A good story

I really enjoyed the chemistry between the main couple, but I struggled with just about everything else.
The fiancé storyline felt unnecessary to me because it created conflict that never seemed particularly difficult to resolve. As a reader, I never fully understood the FMC's indecision, which made it hard to connect with her choices. The solution felt fairly obvious from the start, so instead of creating tension, that plotline mostly left me frustrated.
The big sister reveal was also a bit underwhelming. There was so much buildup, anxiety, and anticipation surrounding it that I expected a much bigger emotional payoff. Instead, the reaction ended up being far less dramatic than I was led to believe, which made the conflict feel somewhat overinflated in retrospect.
Overall, the book was entertaining enough, and the romance itself worked for me, but it didn't deliver the level of drama, angst, or emotional intensity that I was hoping for.

I loved Oak, the MMC; he wasn't playing around and knew exactly what he wanted. Now, Lex, she's a little bit slower to communicating, and it may have taken her a little while to come around, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. If you like a best friend's brother, forbidden love, and a love triangle, you'll enjoy this one.

Unconvincing
We’re told this is a love story twelve years in the making, but we’re never really shown why. A crush at fourteen and one night together before a twelve-year separation wasn’t enough to make their connection feel earned.
Keeping the engagement intact until the very end hurt the story for me. I wanted to see them get to know each other again instead of spending nearly the entire book sneaking around while Alexis planned a wedding to someone else.
The book bounced from one event to the next (welcome home, birthdays, anniversaries, funerals, award ceremonies, holidays, proposal) without ever slowing down long enough for their love story to breathe. How am I supposed to believe these two belong together when I never got to see them simply exist together? Every meaningful interaction revolved around sex or another event.
By the end, Alexis tells us Oak is her home, her heart, and her safe place. I wanted to believe that too. Unfortunately, I never got to watch their relationship grow into those things. I was still taking the book’s word for it instead of feeling it myself.

Omggggg this story was too freaking cute!! When I tell yall I was literally tearing up! The plot, the characters, the setting, the dialogue, the tension... literally everything was perfect!!! I love reading stories set in Chicago because that's home duh 🫶🏾 but I enjoyed how it wasn't the too heavily stated or enforced here.
Lex: phewww baby girl had me lividdddd lmaoo I loved her but omg I was like maam!! Confidence you need it! But her character growth was a worthy sight to see
Oakland: what a mannnn what a mannnn!! The man knew what he wanted and wasn't gone stop til he got it, I can respect that!
The side characters definitely helped to add to this story!! But like I said, great quick read!

I’m having a hard time getting through this one. No matter how much I skip it just doesn’t seem to be working for me.
Ain’t no way the MFC is as dumb as she seems. Who marry someone because that other person’s grandpa is slowly dying due to dementia? I was over it after I read that, but I kept on reading against my better judgment. I’m not gone lie i really dont like flashbacks because it takes so long to get to the current parts. This flashback is super long and for no reason at all. Nothing is really happening. All this just to tell how the MC started back sleeping together? Like I said I’ve skipped almost full chapters and still like I haven’t made it nowhere. It’s boring to say the least.
Idk if I’m going to finish this, I’m trying so hard.

I really enjoyed this read! It gave me all the feels! Lex is all of us at one point, kind of dumb over a no good guy! You know that he isn't the one for you but you still stay because you're hoping for a different outcome than what you know in your heart is coming! Oak, was HIM! I loved his character, and how he cared for Lex.
I did laugh at how when he came home they treated it more like he was coming home from jail vibes versus the service!
But I still enjoyed the book! I was also hoping when Oak went on the date that Lex saw him out - I know that would've been predictable but I wanted to see that someone else would be all over Oak while you playing around!
But if you need a book to get you out of a slump or a good lovey dovey read - this is it! At least it was for me!

Tell Me What I Got To Do To Please You!
This book instantly caught my attention. The plot from the beginning gave off juicy yet spicy. I was not disappointed at all. Lex deserved this real love the way her face was constantly played in. She was accepting the bare minimum and gave excuses as to why she should stay and not accept real love. Oak knew exactly how good of a woman Lex was. He was determined to be everything she needed and wanted in a man. She just wanted someone to be real and hot ,ore than she could’ve bargained for!!

I swear Lex got on my nerves with this Patrick clown of a fiance. How many red flags did she need? She had all the evidence she needed to shut it down.
Now Oak, I loved him and his patience and protectiveness over the people he loved. He knew who she needed & what she needed and deserved, but in the end, Lex had to decide. Man, did he get Patrick good for making a fool out of Lex's heart.

Great read! I absolutely loved getting to see the love Oak and Lex had for each other. Even after spending 12 YEARS apart, their love never dwindled.
Now that ex of hers? BABYYYY… he was a whole mess! I’m so glad he got kicked to the curb where he belonged.
This was such a beautiful love story, with some great spicy parts and I truly enjoyed every bit of it. Definitely a great read and one I’d recommend!

Why……
I literally was asking why for everything that happened in the book. It’s sad but the one person in the book that actually made sense was the cheating fiancé Patrick. He had sense enough to keep saying “are you calling off the wedding” or “why are you marrying someone you don’t trust.” The story was dragged out a seemed fake(not fictional but just fake).

I loved this story. Oak did not play about Lex! Twelve years is a long time but it did not change their chemistry. Liv was funny and added the perfect balance to the story. Pat was terrible and I knew he was no good from the beginning.

Left me annoyed….
Lex got on my nerves almost this entire book. She was just such a weak female character and beyond gullible to the point of idiocy. I did not like her character at all, and struggled to see why she deserved better when she was just so intent on accepting BS.

Alexis was acting like she was a unattractive and needed Patrick. He was playing in her face even when he was calling to check-in. I was ready to smack her through my device. She should have followed her gut because it was telling her to end it before she even said yes.
Oakland, was my boo because he was laying it on thick and proving he was her end game. I lived his "vows." That was straight from the heart just like that fade he delivered in the club.
