ANOTHER BANGER from Tereza. Ughh the hurt in this one my POOR BABY ROOK !!!! My chest was hurting for most of the book. And AMNESIA TROPE JUST FKIN GUTS ME EVERY TIME BUT once again Tereza knew what the hell she was doing when she wrote this. Im absolutely in love with Rook & Bennet 🥹 and Lucky too

Very dramatic but not particularly plot driven.
Whilst Rook and Bennett are likeable enough, their characters are not really fleshed out. We know that Rook is the Rot King’s Heir and is yoked to the current human king, but we learn little of his life and personality before. Likewise, Bennett is depicted as a wise and benevolent prince, but he only gets involved in politics once throughout the novel and learned Rook’s true name “through the power of true love?” Seemed like a lazy way to close a plot point in my opinion.
I would have liked to learn more about The Rot King’s backstory and his relationship with his son - was it affectionate or fraught with tension? We will never know. The characters at times felt superficial and generic.
The connection between Rook and Bennett also felt rushed on the human side. Whilst Rook has the benefit of listening and comforting Bennett all those evenings at his lake, Bennett only ever knew the Fae Prince in his beast form before. As such, I felt their dynamic was very much rushed and “instant attraction.” Also, I acknowledge that the smut had a valid plot point (i.e the generation of Aether) but it still consumed too much of the plot and was repetitive and boring at times.
In general, not a terrible book but it didn’t blow my mind.

This is an MM retelling of THE SWAN PRINCESS. It’s a Dark Romantasy, with a compelling plot, anchored by a beautiful Achillean love story. This is a hard won HEA, but we do get there eventually (I like it when the lead MCs have to work for it 😂). I couldn’t put this book down, and am quickly becoming a fan of Tereza’s work. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I couldn’t put this book down, even while Tereza put us through HURT, HURT, HURT and I was sitting there feeling completely helpless over Rook. MY POOR BABY. I became so ridiculously attached to these two, and watching Bennett be drawn to Rook, this dark eyed stranger who feels achingly familiar, had me desperately wanting them to just FIND THEIR WAY TO EACH OTHER ALREADY.
The yearning in this book had me holding my breath through so many moments because I was completely consumed by how badly I wanted these two to get a damn break. And Bennett’s aggressive little dominant streak??? EXCUSE ME??? I absolutely loved those moments and was living for every unexpected glimpse of that side of him.
This was dark, sad, hauntingly beautiful, and somehow ridiculously steamy all at once, which is exactly the kind of emotional whiplash Tereza Kane seems to specialize in. I also love the way she takes a familiar fairy tale and completely reinvents it while still leaving those little touches that make you recognize the story underneath.
Another gorgeous retelling from Tereza Kane. I buddy read this with a group of equally feral readers, and we are already sitting here collectively losing our minds waiting for whatever she gives us next.

This was great. A Swan Lake retelling, but really more of a romantasy... with a fairytale feel.
I was left feeling a bit dissatisfied at the end, but I think the ending was right for the story and the real thing I didn't love was how neither character seemed to have much connection with anyone/anything but each other.

😭😭😭 Tereza Kane knows exactly how to break you and put you back together. I cannot with her amazing writing. This was such a touch book to read but the tender moments and even the spicy ones really made you love the characters. It has so many difficult moments but the end was just so worth their ridiculously tough journey. 🥹
