If you want to eat processed, high carb meals this is for you. If you want good foods that are at least minimally healthy for you, take a hard pass.

Nope. I get that five ingredients isn't a lot, but if I wanted to read what one can do with pre-made foods I wouldn't be reading a cook book for RECIPES...

Only read if you have a slow cooker machine

I don't think I can make any of the recipes provided. It does not apply to everyone, only to people p.e. that have a slow cooker

Not real recipes.

I found no « real » recipes in this book. I prefer following if needed made from scratch-type recipes. Not for me.

Review of Five Ingredient Cookbook

5 stars

I liked the breakfast casserole and the other breakfasts. Lots of chicken recipes for main dish. The cobblers sounded good too.

Mislesding and useless to anyone looking for homemade cooking

This is a great example of the kinds of recipes I loathe. I'm not into this "can of" and "package of" stuff. It took conversing with a friend in Slovakia to learn those recipes are not accessible. Even if these recipes are US-based (or so it seems), the conversions at the beginning of the book are pointless since most of the recipes require you to buy a "package of" something. It's not a 5-ingredient recipe book just because you're skipping several steps by using something that's premade. That kind of stuff...it's a cheat, misleading and ridiculous. I got into this category of recipe books (fewer ingredients) because cooking isn't my BFF right now (atypical anorexia recovery and all), and I got sick of the recipes on food blogs that use premade ingredients instead of telling me how to make it myself. I have yeast and mold allergies. The bulk of this book is utterly useless to me.

I would prefer a cookbook to have pictures but I still gave this book a 4-star rating. Why? Because I do NOT like to cook and yet this cookbook showed me how to make a few basic dishes that were quick, easy, and tasted yummy!
I first only purchased this book for the corn casserole recipe but have since also made the slow cooker roasted veggies (also yummy by the way) and the slow cooker maple oatmeal that was quick, easy, hearty, and made a great lunch!

Any cookbook that allows me to cook and made dishes that are easy and yummy will get at least 3 stars in my opinion rating. Any book that has 3 or more recipes that I like and now use on a regular basis will get a 4star or 5-star rating. If this book had had pictures of the dishes it would have gotten a 5-star rating but it doesn't so it lost a star. :(

5 Ingredient Cookbook: Easy Recipes in 5 or Less Ingredients by Hannie P. Scott
Starts out with table of contents where recipes are broken up into meals.
Abbreviations explained along with conversions along with offer for free ebook.
Each recipe starts with a title and servings.
List of ingredients are included and you should be able to substitute for your healthier dietary needs: low sodium, low fat, low sugar and fresh vs. canned items.
Directions are given but there are NO pictures and NO nutritional information. They do list a serving tip at the end of some recipes.
I myself would be using fresh items and not packaged. Other works by the author are listed at the end along with link to their website.

2.5 pretty easy but pretty obvious stars

I was hoping for something more along the lines of angel hair pasta, crushed tomatoes, garlic, sauteed mushrooms, shredded parmesan cheese recipes. Nothing too fancy, just simple healthy little things I can throw together in no time at all. These were more like things I remember my mother making...tuna, macaroni noodles, cream of mushroom soup, pepper, then parmesan cheese for a noodle casserole kinda stuff. Which is fine, especially if you can't cook or aren't familiar with basics.
But umm...I'm not either of those so this wasn't for me.
If you are then this would totally be your jam.

Five Ingredient Cookbook – This is my first book by this writer and I was not impressed. Many of the recipes quialigy as junk food. Too many have processed ingredients resulting in too much sugar, salt, fat and chemical addivtives.

Many of the “recipes” I found in this “book” I found in Ms. Abedi’s 5 Ingredient Recipes. So unless you spend a lot of time at McDonald’s and other fast food joints, you will not like these “recipes”.

I recommend looking on the Internet for the healthy versions. 1*

A good starting book

This is a great book for someone just starting out with cooking, say college student or recent graduate. The recipes are easy to read, easy to prepare and utilize easy to obtain ingredient. A good majority of the recipes do call for preprocessed items (ie cake mix) to keep the recipes under 5 ingredient. I was able to take away from new ideas from this book. But this is more of a beginner book.

Quick meals: 5 ingredients or less

Gee, what can I say: I enjoy reading cookbooks because I can read them and not gain any weight, while seeing what the recipes look like when done. Mrs. Scott s recipes are too dog gone good to pick any that are either the cat s meow, or so atrocious that you never want to ever eat them again.

Does any chef or cook ever make really bad food? Now I likely will while learning how to duplicate her technique..

Finally a recipe book with real food!

Great to find a recipe book for those of us with lives, those of us who are not into veggies we can't even spell, let alone find in our local store. I especially appreciate the slow cooker recipes. My slow cooker helps me keep my family fed while I'm busy cleaning house and/or actually caring for my family. Great recipes throughout with minimum ingredients. Well done.

Slow cooking for a fast life

I enjoyed all of these recipes. I have most all of the ingredients in my pantry. Can't wait to try them on hubby. Slow cookers are good for me since I suffer acute back pain and cannot stand over a stove for hours to cook a meal. I would recommend this book to all my friends.

I only rated this is a 4* on account of there were no pictures but the recipes were simple, easy to follow. They also mostly had ingredients that most people have in their cupboards! Did try 6 of them and they were good, quick, easy to follow and my family enjoyed them! Pictures would have made the recipes more appetizing!

So far so good

I have tried a pork chop crock dinner, it was well received. I am making peach cobbler now, it looks and smells great. I am not a cook, I don't have the gene for it. My mother wasn't much better. I don't enjoy cooking and am a super fan of the crock pot.
I need easy recipes without many Ingredients plus little prep time. This book affords me simple ways to provide tasty dinners and deserts. The ingredients are normal everyday supplies. Martha might turn up her nose but I am sold.

Good cookbook for hardworking millennials

This is a great book for all the millennials out there. For those juggling student debt and one or more jobs.
And for the beginner cooks who wants more than fast food.

I did not like that there was so much pre-prepared food, but that is my preference.

Whilst the cookbook does live up to its title of providing recipes that involve five or fewer ingredients, I was really unimpressed with its content. The majority of the recipes rely on the reader purchasing processed foods. There is a stark deficit of what I would consider to be healthy recipes as well as a lack of information about cooking techniques.

Very average

I didn't completely disliked the book but I was expecting good and simple recipes using real ingredients, but what I found was a hand full of good recipes and a majority of bad ones that use shortcuts (such as pre-made sauce, canned soup or tube of cinnamon roll). I think is a very lazy way to put a cookbook together and it annoys me I wasted time on it.

Processed Ingredients

The effort is appreciated but not the recipes for me, majority use powdered ranch dressing, canned cream soups, processed ingredients. No nutrition info given but with the sugar called for and canned/powdered items the sugar and sodium levels are very high. Better cookbooks available free that use healthy ingredients.

5 ingredients! I felt no need to add to any of them.
Thank you Hannah

I actually thought I had downloaded a chicken recipe book by accident at first. It seems like the majority of the recipes are involve chicken. Also seems like cheating if one of the five ingredients are something premade.

I think my favorite part was the recipe for scrambled eggs. lolz.

Easy, easy, easy

Nicely written cookbook. I bookmarked several easy, fast-prep recipes to try. I'm especially excited to try the slow cooker bread pudding recipe as well as the easy powdered sugar donuts.

Holy cow, these recipes are fast and easy to make in the crock pot. Went through the ebook but nothing seemed to hinder taste to my boyfriend. He likes to try new foods.
