The saying "You're only young once" isn't really applicable to our generation. The time capsule that is Thought Catalog lets readers live it and relive it again. Many of our writers have gotten into a habit of composing year-in-review lists on the eve of their birthdays. Here, we've combined essays from writers 18-31 years of age. While desires and reactions might change from year to year, you'll notice that at every age, we all want the same thing: to waste less time worrying and more time doing.
Thought Catalog is a website founded in 2010 by American entrepreneur and media strategist Chris Lavergne. Owned by The Thought & Expression Company, the site attracts 25 million monthly unique visitors. -Wikipedia
A bit repetitive , but never the less reminders to keep you going.
“Communicate what you want. No one can read your mind, and you should never assume you know exactly what someone else is thinking. Whether they surprise or disappoint you, conversation is key.”
“When it’s all said and done, make sure you’ve done more than you’ve said. Actions speak louder than words.”
“Don’t take yourself too seriously. Learn to laugh at your mistakes. Unfortunate events (and unfortunate people) often make for the best stories in later years.”
“Nothing is better than a face to face conversation with someone and I feel like technology is ruining how we communicate with each other.”
“Remember, there are only two things in life that are meant to be chased: your dreams and your drinks.”
“Know when to fight. More importantly, know when to walk away. And keep walking.”
“Pain helps one heal properly; distraction just leads to a pile of unresolved emotion. If you are trying your very best to feel better, it’s okay to be sad. Recovery is a process.”
“Bad things happen to really great people. I don’t know why; they just do. But everything truly does happen for a reason, and there’s a lesson hidden somewhere in the pain and struggle. Learn the lesson, and appreciate that you made it through the pain.”
“Sometimes the hardest person to be honest with is yourself.”
“The heart is amazingly resilient and has an immense capacity for love.”
“People aren’t against you. They are for themselves.”
“Sometimes the person with the biggest balls in the room is a woman.”
I really enjoyed the advice found in these essays written by Thought Catalog staff about the lessons their life experiences have taught them. Although only a few of the mantras were wholly new to me, the sum of the parts left me feeling altogether energized, confident and looking forward to putting them in action.
These lists were so repetitive and I didn't really relate to any of the lessons learned by 22.. everyone goes through life differently so I find most of these findings unrealistic.
I didn't think Thought Catalog could ever disappoint me... 2 stars :(
