FROM MILLION-COPY BESTSELLER JASPER T. SCOTT
Only the winner goes home.

Former Army Ranger Cole Maddox survived the massacre that wiped out most of his company.

No one could explain how.

Years later, Cole is back home with a wife, two kids, a dead-end job, and a life that feels too small for the war still raging inside his head. Then the nightmares begin—strange jungles, towering ruins, shadowy monsters, and hovering drones watching his every move.

At first, everyone tells him it’s PTSD. Then he wakes up bleeding.

When Cole discovers that other survivors from his old unit have been vanishing one by one, he realizes something is coming for the men who should have died that night.

And when Cole is taken, he learns the truth.

He has been chosen for an alien blood sport, thrown into a deadly arena with other human contestants and monsters from across the stars. Every new environment brings another trap, another impossible choice, and another reason for the survivors to turn on each other.

The rules are fight, run, kill, and survive.

Cole has already survived one impossible slaughter. Now he has to survive another, because somewhere back on Earth, his family is waiting.

And only the winner goes home.

Alien Arena is a military sci-fi action thriller for fans of The Hunger Games, Squid Game, and Predator.

Speculative science fiction thriller where 22 humans fight until there is only one left alive - 4.5 stars

Alien Arena starts with a military battle (firefight) in Afghanistan in which Army Rangers fight against a numerically superior force. A bright white light stops the battle. Only four soldiers survive. Nightmares called PTSD follow for 10 years. Fast forward to trying to understand vivid nightmare dreams; one soldier (Maddox) wakes up in his home, in a blood-soaked bed, with one arm badly injured. While the reader KNOWS that the injury is not self-inflicted, no one really believes him.

A little help from local police reveals that some of Maddox' Ranger buddies have disappeared without a trace over the past few months. Could the dreams be real? When his buddy (Dane) calls asking for help in the middle of the night, Maddox drives to his friend's home. Creatures that Maddox remembers from his dreams are inside Dane's home. The scene changes to a non-Earthlike location. Dean and Maddox learn that they are participants in a "contest"; there will only be one survivor.

The challenge for survival becomes uppermost. As the survival challenge proceeds, the humans are allowed to become allies or choose to remain as "rivals". The climate is stacked against them not only with fierce storms and heat, but also with flora and fauna that want to kill them. Floods and hurricanes, lava, and intense heat are added, although the contestants are allowed to have temporary shelter and equipment that has a limited lifetime. The time remaining is shown on displays attached to their heads. (The technology is advanced but definitely not benign). There are attempts to try to keep allies together and try to figure out strategies. One particular skill is to decode the way through a maze.

As the contest builds to the final one-on-one fighting, all remaining contestants are funneled to an arena filled with grey aliens with horns. Throughout the story, the variety of alien life forms is spectacular; each alien life form has several features which are particularly gruesome. The rules of the game can only be modified by the aliens who want to see blood, gore, and death.

Occasionally, there were back doors between different areas in specific alien regions. The alien game masters do not have a shred of compassion. The human players notice family members watching their bloody hand-to-hand combat from a protected enclosure. It's not pretty. The story does end, but the author has promised a sequel if you are up for more.

The guys are cut off from getting help while the opposition is advancing.  A bright light and they wake up on the ground with the enemy all dead.  Now, fast forward 12 years and we find Sergeant Cole Maddox is having horrific nightmares.  Very real ones.  Even wakes with marks on his body.  Weird right.  And then Cole tells Dane, who has also been having graphic nightmares.  So are the guys from his squad, of whom some are now missing.  I don't want to say too much here, but I find this to be a very different book for me to read. Once I got into it, I was enthralled with wondering what could possibly happen next to the guys. Who is going to die and who will be the final guy standing.  Jasper T. Scott, you have pulled a wonderful book out of that great mind of yours. Thank you for this.  Looking forward to the next book in this series.

I couldn't say it any better than reviewer Jean Brandenburg:

"If you have high blood pressure, or heart problems, don't read this book. Death lurks around every corner and you never know what will happen next!

The first chapter was intriguing. Then it jumped forward in time and there was a lot of woe is me, my boss is awful, I can't make ends meet, my wife still loves me but can't take much more of this, until I was thinking, 'What's this got to do with aliens??'"

Then the plot starts getting very dark and twisted and does not let up. There’s a diverse case of characters and interesting interactions. Further, it presents a moral and ethical society versus one without any, totally ruthless. It will keep you turning the pages, relentlessly pursuing how far the characters must go to survive.

And then the aliens came forward. From the time Cole was abducted until the last page, it was non stop action and death defying feats and pulling on heart strings. I had to stop reading sometimes to give my heart rate a chance to slow down. I didn't realize until the last page that this was the first of a series. I can't wait to see what goes on in the next one!

This book got my interest from the first sentence. I found the book hard to put down.

The story was full of alien horrors.

After having weird "dreams", several people from Earth were transported to an alien arena where they were told that only the winner would go home.

Five army friends who had survived years ago when they should have died, were pitted against each other. They joined together to avoid the alien horrors and tried to get the rest of the surviving contestants to join them. However, the aliens kept changing the rules.

I loved this story and wait impatiently for the next book.

Alien Arena written by one of my favorite authors, Jasper T. Scott and wowsers, he created a most delicious story that helped me get through the most horrible week of my life. I love to read especially when the book takes me to places that, even though I know they don’t exist, shelter me from reality when it becomes nearly unbearable. Alien Arena was my escape very recently as I sat beside my daughter in the hospital for seven days and nights. It made my waking nightmares recede for brief periods. Alien Arena was is an incredibly engaging story that I highly recommend.

Disclaimer: I received this ARC from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.

Action, Action, Action!

This is the Roman Colosseum horribleness, dramatically raised by 100 times.
A blood thirsty non human race pick people, kidnap them and then force them to fight to the death through many cruel environments before the final few fight in the arena.
If you enjoy reading action filled books with huge personal tension on every page (or so it feels like) then this is definitely your book.
The participants are cruelly manipulated into doing things that bring out the worst in them most of the time. There are tiny few who manage to keep a semblance of goodness but…well read it and find out.

The author has a well-developed back library of books on aliens coming to us. Here, it is more about some of us being drawn to them.
Great action. The core characters, – former army rangers – are drawn into a complex world, don’t understand with aliens that just appear. Their motives are unclear, and survival is more a hope than an option.
Worldbuilding is vivid and impressive. You feel the foreign landscapes, unique monsters, and the fear that death here is real.

Only the Winner Goes Home appears to offer a high stakes science fiction premise centered on survival, competition, and an alien arena. The concept has strong appeal for readers who enjoy fast paced speculative fiction with dangerous challenges, extraterrestrial settings, and intense survival stakes.

Abducted Again

Sergeant Murdock and his six man crew are ambushed by the enemy one is killed but the other five find themselves in a dead end gully about to be overrun, when a bright light flashes and then they are back in the gully all the enemy are dead around them and no-one can remember what happened between the two points. This book was hard to put down. Good Read.

Intense

This entire read was extremely intense to the point that I couldn’t stop reading falling asleep, trying to get to the next page and waking up just to start all over again.
Sooooo… I guess I’ll have to read the next book to see if there’s a conclusion.
If you truly like sci-fi, this is a good one to read.

Honestly superb as always. I figured this was a one off, but there’s clearly so much more in store. It wasn't what I originally expected, but it was so much better a fight for survival against friends and the aliens who never stop changing the rules of the game.

This was an absolute brilliant read. You just gotta get through the hum drum first section, which does what it's supposed to. This is basically a sci-fi hunger games. I loved it and would recommend it.

Page turner

Starts off a bit on the slow side, but once it kicks into gear, it stays there in full throttle.

The Winner

The title doesn’t leave much to the imagination but this is one Arena that reacts to the contestants and isn’t stationary. Drones are watching, Aliens are watching and the contestants have the option to team up but in the end only one goes home.
