Black Cat Mysteries #3

Black Cat and the Accidental Angel

Rate this book
When the family SUV flips and Kimberlee is rushed to the hospital, Black Cat (Thumper) and his soul-mate are left behind. Black Cat loses all memory of his former life and the identity of the lovely feline companion by his side. “Call me Angel. I’m here to take care of you.” Her words set them on a long journey toward home, and life brings them face to face with episodes of joy and sorrow.

The two cats are taken in by John and his young daughter, Cindy, facing foreclosure of the family vineyard and emu farm. In addition, someone is playing increasingly dangerous pranks that threaten Cindy’s safety. Angel makes it her mission to help their new family. John’s prayers are answered in unexpected ways, but not until Angel puts her life at risk to protect the child, and Black Cat finds there are more important things in life than knowing your real name.

Black Cat (aka Thumper) and Noe-Noe are thrown from the car in their crate when their persons' car is hit and the door pops open. Black Cat has a head injury and can't remember who he is or where "home" is, but Noe-Noe knows and won't tell him. As they try to find "home" they stow away in a truck and end up with John and his daughter Cindy. Cindy names them (appropriately) Black Cat and Angel. As the story unfolds it seems that Angel's notion that there is a reason they ended up with John and Cindy becomes more likely. Someone is threatening John and trying to make him give up his ranch.

In this third book, the point of view (POV) is not only Black Cat's, but also Angel's. Their discussions and problem-solving as well as Black Cat's male perspective countered by Angel's has a very human feel. Faber does a great job of weaving the conflicts between them - Black Cats desire to remember and find his persons, and Angels seeming reluctance - as well as painting a number of plausible suspects behind the threats to John and Cindy. I've read all three, and this is by far my favorite.

This is the first book I've read in this series, but I jumped at the chance to read it, as I am a huge fan of cozy mysteries with cats. After reading, and discovering it is told mostly from the point of view of the two cats, I am hooked. I look forward to more adventures featuring Thumper and Angel.

The way that Faber writes about the cats' thoughts and their conversations with each other, it is obvious that she is a cat lover. And the voices she gives to the kittens are adorable.

The descriptions of the landscape are vivid and paint an amazing picture. The dual mysteries of the cats trying to find their way home, and of who is harassing John are very well developed. I had a feeling about the perpetrator and motive, but it was never glaringly obvious until the end.

This book is actually the third in Elaine's series, but whether you read just this one or the entire series you will enjoy it. The story switches between the prespective of the two cats and the humans. It is a very touching story with deep principles that we all need to be reminded of. I really feel this book could be equally enjoyed by young and old alike.

A cat lovers book.

Perfect book for cat lovers. When from the cats perspective it reminded me of a feline Lassie Come Home story. The adventures are believable and I loved the ending.

This is the best of the three books I've read in the Black Cat series. I enjoyed the story focusing on the cats' perspectives and how they solved the problems in the story. John and Cindy were my favorite characters in the series. Their emotions were more realistic and rational.

This is a difficult review for me to write. I love discovering new authors and am a cozy (and cat) addict.
This book has cats and dogs and emus and kids. How can I not love it?
I think I did not rate it higher because it tore at my emotions harder than I desire a cozy to do.
I read cozies for escape and enjoyment.

The story about the cats being heroes, saving the day more than once, and the reader being able to experience the adventure through the cats' point of view - I was excited about that.
As I read this novel, I felt the tale was told through three different points of view: the cats (of course) but also from two different families. Amanda's parents (Brett and Kimberlee) and Cindy's dad (John.)
This book begins immediately after the previous Thumper adventure and I think I may have enjoyed it more if I had read the series from the beginning. It stands alone, but I feel I am missing out on important background.
What DID the grandmother threaten to do about Amanda? What more is there to Noe-Noe and Black Cat's relationship before this book?

You should know that there are Christian religious tones to this story. God, St. Peter, faith are all brought up repeatedly. They play a strong role in the story but if not aware, some readers may find it off-putting.
It makes the book mystical and paranormal in nature, beyond cozy.
I appreciated that Boots and Amber are living muses for the book stars and that a portion of profits goes to feline rescue, which I have supported myself for many decades.

Black Cat has amnesia after the car accident. Angel is hiding a HUGE secret from him.
Jack was a memorable hero in this novel as well, "the kind of friend you could always count on, no matter what you needed." One of the quotes that pulled roughly at my heart was "Thumper was gone and the place where he lived in Brett's heat left an empty hole..." Other quotes did make me smile. "Living with a properly trained person makes life so much easier." (Angel)
Black Cat/Thumber struggled not only with his memory but also with understanding female logic.

Another line that I feel expresses the overall theme of this book and means much to me:
"Isn't it strange how one simple action can ripple out and touch so many lives?"

I am happy I received this book in exchange for an unbiased review and I will be reading the previous books in the series to be filled in on Black Cat's legacy.

Unexpected side trip.

I enjoyed both the first and second. This one is my favorite. Seeing the adventure through the eye and thoughts of Thumper and Angel made the telling of their adventures and new experiences much more exciting. Three cheers for this wonderful and couldn,,t put it down story!

This whodunit was very enjoyable. I thought the cats were fun and witty.I wasn't sure how it was going to go being told from the cat's point of view, however when I started to read it, I couldn't put it down. I look forward to what will happen next.

I read this book in less than 24 hours because I just had to know what was going to happen to the 2 cats in the story.

It starts with a family driving home from a vacation with their pets. They get in an accident and the carrier with their two cats tumbles down an embankment. The family goes to the hospital depending on the local animal shelter to help take care of their pets. Unfortunately, no one realizes there were cats because of where they landed.

The story follows these two cats as they try to find their way home. Along the way, they help another family in need and help solve a mystery. These poor kitties end up in many frightening situations which had b=me biting my nails with worry.

This is a Christian novel so there are many references to angels and St. Peter which I found very comforting. This was the third book in the series and I had no trouble following it, but I do wish I had read them in order and I am planning to read them soon. I highly recommend this book to any cat lover, especially those that love a mystery.
