The story of the seven days, from 6 June 1798, when a coalition of idealistic Presbyterians and Catholics challenged the might of the Anglican establishment in Antrim and Down. It draws on contemporary diaries, letters and reports to present a history of the United Irishmen rising in the North.
Anthony Terence Quincey Stewart, known professionally as A.T.Q. Stewart or Tony Stewart, was a Northern Irish historian, teacher and academic, and a best-selling author on the subject of the politics of Ulster and Northern Ireland.
Some great material on Thomas Ledlie Birch, who was the minister of First Saintfield Presbyterian Church during 1798(in my home town), especially concerning his correspondence with George Washington that was published in the Belfast Mercury. As with anything by Tony Stewart, this book is both very good to read and supplies the reader with a careful analysis of the events.
Another great book my A.T. Q. Stewart. the rebellion of 1798. The battle of Antrim, the battle of Saintfield, and the battle of Ballynahinch. A very good read.
