Charlotte Hart used to have the perfect life.

Or…what she thought was perfect.

President of her sorority. Legions of friends. A promising career in journalism. It’s exactly what she wanted, exactly what she’d always planned. But after her slimy bastard of a boyfriend cheats on her with her archenemy, everything she built comes crumbling down.

She needs out. Now.

But leaving everything behind means she has to live with Max, a mysterious guy from the past. Living with him isn’t the wisest decision she’s ever made—Max isn’t friendly, he keeps a lot of secrets, and sneaks out in the middle of the night. There’s definitely something shady about him, but at least he seems to understand what she needs. In fact, he seems to know it better than she does.

____________________________________________

When Charlotte shows up on Max Archer’s doorstep, he knows he can’t turn her away. He wishes he could—she’s broken, lost, comes with too much baggage, but he owes her his life. Whatever she wants, he’ll find a way to make it happen. Problem is, Max doesn’t count on Charlotte wanting more than he’s willing to give.

He doesn’t count on her wanting his heart.

REBOUNDING follows characters that were previously introduced in the novel PRETENDING, but you do NOT need to read PRETENDING beforehand as REBOUNDING is its own story and is a standalone novel.

Overall, Rebounding is a great NA novel. Like Taylor Swift said, The worst part was not losing him. It was losing me. Charlotte did her best to get away from that life but if your new life falls apart a lot easier than the one you left behind, hat do you do? If the past is only what keeps you going but at the same time is what kills you, what do you do? You know what they say, your past doesn’t define you and you sure shouldn’t let that take over your present. Rebounding is beautifully written and if you’re into fast paced life-changing (for the characters but can work on you too) romance, Rebounding is a must-read. Really, if you love NA romance, read this.

We first met Charlotte in Pretending, Wes and Doll’s story. We found out in Pretending that Char’s boyfriend, Miles cheated on her and she wishes to drop from school and move away. Rebounding takes place a few months after that incident.

Two years ago, Char saved the life of a guy who was being stabbed repeatedly. Max Archer did not wish to be saved, but still a beautiful girl saved his life. He doesn’t like to owe debts, but he ends up owing Char the biggest debt of all. Now two years later, Char is ready to cash in on that favor Max promised her.

All Char wants is to move away from Gainesville, and the life that meant the world to her. So she shows up at Max Archer’s doorstep, requesting a place to stay. Max can’t forget the girl who saved his life. And when she shows up at his doorstep, he knows he can’t turn her away.

Rebounding was a heartfelt book. I loved the way Char picked up the pieces and moved on with her life. She found new friends in Trevor and Stephanie and even in Max. I also like the fact that she could finally spend time with herself and figure out who she is. And the person she is, is a wonderful, strong, funny, independent woman.

Max’s parents were murdered, and his sister kidnapped, when he was eight years old. Till date he is trying to find the man who ruined his life and took everything away from him. Throughout the book Max is pretty much on a suicide mission. He doesn’t care if he dies. All he cares is that the man who murdered his parents, David Garcia is killed. His cousin, Trevor too can’t get him to see straight. It’s only when Charlotte comes into his life that he even starts to think about living his life.

I loved the chemistry between Charlotte and Max. It was subtle, yet glaring. There was a give and take in their relationship. They both equally took care of each other and brought each other back from the brink.

The secondary characters like Trevor, Stephanie and Char’s brother Luke also made a nice addition to the story. Overall a beautifully written story from Shanna Clayton.

Oh how I loved this book, I was given a free ARC for an honest review!

First time reading from the author Shanna Clayton, and I fell in love with the characters, I just wanted for Charlotte to have more control of her self, but I know how we women act, we over analyze things too much, and sometimes, it just directs us to something we don't want.

Charlotte is so hurt because of her boyfriend Miles, she wants to escape, not sure where to go, she leaves Gainesville towards Miami, to see if a stranger she only met once, would help her.

Then there's Max Archer, now about couple of years back, he was saved by Charlotte, he was stabbed and she scarred the robbers away with her gun. She went to the hospital, and once he recovered, she went on her way, during spring break. Basically Max owed her his life, he thought she was gorgeous, but for a messed up guy like him, its glad he didn't ask any information more from her.

Well this stranger Charlotte goes and visit is Max. She figure that maybe he can owe her a favor by staying a couple of weeks until she gets a job and enough money to find a place in Miami, but she was so distraught, and tired, Max listened to her and with conditions, he let her stay.

But those conditions were going to be very tough. Can they get a long, Max had his life stolen from him as a young man, in search of the person that took his family, and Charlotte is trying to gather herself, from a broken relationship, that she's known all her life, with her family and friends looking for her, they both need help. Can they help each other out?

Well, you have to read this book, it keeps you wanting to know what happened to Max, and will Max let Charlotte get close to him?

The characters are well liked, not predictive, kept me wanting to read and not put this book down, buy the book.

I actually really liked this book, more so after finishing it than I first thought I did. The story, although coming from a pretty intense past, is quite simple. Boy doesn't wanna fall for girl, boy ends up falling for girl, boy and girl ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after (okay maybe not THAT simple, there's still a twist).

The writing is very pulling and captivating. The back and forth between both perspectives really helps paint a better picture. There's not much mystery in the sense that you kinda know where it is going from the start but it makes for a nice read regardless.

It's hard to believe Max doesn't date from how he nails it right off the bat with Charlotte. He's sweet and playful once his brooding phase is over and completely charming. I can see why Trevor and Steph are so protective of him, and I really enjoyed their relationship. Charlotte is also a good main character, she's not typically naive (with the exception of the love potion part because ???), nor overly cliché in her little-miss-perfect act. She's strong headed and very easy to relate to. Charlotte has been through a rough patch but she's learning from it, and watching her find herself truly was heartwarming. Special mention to Batman who just completely stole my heart.

"Everyone has demons," I say, my voice softening. "Some people allow their demons to rule them, and that's when they forget how to live. This is what it's about. Living. Breathing. Touching. Tasting. Absorbing every last messy piece of life."

Blog Tour Post: The Shadow Realm

Just as good as the first book, Rebounding was an emotional and highly enjoyable read. The book follows Charlotte, who we met in Pretending, and Max. I would definitely recommend reading Pretending before you read this so you can get the full story about what happened to Charlotte.
I didn't really like Charlotte before as she came across as a bit of a bitch but I began to like her in this. I really felt for her and what happened to her. I'm trying not to say what happened cause I don't want to spoil the first book for those that haven't read it. I really liked that she tried to gain some independence and get away from her family and her town. It took her a while but as they say, old habits die hard.
Max I really liked. He tried to come across as distant and cold but really he was a sweetheart. My heart absolutely broke for him for what he has gone through and was still going through. The two of them had great chemistry, they were perfect for each other.

I did enjoy Pretending more because of the treasure hunting aspect but I still enjoyed this one too. A great series with a great cast of characters! Would defo recommend to all you NA contemporary lovers out there :)

Charlotte saved Max life and two years later when she needed time to change her life for good , she shows up at Max's house to collect that "debt" that will not only change her life but will also change Max's.

I super duper loved this book since page 1.
Max had a tragic past that stop him for loving someone else, or at least that is what he tells to himself. The only goal in his life was to find the responsible that destroyed his life. But that was until he met Charlotte for the second time. Breaking all of his own rules Max find himself given into Charlotte little by little.
The relationship builds little by little, is not the kind of insta-love or something like that. Max knows that has feeling for Charlotte but he will deny them at all costs or try to. His main rule was stay away from Charlotte avoid the whole friendship thing but every time he sees her all sad and depress from a broken heart he can not help it but talk to her about it.
This was a great book! I really loved it from the beginning. There was nothing wrong with it. For me it was perfect and I finished it very fast which is a good sign!
The characters were all great, I loved Trevor!
Max:I fell in love with Max , he was so hot!
Charlotte : she annoyed from time to time with her broken-heart , specially with the love potion , who does that ???
If I could I'd give this book 10 stars!

Definitely Recommend This Book
This is the first thing that I've read by this author, and I'm glad that I got the chance. The characters in this book were introduced in a previous book called Pretending, and after reading this book I fully intend to go back and read that one, but this book was great read as a standalone. The story is very well written, it just grabs hold and keeps your attention. The plot is rich and at times unexpected, and the characters are so realistic, they could be people that you really know and care about, because that's what happened to me. I really found myself caring about these characters, especially Charlotte. After her d-bag boyfriend cheats on her she takes off, she just needs to get away. This is where Max comes in. I love Max! Who do you run to when you're trying to escape? A stranger. Well not exactly a total stranger, but close enough. It's interesting to see how these two interact, and how their relationship develops. Exactly what secrets is Max keeping, and why all of the sneaking around? You'll just have to read and find out, no spoilers here. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rebounding is the second book in a series but it can be read as a stand-alone. I do recommend reading the first book in the series if you're thinking about reading this book. I've put it on my TBR list after reading this one!

This book is un-put-down-able! If you don't believe me, ask my husband. The housework definitely suffered while I was reading this one. Charlotte is a character that is very easy to relate to. Most people can relate to nearly losing their minds when their hearts are broken. Is it rational to drive away from your life on the hopes of having a stranger help you? Nope. Not in the least bit. But when you're broken and hurting and needing to get away, rationality isn't always something that comes into play.

I have to say I was very skeptical of Max and Charlotte at first. But the relationship between the two of them works very well. Their chemistry is obvious from the very beginning. This book has a lot of twists and turns. It's not a predictable book at all. I love Shanna's writing and I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future!

Okayyy...

Can be boring and repetitive in some places but otherwise not so bad. The characters sound loopy but reading further you tend to understand why. Like Trevor and Steph's angst though love to see their story.

“You make me want a life that’s easy and light and carefree. I thought if I had those things, I’d give up on my past; it’d be like saying what happened was okay, and I’d stop trying to get justice.”
“You deserved those things, Max. I realize that Garcia took the life you were supposed to have, but you’re letting him steal this one too. He doesn’t deserve to have that much power over you.”

“He presses against me, and I feel like there’s more of a chance of drowning in him than in the ocean.”

Leggetelo!

3.5, but not sure I'd give it a full 4-star rating. Book two in a series that isn’t really listed as a series. Charlotte was first introduced in Pretending by Shanna Clayton. By the end of that book, you find out that Charlotte’s boyfriend since forever has cheated on her. Not just with anyone, oh no, with one of her best friends. Yep, they all grew up in the same small town and went off to college together. Gwen and Char had competed very briefly for Miles, Char won…or so she thought. Guess Gwen had Plan B all figured out. Char needs a total change and knows just where to head.

This story opens two years prior to the current events in a flashback to when Char happened to stumble on a stabbing taking place in a back alley. She stops the would-be murderers and saves Max’s life. He owes her a debt he thinks he’ll never be able to repay. Then one day, Char shows up at his door, broken, and needing a place to heal.

There are times when this story will tug at your heartstrings and times when you’ll want to smack someone upside the head. It’s full of angst and discovery. The chapters fly by and the book doesn’t seem nearly as long as it is.

I LOVED this. It was amazing. It was addicting. I couldn’t put it down.

Of course, parts of it really didn’t make sense…they kept feeling this undeniable attraction even though they didn’t know each other at all, and Max seemed to have no self-control at the most random times but acted like a total jerk at others. And Charlotte really wasn’t as I expected either—I didn’t expect her to wear her emotions on her sleeve, but that’s who she was, and I admired that because it took out the whole mind-game aspect that a lot of relationships (and potential ones) have. Honestly that probably saved a lot of time. The book would have been twice as long, I’m sure of it.

And luck came into play as well. It wasn’t entirely up to the characters. But they worked for what they got. I enjoyed the book’s ability to make me feel. I don’t know if it was because I could relate or not, but something was different with this book and it had me feeling things. For example, I was heartbroken and furious right along with Char when she was dealing with the whole ex-boyfriend thing. I could feel all the emotions the characters were feeling and it surprised me—even though it’s pretty normal for me to get involved in a book that way.

There was also some humor. Mostly Max was pretty tough and Char was pretty chill when it came to narration style, but sometimes—usually with Max—there would be some really hilarious moments. The book really was a great blend of good things.

Actually, thinking more about it, I admire Charlotte’s attitude more and more. She’s the kind of girl who needs to talk through things rather than hold grudges. She won’t be as relentlessly loyal as I would prefer, but she’ll be pretty darn loyal. She’ll get straight to the point about things. She’ll understand you. And she likes things to be clear and defined, rather than confusing and messy. And she won’t take no for an answer.

Even with bada** heroines, all those traits aren’t usually present—at least not all at once. Usually, those types of heroines have weaknesses along those more emotional lines—they give in to their emotions, lose control like Max does, give up trying to understand how they feel, and just go with it while the partner takes the reins. Char had the advantage of both being a bada** (she can shoot a gun with amazing accuracy, what more need be said) and very clear about what she needs emotionally. Maybe not what she wants all the time, but she—or at least her subconscious—knows what she needs.

Loved the book. I would welcome it on my shelves.

I must say it was the blurb that intrigued me about this book, and seeing as how it was the first of this authors work i have ever read i must say it was very very good. Charlotte gets hurt badly by her douchebag boyfriend and decides to take off, she visits with the mysterious Max who you will all be intrigued by. He has secrets and a hard past but he is likeable and i warmed instantly to both characters, Charlotte is a woman female readers will feel a connection with. Everyone has insecurities and doubts. It appears both these characters appeared in Pretending, but this is their story and can be read as a stand alone. However i enjoyed this story so much i will in the future look into this first book. Rebounding looks at who you turn to when things get tough and how you deal with such issues, it kept me engaged throughout the whole story, i feel this author has a lot of promise and i will keep my eyes open for her future works as well.

Wasted reading..just boring!!

What was the plot again? The only good part of the book was the beginning on how she we saved H life. It made her badass, but not. After h got dumped by her boyfriend she was pathetic and weak. There was no chemistry between the H. H calling her kid a lot was a turned off. The storyline was trying to have a plot where the H was trying to find his sister. Between that storyline and the romance building between H just did not work. The author tried to make this a mystery story with romance but wasn't able to mix the two. Add a weak female lead which makes the plot from bad to worst. Couldn't connect with the characters. The H was no Alpha that's for sure when his cousin and girlfriend hovers over him. Wimped that for sure. Just flipped the pages since I lost interest. Do not waste your time and money. Boring.....

A delight to read. Loved the characters. The chemistry between Max and Charlotte was impenetrable. I was laughing so hard at the end. Can't wait for this author's next novel.
