Cute and steamy human - minotaur romance featuring Maisie, who’s arrived on minotaur Kazan’s adoptive home planet to start a new life after escaping a mentally abus!v3 relationship.
The moment Kazan notices the petite Maisie, he knows she’s meant for him. However, a wrinkle in Maisie’s paperwork for the matching program prevents them from becoming mates in the most primal manner.
Close proximity during the trial process has the pair tossing their agreement to abstain out the window, but will it mean Maisie will be forced to return to her cruel ex?
I received an advance reader copy from the author and Booksprout, and I’m sharing my honest impressions.
Kazan by Kate Rudolph is a heartfelt alien romance that delivers so much more than an intergalactic love story. Beneath the horns, muscles, and sci-fi setting is a deeply satisfying journey about trust, freedom, and discovering that real love is built on choice rather than control.
Maisie's story immediately pulled me in. After spending years trapped in a relationship where someone else dictated her life, crossing the galaxy to marry a stranger feels less reckless than staying where she was. That premise alone creates a fascinating emotional foundation, because Maisie isn't running toward romance—she's running toward a chance to finally belong to herself.
Then she meets Kazan.
Kazan is everything his appearance suggests and everything readers won't expect. A former minotaur gladiator with scars from a brutal past, he's physically intimidating, powerful, and more than capable of protecting what's his. Yet what makes him unforgettable is his restraint. From the very beginning, he gives Maisie something she hasn't had in a very long time: the freedom to choose.
I absolutely loved the contrast between Kazan's fearsome reputation and the gentle patience he shows throughout the story. He could easily dominate every situation, but instead he listens, waits, and allows Maisie to move forward at her own pace. That quiet devotion makes every interaction between them meaningful.
The trial marriage setup adds wonderful tension to the romance. Knowing there's a strict rule preventing physical intimacy only heightens the anticipation as their connection grows stronger. Every glance, conversation, and shared moment carries extra weight because both characters are trying to navigate feelings that become impossible to ignore.
Maisie's personal growth is one of the strongest aspects of the book. Watching her slowly rediscover her confidence and learn to trust her own instincts made her easy to root for. She begins the story carrying fear and self-doubt, but with every choice she makes, she reclaims another piece of herself.
Kazan's journey is equally rewarding. Beneath his calm exterior is a man who survived unimaginable hardship and convinced himself certain dreams were no longer possible. Seeing him open his heart again and allow himself to hope creates some incredibly touching moments throughout the story.
The external conflict involving Maisie's past keeps the pages turning while reinforcing the central message of the novel: love should never come at the cost of freedom. The way Kazan stands beside her rather than deciding for her highlights exactly why their relationship works so well.
I also loved the world-building. The matchmaking program, the frontier setting, and the alien culture create a rich backdrop without overwhelming the romance. The result is a story that feels immersive while keeping the focus firmly on the characters.
If you enjoy alien romance, protective monster heroes, marriage-of-convenience themes, forced proximity, and stories where trust is every bit as important as attraction, Kazan is a fantastic read. It's sweet, steamy, and surprisingly tender—a reminder that the strongest love stories aren't about being claimed, but about being chosen.

The most interesting part of what's being depicted here is imho the psychological aftermath of gender-based violence and a victim's attempt to escape it. The story features a controlling, maniacal ex who hunts the FML by proxy via his network of associates. Trigger warning on blood, emotional and physical abuse (not between the MCs).
The story has overall good flow and pacing. It's rather insta and makes use of the fated bond trope. There were aspects about it which I liked, and some which I didn't.
For one, I did appreciate how serious topics such as victimisation and criminal mistreatment were used in the plot, especially as some of the author's observations were very intricate and accurate.
The text describes things like the change of the very air before a blow hits, the mindset of the victim who learned to predict explosive moods from the way their former abuser moves or handles personal items, the way that abuser would use questions as traps or weapons, etc.
This spoke of profound knowledge on the topic, and left me pondering more than once if the author had the misfortune to build on some personal experience here. I did also highly appreciate the author's regard for the FML's bodily autonomy, which, to me, highlighted the undelying values of this piece in a positive light.
On the other hand, I did not personally like witnessing how the main characters actively chose to ruin their own chances of happiness together. They took pointless risks, then got caught. Stupidly so. They knew who they were up against, then acted surprised when consequences followed.
I felt that they knowingly walked into an avoidable trap. The main character's trauma background gave some explanation to their actions but their half-hearted commitment to protecting their relationship was disappointing.
If they, themselves didn't take the threat looming over them seriously enough, it ended up undermining the central focus of tension. By extension, as a reader, I couldn't feel sorry for them anymore if they were like we-are-trying-not-really. I simply ceased to care about them, in turn.
The narrative seemed to treat ignoring imposed rules as romantic or triumphant, but I wasn't convinced that their reckless deeds were admirable or above the clause forced on them. Their choices didn't read as heartfelt act of rebellion to me. It felt more like self-sabotaging their own strategy.
They were fooling themselves and the people around them who they had dragged in and who had taken risks on their behalf. They got busted exactly as others warned they would. That made their promises to one another, which they failed to keep up with already on day two, sound empty.
As a result, I couldn't get past Ch12 and my reading came to an end. I've come across fics by the same author before that I didn't enjoy very much, I did like this one better but as said, had to stop before the end. But the author for sure has talent.
Usually, when women are running from an abusive ex, they head to the other side of the country. Maisie takes that idea one step further and runs to the other side of the galaxy. After spending four years with a man who controlled every aspect of her life, signing up with an alien matchmaking agency seems like the perfect way to disappear. The last thing she expects is the seven-foot minotaur waiting for her at the end of the journey. Kazan is a former gladiator raised to survive the brutality of the fighting pits, and the scars covering his body tell the story of a violent and brutal past. Despite his imposing size and intimidating appearance, he'd much rather spend his days tending his star figs and enjoying the quiet life on his farm on Ceres-9 and has absolutely no interest in taking a bride—at least until Maisie arrives. The moment he catches her scent, he's completely gone. Not surprisingly, Maisie is wary of the giant alien. No matter how patient, gentle, and kind Kazan proves himself to be, she's always waiting for the mask to slip, expecting him to reveal the same cruelty she's known before. Instead, Kazan is exactly who he appears to be: a protective, endlessly patient cinnamon roll whose fierce warrior instincts only surface when someone threatens Maisie, but never against her. I absolutely loved the way he let Maisie set the pace, giving her the space and reassurance to rediscover trust and realize that love doesn't have to come with fear. Their trial marriage may forbid physical contact, but the growing emotional connection between them makes that rule increasingly impossible to follow. My biggest disappointment was the resolution of Maisie's past. With the shadow of her ex hanging over the story and his relentless attempts to drag her back to Earth, I was expecting a much bigger payoff. Instead, the confrontation arrives with barely a ripple, leaving one of the novel's central tensions feeling surprisingly underwhelming. That said, if you're a sucker for a huge, lovable cinnamon-roll hero, a heroine reclaiming her life on her own terms, a delicious size-difference, plenty of spice, and a love story built on patience, respect, and unwavering devotion, this is an absolute must-read. She ran from control and found a monster who gave her choice.
Maisie doesn’t leave Earth because she’s fearless. She leaves because staying means letting a controlling ex decide her life. A trial marriage to an alien stranger should feel risky, but Kazan is nothing like the men who taught her to brace for harm.
Kazan is a scarred former gladiator turned frontier farmer, all horns, strength, silence, and restraint. He wants Maisie from the first breath, but wanting doesn’t mean taking. Every careful pause and offered choice starts breaking through the fear she carries across the stars.
Their connection is immediate, physical, and dangerous to ignore, especially with a contract forbidding touch. But the closer Maisie gets to Kazan, the more she realizes desire doesn’t have to feel like losing herself. With him, wanting becomes something she gets to claim.
When the past reaches Ceres-9, it brings legal threats, old fear, and the risk of losing the first home that feels chosen. Kazan has spent years burying the monster the arena made of him, but for Maisie, he’ll fight without becoming what hurt her.
Maisie starts out believing love comes with control and fear, but learns to trust her desires, reclaim her voice, and choose a future that belongs to her. Kazan is deeply restrained and quietly devoted, a former gladiator learning that protection leaves room for choice. Together, they build a fiercely intimate bond rooted in trust, consent, and emotional safety.
An ultra-steamy alien-human monster romance with fated mates, a matchmaking agency, a protective former gladiator, and a heroine reclaiming herself after emotional control. It’s about trust, autonomy, healing, desire, consent, belonging, and the difference between possession and devotion.
The Elevator Pitch: She crossed the galaxy to escape a man who mistook control for love and found refuge with a scarred alien farmer who never stops giving her a choice. As legal threats and old wounds close in, a bond neither of them expected forces them to decide whether trust is worth the risk of losing everything. What begins as an arrangement becomes a fight for freedom, belonging, and a future chosen rather than claimed.
Maisie is attempting to escape an unhealthy situation and has signed up to be a trial bride to a Minotaur named Kazan. She hopes that coming to Ceres-9 she can start a new life and maybe find herself in the process.
Kazan is a Minotaur that has seen a lot of the ugly that the world has thrown at him and he has finally found a place to put down roots. Now that he and his brethren have made Ceres-9 more of less theirs they are looking to start families. Earth females are compatible even if they are a bit more fragile than they would like.
A small trigger warning if you have experienced mental and emotional abuse, Maisie is learning how to find her new normal after experiencing such abuses.
Kazan is very patient with her, he is very aware of his strength and makes sure that she is comfortable with everything that is happening with them.
This was a very sweet story with a super sweet male that puts her first and a woman that is beginning to finally live the life she has always wanted.
There were some things that were a little confusing such as why was she in that type of an arrangement with her ex? Also while cliche we usually see Minotaurs with nose rings, the cover Kazan does not have one, however he has one in the book.

This was a good quick alien romance, and I read it in one sitting.
Kazan is the sweetest cinnamon roll in the whole universe, and I love it so much when these huge dudes are so incredibly gentle. At the same time, if you trigger his protective side, all bets are off and it's gonna hurt. Even though there is a mate bond, it isn't what is controlling their feelings for each other, and doesn't overpower their choices either. It's a nice change from what you see most of the time in these types of books.
Maisie is deeply hurt and broken inside from all the abuse she has lived though with her ex. She is tough though, and knows how to do what she needs to survive. I really enjoyed watching her slowly open up and realize feeling safe is possible for the first time in years, and that she deserves to be loved.
This book does go more into detail for the domestic abuse than I was expecting, so be aware that there are some intense situations. I wish that this had a TW list too.
I had questions about whether the cover art was human created, and no cover artist was credited. The author never replied to me. Otherwise it would have been a 4 star book.
This alien romance pairs a human heroine with a minotaur hero, and while the romance itself is sweet, the story deals with some heavy themes. The heroine is trying to escape an abusive former relationship, but her ex-fiancé attempts to use their previous engagement to force her back into his life through legal means. It makes for a tense and emotional backdrop to the romance.
Some parts of that storyline were quite uncomfortable to read, particularly the contractual conditions surrounding the engagement. Those moments fit the controlling nature of the ex, but they also make the story considerably darker than the cover might suggest.
The highlight of the book is definitely the hero. The minotaur is kind, patient, and genuinely caring, making him a wonderful contrast to the heroine's past experiences. Their relationship develops in a way that feels supportive and heartfelt, and I found myself rooting for them throughout the story.
Overall, this is an engaging alien romance with an exceptionally lovable hero. While some of the themes are difficult and may not be for everyone, the romance itself is beautifully written and ultimately very rewarding.

Kazan:Minotaur Mates is an engaging first book in the author’s Alien Matchmaking Agency series. The story follows Minotaur Kazan a former Gladiator now a farmer on Ceres-9. Along with his fellow former Minotaur Gladiators without females of their own kind they have had to turn to the Alien Matchmaking program to provide the wives they needed for companionship, and continuation of their species. Maisie had left Earth fleeing an ex and into the arms of Kazan who after scenting her was insistent to the program managers she was his after her arrival on Ceres-9. Theirs would be one of the trial marriages and was already starting out with problems because it looked as though Maisie’s issues may have followed her from Earth. I enjoyed their story which held some drama, danger, emotion, passion, intrigue and personal vulnerability. Good writing, and characters kept this well paced story entertaining, and warmhearted as Kazan and Maisie’s relationship begins to build, and obstacles overcome to reach the happiness they both deserved. A captivating read, wonderful characters and a plot that held me riveted throughout This was a wonderful introduction to what I hope is going to be a lengthier series and I hope that readers will enjoy the chemistry between the main characters which are simply wonderful to read and I expect that readers will enjoy reading about Kazan and also Maisie. Kazan is quite the fine figure of a man and the delightfully beautiful Maisie is a tiny human that he meets and from this they discover that they have a wonderful chemistry and I am sure that readers will be blown away by this simply wonderful book. Maisie is a tiny little bundle that has come all the way from earth and has learned that her past seems to have caught up with her and Kazan is there to ensure that she kept safe, he will stot anyone from hurting her in any manner whatsoever. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

Kazan: Minotaur Mates is book 1 in the Alien Matchmaking Agency series. Kazan is a Minotaur who was originally an arena fighter, finally had a place of his own which included an orchard. Unfortunately, the side effect of being bred to be a fighter, they kept the females separate from the males, and it dwindled the numbers available by the time they were free, there were a miniscule number for anyone. Despite the whole planet, the species couldn’t continue as it was. So, the decision was to go with Earth’s Matchmaking Agency, because they had too many females. The mayor decided he was a leader, so he had to be a good example. I loved the storyline, it was amazing, and the characters were just that. You will love most, but not all, mainly a couple of them. But this is an amazing first book for a new series. Grab it, I fully believe you will love it as much as I did.

Maisie is looking for a fresh start on a new planet after escaping a cruel, abusive past, even if it means marrying an alien minotaur on a distant planet. Kazan is a massive, intimidating minotaur who survived a brutal history in the fighting pits. He feels he is too hardened and brutish to deserve a bride, but he is immediately captivated by Maisie.
Kazan is incredibly gentle, protective, and full of loving understanding for Maisie; he truly possesses a complete heart of gold. Their relationship builds under the shadow of the flag on her contract, forcing them into a trial period where they are supposed to abstain from physical intimacy, but their chemistry is both cute and steamy, and their attraction is impossible to resist.
This is a short read, but there is plenty of humor, great characters, and their romance feels tender and passionate. I loved this introduction to a fantastic new series. I can't wait to read more about these Minotaur Mates!.

This was an emotional journey for our h and she was right to take it to find a much better male in her life. The writing doesn't lag and this was entertaining. This H was bred for the gladiator pits and was more than happy to have a peaceful existence among his land.
But he was a leader and he had to set an example to his people and took a mate.
I felt for his people that they had been put through so much and their females are all but gone. For him I can understand peace and for her as well. She had felt like she was less and no one should have that power over anyone else. He gave her what she needed and they worked. Her former life tore her down and this male helped build her up. A healthy relationship and a happy outcome.

Maisie was running from an emotionally abusive, controlling relationship and finds herself with a huge, gruff minotaur. Given that Kazan has a proven potential for violence why is she not truly afraid of him?
Kazan didn't think he wanted anything to do with the small, fragile humans until a scent in the breeze shouts mate. Now he has to put all his efforts and control into being gentle to win his little mates trust and affection.
Add in a malicious, hateful ex with more than enough money to get the system to retrieve what he considers his property and Kazan and Maisie have a fight to make their relationship work.
A fantastic, heartwarming love story between a woman used to being small to survive and a minotaur finding the one thing he is not prepared to let go of. A definite page turner.

I found KAZAN to be entertaining—from Kazan and Maisie’s very likable personalities, their super sexy steamy scenes, all their tender hearted moments, the moments that almost stopped my heart, and, of course, the adorable goat adventure. Plus all the other stuff that made this book such a great read. *** Recommended ***

Hilarious And Sweet The first book in a new series by Ms Rudolph gives the reader a good taste of what it will be like: lots of humor, charismatic characters, problems to overcome and a hot and sweet romance. Even if it’s not a very long story, it gives a few hours of very enjoyable reading. And a promise of more to come. Kazan is a big, very big, minotaur with a golden heart, even with his terrible past in the pits. Full of loving understanding for his mate, a tiny human woman, with a big problem that follows her from Earth. Maisie learns to trust and love this very big, monstrous being and to know he will keep her safe forever. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Book 1 of Alien Matchmaking Agency. And a FANtastic start it is! Look forward to more from this world.
'But the past I ran from isn't done with me yet. And when it comes for me, it's going to discover that beneath Kazan's gentle smile is a monster who survived the gladiator pits. A monster who has finally found something worth fighting for.'
The characters were very appealing and complex and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and intense and exciting and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!

I have a thing for monster but truly for minotaur, gargoyles and ogres and orc. This was sweet because Kazan was built to be a beast but he was gentle and loving and protective in approaching Maisie...like a scared animal as to not frighten her. He knew who she had been hurt by someone and by the gods she would not be hurt while in his protection.
Maisie was ran across the galaxy to get away from James but that didn't work...it took her standing up to him in court and calling him out in public and declaring her love form Kazan to make him disappear.
This entire book was about trying to get Maisie comfortable whether it was with him or alone on her own...Kazan loved her to let her have a choice....to me that is is the ultimate!!!!
Maisie and Kazan This was a great story. This is my first time reading a book from Kate Rudolph and I’m glad I did. I really enjoyed this alien planet. I loved that they had regular jobs, farmer, blacksmith. Maisie is a strong character. With everything that she’s gone through, a strong character. Kazan is physically strong but also a gentlemen. He gave Maisie authority. He waited for her to say yes for intimacy and that’s great to see. I myself would movie to this planet to be a wife of a minatour.

-A sweet and steamy sci-fi romance with a gentle minotaur hero and a strong heroine rebuilding her life after an abusive relationship. I received a free copy of this enjoyable story and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts. Kazan is protective, patient, and caring, while Maisie’s journey toward healing and self-confidence is inspiring. I love their chemistry, the matchmaking storyline, and the balance of humor, emotion, and suspense. A heartwarming start to the Minotaur Mates series with lovable characters and a satisfying happy ending.
I was hooked on this book from the first page! Maisie is on the run from her violent ex, so she signs up for an alien mail-order bride program. Kazan is a farmer and a former gladiator. Because of the elders in the town, he applies for the bride program. Not because he wanted to, but it was the best thing that ever happened to him. This is such a great story with some excellent plot twists and the perfect happy ending.

Fun out of the box romance; a minotaur, Kazan, is finding his love match with human, Maisie. Maisie has had a tough life and is looking for a new start far away from where she was before. She finds herself on the same planet as Kazan, and despite these two not looking for love, the connection between these two won’t be denied. Cute story! Kazan is a sweetheart; he’s exactly the type of romance that Maisie needs. Enjoy the otherworldly setting and characters! A bit of spice too! Enjoyed this romance!
Kazan, by Kate Rudolph was an suspecting romance between a human and an alien. From the first sniff Kazan knew that Maisie was his mate. Unfortunately, thanks to her abdominal ex-fiance, Maisie is skittish and has no faith or trust in men. Kazan has his work cut out for him, to get Maisie to trust him and chose to stay bounded to him.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the "Alien Matchmaking Agency" series. Maisie and Kazan’s story was a moving exploration of trust, and I found the contrast between Kazan’s gladiator past and his patience during the "no touching" trial marriage very impactful. The central message—that love is built on choice rather than control—made their mutual healing incredibly rewarding. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Maisie grabs her fresh start with both hands with thw Alien matchmaking agency. Kazan never imagined taking one for team would land his Mate in his arms. A sweet and spicy Alien love story chock full of size difference, mate bonds, emotional baggage, and crazy Ex's. Definitely a great start to a new series!.

This is good story and great start to the "Alien Matchmaking Agency" series. It is a fairly short, quick and fast paced story with wonderful characters. This story is about Maisie and Kazan. Maisie, a human, is escaping an abusive relationship when she steps into his world. The minute the minotaur Kazan, sees her, he knows she is meant to be his. These two are combustible together. I love how their story develops. He is sweet and protective, just what she needs.
Book 1 of Alien Matchmaking Agency story of Kazan and Maisie. Talk about perfect from the way these two are drawn together and work well together. The way they protect each other and find strength and love is beautiful.

Heartwarming. A lovely story that made me smile. I really liked Kazan as he has so much strength and he held himself back to give his lovely star bride choice, freedom, and space. He protected her in all the ways that mattered. Beautiful. I received a free advanced copy of this book via Booksprout and voluntarily leave a review.
A Tenuous New Beginning Maisie travelled half way across the galaxy to escape an ex…but a note on her file says her new husband Kazan can’t touch her. I loved this new planet and new minotaur-former gladiator-aliens, and the forbidden-from-touching storyline was delicious. A terrific start to a new series.
