jesus 101." Good information but not what I was hoping for.

A rather niche book. Women and spiritual living in terms of Christianity. I found it stimulating and interesting.

Maybe a better road map at the start of the book would be great. At times slightly mundane with loads of female stereotyping. Nevertheless raw and truthful. To me it explained complex issues on a too superficial level without any theory or references.

It is definitely a bit of a book that gives insight to a subjective conversation that covers a large range of issues on a superficial level, often making crude assumptions and statements.

I think the book could be improved by giving it a more thorough structure and connecting it with the theory of mental health. That could greatly expand and improve the book.

Whilst my feedback might sound critical, I still think it is a great, positive and empowering book.

I would change the title though - I am not a fan of enough. That gives the impression that there is a benchmark that has to be hit rather than understanding the process and spectrum.

Perhaps I'm being unfair, because I stopped after 3 chapters. But I just found the initial chapters quite... One-dimensional? I am so glad that it has really helped encourage people but for me I found the message a bit underwhelming. It's so good to enjoy the truths of the gospel, but for me I think I expected something different to what this book was offering. Something which would unpack the truths Jesus speaks of in a new way that I hadn't thought of or considered. I chose to stop after the third chapter but I will try to pick it up again at a different time with a different mindset.

Should have been a much shorter listicle or YouVersion devo. As much as the content was helpful and even backed by scriptural references, it became far too repetitive. There wasn't anything profound enough to recommend to others.

In Brave Enough, Nicole Unice tells us a little secret: “We’re all a little scared.” Being afraid, though, doesn’t mean you can’t live with courage. It doesn’t mean you can’t be brave. She writes, “Courage is the will to move past fear and get out of our own way, to become the women God has made us to be.” Being Brave-Enough isn’t about climbing mountains or skydiving; it’s about living in obedience to God even when that makes you shake in your sneakers.

Nicole has such a fresh, get-real style to her writing, and I love it. She’s never putting on a facade and she doesn’t hold back from confessing some of her own struggles (like setting limits and boundaries on her schedule). As a Christian counselor, her emphasis is often on the counseling, psychological, emotional aspects of our life–why do we do what we do and how can we submit that to Christ? I tend to prefer more Bible-study focus and less Christian-counseling-focus in the books I read, but that isn’t true for everyone, and Nicole Unice’s insights and expertise really shine and will be an encouragement and help to lots of women.

This book includes nine chapters, each focusing on an area where we can be brave in our Christian walk, such as “Brave-Enough Women Love Grace, Brave-Enough Women Give Grace, Brave-Enough Women Know Their Limits” and more. She includes action points that she calls “Our Daily Brave” at the end of each chapter, as well as a prayer.

Both in her book, She’s Got Issues, and in this book, Brave Enough, Nicole Unice gets real about anger in a way that I haven’t really seen in most other books for Christian women. I also liked her discussion of ‘fake grace’ in this book, when she talks about how women deal with failure sometimes by making excuses or concessions instead of just resting in the lavish grace of Christ. She challenges the reader by saying, “When we manufacture weak, fake grace, we end up being weak, fake people.”

Ultimately, Nicole is really writing about how we can bravely engage in sanctification and how God transforms us to be more like Christ every single day. We sometimes get caught up and terrified of ‘big changes’ and huge spiritual moments, and “it might be easier to think of the ways we can save the world than ways we can change our daily life….Bravely facing the hard places in our heart and desiring to receive and give real grace takes grit” (87). This book is about being Brave Enough to let God work in our heart and our lives every single day without holding back.

I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own. I am not sure the word “Brave” is one which would ever be applied to me. Truth be known … I scare easily and am a little scared – all the time.

Getting out of my comfort zone does not come easily. Not ever. And it probably would not take much to convince me to live in a bunker {{just kidding, lest my kids think I’m serious}}.

But here’s the thing – I don’t want to live in this manner. I want to have courage and move through my days bravely.

“Here’s a not-so-hidden secret: We are all a little scared.” (Nicole Unice)

These words bring the largest sigh of relief. A freedom, which permits me to relax in my lack of bravery, fills me as I let these words settle in my soul.

There is no need to struggle and strive, trying to do more, be more, and change into someone I am not.

In her book book, Brave Enough, Nicole Unice explains:

“The courage to change doesn’t have to mean cliff-diving out of your comfort zone. This courage is about being brave enough – for yourself, for God, and for your calling – right where you are. A brave-enough life is one lived fully and confidently, free from the weight of worry and the burden of trying too hard.”

Brave Enough is a call to become brave by fully embracing who God has created each of us to be. She challenges us to be courageous to journey with God on the unique path He has set for each of us.

“Grace teaches us that Christ, who is in us, is stronger than our deficiencies, and together with him, we will prevail. True grace means we are not who we once were, and will continue to be different tomorrow.” (page 73)

Grace, it is extended to us each and every day. God’s grace, poured out on our lives, will have an impact. God’s grace changes us. God’s grace breaks us out from those thoughts and habits which would hinder us. It is His grace which makes us brave.

Fear keeps us stuck; grace whispers freedom.
Fear makes us suspicious; grace makes us generous.
Fear shouts doubt; grace sings peace.
Fear murmurs, Look out for yourself; grace whispers, You are not alone.
Fear shouts, You’ll never make it; grace replies, You already have.
Fear screams, God is against you; grace laughs because love always wins.”
(page 75)

“By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect.”
(1 Corinthians 15:10)

His grace will change you.
It will make you Brave Enough.

This is a book of learned and gained wisdom, stories, and practical helps which will infuse women with courage to live in such a way to impact others. Brave Enough will help every reader to realize they are, indeed, brave enough.

"Brave" is not a word I use to describe myself. I'm more of the timid and anxious variety. "Brave" makes me think of warriors and pioneers and go-getters who tackle every challenge that comes their way.

So, I was interested in this book by Nicole Unice, Brave Enough, because of the implication that I might have this bravery thing all wrong. I trust Nicole as a writer. She gently guided me through all my issues a few years ago in her first book, She's Got Issues, and she speaks as someone who knows what she's talking about because she's just like the rest of us. No high horse, here. Nicole shares stories of imperfection and weakness, and for this, I am grateful. (Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for my review.)

Brave Enough calls us to "get over our fears, flaws and failures to live BOLD and FREE." Who wouldn't want that? And from page one, she inspires us to imagine what that kind of life would look like.

"What if, starting today, starting right now, you weren't scared anymore? What if that worried energy were gone? .... What would you do? Who would you be? How would you live bigger?" (p. xiii)

When I started reading this book, I was in the midst of a situation that had me very worried. And I was weeks away from a 10-day mission trip to Kenya. The words of this book were as applicable on that adventure as I've found them in my daily life since then. I need the challenge to live courageously in my day-to-day activities.

Nicole breaks the book down into characteristics or actions of brave-enough women. And each chapter ends with questions for reflection and a prayer related to the chapter's theme. Most are the kind of questions I need to take more time with. (And definitely grab a notebook before you start this book. Lots of opportunity to journal and reflect.)

There's also a section at the end for further contemplation about the Scriptures she used throughout the book and a space to think about what section might be the most applicable in this season. (A DVD curriculum is also available if you're looking for a group study.)

Bottom line: Nicole understands the issues and challenges women face because she faces them too! And her heart for leading women beyond those issues and challenges is evident in her writing. I highly recommend both of her books for spiritual growth.

** “Fear has no power until we give it control, until we decide that what it says is true and we must take action on it. Then fear becomes the captor of our souls. Fear keeps us stuck and small. Fear makes us treat the world with suspicion. Fear makes us doubt God’s goodness. Fear is the little whisper that tells each of us, Look out for yourself. Fear sidles up next to us and says, God doesn’t listen. Fear sneaks in and suggests, You’ll never make it. Fear says, God is against you.” **

Nicole Unice offers a lovely tome of encouragement with “Brave Enough.” She works off the premise of what if your worried energy was gone and you could experience a life with more joy and wonder … if the weight of responsibility and failure were gone.

With “Brave Enough,” she shows women how to experience a life filled with courage — to be brave-enough women filled with Jesus-courage. Unice, who writes openly and vulnerably, offers vignettes from her own personal life, as well as the lives of those she knows to encourage the reader on their path to braveness. More importantly, she offers many excellent examples from the Bible and the life of Christ.

She offers practical steps on how to pursue a brave life — choosing courage in everyday choices, finding grace, and embracing and practicing spiritual survival skills, for example.

Each chapter ends with questions of reflection, as well as a prayer — meaning this book can be read through in its entirety, or one chapter at a time as a daily devotional. The book ends with a sizable appendix on “The Word in Courage,” where Unice arranges Scripture passages by theme — God’s passion for us, His power and protection, and His priorities, promises and provision.

This is an excellent book to help the Christian woman in her battle against fear and anxiety, and finding the courage to be “brave-enough.”

Five stars out of five.

Brave Enough by Nicole Unice is a great resource and reminder that with Jesus we can find the courage to face whatever comes.

This book is a fast read but one you will read and want to absorb and put into practice. It explains that our courage to overcome fear and our failures is only through a relationship with Christ. It is worth taking time to read and study this book to help you to find your courage.

Well written and such good information. Have a pen ready you will want to make notes but the author also has thought provoking questions to answer also. This would be a wonderful book to use in a women's small group at church.

One of my favorite statements was, " Jesus gives energy where we lack it and strength where we are knee-knockingly weak." Pg 12

Another is, " Acknowledging that we need grace is admitting that we have weaknesses we can't fix." Pg 56 and " Many of us are settling for good enough when God is looking for brave enough." Pg 57

This is a book that helps us look to God and not let fear rule us while giving us steps that will help us let go of those fears and let us be what God wants us to be.

This is a great book to read and reread.

This book has the author giving us an idea on how to be brave when more times than not, we aren’t. Often challenged by things in life that holds us back. She encourages the reader to embrace what God has for us and move forward.

For me, I was excited to read this book because there are too many times where I find that I’m unlikely to do things out of fear. What if someone thinks this or that? Where is my own bravery? I thought perhaps there would be some insight within these pages. For many, this book will provide them just what they need. But for me, I found myself skimming through a lot of the chapters trying to find substance that would send me diving further into the chapter. I didn’t find it, until the chapter containing the Sabbath.

Now this chapter intrigued me, for more reasons than you realize. For one, I do go to church on Saturday, therefore Sabbath for me has always been a different day than all the others. But to read the book, from a non-Adventist perspective talking about the Sabbath intrigued me. And everything she said about the Sabbath is spot on. That is the one day of the week, where you should be able to step aside and just chill. Don’t worry about the things that afflict you during the week, let that be your day, between you and God and family. This is the day that you rest, not necessarily literally, but you take a rest from stress. A day where you aren’t running around going shopping, soccer practices, all things that build into your previous days. That one day of the week is what I need to hit reset for the upcoming week. Because believe me, it helps. It recharges you. Whether it is Sunday or Saturday, may your Sabbath day recharge you and not let the world take charge of you.

I loved Brave Enough: Getting Over Our Fears, Flaws, and Failures to Live Bold and Free by Nicole Unice! When perfectionism becomes a dictator in everyday life, when failure rears its ugly head, when going with the flow is easiest, Nicole Unice calls women to be brave and make some movement.

I appreciate an author who isn’t afraid to quote others and one who uses real life examples. There are so many great quotes from this book but I can’t list them all so here’s just a few:

“Some would paraphrase the philosopher Plato as defining courage as the ability to persevere though all emotions.” (Loc 86)

“Maya Angelou once said, “Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage.” (Loc 134)

“This is different, a courage that comes from outside of yourself but that changes you from inside your soul. This courage releases the vise grip of fear and gives you the energy and strength and heart you need to face whatever life’s got for you.” (Loc 177)

Ms. Unice talks about how being brave is an option. Adversity is going to happen to everyone at some point it’s what we do with our adversity that makes the difference. Choosing to allow God to take the adversity we face and let those journeying steps help us to be brave.

I thoroughly enjoyed Brave Enough. It’s like having a personal counselor walk you through the process and then become your cheerleader. It’s a great book for women of all ages with practical insight and advice. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from Edelweiss and Tyndale Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion.

I recently finished Brave Enough by Nicole Unice, and I found this book to be remarkably encouraging, delightfully funny, and highly engaging. Directed towards women, it addresses the areas women tend to live in fear, showing how to cast aside fear and take hold of the bravery God created us to embrace.

And honestly? Unice doesn't argue that every woman lives a crazy brave life, constantly running outside comfort zones to live boldly and unexpectedly. Instead, she shows how women can be brave enough, and how those small moments of brave enough have an enormous impact on those around us. Those brave enough moments have a habit of rippling out more than we could possibly imagine, and Unice illustrates that beautifully in this book. God can do great things with a brave enough decision.

From spiritual gifts to marriage to limits and everything in between, Unice addresses key areas that women must stand up and claim bravery more often. Beyond that, she shows what claiming bravery and living a bold and free life could look like. And through it all, she offers grace and encouragement, knowing that brave enough is a journey.

I would highly, highly recommend this book to any woman who doesn't feel brave enough. I challenge you to read this, because you'll find that you make brave decisions every day, and you are indeed brave enough to make a big impact in this life. In fact, you're already making them. This book will give you the encouragement and freedom to continue making brave decisions. Because while brave is scary, it's always worth it. Unice shows that time and time again in this brilliant book.

In Brave Enough, Nicole Unice explored how to tap into finding our true strength and having the courage to be brave. Most people are afraid of something and they are letting fear define their life and they aren’t living in the freedom found in Christ. This book walks readers through how to live out in courage and be brave enough to withstand in the mist of the storms in life. Throughout the book, she looks at running your race, understanding grace and giving grace, know our boundaries and live in them, not backing down in a fight, using our spiritual elements to help us in our spiritual walk, and much more.

I would recommend this life changing book to every single person who is ready to live in freedom and they are sick and tired of living in fear. I loved the chapter about the four spiritual survival skills. One of the ones I really need to improve in is reading the Word of God every single day. Nicole Unice shared that it takes courage to believe when we read the Bible that God has something to speak to us through His written Word. I immensely believe in the benefit of reading the Bible and believing God will speak to us. God’s word can dramatically change our lives and it has the power to cause us to change and turn our life around. I also loved how she discussed the topic of our calling the four facets of it and how to be brave enough to pursue it. This book will enormously help readers to conquer their fears and be brave enough to live out their calling for Christ’s Kingdom.
